"Bah, don't take too long, your waffle-dogs'll get cold!" Benny called out over his shoulder as he jogged back towards the mall itself, though it was more to get a last, fleeting glance at the Tuscan before he went inside and lost sight of it than out of any actual concern for their food. Damn, that thing is gorgeous! |

"I wish I knew myself." Shun couldn't help but respond, obviously still shaken up about the whole ordeal. The fact that Reiji's ID stated that he was in fact, Reiji rather than a relative added a lot more to his own confusion but at the same time allowed for him to put the pieces together, albeit slowly. He got that he was no longer in his proper time, the buildings, the people...and Reiji himself proved that much. "All I can say is I was chasing some weird Ghost Girl and lost control of my car...and well, here I am meow." |

"Ghost Girl," Reiji said to himself, rubbing his chin. "Original Invader S07P. Indeed, that sounds about right. To think she had the power to push things through time, though..." He was mostly talking to himself now, running through a few possible scenarios in his mind. Even in this time, S07P had not been defeated. There were still many Original Invaders in existence, and if they ran up against Ghost Girl it would be useful to know this ability of hers. Patting Shun on the back, he gestured towards the mall where Benny had trotted into. "Well, since he did let you off with a warning and all, we shouldn't keep that man waiting. We can talk more after lunch. There are still some things you should know if you really are stuck here. That said..." He reached up and pulled off his sunglasses, smiling. "It's good to see you again, Ukiya. Even if you are younger than I remember." "Waffle... hot dogs," Reiji said aloud in confusion as he stared at the odd food court stall. "This city never fails to surprise and inspire, does it?" |

"And it's good seeing you again Reiji, kinda thought you...well, bit the dust after I stabbed your giant robot and you flew into that large void...thing." Shun replied sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head. There were a lot of things that were still confusing him. Flung a couple of decade's into the future, AEGIS had lost power, Reiji was old and apparently even now Invaders still existed. It made him curious just how much they actually did...well, back then. Regardless he followed Reiji into the mall, albeit reluctantly, questions he had would have to be answered later it seemed...besides, he was rather hungry. Though not for long apparently. No sooner than he had entered the mall, Reiji would likely lose track of Shun...because he immediately began running around, inspecting every little stall, every little shop...everything looked so new and different...so advanced, it looked just like the worlds depicted in his tokusatsu shows! Of course, his exploration would be cut short as he tried to go up an escalator, one that was meant to go down, and ended up fighting against the flow. "WHY ARE THESE STAIRS SO HARD TO CLIMB!?" he yelled, frustrated at his inability to get anywhere. |

"Hey, don't be knockin' the waffledog. Might not sound like much, but they're good. Damn good!" Benny announced, crossing his arms over his chest and beaming with pride. That lasted all of a few seconds, about as long as it took for him to realise that they had somehow misplaced Shun. He was about to ask Reiji just where exactly he'd gotten off to when a certain young man's voice echoed up from the escalators, instantly recognisable in its frustration. "...are you sure that kid doesn't live under a rock or something? Bah, screw it. You go and help him, I'll get the waffledogs and a table." |

Reiji once more had to remove his sunglasses, though this time it was to massage the bridge of his nose between his thumb and forefinger in frustration. Right. 1970... wait, no, that doesn't make sense. I'd used escalators before. Which means... With a heavy sigh Reiji walked over to the escalator's top and waited for Shun to get nearby, then grabbed his arm firmly and yanked him the remaining distance to the floor level. ...he's just an idiot. Reiji had forgotten about Shun's rather illogical thought processes. In the 13 years since the Shun Ukiya he'd known had been killed in action, his memories had faded to only the major ones, usually dealing with moments when Shun took a brave lead and acted gallantly to protect everyone. It conveniently filtered out all the other moments where Shun was... well, to be fair, a normal kid. "You've never seen an escalator before, or you just thought that if it was there it was meant to be walked up?" Reiji asked somewhat rhetorically as he helped pull Shun back up to his feet and walk over to the table where Benny had arranged them some rather interesting-looking foodstuffs. It was a little odd eating lunch with a security guard in uniform, but the guy seemed to be all right. So with that in mind, formalities first. "Mind if I pay for our share?" Reiji offered as he sat on the edge of his chair and slid under the table, a careful maneuver he'd learned from years of practice from his prosthetic. Now he was face-to-face with this so-called "waffle hot dog," the name of which didn't fail to be truthful. It was literally as if someone had decided it was a good idea to replace the familiar bun of a hot-dog with a golden brown waffle instead. Perhaps more confusing was whether he'd want maple syrup or ketchup and mustard on the thing. Considering the components, Reiji wasn't positive either one would taste particularly good. For the moment, he'd wait to see how Shun reacted. The boy would probably just eat it regardless of how it looked, so his reaction should be a good gauge as to how edible the odd mix was. |

"Oh, what?" it took Shun a moment to realize he was attempting to go up an escalator, well, at the very least Reiji had the decency to pull him out of that mess, and even though the tone was different, it was nice to know Reiji still had that rather colorful tongue of his, to which Shun merely shrugged, Shun was used to it and at the very least Reiji didn't use that word he loved so much. "Well, think about it, you know I'm a moron and easily excited. I am displaced three or so decades, what do you -think- I'm going to do in a new place full of things I haven't seen before." Shun whispered to Reiji, for once actually well...giving a well thought out answer. Either way, it was time to chow... On a hotdog that had been coated in what appeared to be a waffle. He gave the strange new food a quick glance, before merely grabbing it and taking a nice big bite out of it. He was never one to turn down food, no matter how strange looking and different... "Wow, s'not so bad." |

"Not so bad? You're tasting Swedish ingenuity at its best, son!" came the half-smothered retort from Benny, who seemed to be having some kind of wrestling match between his jaw and the overly-crispy waffledog in his hands. The maple syrup and chilli sauce helped to soften it somewhat, but an overcooked waffle is nothing to sneeze at. Either the waffledog would realise its resistance was futile and it would be assimilated... or he'd break his jaw on a pastry snack. Either way, it was on. Edited by SgtXDNX, Apr 4 2010, 10:54 AM.

