Zander took a deep breath, his eyes closed as the sun peaked over the edge of the horizon. It's dull orange color was bleeding over everything casting the world in a 'different light' in the most literal of senses. Zander had just left breakfast and had gone to the roof to enjoy the morning light. Since it was rising earlier and earlier as they moved towards summer perhaps soon he'd not get to enjoy it anymore, or the brusque chill that hung in the air before the sun had warmed it up.

He inhaled sharply. At least this, of all the things in the world, still made perfect sense. The sun rose and fell at different speeds due to the tilt of the Earth. But it was all perfectly predictable and logical. He could understand all of this easily because it followed patters. Logic and reason were his sole comforts in the unreasonable state of things lately. The sunrise was also refreshing because.. well.. In The World That Never Was he'd only experienced eternal night for months, then even in the Hub world he was still stuck in eternal night..

He had... missed the light and warmth of the sun. It would even be fair to say he had something of an aversion to the night, now. Too much of anything was bound to get old. He tucked his hands into his jacket's pockets. The headphones on his ears pounded out a steady techno/trance rhythm. It all felt very calming. However within his mind the torrent of questions still remained...

But it was nice to escape all that, just for a little while.

He moved to the fence on the far end of the roof and hooked his fingers into the chain links.His eyes adjusting to look past the wires as if they weren't even there. The campus grounds sprawled out before him, the dormitories, and further out the city. Full of possibilities.. But here he was acting like a loner. He sighed a bit before leaning on the fencing. "Well, at least the typical cliche loner spots are the ones with the cool views.."He said with a laugh.

Setsuna steadily climbed the gently sloping staircase of Hyakuji's highest well. After all the chaos of the earlier day, she'd almost forgotten the entire reason she had come to the school in the first place. The troubled senshi had finally made her way back here today, treading lightly towards the square stream of morning light streaming through the insignificant window of the roof-entrance door. She had gotten here early this time, to avoid running into any more strange events which coincidentally seemed to always occur later in the day.

Spending most of the earlier bits of the day exploring the grounds, Setsuna had actually become quite lost looking through the maze of hallways at the empty chairs and desks, all of which appeared to have gone mostly unused throughout the summer. It was by sheer luck that she'd run into the stairwell leading back to the main floor, but rather than leave, a curiosity tugged lightly at her senses and she now found herself climbing to the top of the school where the morning sun waited to greet her.

Opening the door, she squinted slightly in the warm, soft lighting of the sunrise, her flats plodding silently on the concrete of the roof. It looked no different than the roof of any other high school to her, responsibly fenced and otherwise empty except for...another person. Setsuna spotted another boy, appearing about her own age, clinging to the fence as he stared into the distant sun. She didn't notice the headphones on his head as she approached him.

"I'm sorry, I didn't think anyone else was up here...Hello?" she apologized, gently tapping his shoulder with a finger.

"..Ah, no it's fine.." He said motioning toward her as if to brush away the idea. Rather it was more than fine, exactly what he'd wanted. Still, having it now he realized the flaw in this desire to not be alone was that he had to deal with another person. Not that the girl had been off putting in any way it was just that he was the type to avoid chit chat where it was possible. To say small talk wasn't his strong point was an understatement.

"Despite being here it's not like I particularly wanted to be alone or anything." Which was obviously dumb. If one wanted to be alone they went places like this. If one did NOT then they would go places where others would be. If he wanted to not be alone he was still not sure why he had gone here. It was the unique disconnect between what he wanted and what he actually did towards those desires. He was a master at self-sabotage.

However it suddenly occurred to him that perhaps she DID want to be alone.. "Ah! S-Sorry.. I'll go.." He said without thinking. He bustled to get his things before standing and frowning. Hurm... It seemed like he was acting pretty dumb right now but he wasn't sure where he had begun to go wrong. He threw his hag on his shoulder and checked to make sure he had everything before he left.

She smiled and furrowed her forehead. That was certainly something Setsuna could sympathize with. "This is a strange place to go to find companionship." She commented. It wasn't all that strange to her though; the wayward senshi had spent her fair share of time looking for people in places where she knew she'd never be found. He seemed pretty mellow up here and she wondered if she hadn't interrupted him while he was thinking.

