Just how long had Lavender been wandering the streets of Hyakuji? Without checking her watch the amethyst-haired aeromancer wasn't sure; but she recalled the sun was still up brightly in the sky after she left Izanai Park following a rather brief meeting with Zander Winston. And by now, it was already dark before she knew it, the streets now being lit by street lamps and the downtown streets beginning to teem with the city's nightlife. Was she wandering aimlessly? Lavender would like to think not - this was probably "area reconnaissance" on her part; being new to Hyakuji she took it upon herself to walk its streets and familiarize herself with every lane and alley.

Lavender clutched at her bag tightly; inside it held Lavender's job resume which she had brought along with her to Hyakuji High for her job interview, the aeromancer being originally interested in applying for a post as a history teacher. After all, being an E'S instructor for SEED Institute meant she was often involved in the study of OoP (Out of Place) Artifacts, which made her believe she was suited to the job. It caused Lavender no small deal of disappointment when she arrived only to be informed that the history teacher post had already been taken.

The name rang a bell to the aeromancer however; Takamachi Miyuki - she'd heard Jameson mention her before, as well as having read through some information about the sharpshooter from Arcadia's personnel records. The first thing about Miyuki that struck Lavender was how she bore an uncanny resemblance to a colleague of hers back in GLADIUS, one Marina Wulfstan. And Lavender thought it would be interesting to meet with this Arcadia operative who had also beaten her to applying for history teacher position at Hyakuji High...

The aeromancer paused outside a bar, her train of thoughts interrupted. Perhaps she had been preoccupied with her thoughts earlier and therefore unaware of the cold weather, but at this point Lavender was indeed beginning to feel more than a little chilly in this early Spring season; a blouse worn over a camisole and skirt wasn't exactly the ideal cold weather attire after all. A couple of stiff drinks would do fine to chase away the cold.

A bell hanging over the doorframe rang softly as Lavender pushed open the door to the entrance, and instantly felt a certain homesickness come over her as she noticed the design of the bar, apparently themed around a Scottish pub. Well, that was certainly a welcoming feeling. The barkeep smiled as the aeromancer approached the bar counter. Before Lavender could order her drink however, her attention was drawn to someone seated nearby...

One of the things Miyuki allowed herself to enjoy. Whisky was her poison of choice as far as alcohol was concerned, and this place had better stock than most. Though thoroughly average in other things, it did stock real scotch, a rarity in a country that made it's own (far inferior) whiskey. Besides, the bartender was competent enough to get the drink order right while being sufficiently incompetent to never remember her face or name.

Which made it all the more quiet here, considering people tended to frequent bars where the guy behind the counter remembers your favourite drink, much less that you've been there before. She didn't really want to be tied to any particular routine, although she'd been visiting this place regularly since the restoration.

Through her time, alcohol was something she never really gave up. It wasn't entirely healthy, but then, so was alot of what she did for a living, and really, what were the odds she'd live long enough to notice?

The ring of a bell.

She caught sight of the new arrival with her peripheral vision, but didn't really pay any real attention to Lavender. A bar was a bar afterall, and everyone needed a drink every now and then.

Silver hair, pale blue eyes, a wiry but not-too-athletic build, a preference for manly fashions. There was no mistaking who this patron was - for in Lavender's eyes she easily stood out amongst the other patrons. There was no mistake about it - it was the one whose face she had seen in the Arcadia files, and the one who beat her to applying for the job as a history teacher at Hyakuji High. "Miyuki?" Lavender called out as she approached Miyuki's table.

"Hmmm?" she turned back to Lavender, still holding on to her drink.

Whatever it was, it had better not be business, or at least be important. She reserved such times to herself afterall, and that no-one else here asked questions or bothered was why she picked this place to begin with.

"Oh, just wondering if you don't mind chatting over several rounds of drinks?" Lavender asked as she gave Miyuki a friendly smile, gesturing towards a chair on the other end of the silver-haired woman's table while at the same time gesturing for the barkeep's assistant. At this point, the aeromancer wasn't sure whether to see Miyuki as a potential friend or a rival - on one hand this was their first meeting although Lavender had some (albeit outdated) information about Miyuki over old Arcadia personnel files. "So, may I?"

