Personality
Erin is a very busy person - one could almost say that she isn't happy unless she has too much to do. Between her undergraduate research, college courses, and being a mother to a young dragon, it's a wonder she gets any sleep. Early to bed and early to rise, she starts every day knowing what she needs to get done.

On the off-chance she has a moment to herself, she's usually seen reading some academic journal, usually physics, but sometimes from other fields as well. Occasionally, though, she'll be caught with a stray fantasy or sci-fi novel - she owns far more than she could ever finish on her crazy schedule.

She came to Hyakuji as a shy, self-conscious girl - and after five years, she left it a confident woman. She went through a lot, during that time...battling her own weak will...even sinking into depression, at her lowest point.

But her friends pulled her through. They were with her, every step of the way. Without them, she never would have grown up to be such an extraordinary woman.

History
Erin’s experience as a high schooler at Hyakuji was definitely not what she was used to. In her childhood, she had ignored the supernatural side of herself. Truthfully, she felt a little guilty about having powers, even though it wasn't a choice of her own. She felt like she had an unfair advantage, and she would have rather been the same as everyone else. It wasn't that she didn't like being abnormal - she didn't like being 'special'.

At first, she had been a little apprehensive about going to Hyakuji, a place where that side of her would flourish, far more than it had in her quiet hometown. But in a way, it turned out to be exactly what she was looking for. At a school where everyone was special, she ended up being comparatively normal.

She had been somewhat younger than other students, due to the fact that she had skipped two grades in middle school. She was actually a rather intelligent girl, who enjoyed reading and spending time in libraries. Even at Hyakuji, she excelled in most of the basic classes, especially mathematics.

Her first year was filled with new experiences in a new place, and by the end of it, she was more than ready to take on her second. Unfortunately, the world ended. Due to an invasion by extraplanar beings known as the 'Heartless', the existence of Hyakuji's world itself was destroyed, and Erin found herself in a place called Traverse Town.

Eager to reconnect, she quickly put up a flyer, urging any other survivors to come back together. Out of that gathering, an organization known as 'Neo Arcadia' was born, with the intent of fighting back the heartless. Erin did join, but generally tried to stay off of the front lines, sequestering herself to more of a supportive role. Instead of joining the 'Fire Division' which handled field work and combat, she was part of the 'Wind Division' which handled investigation and reconnaissance.

Erin was scared of fighting. It wasn't just that she was afraid of being hurt - she was afraid of being a burden. She was an extremely poor combatant, and more often than not ended up being nothing more than a moving target.

It took a lot of support for her to overcome her feelings of inadequacy. She would constantly compare herself to other students who could destroy heartless all on their own - while she could barely take on the weakest of them. It was the organizer and leader of Neo-Arcadia, Jameson, that helped her realize her path - a man who could come to be her mentor for many years.

As smart as she was, Erin simply wasn't a fighter, no matter how hard she tried to be one. And at the end of the battle with the heartless, she had finally come to terms with that. Her path was different from theirs - and that was all.

Once Hyakuji was restored, she settled back into her relatively normal routine - joining a club with Chizu and Damon, who came to be her best friends. All three of them were elemancers, and they trained together, at the club, strengthening their powers. Throughout her journey through the multiverse, Erin had tried her best to hone her abilities offensively - but even so, they were hardly stronger than a mundane weapon.

Chizu was nearly the opposite of her. While her own attacks relied on blunt trauma and decompression, Chizu was able to directly cut through with blades of air. If she had the right mindset, maybe Erin would have been able to do such things as well...but the thought of hurting someone to that extent held her back. Her offensive abilities lacked focus, because she simply couldn't muster a fighting spirit.

It made her a little jealous. She had settled on her own path, but even so, she couldn't help but wonder, seeing how strong Chizu was. Erin looked up to her...maybe a little too much.

Nickle, another one of her friends at the club, had manufactured a special item called 'Materia', which was supposed to increase an elemancer's powers. Erin picked a yellow one, which would increase the sensory abilities that she had begun to refine, in place of her strength. But she couldn't decide if she was truly satisfied, or merely resigning herself to her fate.

From the moment she allowed the corrupted materia to merge with her, it was too late. Throughout the next few days, it slowly bound itself to her, digging into her soul and flesh - until it was finally able to take over completely.

The power Erin had always seen in others flowed through her. She was stronger than she'd ever been - probably stronger than she would ever be again. Her mind was broken down, insanity taking hold. And in her aberrant state of mind, all of her deepest feelings came to the forefront.