He seemed only now to realize she was there and as if determining her purpose, decided to go. Setsuna held out a hesitant hand as he started to pack up his things. She must have made a mistake of some kind, she didn't mean to run him off. "You don't have to go or anything, I could leave if you liked if you were waiting for someone or if I interrupted something..." If he was going to leave there wasn't much she could do, but trying was always worth something.

Setsuna approached him with a sour look on her face, grabbing the gym bag out of his hand and off his shoulder. "I'm not here to kick you out or anything, really." She held the bag back out for him for him to take it. "I was just looking around and ended up here, got that?" At least if he was going to leave, he'd leave without any misunderstandings about her. That sort of thing really irked her and she wouldn't let him leave with the impression that Setsuna Higashi was 'that girl who kicked me off the roof'.

"That's pretty abrasive grabbing my bag." He said resisting the urge to grab and twist her arm around into a joint lock. He had strange urges. He said this very calmly. Actually the more hostile she got the calmer he was. He operated at his peak in the kind of situation where he needed clarity for his own safety. And his brain perceived this as that kind of situation. However after a moment he relaxed and sat the bag down. When he thought about it it really was silly. He pulled his headphones off to hear her a bit more clearly.

They were both jumping through hoops to not get in the way of the other. It was like some sort of extreme courtesy duel that went beyond reason or logic. It was two people who had similar ideas, except that she seemed to be a bit more hot under the collar. He glanced her way, pursing his lips. Well she was a bit hotter in general, really. He planted his hands in his sides looking away.

"Sheesh what a ridiculous situation.. Arguing over whom should leave for whom.." He said eying the orange colors of the sun across the grounds. "How about this.. We'll both stick around until we're ready to leave without any sort of pressure from the other..? It's not like I'm asking you to stay but this way seems to work out the best for both of us, right?" He said turning away from her before crouching down and opening his bag to dig around in it for his breakfast.

He dug out a granola bar. Of course someone like him who operated like a field agent kept high protein granola bars. It was really so fitting that it was stupid.

She raised a defensive eyebrow, appearing to focus on her more now that she'd made what had to be considered a sudden move compared to the pace at which the two of them interacted. "I just won't suffer a misunderstanding to go on, I was getting my point across to avoid being abrasive." Having only just met Setsuna, he wasn't aware of how abrasive she would become should the situation call for it.

He wasn't here looking to be confrontational with her though. In fact he'd made it fairly clear that he'd leave if she really didn't want him there, but she wasn't about to let him make her decisions for her; especially not ones that made her look selfish. He seemed to understand her motives and she was beginning to understand his a little too as he finally threw down the gauntlet: first one to accidentally cause the other to leave was the loser.

Setsuna would accept such a ridiculous challenge.

"Alright then, if you don't mind being around me for awhile." She said teasingly. Setsuna placed her arms behind her back, leaning against the wall of the stairwell and watched him fiddle with his bag, casually attempting to get a look at it contents. As he retrieved what look like a type snack bar from it, she adjusted her gaze to the far off sunrise, feeling the morning breeze coming off it rustle over her face and hair.

She hadn't noticed it immediately before, but the view from the school's roof was rather striking. "My name is Setsuna, by the way." She arbitrarily, still looking off at the silhouettes of buildings outlined by soft, orange lights. "Higashi Setsuna."

"Well.. It's not exactly like I asked.." He said with a perfectly level expression. However after a moment he cracked a smile. He opened his mouth before pausing.. "I'm.."

"Who am I...? I thought you'd never ask!" He pressed his tumb to his chest. "I'M AMERICAS NUMBER ONE HENSHIN HERO! Jameson B. Willicott! Don't ask what the B stands for though!"

~

An older boy with an eyepatch locked eyes with him. They stared for a moment, Zander was silenced by shock at the state of the other boy. A can and.. and eyepatch... "Are you... how?"

