The Black Reaper
The air was hot and humid, the night sky overcast. The moisture in the air was almost suffocating as a light wind blew the heavy clouds across the sky. Off in the distance, a flash of light was followed by the familiar rumble of distant thunder. The sound came again, closer this time. Within moments, the first few drops of precipitation began to fall, until a steady rain was pouring down onto the parched ground. The rain drummed on the top of a single umbrella, sliding down the curved top to drip off the edge to the hard concrete.

The man holding the umbrella was average height, and despite the heat, he wore a grey jacket over a rust colored polo shirt and jeans. He looked back and forth towards either end of the alleyway between the warehouses, watching for something. His free hand rested in his pocket, gripping onto something as if it might fall out of his pocket if he didn't. He glanced at the watch that was on his wrist before looking back down one way, then down the other. He saw nothing, but looked to his left again, and jumped slightly.

A man stood there, a man in a long black coat and pants, as well as black shoes and gloves. His face was hidden behind a white mask that his black bangs hung over. The man in the grey jacket stepped back, surprise and confusion painted on his face. "Who the hell are you? Where's Hino?" He demanded, speaking of the man he had been waiting for.

The man in the mask stared back at him, then spoke, his voice muffled behind his mask, "Hino won't be coming, now hand over that disc and I won't have to kill you." The masked man started to walk forward, slowly drawing closer.

"Like hell I will!" The man in the grey jacket dropped his umbrella and held out his arm. His pupils suddenly glowed red, and his body was surrounded by a thin blue aura. The water around the masked man, both on the ground and in the air, turned into steam, hiding him from view. The grey jacketed man turned and ran, headed for the other end of the alley. He had to get away and figure out what to do next. He had only gone a few steps when he heard a something behind him, then felt thin metal cable wrapping around his throat. He stopped in his tracks and tugged at the cable, desperate to be free. He looked behind him, and saw a thin blue glow. He screamed as his body flailed and spasmed, then went limp, his eyes glazing over as he fell to the pavement.

Hei walked over the the dead man, kneeling beside him and rummaging in his pocket before pulling out a CD in a plastic case. "Got it. I'll leave it in the same spot as usual Hwaung." He said, and a gravelly voice replied over the earpiece he wore, "Good, The Syndicate has been looking for this info for a while now, they'll be pleased to have it. Now, get out of there before someone finds you." "Right." Hei replied in his usual emotionless tone. He unhooked the wire from the man's neck and stood, preparing to leave the scene of his work.

Ren

"Aaaaaaaa," Ren yelled happily into the air, mouth wide and arms spread as she tried to catch the droplets which now fell onto her tongue. Even if it was just a light drizzle, the energetic teen was ecstatic over the refreshing change from the sweltering air of before. And so she simply revelled in the moment for a time, keenly aware of each cool drop which caressed her skin, until finally she felt reinvigorated.

Dressed in her usual kung-fu attire, from the blue top right down to the black pants and shoes, the young martial artist didn't much care for the fact that she might get soaked -- it had been awhile since she enjoyed a good walk in the rain and a life on the road had made her accustomed to such weather.

Dropping her arms, the red-head beamed happily as she pressed forward, her step having now acquired a light bounce to it. She'd been dejected before, not knowing where she was and cooking under the hot air, but with the change in weather came a new drive to continue onward. Still unsure of where she might be exactly but perfectly okay with a slight detour now that the heat was gone, she peered around curiously as she walked, until finally she spotted the marker she was looking for. Fixed with a smile and content that her luck might be changing, she was about to proceed when suddenly she was shaken into an abrupt halt as a ghoulish scream pierced the once tranquil air.

Pausing nervously, she shot a glance in the direction of the frightful sound, her gaze falling on a dark lane. It held little difference from any other alley she'd seen, the uncared for pavement cracked and worn with the odd piece of debris scattered across its surface. The towering warehouses which made up its walls gave it a cramped look with little space to run and yet plenty of places to hide within the heavy shadows. If it were anyone else they might've hightailed it and Ren was pretty tempted to, but as a martial artist she almost felt as if she had an obligation to check and assist. And so she carefully approached, fists clenching and unclenching as she prepared for whatever awaited her in the darkness.

As she closed in the first thing she noticed was the body which now lay crumpled on the floor, signifying that she was probably too late to be of much help. Not much for thinking however, Ren reacted immediately to what she saw next; another figure dressed in dark clothing and seemingly upright and perfectly healthy. "Hey, mister, what do you think you're doing?" She placed a hand on her hip as she pointed an accusing finger in the direction of the man.

