Dark Form

Sol's Powers

As a result of being corrupted by darkness, Mariko's transformation into Sol is dark and corrupt, and to reflect that, her powers are different (Muscle Memory still applies for Martial Arts however);

Dark Sol's Powers

Equipment You Have:
  • Transformation Item; Mariko’s Transformation Item that lets her change into Sailor Sol takes the form of a silver charm bracelet on her left wrist. Decorating the bracelet are nine little charms, one for each planet from Mercury to Pluto (Even though Pluto is a dwarf planet, it is counted as a planet here). The transformation is activated by the command “Solar Prism Power! Make up!”, bringing about her change into Sailor Sol. Destroyed

  • Neo Transformation item; Mariko's new Transformation Item is a brooch with a crystal centre in the shape of a sun (such as the depiction of the sun on cave drawings, etc). The new item also needs a new transformation phrase; "Solar Shard Power: Make up!" Non-Functional

  • Tonfa; Created in Super Sailor Sol-form, as another method of fighting, these Tonfa can appear and disappear at will, depending on if Sol needs to use her hands or her right arm. No-longer Usable

  • Dark Transformation Item; The Shattered Crystal Shards within the Neo Transformation Item's brooch, activated with the phrase “Dark Shard Power! Make Up!”

  • Scythe - Truly a Sinister Scythe, Dark Sol's preferred weapon in her reign of darkness in her Evil Master's name.

  • School essentials; The ordinary stuff, like books, pens, pencils, notebooks, paper, a bag, etc... You know, the stuff a schoolgirl needs for the school day.

  • General every-day items; The plain old stuff anyone might have, like a cell/mobile phone, a purse, handbag, compact with makeup in it, you know, typical girl stuff.

  • Camera - A high-end of the middle-market Camera, a wonderful X-mas present from Selene Frostfire

  • Music Player and Speaker Station - What it says on the tin; A music player and a speaker station it can connect to to work as a stereo system

  • Seemingly Magic Wardrobe - Mariko's wardrobe seems to hold more clothes than it should, and said clothes range from the mundane, to the fancy, to the “How does this even count as a belt, let alone a skirt?”

  • Wedding Dress - A beautiful, but also adjustable Wedding Dress that Sol had bought when hanging out with Jonny. While perfect for being a Bride's dress on her big day, it can also be used for a Prom Dress without much problem.

  • Manga Collection - Dominating a bookcase in Mariko's room are dozens, if not hundreds of Manga volumes, including several box sets, while some decidedly NSFW Yuri and Hetero-pairing works hide beneath her bed

Personality Description: Mariko is a complex individual, and one who is quite divided mentally. One the one side, she seems to be your everyday out-going extrovert of a schoolgirl, always trying to make a new friend. Like this, she does seem a little a little naive and innocent to the ways of the world. However, this is just the mask she wears to the general public. In reality, Mariko is more knowledgeable to the world than she seems to be. This side isn’t usually shown to people, except for those who have earned her complete trust. Her true persona, the one that only those she trusts can ever see, shoes her to be much more introverted and unto herself than she seems. This shows her to be much more quiet and withdrawn, preferring to not get involved in the day-to-day arguing of things.

As inadvertently revealed to her friends, Mariko is both a yuri fangirl and a closet bisexual with a penchant for shipping her friends.

Her other side, is the Sailor Senshi, Sol. As Sol, Mariko is much more like her extroverted mask, but is still as wise to the world as her true personality is. However, she is rather charismatic and is unafraid of putting herself in harm’s way to protect someone or to do what is right. If it means killing an enemy, she will do it... After all, her catchphrase is “In the name of the Sun, I shall right wrongs and triumph over evil, and that means you.” If her alignment had to be set out, it would be Neutral Good, with some Chaotic Good tendencies, owing to her not hesitating to kill if she has to. If Sol was less inclined to kill the villain and more inclined to offer them a shot at redemption, then she would be more towards Lawful Good. The summoned minions and monsters-of-the-week typed enemies don’t actually count, since they are there to be wailed on by the good-guys (or good-girls).

Emotional scarring: After her temporary kidnapping and torture by Zylor, Mariko has become slightly more withdrawn from "vigilante"-typed heroes.... And most male heroes with a mask in general.

Evil Mariko/Dark Sol

Personal History: The Ancient Past

Two millennia ago, the Silver Millennium of the moon reigned in the solar system alongside the planet of Earth. To protect the moon’s Princess, the Senshi of the four closest planets, Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter, and of the Sun were brought to the moon as the guardians of the Moon Princess. Everything seemed to be going well until the engagement of the Moon Princess to the Prince of Earth, when a jealous woman raised an army in protest, bringing about a tremendous war.