She came to show Chizu how powerful she was now, with a warped smile across her face. The battle was short. Chizu was blown through the wall of the Wind Tower, leaving a gaping hole in the stone that would remain for months to come.

All she had wanted to do was make Chizu proud of her. Erin had never realized...she had always been proud.

Unleashed into the city, the corrupted girl slowly made her way to her next target - Damon Ark. The other club members quickly mobilized before she could reach him - and for the first and last time, Erin became their target.

She still remembers vividly, the time when she attempted to kill her friends by slowly suffocating them, crushing them under domes of compressed air. When Damon finally arrived on the scene, she was thankfully distracted long enough for Nickle and a partially healed Chizu to enter the scene. The club's instructors managed to disable the rogue materia using a 'black materia' that suppressed its effects, and she was able to expel it from her body. In the process, however, she went through an unimaginable amount of pain. Her body was torn apart from the inside out. Even with all of the wounds she had suffered throughout her rampage, the internal damage was far greater. At the end of the ordeal, she laid on the ground in a puddle of her own blood, completely broken.

The physical damage healed, after some time. But the destruction of Erin's psyche was deep. She refused to use her powers. For over a week, she simply laid silently in the infirmary. Her prom dress sat in her closet, unused. She knew that Chizu and Nickle would be there together. If they saw her there, and they were reminded of those horrible things...all it would have done was ruin their night.

All of the things she had kept inside...they had been growing inside of her. Festering. It was all so stupid. All that time, she had thought herself to be weak - it was only her friends who saw how strong she really was. If only she had realized it sooner.

She started her third year less energetically than before. She didn't talk as much as she used to, and she spent more of her time locked in her room, studying just to keep her mind occupied. She rarely smiled. It took her a lot of energy simply to get through a normal day. She could no longer face the people who used to be her dear friends. Even if they forgave her, she had much more trouble forgiving herself.

It was a few months before she started meeting them face-to-face again. They had organized a birthday party for her, to show her how much they cared. She kept the presents she received from all of them - a book from Damon, reference manual from Kaede, a flower petal snowglobe from Lavender, a scarf from Nickle, and a photographed picture from Chizu, depicting all of the aeromancers together, under the undamaged tower. And finally, from all of them, the elemancer club uniform - to tell her that she was still one of them.

It was only then that she truly began to recover. She started going to the club regularly again, and seeing and talking with her friends when she could. As her third year at Hyakuji came to a close, she steadily began thinking about the future again - what college she'll go to, and what she'll do with her life.

Later that year, Hyakuji's troubled began anew, with threats from across timelines. Accepting a request from her old mentor, she accompanied Jameson on a mission back in time, to retrieve one of the pivotal 'time stones' from the age of knights. It was as they were trying to quell the war between King Arthur and Sir Lancelot that they visited an enclave of dragons, who had been at war with the humans of that age. She was tested in a vision, and shown the horrors of war - and when her sense of peace prevailed, she was given a single egg, chosen to bear the future of dragonkind.

She didn't quite know how to deal with it at first. But she came to care for it deeply, taking care of it as well as she could while she kept up with school. The egg sat quietly for months, before it finally began to hatch - Erin called Jameson over to her dorm room to help her through it, as she became the 'mother' of a silver dragon wyrmling.

She named the baby dragon Argent, and has been taking care of her ever since - the dragon soon took a human form, as a little silver-haired girl, whom Erin loved, and still loves, with all her heart.

Attempting to balance raising a dragon, schoolwork, club activities, and even a part time job at a daycare...it was a busy life with a full plate, but Erin wouldn't have it any other way. She was accepting the responsibilities of an adult, and growing up. Her graduation date approached, and for once in her life, she felt ready for anything that would come ahead.

The others had all graduated already. She had always been the youngest of them, the one who relied on them the most. And through it all, Damon had been the one closest to her. He was the one who spoke to her when she was depressed, the one who organized the birthday party for her...and the one person she cared for the most.

She had realized it long after her feelings had first developed, and she didn't quite know when it had begun. But it was then that she finally realized...she liked Damon.

Even now, she still thinks about him, wondering about those feelings - if maybe it was just a crush, or if they were still truly present, after everything. But even so, she could never say anything. She had kept quiet when they were together, and taken her secret with her. Her friendship with Damon and Kaede was something that she could never tarnish.

As her train arrived at the station, she left the city, and all of the wonderful friends she had met there, with an earnest, heartfelt smile.