"Suit yourself." she shrugged disinterestedly, and with that she returned her attention to her drink. Miyuki wasn't really the sort who was good at getting along with people, and simply preferred to enjoy the scotch. It was at least bloody decent of them to stock the real stuff.

"Suit yourself." Came Miyuki's uninterested reply. Lavender held back the urge to chuckle - besides looking similar Miyuki even shared similar behavioral traits as Marina - namely a thing for strong drinks and the tendency to be a solo flier. It certainly made Lavender feel like she was back home in Nova Oasis, with the aeromancer recalling how the few times she and Marina hung out it always involved a bar and drinks, be it a casual (and often random) meeting or simply kicking back after a GLADIUS mission.

"Thanks," Lavender replied with a smile as she sat down facing Miyuki, resting her bag upon her lap just as the barkeep's assistant arrived at the table to take her order. "I've heard a fair bit about you, Takamachi-san," Lavender said as she rested her hands on the table, fingers interlaced together in a pyramid as she briefly took her eyes off the other woman to see the barkeep pouring a glass of the drink she ordered, a standard 10 year old Glenkinchie single malt whisky, having chosen her drink for sentimental reasons, with the eponymous distillery that produces the whisky being located near her hometown of Edinburgh, reminds her of home, so to speak.

"Whatever they said, half the lies aren't true." she responded in her best Oxford English.

She took a moment to glance at Lavender's order, and then simply resumed attending to her own drink. Unlike the purple haired woman beside her, she preferred highland malts - in this case from the Loch Lomond distillery in Alexandria.

"Lowlander huh?" she wondered aloud

"Whatever they said, half the lies aren't true." Miyuki responded, and Lavender couldn't help but notice the Oxford accent in the silver-haired woman's English; and a pretty good one at that, well enough that over the phone she could easily pass herself off as a native Englishwoman.

"Thanks," Lavender looked up at the barkeep's assistant as he arrived at the table with Lavender's drink of choice - Glenkinchie; single malt whisky from the lowlands.

"Lowlander huh?" Miyuki wondered aloud.

"Aye," Lavender nodded. "Edinburgh, Scotland. Only three distilleries are still operating there, and Glenkinchie happened to be the one located near my hometown." Lavender took a sip from her glass, taking in the fruity taste of the whisky.

"And the name's Smith. Lavender Smith," the aeromancer replied as she raised her glass in a proposing toast stance, smiling. "Never thought I'd meet the woman who beat me to applying for history teacher in Hyakuji High right here in this very bar. And from Arcadia to boot," Lavender let out a slight chuckle.

"My, talk about coincidences indeed."

"I don't really work for them anymore." she shrugged. Her time in Arcadia had been... mostly an exercise in patience. Between the hypocrisy and the near incompetence at the time, it irritated to no end until finally, she had left her employer in disgust. That she managed to wish him well after forcibly severing their contract was something even she wasn't sure how she pulled off. "So what of it?"

"I see," Lavender nodded at Miyuki's response. No wonder that throughout the entirety of the Kingdom Hearts incident she hadn't seen Miyuki amongst the ranks of Arcadia. "Well, just thought you wouldn't mind a bit casual banter over a nice drink or two, you know, like trading some stories from our line of work?" the aeromancer continued as she took another drink from the glass. GLADIUS operatives, special forces, intelligence services - Lavender had worked with these circles before, and whenever individuals from these circles gather for a drink there was bound to be an exchange of stories from their experiences out in the field; grim tales, yet often told with a dash of dark humor.

"I mean, pardon me if I say this, but you remind me of a particular colleague of mine," Lavender commented, chuckling slightly as she took another drink, this time emptying the glass of its contents. Setting the glass onto the table, Lavender gestured for the barkeep's assistant for a refill.

"I don't mind I suppose." she consented "Though there isn't much to talk about."