"Heh! Stop acting like it's my funeral!" He turned his head. "After all.. I'm Hyakuji's number one henshin hero and super sleuth! Jameson B. Willcott!"

~~~
"I'm Hyakuji... No! THE WORLD'S NUMBER ONE SUPER SLEUTH AND HENSHIN HERO! Jameson B. Willicott!"
..Well.. it wouldn't hurt to try it.. right? Since he was questioning who he was then maybe he should be more like Jameson..? He shifted standing up. He planted one hand in his sides. "I'm.. uh.." He shifted so his feet were spread apart and he stood up fully. "I'm.. uh.. the dreamweaver who creates..a world filled with dreams! uh...Hrm! I'm Zander Winston!" He said before hesitating a moment and thrusting out his fist with a thumbs up. "Y..Yosh!"
"..."
ander dropped his head. "Yeah I saw a friend do something like that and it was kind of cool.. So.. I was just... trying it out.." He said turning his head away, his cheeks burning with embarrassment. No matter how he looked at it, whoever he really was, HE WAS NOT THE KIND OF GUY WITH A BIG SPEECH! That was so uncool it went beyond words!
"I thought it might be productive to introduce myself since we'll be spending all this time together." She said, shrugging with a smile on her face. It seemed like he really did have a sharpened edge to his polite attitude, acting like getting her name was a favor he hadn't asked for. Although his tone and expression actually felt pretty genuine, so maybe he was just socially awkward? Watching his introduction, she decided that was probably the case.
Setsuna tried to look away, putting a hand over her mouth to stifle the soft laughter attempting to escape her throat. It wasn't all that bad really, but to someone like her, who had made a living out of striking poses with her friends to transform it was a pretty cute homage. His friend would probably be pretty flattered to see him do something like that. "Not bad, really, it just needs a little bit of work." Setsuna stood back up fully and approached the embarrassed Dreamweaver.
"Just watch, okay?" She said, taking a deep breath. Spreading her legs apart, she bent her knees just slightly, tilting her feet a little ways towards each other. Closing her eyes, she focused on the image she associated with her transformation: the butterfly. Setsuna put one hand on her hip, holding the other one out triumphantly as if she were royalty addressing the masses. Her eyes suddenly flashed open, burning with determination as she made her speech:
"In the language of love, the butterfly is the symbol of the timid heart! It's wish is to resurrect impossible dreams! I am the protector of second chances, Setsuna Higashi!" Setsuna threw her triumphant hand behind her to end the declaration, shifting her hip opposite to that hand outwards as if lowering herself into a charging stance. Even as she shifted positions, her eyes remained fixed on the invisible enemy before her.
However, even so focused she couldn't help but smile a little, able to stifle the laugh that wanted to come out. She stood back up back to normal, dusting off her hands and replacing them behind her back. "What do you think? Want to try it again? I'll help you this time." Setsuna offered. By the time she was done with him, his friend would be jealous to see such a spectacular introduction.
"Th...That's so ridiculous.." He said watching her. And what did she mean about butterflies? It didn't even make sense... However somehow a part of him was also watching very closely as if he might learn the hidden secret from her movement. Maybe a part of him was overly studious, it was just his nature to want to learn things the right way. Even useless things like this he couldn't help but watch carefully and figure out how to do it.
"So I should just move my hips." He said with a smirk. "Sashay hip sway~" he said moving his hips a bit. "It's ridiculous, right? You seriously want to teach me something like this..?" He said tilting his head before walking towards her. It wasn't like he wanted to learn it but still he was compelled to go along with it! Maybe he did want to learn it? He wasn't even sure! He decided to just go along with it for the moment.
"Something tells me that idiot would like you.." He said sardonically. There was no reason to mention his death. It stung a bit to do so anyhow, and it would only kill the light mood that had been established. "Okay, posing mistriss. Show me what I should do." He said standing in front of her with his hands planted in his sides, his expression was perfectly level.
"Look, you're the one who brought it up; you were obviously embarrassed doing it the wrong way, so now we're going to do it the right way." She said plainly. Her cool-headed humor had faltered a bit as she tried to push the sound of his sarcasm and mocking out of her mind. She realized he probably didn't mean it the way she naturally took it, but Setsuna was sensitive to acrimony and if she began to feel self-conscious her natural reaction might be to become defense.