In a small café, in one of the quieter parts of Hyakuji's bustling downtown area, a woman slowly stirred her tea, light wafts of steam rising from the cup. Her train would arrive in three hours - just enough time to have tea with an old friend.

All of her friends had made their own way, one by one. Chizu and Nickle were married, raising an elemental of their own. She imagined Kaede and Damon would follow suit eventually. If nothing else, they had Kage to take care of.

And of course, she was caring for Argent on her own. Even if things had gone differently, she doubted she would have had the time to pursue a romantic relationship, in addition to everything else. Even she had her limits, when it came to responsibilities.

"Where's the guy with the cool hair?" The child asked impatiently, legs swinging in front of the windowside seat of the modest booth. Argent had wanted to see him, too - and maybe Kage, one more time. Erin simply smiled, looking down into her tea.

"I invited him, but..." Her voice paused as she finally picked it up, blowing on it to ease away the heat. "...I guess I expected that he wouldn't come."

The woman took her first sip, as her child looked up at her with a disappointed frown. "He isn't coming?" She asked, unusually stoic as always, but with a slight hint of sadness in her voice. "Why not?"

Erin merely set the teacup back down onto the small plate, turning her head towards the window. "...That guy hates saying goodbye." She said quietly, gazing out at the city she had spent so many years in.

Throughout all the good and the bad...she was grateful that she had come here. Even with all of the pain she had gone through, there had been happiness in equal measure. She couldn't imagine what her life would be like, if she hadn't met them all.

Damon...Chizu...Kage...Nickle...Chizu...Lavender...all of them had been so close. Even though they were all parting ways, she was sure that those bonds would remain for the rest of their lives.

"Do you think we'll ever see them again?" Argent asked hopefully, looking up at her mother again. Erin slowly drew out her wallet, opening it to a photograph that she had kept with her for years. The picture of herself, Chizu, and Lavender, standing outside of the Wind Tower, on the first day she had joined the club. She could almost picture the others behind them, standing beside her.

An image where they all stood together. A memory that she would cherish for the rest of her life.

"...Maybe."

Powers and Abilities
Erin is an elemancer, specifically an aeromancer. With negligible energy loss, she can change wind’s direction, speed, etc. without much difficulty, unless she is attempting to do so over a very large area, or from a very large distance. For some lightweight, slow moving projectiles such as thrown stones, a quick gust of wind can change their trajectory to deflect the threat. However, this does not work on faster projectiles such as arrows or bullets.

Before Erin can control any volume of air, she must take it under her control. When she does so, the affected air takes on a bright green hue that is clearly visible to any onlookers. This process takes 1 second, and if Erin is to expand her influence to any volume of air, she must have a physical path to it, meaning that there must be a contiguous trail of air between her and the air she wishes to take control of. For example, she could expand her influence to air on the other side of a wall if there were a hole through it, but she wouldn't be able to form air bubbles underwater, as the water itself forms an airtight barrier.

Expansion of influence is only required for advanced aeromancy - if she is performing a simple action that falls under basic aeromancy, she can perform these actions instantaneously, and across any area within eyesight of her location. These actions would be recreations of mundane states that would not constitute storm-level weather conditions, directly cause damage, or affect heavy objects - for example, blowing away a piece of paper, calming a windy day, or dispersing a thick fog. Expansion of influence is required for more advanced usages of aeromancy, including anything that would constitute an attack. Erin's radius of control is 30 meters, meaning that she cannot expand her influence or perform aeromancy outside that range.

Windsight – A supportive ability. Erin's strength as an aeromancer is primarily in sensory abilities. While most aeromancers can sense the air around them, she is able to do so far more precisely than others. As all solid objects naturally displace the air around them, they will leave 'silhouettes' that Erin can use to pick them out, even in darkness, or if the person or object is invisible (but not intangible). In essence, when she senses the air, she indirectly senses the location of solid objects, as air and solids cannot occupy the same space - in sensing where air is, she also senses where air is not. Making use of Windsight requires her to close her eyes in order to focus, sacrificing her normal sight. The range that she can use Windsight far exceeds that of her normal eyesight, but it becomes less and less accurate as the distance increases.

  • At a distance of 100 meters, she can easily pick out humanoid silhouettes. She can sense them clearly enough to recognize specific people if she's seen them before. Even if an object is human-shaped, like a training dummy, she can tell whether or not it is breathing by the fine movement of the air. If an object is moving, she can determine its direction and speed with precision.

