More than a Ghost on a Shipwreck
It was sort of late, and there was no doubt that Evan didn’t want to be wondering around in the suburban district anymore. It wasn’t anywhere that he liked to be in the first place, since there wasn’t a lot there except houses. He was wondering what he was even doing there. Well the real reason he was there was because he heard that a guy who could wield light powers was seen in the area, but alas there had been no luck, and so Evan had just been deluding himself by saying he was just wandering around.

The streetlights cast an eerie glow, and Evan was sort of afraid being all by himself. There was some sort of strange chill in the air, but then at the same time there really wasn’t. It was a strange sensation. He felt like he was being watch, but there was no one around.

The truth was that Evan wasn’t a fan of the dark, and being in the dark alone was also something that he didn’t really like. It was fine though, for he had plenty of paper to protect himself with if need be, but at the same time he hoped that it wouldn’t come down to something like that. Just in case he grabbed a few pieces and made them razor sharp, just in case something jumped out at him, or something scary happened.

Something about suburban neighborhoods. It was the idea of the neighbors themselves that really scared them. He began to wonder what went on in those houses. Who knows, there could be some crazy psycho just living in one of them, waiting for a poor defenseless paper master to be walking down the street. It was stupid to think about it, but there was no denying that he was doing it.

Without much else to do he continued to walk down the street trying to make it back downtown and then back to school. He just wanted to get out of the area with all the dark houses, and the strange glow of the streetlights…

Was that so much to ask for?

For Ada, Hyakuji was something she could have studied on Google Maps, it was that actually and through the use of her mother's contacts and information, she learned as much as she could about the lands. But in truth, there was only so much you could study from a far on places. She wanted to get a handle of the area, of the nooks and crannies that she could hide things in or possibly hideout in, she could scout the corners where members of the street gangs sold their illegal substances or attacked each other. It was called intelligence gathering taught to her by someone who was an expert at it, the information she would obtain would serve her someday as she was part of Wo Shing, somehow it would she hoped.

Suburban attempted to recreate the rural calm atmosphere with the city style, Ada knew full well that the house wives needed their smacks to keep them from going to file domestic abuse cases on their husbands for each smack they get from his part, ruining the life of the children in the process. Maybe one wasn't getting enough from staying at home all day, maybe she had a lover in the Pool boy or the Gardener. These thoughts swirled her head as if she could think of every possible storyline that Desperate Housewives back home tried to do, without even having watched it...

CUE BGM:

Her thoughts began to creep into her childhood, her home in Kitagunma...not too far from Tokyo or Hyakuji, The arguments in her home, her mother was a tough woman but she could not help but argue with Jun over the fact that he kept away from the house for such a long time that when he did come it would break her, turn Marina into hysterics and he would be forced to stay a while after a huge argument and she would head into her own work. She would switch hands, they would fight and she was sure neighbors heard, it was almost unnatural for a man and woman to fight in Japan, Ada thought but it happened with her. But as she grew older they grew out of it, Ada came to think that maybe...in of these houses someone else was wondering if they're parents were going to leave them because of their arguments and bickering...she could not help but think this as she came upon a man as she walked up the streets, her eyes own light hazel-green eyes looking at him quickly up and down. Holding light brown un-maintained hair which a woman could notice easily, he had some form of muscle from what she could estimate from his chest at the moment, she came to wonder why he was the only one on these streets at this hour like her...Her heels pitter-patter came to a stop at him.

"Say, would you mind telling me where we are? I'm sorta new to Hyakuji." Adrianna asked in a nervous tone even adding in her best nervous chuckle, putting on her best, scared face to possibly find out why he was around here at this hour through casual conversation, plus a human shield that was cute was alright to have, no? Her red asian butterfly patterned dress hugged her body nicely, with a slit rising to her waist revealing the sensuous curves of her body, even black pumps to match her. Her short black hair moved lightly with a breeze as she tried to look as if she couldn't keep her cool and her arms folded, maybe a little cold?..."Naughty Miss Huang..."

As was her custom, Morgan strode through the empty Hyakujian streets on her nightly constitutional. There was a certain comfort in being in such darkness, her identity hidden even from herself. So long as that eye was covered, there was no one who could see her in the dark better than anyone else. She was, in a sense, isolated from the world. Her cane clacked rhythmically against the sidewalk with each of her footfalls, like the third beat of a metronome that waltzed her step by step through the night.

This was her first time traversing the suburban residency on her walks and she had been quite curious to see it. The personally foreign middle class neighborhood was much different than what she was used to back home, but the stale peace and monotony of each home, every one being more identical than the previous, remained. However, it seemed that walking through what Morgan felt was a living movie reel, designed to give the appearance of movement using a revolving background, gave her the very real peace to reflect on herself.