"It'll be fun, trust me." She said, getting a bit of her previous smile back. Posing mistress was actually a pretty funny way of considering it, but in this situation that was exactly what she was. Getting good and close to Zander, she lightly grabbed the hand he'd previously placed on his hip, replacing it to the same position. "You want to keep your hip hand a little higher, more like where your kidney is. It'll give your shoulder a sharper, more precise angle and make it look less slackened."
Holding onto his hips, Setsuna placed the foot on the same side a little behind him, so his body was turned just slightly and his bended elbow was behind him. "Keep your feet perpendicular to each other just like that, and keep that shoulder up so your arm doesn't slacken on its own." She was actually starting to enjoy this. Poses where usually something that came with the abilities when she transformed, she'd forgotten what it was like to learn and practice doing it. Having wanted to be a senshi more than anything when she was little, it was something Setsuna had done quite a bit.
"Now, take your other arm and hold it out like, pointing, so whomever you're addressing can be sure you're talking directly to them. It's a lot like a threat, like pointing a weapon at them." Setsuna bent his wrist slightly, creating a slight arc where his arm went up and his hand went slightly down. Sharp angles created an air of dignity, just like rounded, loose shapes appeared more relaxed. "Finally, just keep your chin and your shoulders up and look serious and focused on your audience and say your line again."
While he was looking ahead, she positioned her hand in front of his diaphragm, not touching it quite yet. As soon as he would be begin, she planned to press down firmly on his body, which would would hopefully cause him to project his voice more. "Make sure when you speak, you say what you want to say with confidence and clarity, you want to show them your conviction to your ideals and your cause, got it?"
"..." Zander eyed her for a moment. His smirk faded as his hands fell at his side.It wasn't like she had shocked him or done something crazy but her seriousness and focus on it all, as well as the level of specific detail, it was beyond what he had even begun to consider was going. She wasn't just kidding around, she was seriously going to teach him the precise way to do it. And this left him without any sort of response. He couldn't just laugh off her sincerity.
"You really.. care about this stuff huh?" He said in a soft tone. He wondered what was behind that complex expression. She was so calm and focused yet somehow this must be something she loved, right? He wasn't sure at all. He wished he had Jameson's powers. Or even his detective brain. All he knew for sure was that this was officially no longer something he scoff about and shrug off. If she got this serious then he would have too as well.
Not for his sake, but for hers. When you cared so deeply about something if the person receiving it didn't at least properly respond then the effect would be extremely negative. As much as he didn't care about chit chat he did care when it came to someone's sincere interests, when it came to their 'dreams.' Oliver shifted and turned from her. He used her instructions for his stance.
"He did it too.." Oliver said with a warm smile. "He always got so excited over things I couldn't comprehend. I always dismissed it but when he looked at me I could tell he was being honest." For a person who lived a lie Oliver couldn't help but feel jealous. Always, always Oliver would feel the intensity of those introductions. Jameson was someone he admired because he represented an ideal beyond his reach. Now this girl had it too. People who had dreams and ideals and chased them were truly amazing.
"The dreamweaver creating a world filled with dreams! Zan.. der.. Winston!" Oli... Zander said firmly. His eyes focused and narrowed. After a moment he slackened up, his expression went from sincere to it's typical cold look. He let out a heavy sigh. "It's still embarrassing.." Zander said rubbing his neck. He glanced to her with a stern expression. "No matter how I do it, it won't look cool unless I do it like you do." He said. "In other words I gotta beleive the words. But I'm definately not some super hero, and I don't create a world filled with dreams. Still, it's not bad.." He said looking away.
"You and him.. when you say it your eyes are clear and somethings on fire inside.. I wonder what that's like.." He said, his thoughts wandered to the sea of questions he still had. Maybe Becoming a person who created a world filled with dreams was what he wanted? He wasn't sure, he couldn't be. But he definitely knew that he wanted to find his dream. Pursuing wholeheartedly a single ambition. If he could do that then he would eventually find the answers he lacked.
He hoped..
Setsuna's smile waned slightly as she looked off into the distance, her eyes wavering slightly as they took in the morning sun. She tried not to frown, but the memories threatened to surrender her true feelings. "It's just...something left over from when I was little, nothing else." She stood slightly away from him now, her eyes still somewhat somber as she forced a smile. "Everyone should experience what its like to have a passion at some point in their life."