"Chizu is upstairs right now. I can get her for you if you like."

  • At 200 meters, she can still tell humanoid silhouettes apart from objects. However, she can only sense the presence or absence of a person, and can't recognize specific people. If an object is moving, she can get a general idea of its direction and speed.

"There's someone out there, but...I can't tell what they're doing..."

  • At 300 meters, she can no longer tell a person apart from a small tree. She can sense the presence or absence of objects, but cannot distinguish size differences between them of less than one meter. She can only sense the movement of objects if they are moving at least 10 m/s (35 km/h).

"There's something heading towards us, by land...it's coming in fast, but I can't tell what it is..."

  • At her maximum distance of 500 meters, objects will only show up on her radar if they are at least as large as an automobile, and are moving at least 20 m/s (70 km/h). She can get a general feel of the terrain, capable of distinguishing a mountainous area from flatland.

"I can sense the train...it's heading west. There's a mountain that way, so I think it's going into a tunnel."

Expansion of influence and radius of control do not apply to this ability, as it is purely sensory and does not involve controlling the air. However, there must still be a contiguous trail of air inbetween her and an area she wants to view through Windsight. Note that the distances above are not necessarily straight-line distances, but the distances of the shortest trail that can be drawn through air between her and the target area. Unlike normal sight, Windsight works as 360 degree vision, allowing her to be simultaneously aware of everything around her. She can even control air that wouldn't normally be within her line of sight, although it must still be within her radius of control. Using this ability, it would be feasible to mentally map out a building through its ventilation ducts, and know the locations of anyone inside.

Impact – A physical ranged offensive ability. Erin collects and compresses the air around her, and then releases it in a controlled direction. Air will naturally move to reach an equilibrium with the surrounding air if undisturbed. When Erin collects the air, more air moves in to replace the air she compressed. This creates a large rush of wind that signals the oncoming attack. As Erin holds the compressed air, she is consciously holding it back from spreading out to reach equilibrium with its surroundings. If she 'let go' of the air, or if she lost her concentration, explosive decompression would occur naturally, and the effect would be comparable to an exploding tire. When she uses Impact, however, she is controlling the direction that the air expands in, focusing it towards a target, and accelerating it as it is released. The effect is a fast-moving blast of air, the force of which is sufficient to break bones against a normal human, and cause significant knockback. However, as it is a blunt force attack with a very wide surface area, it is unlikely to cause lethal damage even in ideal conditions. It is dangerous to fire into melee, but not impossible.

Erin must prefix this ability with Expansion of Influence. She can collect the air at any point within her radius of control, although it becomes more difficult to hold the air in place if it is closer to the edge of her radius, which increases the stamina cost. In addition, she must keep concentration while holding the air in place. If she takes damage while using the ability, the compressed air may simply explode before she can direct it in a controlled fashion. When she has a compressed sphere of air, she can move it at a maximum speed of 10 m/s, though it cannot exit her radius of control. She can also decompress it slowly so that it peacefully dissipates, as long as she maintains control. Due to its high oxygen content, compressed air is highly flammable, and a compressed sphere of air would cause a small explosion if set to a flame.

A full-size Impact sphere requires about as much air as would be in a large room, and as such it is difficult to use indoors, due to lack of material. She can create smaller spheres that pack less of a punch, but form more quickly and require less air to make. She can create Impact spheres of any post-compression volume up to 0.5m3 (diameter 1 meter). She can also distribute the volume between multiple spheres, such as creating two spheres each with volume 0.25m3 (diameter 0.8 meters), and so forth. Creating a sphere takes 1 second per 0.15m3 of volume (max 3.3 seconds), not including expansion of influence. If Erin is creating multiple spheres in parallel, the time is divided among them, such that creating two spheres at once takes twice as long per sphere, and so forth, meaning that the process is not quickened through parallelization. The stamina cost is low enough that Erin can use the attack repeatedly throughout a battle.

Shield – A physical defensive ability. This ability shares the root of its implementation with Impact, however has a much different goal in mind. Erin can compress a large amount of air around her to form a shield, the density of which can be compared to a solid. This requires a very large amount of air, and is not usable indoors, except in a very spacious structure, such as an aircraft hangar or a large ballroom. If she is in a more confined area, she may be able to create a small disk of air that she can use as a shield, which would require less air. The sphere is hollow with her flying inside, allowing her freedom of movement within the shield. The air is compressed to many times the normal atmospheric pressure, such that it changes from a gas to a solid, and cannot be penetrated easily - unarmed attacks made by a normal human would cause no damage. At minimum, a heavy, two-handed weapon would be required to crack it, assuming the wielder had unaugmented physical strength. It can deflect small caliber bullets, but not anything above a .22. An enemy with super strength or a similar power would be capable of breaking the shield entirely. If a physical attack cracks the shell without destroying it, Erin can reform it to repair the damage, which takes 3 seconds.