Upon catching a better look of the culprit it became pretty obvious that he was likely the cause of the scream she heard, his face covered by a freaky looking mask. As she slowly acquired a better understanding of the situation and the possible danger, she gradually gained more confidence. On top of the mask, this man was wearing far too much for the current heat, she noted with a smirk; pretty proud of her Sherlock-esque ability of deduction.

The Black Reaper
The wire zipped back into the small buckle on his belt, ready to be used again at a moments notice. The mission had been a success, and all that was left was to drop the disc off with Hwaung at the rendezvous point. He had just slipped the disc into his pocket, when he heard something behind him, followed by a voice. He whirled around, one of his heavy double-edged knives suddenly in his hand. What he saw was hardly what he had expected to find.

A girl, likely not much older or younger than himself, stood in the alleyway, pointing her finger at him like she were some queen passing judgement on a lowly criminal. She was dressed in something resembling a kung-fu uniform, and had brilliant red hair. As she looked back at him, she started grinning at him for some reason. For a few moments, there was only the sound of the rain hitting the pavement, the two of them staring back at each other. "Look's like tonight's not your lucky night kid. Now that you've seen this, I have to get rid of you."

With that, Hei suddenly rushed forward, moving at a speed only attainable from years of hard training and real world combat experience. He swung the knife at the girl, the razor-sharp blade whistling as it went through the air. With his other hand, he reached out to grab her. If he could get his hand on her, then she would be over in less than a second. Though as he was doing this, something tickled the back of his mind, as if some long forgotten memory were slowly rising to the surface. For the moment, he ignored it, keeping his attention on the girl he had to kill.

Ren

Ren's ears twitched at what sounded like a zip-line but she simply shrugged it off as her imagination or the odd background noise. Instead she focused on the man, a trim, darkly attired character with short, black, unkempt, hair and a smooth, plain, white, mask -- the latter having only the barest of details with a thin, red, expressionless, line representing the mouth and two, dark, vaguely ocular-shaped, marks for the eyes. Coupled with the dreary weather and eerily quiet alley, it made for a pretty sinister piece, especially with how its pale white surface all but glowed amidst the contrasting shadows. Otherwise, she was able to make out little aside from seeing him pocket an object just before he had whirled around to face her, a strange blade in hand and apparently ready to use.

Locking eyes with the inexpressive mask, she was a little shocked when he replied, expecting the silent type for some odd reason. The threat did little to jolt her however, his condescending tone and 'kid' remark leaving Ren with the urge to rip off that mask and grind it between her teeth rather than shake with fear. Despite this, she had little time to respond before the stranger suddenly launched into a charge. He may have appeared slight of frame but she could almost sense the compact muscles under that coat tensing as he swiftly closed the gap, his movements far too fluid for any ordinary psychopath. Ren had met martial experts which didn't display such control, or speed.

Shifting her legs apart, she raised her fists and spread them out in a typical brawler's stance. It wasn't so much an underestimation of her opponent's ability as an attempt to not give away too much before the first strike. Allowing her brows to dip in anger, she yelled out, " If anything I'd die of shame the day I let myself fall to a Jason Voorhees wannabe! Bring it, freak!" And with that he was there, already slashing away with that fearsome weapon. Pulling her head back, Ren just barely dodged the singing blade as it swiped the air, a small breeze touching her forehead but only a few red strands falling victim to its edge. In a single simultaneous motion, she pushed off lightly with her foot, distancing herself from the masked man as she slid back into a more defensive stance. Not that it mattered, she couldn't see any openings as long as her opponent had that knife in hand.

She'd worked with plenty of weapons during her training but never utilized any herself, preferring the upfront fist-to-face approach. In this instance however it appeared as if she'd have to toss away her pride and find a make-shift one at the very least.

The Black Reaper
Hei saw her body shifting into a fighting stance, her body tensing and relaxing at the same time, the tell-tale of someone who knew the ways of close-quarters combat. It was easy to tell she wore that uniform for more than just a fashion statement. Then again, his own outfit worked in that respect as well, all of it fulfilling a practical function. From the bulletproof coat to the harness he wore underneath it to hold his grappling line and knives, his garb was pure functionality. It seemed she was no different in that regard, her clothes well suited to the movements and style of Chinese martial arts. It was possible she would manage to put up a fight.

He remained stoic as she taunted him, and in mere moments, he had closed the gap between them. The heavy blade came down through only air as the girl managed to dodge it. The blade whistled as it nicked a few strands of hair, and passed over her shirt, the speed managing to ruffle the fabric, despite being wet. She had good reflexes, managing to dodge such a lightning-fast attack like that. Her jump backwards had gotten her out of reach of his hand as it reached out to grab her by the head. His hand closed around air as she landed a couple yards away. Her stance became more defensive after his initial attack, apparently realizing he was not to be taken lightly. He straightened from his crouched position, and faced her again.