"Well, think about it, you know I'm a moron and easily excited. I am displaced three or so decades, what do you -think- I'm going to do in a new place full of things I haven't seen before," said Shun showing a rather surprising amount of reasoning. If he was willing to go so far as to insult himself to make a point, there was nothing Reiji could say to retort. In terms of food, both Shun and the guard whose name he hadn't gotten yet seemed to approve. He had no choice but to dig in if both of them had. Trying to hide his apprehension behind the dark sunglasses, he raised the waffle-wrapped hot dog to his mouth and bit down, taking about a fourth of it at once and placing the rest onto his plate. The initial taste wasn't bad, but a few seconds of chewing later he had to clench his fist. Maple syrup...and...chili. What... a ridiculous... Under normal circumstances, he would have left the rest on the plate and waited out the meal. However, one thing had him continuing to chomp away at it, no matter how disagreeable the grotesquely common taste was--Shun Ukiya being right next to him eating happily. The streak of pride where he never wanted to lose to Ukiya was still present even now, so seeing the boy eat away like that made him want to do the same. Even if it would make him sick later, he could at least say he hadn't lost. "I'm sorry," Reiji said after getting about halfway finished and swallowing hard. "I hadn't caught your name. You are?" he asked Benny. |

Meanwhile Shun just continued to eat in peace, not much for him to say since Reiji didn't retort. Foodtime was sacred for him so he just munched away, and finished his waffledog rather quickly. It was definitely better than he initially thought it was, so in typical Shun nature he asked a rather simple question. "Can I get another?" |

"Me? I'm Benny the Cop, master of law enforcement in this here mall! Nobody wanna mess with Benny the Cop, I'll tell you that much. What about you and the kid, what's the story there? You don't seem like you're from around these parts." Benny mused, chewing on his own second waffledog inbetween sentences. This one had a much more subdued topping of honey barbeque sauce, but that didn't stop him from taking his time. A waffledog was something to be savoured, not hastily scoffed down! Besides, conversation over a meal was always much more filling anyway. |

"Can I get another?" Reiji just about choked on his food at the thought of having to go another round. The taste of the first one was already disagreeing with him, so having to scarf down a second seemed ridiculous. He'd have to head that one off with an excuse instead. "Me? I'm Benny the Cop, master of law enforcement in this here mall! Nobody wanna mess with Benny the Cop, I'll tell you that much. What about you and the kid, what's the story there? You don't seem like you're from around these parts," Benny replied after apparently winning his battle with the first waffledog, conveniently giving Reiji the out he needed. "Ah, we're from Tokyo. We got separated on the way, but I'm glad we met up again. Right, Ukiya?" It was partially true--they were both indeed coming from Tokyo, and they'd both been separated. It wasn't a huge lie as far as lies went, it just didn't tell the whole truth. The whole truth would've been crazy. "I'm Reiji Kageyama, and this is Shun Ukiya. Thanks for the meal, and for not treating him too harshly." Reiji said the last part while ruffling Shun's hair, treating him like the kid he was. It was almost funny, being able to do that 30 years after the fact. He might even enjoy having the kid around, if his country-kid upbringing didn't annoy the bejeezus out of him first. |

"Yeah, I got transferred to the school here thanks to a kendo scholarship while Uncle Reiji is here due to work related reasons. Either way,one thing led to another..." Shun continued Reiji's explanation sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head. As much as Shun didn't like to lie, it was really hard to up and say "I'm from the past", so he at least decided to use a lie that he had used before...he just hoped it would work. To be honest, it was....creepy to be treated like a kid by Reiji, after all it was only yesterday the two of them were in the same grade level and all. So, Shun did his best to hide that feeling through eating...it was time for dog number two! |

"Harshly? You kiddin'? Dealing with some kid that decided to take a joyride ain't my job! After all, who doesn't feel like jumping into their car and just going as fast as they can, just because they can?" For all of the boasting and yelling that he did, it was pretty obvious that Benny just didn't have the heart (or effort points) to tear Shun a new one for something he did himself on a regular basis. Besides, any man that could put down waffledogs that quickly and then ask for more was someone he could respect. "You're all right, kid. Just keep outta trouble in my mall, got it? Otherwise, not even all the waffledogs in the world are gonna save you." |

Reiji let out a sigh. Ukiya had played right along with his ruse, showing that he could master the situation at the oddest times. Still, this Benny person seemed like a rather stand-up individual, even if he was rather... laid-back for an officer of the law. "Ah, here, Mr. Benny. If you ever need something, I believe I owe you one," he said, reaching into his pocket and procuring a business card which he nonchalantly held out to Benny. On it was his name, contact information, and a small "AEGIS Network" logo. Nothing fancy, and it didn't have any sort of job title on it. "I'll try to make sure we don't cause too much of a ruckous around here," he said, then chuckled. "Though, I guess I can't make any guarantees. Ruckous seems to follow us no matter where we are. Right, Ukiya?" |