Similarly to Impact, Erin is constantly keeping hold on the air to stop it from decompressing. However, as the air is closer to her than an Impact sphere generally is (being directly around her), the stamina cost over time is not quite as high, although it does add up over time, and makes it more difficult to concentrate on her other powers. Although the shield is protecting her from damage, if she were to lose concentration due to an attack that bypassed it, it would explosively decompress as normal, posing a great threat to her. As before, compressed air is highly flammable, and the shield renders her extremely vulnerable to fire attacks. As the shield is essentially a sphere of compressed air, Erin can treat a shield as though it were an Impact sphere, and sacrifice the shield to fire off an instantaneous Impact blast if the situation requires it. Creating a shield takes 6 seconds (not including expansion of influence), and can be sustained for about 30 seconds before beginning to take a toll on Erin's stamina.

Flight – A supportive ability. Erin can partially compress the air around her and use it to carry her around, effectively gaining the ability to fly. Her maximum flight speed is 40 km/h, and she can control the flight well enough to make turns without needing to stop. As the air is not compressed to the same degree as with her other powers, she can keep it much longer than she could a shield. She could fly for five consecutive minutes before she would have to stop and rest. Readying the air to allow her to fly takes 2 seconds, not counting expansion of influence. If Erin has a shield up, she can use the shield itself to fly, instead of needing to have both powers active.

Vacuum – A utility ability. With focus, Erin can create and sustain a spherical vacuum in a particular location, by forcing the air out of the desired space, and preventing it from flowing back in. This ability requires more focus than keeping air compressed, as it takes place over a much larger volume. Though she can create smaller vacuums without needing as much focus, there is a limit to the actions she can perform while sustaining a maximum size vacuum. She is unable to use Impact and Vacuum at the same time. She can sustain an already-created shield at the same time as a vacuum, but cannot create or repair a shield. She can still fly and use Windsight - however, Windsight cannot perceive the area within a vacuum, as there is no air - she can sense the presence or absence of vacuums, but not anything within them. This ability requires Expansion of Influence, and if the space designated by Vacuum ever goes beyond her Radius of Control, it collapses immediately. She is able to move an existing vacuum at a maximum speed of 5 m/s, with concentration

Vacuums, when used wisely, can create a number of beneficial or harmful effects. Sound waves cannot travel through a vacuum, meaning that those standing inside one cannot hear anything, nor can they transmit any sound to anyone standing outside of one. Fire also cannot exist within a vacuum, with the exception of self-oxidizing flames, such as those created from burning thermite. If a vacuum is created around an existing fire, or if a fire attack is sent through a vacuum, it is extinguished immediately. Lastly, many forms of flight cannot be used within a vacuum, as wings depend on air to generate lift. Magical flight (assuming it functions via an antigravity effect, or 'just works') still behaves normally, but physical flight, whether it be through bird-like wings or by an airplane's mechanical wings, ceases to function within the vacuum.

The maximum area of a vacuum is a sphere with a volume of 3m3 (diameter 15 meters). She can create smaller vacuums if she wishes, but cannot meaningfully alter its shape - if she did not want the vacuum to be spherical, she could at best make it elliptical instead. When a vacuum collapses naturally, those inside can feel a strong rush of wind, but it is not strong enough to deal damage. If the vacuum is within her Radius of Control, however, she can collapse it willingly, and accelerate the inward movement of air, crushing those inside. The damage of the willful collapse of a full-sized vacuum surpasses that of Impact, capable of breaking multiple limbs in a single blow. The downside, however, is that it cannot be 'aimed', and would pose a threat to any allies that were inside the vacuum. The damage decreases if the target is not at the center of the vacuum, and smaller vacuums deal less damage upon collapse. The creation of a vacuum takes 1 second per meter cubed of volume (max 3 seconds), not counting Expansion of Influence, and can only be sustained for a maximum of twenty seconds before collapsing naturally. While being created, a Vacuum can still function normally as its size increases. Vacuums are taxing to create and sustain, but the skill can still be used multiple times in a battle.