An inherent problem with exchanging stories of course, was that you had to avoid sharing ones that were still considered 'secret' lest they be overheard by people not cleared to hear about it. This was basically why bars dedicated to such places existed, as even the bartenders would be in the know.

...Unfortunately, this was a rather open, public place. Even if bars were 1 of the most notoriously annoying to bug places on Earth.

"I don't mind I suppose." Lavender nodded at Miyuki's response before the barkeep's assistant stopped by to refill the aeromancer's glass. "Though there isn't much to talk about."

"So, a matter of operational security..." Lavender took a drink of whiskey. "Or are you just being modest?" Lavender smirked at the remark. After all, in addition to the possibility of accidentally divulging classified information when telling stories of one's experiences out in the field, another thing sharing stories of one's experiences in the kill zone could also be seen as a form of bragging - about how much of a badass one was to have cheated death more times than they could count.

"Well, I suppose I don't mind sharing a bit about myself though," Lavender rested her glass on the table, fingers interlaced together before her. "Well, it all started in 2003..." Lavender introduced a bit of her personal history, about how she first joined the GLADIUS Corps as a field agent under the command of her mentor, Sawatari Eiji, better known amongst the OASIS Foundation as "Achilles", as well some of the more eventful bits of the training she received in GLADIUS by veteran special forces units from around the globe.

"...like there was this training exercise back in 2004, an urban war simulation in Afghanistan; I had Cypriss plant a C4 charge to blow open the door of a house that was a suspected enemy hideout," It appeared that after three drinks Lavender's mind had clouded a little, and the aeromancer was getting carried away with her stories, spouting out one tale after another. Which at this point were related to her training and some of the silly mistakes she made back then.

"We then stormed the building to finish off the remaining enemy forces, only to find a woman crying over what appeared to be a prone figure, apparently mourning over a child we inadvertently killed. Well, that had me stunned for a moment, as I wondered if the intel had made a mistake. And that was when she suddenly rose to her feet and we could see the bomb belt strapped to her waist. Then BOOM! She pressed the detonator. Of course, in an actual combat scenario we'd all be dead... and boy was our instructor from the US Marines miffed." Lavender chuckled as she took another drink, deciding to take a break from her story-telling.

"No, it's seriously a lack of anything to talk about."

Her time working before Arcadia was simply as part of a 2-man team. She did the work, he provided the intelligence support and cleaned up the mess, and mostly simply tasked to deal with people or things that upset the various mage associations. That almost everything she had been told to deal with by the associations had been a shithole that often required explosives and a few bullets to sort out was something she didn't care to share either.

The time after and dealing with Arcadia meanwhile, had simply been mass exercises in incompetence and negligence, where she'd found she'd rather be neck-deep in bullshit dealing with it than hanging around a bunch of twats that was too stupid to tell the difference.

Either way, the sort of stories that could be told between 'and so I killed everyone so that the problem would end' and 'and so I was surrounded by retarded fuckwits', there really was nothing that she'd care for anyone to know about.

As for Lavender's story, it was just another failed training exercise, but how did she envy a team that actually attempted to train rather than how the Arcadia twats had instead stood around picking their noses and charging in without plans. How far would they have gotten in such a scenario? ...Probably not very far she judged.

There was a lesson there of course, but it was already something she'd long known about.

"And that's why you screw up there instead. It's cheaper than screwing up when you need it." she snarked.

"And that's why you screw up there instead. It's cheaper than screwing up when you need it." Lavender nodded at Miyuki's statement, chuckling slightly to herself before looking up with a face that was flushed pink.

"Right," Lavender replied in a slightly-slurred voice, tugging slightly at her blouse collar before emptying her glass. "A certain person, a colleague of mine at GLADIUS... would've said something along those lines. Y'know, she even had your face," the aeromancer flashed Miyuki a crooked smile. How many drinks had she taken? Lavender had lost count, that was certain.

The amethyst-haired aeromancer reached into her purse to retrieve a photograph - one of herself, Marina, Liz and Elza against the backdrop of ancient ruins in the middle of a jungle. "See?" Lavender asked as she pointed to Marina in the photo, all the while wearing a crooked smile on her reddened face.