Setsuna's arms fell gently to her sides as she backed up to the wall she'd approached him from. "Sometimes you never know who you are until you do." Folding hers arms back behind her, she returned to leaning back against the wall as if she'd never left. She tried not to look at him, instead staring intently at a pebble by her feet. "Your speech was pretty good, I could really feel your conviction for a moment." He obviously wasn't comfortable with his words just yet, but it had been a long time before she found the right words herself. "When you know exactly what you want to say, the words will come to you."
Setsuna remembered well the words of her friends. The symbol of prayers... the symbol of hope...
The symbol of love.
She hadn't known what love really was until she'd met them. She hadn't known what it meant to be a friend to someone else. To stick up for them, to protect and encourage them. To have someone to share your passions with. It was something Setsuna felt she would be eternally grateful for. "Having something you want to do more than anything changes your life forever...I hope you get to experience that someday. I wouldn't be here if I hadn't."
You wouldn't be here if you hadn't killed your friend.
Setsuna frowned. That thought had been too quick for her and slipped by into her expression without warning. Her expression went slightly cold as she pushed it out of her mind.
Zander eyed her in silence for a moment in silence as he sat. The sun reached their height now and the orange glow flooded over their feet as if it were rising waters. His lavender eyes locked onto her for a long silence as he absorbed what she had said to him with great interest. Part of him hurt at the sound of her words. He raised his hand to his chest as he closed his eyes and looked away. "It's interesting.. It's not boring at least.." He said in a low voice.
"That complex expression.. I mean." He said opening his eyes and looking at her with a frown. He lowered himself to a crouch and took a bite from his bar and began munching on it without hesitation. he reached into the back with his free hand tossing a juice box her way. "I hate mango flavor.. I meant to get apple." He said leaning back and plopping on his but as he turned his head towards the sun.
He took a deep breath and sighed. Whatever her past was he was sure it wasn't as past tense as she would have liked to have believed. He was just as sure that she was in a complex situation just like him and that because of it he was as far away from her as if they had never been introduced. That unapproachable gulf was the same as the one he established to keep people from becoming reliant on him.
For their own good he created a distance between them. For his own good as well. This was why he admired honest people who just said and did what they felt like saying and doing. "It's not like I'm going to ask what you're thinking about, because it seems like a bothersome and complex thing.. But I did want to say thank you." Zander said plugging the straw into his drink. "What you said... I hope you're right. About me finding a passion and all that. He said before taking a sip.
"Nice excuse," She said, smiling as she caught the drink one-handed, "thanks." He had a strange way of not being honest with anything he said, but she found herself quickly catching on to his mannerisms. Still, given what had just transpired, it didn't seem like he was all that content with the person he was. She knew what that was like, Setsuna had taken a long time to find the person she had wanted to be. Even if she had lost it.
Setsuna made an interesting noise that sounded like a half-scoff, half-laugh as he spoke up again. It seemed like he had a talent for reading people, even when her expression had only faltered for a moment. As nice a person as he seemed though, she wasn't the kind of person who went around blurting her tragic past to anyone who would listen. The notion had genuinely struck her as ridiculous, a feeling that almost surprised her. Had she become that dishonest with herself?
It didn't matter anyway, Setsuna had come here for the purpose of getting away from that life. Still, for someone to honest, it was sweet of him to compliment her silly childhood. She thanked goodness she hadn't been drinking when he'd said that, taking a careful sip from the crinkled plastic straw. Her teeth nibbled on the tip of it out of instinct as she watched him stare out into the distance. It seemed like after all that headway, they still hadn't really gotten anywhere. That implied a goal though, what did she want from him?
And did he want whatever it was from her too?
"You're welcome, I hope you find it soon." Setsuna joined him in watching the sun. "I wouldn't ruin the progress we've made by suddenly opening up. I don't have any problems." She took another long sip, slumping down to her butt while balancing the juice box on her knee. "Not in Hyakuji."