The last standing member of the Flameheart family had begun to adopt new identities since the success of her last 'costume party' as it were. If she was to attract powerful allies, she would need a strategy that could adapt itself to the individuals she required. Morgana had created a few as a starting point, but was at a loss as to where to begin to test such unique personae. If she was even capable of pulling off such complex and utterly different personalities on a regular basis without slipping in the first place, but if a Phantomhive Butler couldn't do something as simple as that, then where would we be?

Morgan rounded a corner, a long dark sidewalk stretched out before her lit only periodically by the soft glow of electric lamps. An uncomfortable feeling ran up her spine at the site of the long walk as it faded into the dark horizon as if threatening to stretch on into forever. She tightened her cape and tilted her hat downward slightly like shields against the cold and against the shadows before continuing down the walkway, her cane always one step ahead. A short ways on, Morgan noticed the silhouettes of two other individuals and tightened her grip on the silver walking stick.

It was suspicious for people to be communing this late at night and she wouldn't be caught unprepared by fools looking for an easy target. As she drew closer, the figures became clearer, lit dimly by the pale yellow lamps. One was a younger boy, his youthful face contrasted on a body he'd obviously spent some time working on. Though he had the build of a thug, his face was honest and unspoiled, but given her own looks she knew better than to trust an innocent face. Attempting to hang on to the young man was a taller woman with a body much too developed to be the same age.

Her clothes hugged the sides of body, squeezing them in the most sensual places possible with legs designed and exposed for a 'come hither' gait that would make her wiggle in just the right places. Morgan felt a disgusted catch in her throat at the sight of it. Though she had no illusions about the world, seeing a prostitute working the streets of such a simple part of town broke the purpose of the illusion of suburbia as a peaceful utopia. The streets were practically empty anyway, what would she be doing working a place like this to begin with?

There was of course, the possibility that he had already hired this woman and brought her here. Morgan smiled as she walked within a few yards of them. At the very least, they had the tact to hide their ill-dealings in the isolation and anonymity of night. Slowing her pace as she approached, her cane-conducted waltz became a slow dance as her eyes closed to avoid eye-contact with either of these characters. But of course, her nature wouldn't let her simply walk by without saying a word.

"I had wondered about the state of the underclass of Japan. It's a comfort to see that women of such easy virtue thrive, even in a culture that so values respect and discretion. Good evening to you both." Morgan tipped her hat respectfully as she continued to walk slowly past them.

The dolls were once more lined along the road, as always. When they had first appeared was a mystery. A person passing by had seen it first only a year ago. A single doll a great length down the abandoned road. The second had appeared the next night. Slowly the length of the road had been completely lined with dolls. At first people shattered them and wrecked them but misfortune or death fell on each persecutor of these porcelain pieces.

They were now feared and respected. The shattered ones sat, eerily staring though their bodies were broken. They each had the same face but a different outfit. Each one was carefully crafted and even maintained considering that they were left out in the rain and elements. It seemed one appeared every few days now.

This road had been merely abandoned before, but now it was avoided. A road which only the daring might chance.

You stand at a road, dolls on both sides lined up along it as if leading the way into the abandoned realm of mystery and intrigue. Many had fallen trying to learn the secrets of these dolls. Today three more stand ready to accept the challenge or turn their backs to it in justified fear. What do you do?

Evan continued to walk forward for a little while longer, hoping that this strange feeling of being watched would simply fade away, but it didn’t. That was about the time that a young woman showed up next to him. Saying that she wasn’t attractive would be an insult. She was probably one of the prettiest young women he had ever seen, but he steadfastly listened to her question and nothing more. He had a girlfriend and he wasn’t going to go thinking about other women when he had one. Evan wasn’t that kind of boy. He was a douche, but not a dick…well maybe a little of both.

“Yeah right now were are in the middle of the suburban area. We are about a mile from downtown so you aren’t too far away if that is what you are looking for. If you just keep following this street for a while you’ll run into it. It’s no fun being new, and being in the dark in a town that you don’t know. Do you need some company to get to your destination,” he asked with a smile. He didn’t know why he was being so nice. Evan was usually never this nice to anyone. That slit in her dress was probably helping the situation a little bit.

Then someone else came along. Someone, appearing to be a man slowly made his way towards them. He was using a cane, and he was nowhere as nice as the young girl who had met Evan a few minutes earlier.

“Excuse me but I don’t think that you need to talk to her that way. She isn’t some tramp, whoever you are. I think that you need to treat strangers with just a little more respect,” and again he could only wonder why he was being so nice.

And then it was about this time the he saw the dolls that began to appear up and down the sides of the streets. Evan didn’t know what they were, but he began to wonder if these were what he felt like were watching him. The way that they were positioned looked as though they were trying to lead them somewhere, but that was a dangerous though. Mysterious dolls leading you somewhere, that didn’t seem like a place, Evan wanted to go.

