Sirus sighed sadly as he stared at the temple steps. He took a step towards them, however a car squealed around the corner at the exact time, sending a spray of water which soaked him. He staggered back, falling and busting his butt on the stone steps causing him to wince painfully. "AHHH!" He yelped grabbing his butt. He stood to turn and take a step, however he slipped from turning too sharply and fell again, planting his face into the steps this time. "...Chaaaaa!" He groaned rubbing his nose as he teared up. "Well it's not like he meant to get me all wet.. It was my fault for bein too near the puddle.." he said rubbing his nose. He carefully and slowly crawled to his feet before standing up on the steps. A smile spread over his features as the sun peaked out from a cloud, his body already began converting it to food via photosynthesis and because of that he felt revitalized. He closed his eyes and whistled cheerfully, taking a step up the steps only to land on a crack and twist his ankle causing him to fall back down the steps he'd climbed. He groaned. "Man.. I really gotta watch where I'm going!" He said hoping he hadn't broken his back. "Well at least I didn't fall on anyone.. Thank goodness it was just me.." He said standing up. He walked to the loose step examining it. "...Well.. I just bought it but.." He shoved his wallet into the crack with a smile. "better for me to pay ten bucks then someone trip and fall.. And It's not like I should bother the priests with something like th..." He checked his cards. "Did I leave my money in there..?" He said with a whimper. Edited by Cypriss, Apr 5 2010, 11:41 AM.

Religion, or Theology in general, was a sensitive subject for most God fearing people but for Liara, this was not the case. She would study every single flaw in a religions teachings, find its loop holes and contradictions, its truths and lies...everything she could more or less. It was a subject she enjoyed very much actually as it was a difficult task to study such a topic without insulting any of the followers of faith. Liara was never one to disregard others though so she came to the temple to pay her respects and learn from practicing the religion for awhile before conducting any further research. "Hmm...", She hummed to herself as she tapped away at her IPad meticulously before moving it aside to see...a wallet? Curiosity demanded she investigate and investigate she did. With a swift pick up of the wallet, Liara realized some...foolish person used the wallet to keep a broken step in place instead of something like say...oh...a wedge-shaped rock for instance? If even common sense was payed any mind too, This would not have happened. "I suppose it would be best if I returned it...", She said to herself before opening it to find any identification. Alas, All the cards and such were removed...but the money was left inside. Either this person was a great fool for forgetting his money in the wallet or an even greater fool for forgetting where the offering box was. Luckily for this person, Liara was brilliantly talented at using simple elementary deduction. The wallet was wet...it would have been dry by now if it had been there for more then a few hours judging from it's material and the fact that it was no longer raining which obviously means the previous owner of this wallet wasn't too far behind. Liara shook her head a bit before adjusting her glasses, taking further steps into the shrine. "Excuse me...", She asked in a low, respectful voice towards the only other man in the shrine at the moment. "Did you happen to forget something back by the steps, sir?", she finished, not telling the man what he had "dropped" just in case he was in fact not the man she was looking for even though he WAS soaking wet, making him the prime suspected owner of the wallet. Sirus had long abandoned the wallet because he couldn't afford to waste anymore time on such a thing! After all he had come with a purpose! He was going to draw a luck paper and pray! He was hoping if he did then maybe he'd have less accidents? Even if it was silly he just wanted to atop running into so many things and getting banged up. However as he finally reached the top of the massive stairs he was approached by a girl with his wallet. His eyes widened in shock as she asked him if it belonged to him. Oh no! If this was the case then clearly he had inconvenienced her, right? It's not like someone would come all the way up the steps just to return a wallet to an idiot like him. It had to be something like his wallet had injured her. He rubbed his neck nervously wondering if he'd have to pay for doctor bills or something because of this. He really didn't have that kind of cash! "Ah... Oh no!!" Sirus said nervously. "Did you trip on it.. or.. Did it cause you a problem..?" He rapped his forehead with his knuckles. "I'm such a doofus! I sohulda tucked it in tighter.." He said worried. He turned and reached into his pocket to give her some money right away lest she get mad, but then he remembered she had it. "Can you give me my money so I can give it back to you?" He said with a weak frown, chewing his lip nervously. |

Liara stood there as the young man apologized and put himself down and seemed...well...frazzled in general. His request also was quite odd. If Liara was looking for money from returning the wallet, She'd simply take the money that was within and dispose of the wallet. She decided it be best if she helped the young man calm down. "Please, calm down. I have not fallen, I simply noticed it lodged in the step. I had come here in no inconvenience to myself and just thought it'd be polite to return it.", Liara said before she held out the wallet gently. "The name's Liara and I came here to pay my respects. What's yours?", she finished with a smile. |