He watched her for a few moments, observing her stance and her posture, contemplating his next move. As he looked, a memory suddenly came back to him. The thing that had been bothering him about her earlier suddenly became clear. She attended Hyakuji High School, just as he did. He recalled having seen her in the halls once or twice, but did not know her name. 'Damn, I can't kill her now. If one of the students died under such suspicious circumstances, it would cause an investigation. I can't jeopardize the mission over something so trivial.' He thought. He would have to settle for getting her out of his way for the time being, but he would have to keep a close eye on her from then on.

Returning his attention to the girl, he remained silent a moment longer, water trickling gently down the motionless form of his mask. In a blur of motion he flung the knife right at her, making sure not to aim for anything vital. In the next instant he had grabbed his wire and thrown it at a lamppost that stood behind her, letting it wrap around securely before it began to retract and pull him upwards in her direction. Once he reached the point he desired, the cable released with a simple tug, sending him falling towards her, his leg extended to deliver a punishing kick from above. She would have to deal with the knife before she could turn attention to him. By the time she did that, he planned to have her right where he wanted her.

Ren

Once again she found herself staring down the faceless opponent, the chill which touched her breast from the last attack now coursing through the length of her spine. Considering it was a blade and not a club she had to admit that the thought of a user which could wield it with enough power to shift the very air left her feeling slightly hesitant, a problem the masked man apparently lacked as she watched him launch into yet another attack. His hand was a blur but Ren was used to such in her world, the sight of the projectile plain to the teen's keen eyes.

The speed with which the blade pierced the air resembled that of a bullet, the power behind it causing the rainfall to disperse along its path. However, while fast, the distance gave the cocky martial artist ample time to judge its path. And so, with an arrogant smirk, Ren whipped her head rearward, calmly arching her back to allow the weapon an unobstructed flight. The rain pelted at her face and chest as she watched the blade soar safely past, hindering her vision enough that she almost missed the fast approaching silhouette descending upon her like a bird of prey. Squinting into the downpour, she inwardly cursed as she swiftly brought her arms up in a cross over her chest, ready to block the incoming attack. Not even she could straighten up in time to dodge such a close strike.

The impending blow came hard and fast, her feet slipping from under her as she was forced into the ground with a thunderous crack, the impact causing her to cry out in pain. She wasn't down yet however. At first it almost looked as if her body were bouncing off the now fractured pavement but a quick glance would show a hand firmly planted on the ground as Ren launched her legs into an upward slice, a powerful kick if she managed to contact anything but otherwise simply an opportunity to throw herself into a backwards flip and away from the danger zone. It was only adrenaline and the fruits of a tough training regimen that dulled the painful jolts which now ran the length of her spine.

Knees buckling slightly as she made her landing, Ren once again cursed under her breath for allowing an overinflated ego to force her guard down. She wasn't certain how he had made such a clean aerial attack but wouldn't allow herself to fall for the same trick twice. All she could recall was that same sound of a zipping line as from before. Glancing forward, she hastily attempted to reorientate herself and get a grip on the situation, unwilling to let her opponent press the advantage. The heavy drone of rainfall was now all around, clattering against the tin roofs of the warehouses and causing her clothes to cling to and weigh her down as they soaked up the water; an impediment she could only hope her opponent was having as well. Whatever happened next she was sure of only one thing, she couldn't take another hit like that.

The Black Reaper
Hei came down hard on the girl's arms as she blocked his kick as she blocked it as best she could. In truth, Hei was surprised she had managed to get her arms up to block it at all. Still, a hit that powerful was going to make an impression on her, and it certainly seemed that way as she was forced down onto the pavement hard. Then she came back up somehow, and he caught a brief glimpse of her hand pushing her up. As her kick came up as well, he spring-boarded off of her, the kick only managing to knock one of his arms away a little.

He flipped and landed on his feet a few yards away. She had done well so far, and she was no slouch when it cam to her art. It was clear she had been training for quite some time. Still, this was taking far too long, though in truth the fight had only been going on for a little over a minute at this point. He needed to leave before someone found them and caused him even more trouble.

The rain slid off his clothing, the top of his head the only thing that was soaked. He had too many missions in bad weather to not have clothing that repelled water. It seemed that his opponent wasn't so fortunate. Her clothes were now clinging to her curvy body, and would clearly cause her to have difficulty moving at top speed. He needed to take advantage of the situation while he could.

With that in mind he gripped the small clip on the end of his wire, then threw it as fast as possible, aiming for her legs. If he could knock her onto her back, he would be in a perfect position to bring this fight to a close. As the wire made its way to her, he jumped at her, his left hand reaching for her head, not with a punch, but with an open hand, as if to grab her face.