As the war drew to a close and the enemies closed in on the heart of the Moon Kingdom’s castle, the Senshi put a risky plan into play; Each one would guard a room in the approach to the centre of the palace, Sailor Sol having the last room as her “playing field”. Needless to say, it was effective for a time, before the Senshi began to tire and finally fall. Staying as strong as she could, Sol continued to pose as a bulwark, even as the last of the Senshi. However, she was soon bypassed by numbers, and her charge, the Moon Princess was killed. In the end of their pre-arranged plan, if Sol was the last of the group left, she would use her right arm to destroy the core of the foundations, bringing down that entire wing of the palace down on the enemy, killing herself and all the soldiers there in the process. The final act of the war came from the Moon’s Queen, Serenity, who sent the Senshi, the princess, and the prince of Earth two thousand years into the future, where they were reincarnated with no memory of their past.

Fifteen years of History

In the modern times, Sailor Sol, reincarnated as Mariko Akane Amaterasu, was born. With no knowledge of her past life or her powers, the red-haired girl began public schooling when she was old enough. However, she always felt like something was missing from her life, like there was something she should know about but didn’t. As she turned into a teenager, her dreams got darker and darker, becoming memories of the final battle of the war two millennia ago. Being plagued by these dreams for a year along with the feelings of longing for something she could never explain was harrowing for Mariko. It was always something she could never tell her parents, after all who would believe her? “Hey mum? I’ve been having a really weird dream lately... I keep imagining I’m on the moon and I make a room explode bringing a ceiling down on me... And I keep feeling like I’m missing something...” Yeah, that’d bring a one-way ticket to the funny farm or at least a shrink...

Then one night, her dream altered to her receiving a charm bracelet... Which she found the following morning... Curiosity out-weighed her caution, and Mariko tried it on, finding it fitted perfectly. That evening, something compelled her to sneak out, and head into the town. As she entered the town centre, she saw two men robbing a jewellery store. Unbidden words came to her tongue, and the charm bracelet reacted, changing her into the Senshi from her dreams; Sailor Sol. Almost on instinct, she engaged the crooks and apprehended them. This trend of playing hero then persisted for a year, gaining Sol a lot of popularity, as well as familiarity with her powers. Hearing of Hyakuji High through various means, Mariko departed for the remote school. Though, despite that and regaining her powers as a Senshi, there is still the feeling inside like she is still forgetting something. Perhaps the school may hold the key to her past and her mission?

First Year
For the most part, Mariko kept her head down, and avoided a lot of people and events. She also vanished for a while to practise in the mountains, away from everyone else to protect them from the Yoma that had been stalking her constantly. She did however, make several friends and acquaintances. However, she was kidnapped by the student, Zylor, for an evening of torture to try and break her, costing her most of her remaining baby teeth, lots of blood, and earning her many cuts, bruised face, ribs and ankles, a stab-wound to her hand and her arm, and a broken right hand. Zylor and her physical injuries have long since gone, but the emotional damage has remained. Now, who knows what will happen in this coming year?

Second Year
While things stayed rather quiet for Mariko during her second year, there were some periods of intense activity. From her chance encounter with Jonny Desmond and losing Sailor Sol for a time in a fight against some Yoma, to meeting Selene Frostfire and Yuki when she was invited to a Christmas Party by Jonny. From recovering her power and connection to Sailor Sol in an upgraded manner, to becoming friends with Jennifer Chase, to chasing after Jonny during his rampage in England, there have been certainly a lot of interesting factors. What was also discovered, was that after her boost in power, Sol recovered more of her memories; While she was reincarnated as Mariko, it wasn't a “complete” or “true” reincarnation, in that the two entities were separate souls within Mariko's body and one takes over depending on if Mariko transforms to Sol or not.

Third Year and the Descent into Darkness
Initially, Mariko's third year started off the same as her previous years had; Quiet. Most of her time has been consumed with hanging out with her friends, or doing general stuff. But, it wasn't to last... Shortly before the end of the Christmas Holidays, Mariko vanished, picked up by a dark entity of powerful origins. For what seemed like months or even years, but was really a few days, the teen's mind, body and twin souls were invaded, broken, corrupted, and reformed by the entity to serve as its minion within the realm of mortal flesh. To ensure there were no complications or pesky attempts to free herself from her new Master's control, the now Evil Mariko, was branded with a tattoo-like mark on her left arm, and was watched near-constantly by the ghostly fox-like demon that the Dark Being set to be its eyes on its new pawn. How it will play out, how Mariko's friends will take this shocking development, and if the teen will ever be saved, remains to be seen...