“What the hell are those things?” He just looked at them, and walked closer to one. He thought of touching it against his better judgment, but then he didn’t. He was too afraid, their gazes were frightening. “Do the two of you know what they are?”

As though he was only asked for some strange reason he began to follow where they were, curious as to what they were alluding to, and hoping that they were not alluding to his death.

“Come on! We should see where they are going.”

The man seemed rather nice, a nice she barely experienced before. Most people would just point you and leave you to die in the middle of the street but this guy offered to take her. She didn't need it but, a meat shield for anything that might pop it's head always seemed so tempting. "Wow, your really nice. That would be great..." Ada said before she was interrupted by someone else, someone who could only be described as the nastiest little runt she could ever hope to hear speak, at least on the fact of what the runt would say. Her fists clenched up, she was about to throw the most concentrated punch of focused ki energy into her fist to send the most impressive punch that the runt and the man had ever seen. Luckily she caught herself, she wasn't going to overreact as she would normally for this nice man defended her. Ada's glare would state all that she wanted to tell her, unspeakable words that should not be uttered as she tried to act like a lady this time.

[Cue: BGM]

But just as Evan spoke, she came to see the dolls lining the both sides of the roads. Something she didn't take notice of earlier. It wasn't usually wasn't like her to carelessly miss such a detail. These things, as if they lead somewhere also piqued her interests. She would follow Evan, "I suppose they're some weird creepy dolls, probably some prankster..." she replied not so sure of the answer but, who really knew.

"Tag along if you wish, don't want to see what happens if the dolls caught you all alone after we leave," Adrianna added in looking back at her as she tried to catch up to Evan. She wondered if the dolls should be further inspected by her eyes' special ability, but that would take too much effort, wouldn't it?

Her single, unblinking eye remained trained on Ada's face as she glared back, Morgan's face unflinchingly judgmental in appearance. "I respect people who choose to show respect for themselves." She looked up and down Ada's body, most of it hanging out on display like a public park statue dedicated to the memory of the sacrilege of morality and decency. The younger man suddenly interjected, obviously spying unusual. Morgan lazily turned her head to face edge of the sidewalk, her eyes suddenly going wide at the sight.

The sidewalk was lined, edge to edge, in morbid looking porcelain dolls. They reminded her of the kind she had played with as a child, but something was clearly off about these. Why hadn't they noticed those before if they'd been there the whole time? Several of them were broken, but all of them still stared at the three of them with the same bright, soulless eyes that stirred unease in the young Phantomhive. What's more, the longer Morgan stared at them, the more she thought she could feel her eye tingling behind her eyepatch.

Steadying herself, she closed her eyes for a moment, reopening them with their usual dull, focused expression. "I think it might be best if we-" looking back over, the two of them had already begun to follow the dolls to their source, leaving Morgan standing there by herself. "Hey! I was still speaking!" They didn't appear to pay any attention to her and she cursed quietly under her breath. Sighing Morgan began striding after them, cane in tow. "Just wonderful, I'm going to get myself killed trying to babysit a degenerate and his call-girl."

The path was not long, it curved it's away from the main roads into ever thinning subdivisions. House foundations were scattered around but none had been completed beyond that point. The reason the road was abandoned was because the subdivision being constructed off of it was abandoned. Why or to what end was not immediately apparent to the three. For now they were simply traveling along the path.

Besides the marks of construction every so often was a scorch mark, radiating outwards with increasing frequency along the path growing more and more common until they viewed what was obviously the epicenter. The foundations near then had been slowly sporting more and more advanced stages of being completed homes until they reached the only fully developed and completed building This house was old and decayed with time. The foundation was broken and the house had shifted off a bit causing the entire structure to be angled badly and a thread for simply falling apart. The dolls stopped at it's door.

It seemed they had found themselves at a dead end. At places like that you had only two options. Follow the path back or journey where you are so obviously told not to.

Evan was interested by these dolls. It wasn’t like him to be impulsive like this either, and so he was kind of liking how he was actually going along with something. Sure he jumped into the perfect circle, and would chase after Jameson, but that was usually because other circumstances made him, this was the first time that he was really doing something because he wanted to. Not to mention that he was with this new person, Ada, who was pretty cool. He wasn’t thinking of anything other than Nana, but Ada seemed like an interesting person.

That was when the reached the house. It was burnt and looked like it was in shambles. Looked his ass, it was in shambles. He wondered why this area was even around, and why the hell the dolls were going up to that one house.

“Well, should we go in?” He didn’t really know, and so he wanted to wait for everyone to get there, especially the guy with the cane. He knew how long it would take him. He didn’t really want the guy around anyway, he was sort of a jerk, but maybe if he was around others for a little while he would become nicer.

“It looks a little dangerous, but I think it could still be fun to go in…and I sort of want to know what those fucking dolls are…”