".... PHEW!" Sirus turned form her bracing himself against a wall. "I was so worried... I thought I'd done something bad trying to be good.." He said hanging his head a bit as he caught his breath from the whole situation. However after a moment he seemed to perk up. "So you're here to pay respects? That's good.. It's good to keep your ancestors and lost loved ones in your heart.. It's why I like Shintoism.." He turned and looked towards the box with a mixed expression. A wiry smile was forced into his features. His brother had never believed in ghosts and god. He'd always faced forward with that sort of stern resilience that nothing was there. SO when he sent back letters about undead, ghosts, and demons Sirus was a little shocked. Not to mention they fought actual gods on a regular basis. As such it was hard in Hyakuji to NOT believe in these sorts of things. Sirus was thus here to have his ancestors take away his bad luck. Specifically his brother. "Well I guess I won't bother you any further.." He said taking his wallet back. "Sorry to have imposed.." He said brushing his hair from his grey eyes with a small frown. In truth he was still worried he had been. Not only that but he was still getting in her way way even now. He turned sharply, marching towards the bin of small sticks. The sticks each had a number and the number would lead to the fortune. "Best Luck" "Worst Luck" "Good Luck" "Bad Luck" etc. For now he only hoped he didn't get worst luck again.. Liara paused for a moment as the young man stated what Religion this temple was built and stood for. She smiled as she was quite familiar with Shintoism to be honest and was glad it was a topic she had already touched on. The young man then went on to apologize and said he imposed but actually...He was just perfectly placed to be honest... "Oh you didn't impose. I'm actually new to this whole...Shinto thing and was wondering if you could help me pay my respects and what have you. I don't want to do anything wrong after all.", Liara said...speaking a half-truth in order to get her way. She felt kind of bad lying to this guy as he was quite kind and well, seemed a tad naive. She hadn't gotten his name yet but was hoping he would state it so she could enter it into her database of met people here in Hyakuji as well. Nice, friendly people like him were hard to come by in today's world and it was breath of fresh air.... |

"Ah.. You just pick a stick.." He said pointing to them but not daring to touch lest his bad luck spread to her like some sort of contagion! He turned to motion towards the fortune box. "Each one corresponds to a fortune in a numbered box. Match your stick to the box and draw your fortune. If it's good keep it, if it's back then hang it on the close like with a clip and your ancestors will take the bad luck away after you pray.." He said with a smile. He walked to the box drawing out his lot. However as he did he noticed a small child drop theirs. "Ah. I got it!" He said cheerfully. He knelt and got the one they dropped, noticing it was 'Wost Luck'. He glanced to them with a frown before swapping his with theirs. He handed it off to the kid with a grin. "I wonder what it is..?" He said with a laugh, somehow he imagined he'd given the kid something worse than worst luck. "Ah! It's best luck!" the kid said cheerfully. Sirus looked like he might cry.. B-b-best luck?! he'd drawn best luck and traded it off?! Of course that was... that was just.. JUST HIS LUCK! He sighed heavily and hung the worst luck up to a clip. "Mataku.. That's just like me. I really do bring all this misfortune on myself.." He said with a sheepish smile as he planted his hands in his sides. "What did you get?" He said turning to the girl with great interest. |

"Best Luck...", Liara said holding a stick in her hand with a smile. "It's standard statistics to be honest. Its..", Liara stopped herself short...remembering the last group of students she went off on a scientific rant with didn't...really like her much. "Its...Let me try FOR you...", Liara finished before grabbing another stick...getting O.K. luck this time. "Here...Take this one.", She said with a smile, knowing that this was probably much better then his luck already. Liara felt kind of bad for this kid. He puts so much faith into things such as luck when its all just hogwash. If she could teach him anything it'd be to make one's own luck. |

He frowned a bit, shaking his head to decline the offer. Despite what she was trying he didn't feel comfortable with that kind of resolution." Thank you for trying to help me.. but isn't it best if I keep the one I drew..?" He said with a sincere smile. He took the one she'd gotten for him and rolled it up. "I can imagine some old couple or kids.. And they draw it and feel so happy! When I think of that then why waste it on me?" "It's not like I really care all that much. I've always been someone whom struggled with mis-fortunate situations but it's okay. I'd rather they all fall on me than other people.." He said with a kind of far-away look. "Besides" He said tucking the paper back into it's place with an introspective look about his features. "My br.. My ancestors will take the misfortunes away if I just pray, right? That's how the ritual goes anyhow!" He said with a warm smile back to her. Despite viewing himself as worthless he was still exceedingly positive. He saw the good in everything around him but was completely unable to see it in himself. Which was ironic because he was an uncommonly kind individual. "I kind of like that idea.. That they pray so their luck is taken away.. Then that means that all the good and bad that follows is just their own circumstances without the factor of luck.." He stood in front of the bell clapping his hands together twice before bowing his head. "From here on whatever bad that happens is pure random chance and my own doings.. I like that." He said opening his eyes and looking at the bell. Even if he didn't believe in a lot of this it was that which he believed in. He believed in his actions creating the negative or positive. And he believed his brother would watch out for him. His brother always WAS one step ahead of him. Even so he knew he was loved by him.