Powers/ Abilities: Transformation
Spoiler: click to toggle

Utilising her special transformation item, as listed below, Mariko transforms into Sol, her Sailor fuku-wearing Sailor Senshi of the Sun and Justice alter-ego to fight crimes and triumph over evil (And that means you). Slightly skilled in several martial arts, but generally fights like a street fighter but without cheating, Sol can hold her own against most lower-level foes without the use of her Senshi ability. Thanks to muscle Memory, Mariko can now use basic martial arts techniques in her civilian form

Tekko hōgeki fukushahadō (Literally armor-piercing bombardment-type radiation surge)
Spoiler: click to toggle

When activated, Sailor Sol’s right arm transforms into a more robotic arm ending in a claw. Focused in the centre of the palm is an emitter entitled the “radiant wave surger” that is the starting point for the solar radiation emitted by Sol’s attacks. There are four known abilities of the arm;

Fukushahadō Tate (Radiation Surge Shield)
Utilising a small amount of the stored radiation, Sol can create a barrier in front of her palm that can block a variety of attacks for several seconds. Powerful and/or heavy attacks can rip through the shield with some difficulty or like a hot knife through butter, depending on the strength of the attack and the power of the impact

Fukushahadō Bi^mu (Radiation Surge Beam)
Focusing the radiation stored into a beam of varying power, Sol can attack foes from up to fifty metres away and sweep the beam across several targets at once. Amount of radiation used depends on how strong Sol wants the beam and for how long the beam will last for.

Fukushahadō Soufuu (Radiation Surge Blast)
Taking a leaf out of Fukushahadō Bi^mu’s book, Soufuu is a shotgun-style short-ranged blast that spreads the radiation’s energy in a wide burst, usually making for non-lethal stunning, shut-down of technology hit, and minor-to-serious radiation burns depending on the power of the blast.

Fukushahadō Bakuretsu (Radiation Surge Burst)
A melee-variant usage of the Tekko hōgeki fukushahadō arm's Radient Wave Surger. Requiring direct contact, this power transfers the entire discharge directly into the target. Generally, this is either fatal almost instantly, or leaves the target with severe/horrific burns.

Notes on the Tekko hōgeki fukushahadō arm; Due to the arm being a transformation of her organic arm, all damages suffered to the arm will be present upon the arm changing back to normal.

The arm stays metallic from the moment it is activated until de-transformation unless Sol cancels it herself, rather than changing back after an attack or after a certain amount of time. The change is necessary in the first place to prevent Sol from injuring herself with a backlash of radiation, especially if the powers are used at close quarters.

Radiation discharged vanishes within seconds of discharge ending, and has a sort of EMP-like effect on machines hit directly.

Radiation collection (upgraded in Super-form)); The tekko hōgeki fukushahadō arm does not possess more than 10 kilo watts of radiation upon activation, enough to power two shields or one low-level beam or blast. So long as there is natural light present, the arm will absorb the power at a flat rate of 15Kw per post on normal days, during sunny days this is doubled to 30Kw or even up to 35Kw per post, depending on how sunny and how strong the sunlight is. On days where the weather is bad, the collection rate drops to around 10Kw/post, barely enough to erect two shields. At night, there is no light, forcing Sol to deploy dozens of collector-panels called “Solar Vanes” along the arm to collect energy at the same rate as a day of bad weather, namely 10Kw/post.

Energy usage;
Shield: 5Kw
Beam/Blast: 10Kw (low), 20Kw (medium), 40Kw (high)
Burst: 40Kw

Clarification; To prevent being able to raise a shield every single post, there must be at least a post of “Cool-down time” between an ability being used and the next one being used to allow for the collection of radiation. No radiation can be collected during an ability being used, due to the arm being used to attack or defend not to power itself up.

Equipment You Have: Transformation Item; Mariko’s Transformation Item that lets her change into Sailor Sol takes the form of a silver charm bracelet on her left wrist. (Will be irreparably damaged at some point in the not-too-distant future and unusable as a transformation item)

Neo Transformation item; Mariko's new Transformation Item is a brooch with a crystal centre in the shape of a sun (such as the depiction of the sun on cave drawings, etc). The new item also needs a new transformation phrase; "Solar Shard Power: Make up!"

Tonfa; Created in Super Sailor Sol-form, as another method of fighting, these Tonfa can appear and disappear at will, depending on if Sol needs to use her hands or her right arm.

School essentials; The ordinary stuff, like books, pens, pencils, notebooks, paper, a bag, etc... You know, the stuff a schoolgirl needs for the school day.

General every-day items; The plain old stuff anyone might have, like a cell/mobile phone, a purse, handbag, compact with makeup in it, you know, typical girl stuff.
