Smoke was interesting, wasn't it? It curled independent of itself, dancing and dissipating. Such a short life... But so calm, so free.

How stupid was he, sitting there thinking about the life of the remains of the cigarette that was no doubt slowly rotting him from the inside out? Sympathy for the devil or something like that. Yuu snorted, puffing out an extra thick curl of smoke as he tossed his now snuffed cigarette away, leaning back against his new perch -- another bench -- his long limbs taking up the majority of the seat.

This is what loneliness did to you, it made you crazy. It made you mad. It made you think that thinking about smoke was a normal train of thought.

He snorted again.

What an idiot he was. But he did suppose that this place was much more pleasant than the last world he visited. Albeit very... depressing of a world. Everyone here seemed to be sad. Defeated. Beaten down.

Was it from their worlds being consumed? Was it from everything they knew and loved being taken from them? Yuu scoffed softly and closed his eyes, tilting his head back over the back of the bench, distancing himself from the depressing air around him.

You had to have something important to you to be sad when it was taken away.

More than a Ghost on a Shipwreck
This was perhaps the first time that Evan had really just walked around since he had gotten into the mess of being in this world. There was nothing that he wanted to see, there was no one that he wanted to meet except for Jameson, but it appeared that he was nowhere to be found. It was times like this when Evan’s greatest fear of being alone began to flare up, and he didn’t really know what to do about it. There were things that helped. Usually finding Jameson was a good one; however, that wasn’t possible. Pacing was then the next best thing that he could do.

Arcadia had been a bust. He didn’t like how it had been taken over, but it wasn’t the people who worked there’s fault. He was just not the kind of person who appreciated change, and that was a change in a big way. Uniforms other than just the Arcadia Uniform? That just seemed more like a business then something that Evan did to help himself grow stronger.

The ghost weren’t even that talkative here. There was nothing to do he felt. He wondered aimlessly and tried to help people, but the only reason he ever did that was because he thought it would help him to get home sooner.

It was all rather selfish of him, but then again Evan wasn’t the most unselfish person that had ever lived.

Such a range of emotion drifted from him. It would have been impossible to tell how he felt, but then again there were always people that could.

That was when he smelt the smoke. There was someone next to him taking a long drag on a cigarette. Evan simply made a small fan out of a few bits of paper and gave a quick but long sweep in the man’s general direction. The wind caused the ember of the cig to glow brightly and it pushed the cloud of smoke out of the area.

Who’s ruder? Me or him?

As the smell of smoke wafted over his face suddenly, Yuu's eyes opened and shifted to his side. Where did this kid get off... He seemed to even be pouting, and that was rather pathetic. Now, of course, 'pout' wasn't an emotion, but it was a mix of emotions that the boy could identify. And this was definitely a pout.

Someone didn't like not getting his way and was lost when pushed out of his comfort zone.

And they most certainly weren't the pure soul he was looking for.

Bluntly and stubbornly, Yuu lit up another cigarette, inhaled deeply, and blew a mouthful of smoke toward the boy's face. All the while his face was calm, looking tired and worn like normally. He didn't seem to be angry, but rather... proving a point.

Indeed, who was more rude?

Evan scolded a great deal when this person blew smoke into his face. It wasn’t cool, and Evan was sort of getting pissed off about it. He should have been, since in a way he was the one that started this war of smoke. Would that make it a hot or cold war? He wasn’t sure, but all he knew was that he didn’t like this guy…or did he? He was so confused at the moment that he didn’t really know what to think about anything.

And so is my life at this point. I don’t like anything, but I can’t really decide if I don’t like anything.

“You know smoking can kill you right? Has anyone ever told you that?” Evan was just being smart now. Why is it then when someone is smoking and being sort of an ass about it the next line is always how smoking is bad for them. It was a terrible thing to say to people, not to mention that they had usually always heard about it before.

“It’s uncalled for the way that I’m speaking to you.” Evan just sort of looked at the person for a few minutes. There is no doubt about it, this person was very strange to Evan. “You know I’ve never tried a cigarette before. Do you mind if I try one?”

Yuu stared at the boy, feeling the strange waves of emotions swaying up and down within him. Never in his life had the blonde boy ever felt someone's emotions flip flop so quickly from side to side. He was up and down, forward and back, upside down and inside out... He was making Yuu's head hurt.

The boy leaned back, closed his eyes, and tried to relax as the annoying brat beside him spoke. His shoulders sagged in a shrug, and he spoke around his cigarette.

"Breathing can kill you. Has anyone told you that?" The boy was already rubbing Yuu wrong, and that lead to not calming the other boy down... but to possibly making it worse. If he kept it up, that was.

Then of course again the strange kid flip flopped again as asked for a cigarette...

...What a basket case.

But Yuu hadn't ever been one that was opposed to giving someone else the infectious touch of nicotine, so he silently offered the boy cigarette and his lighter, not even looking at him now, smoke curling from his nostrils. It'd be amusing, at least, when the boy took his first puff... It always burnt like a bitch.

Evan took the cig and lighter and just looked at them for a moment. He had never had a cigarette, but he always saw people choke after they smoked for their first time. He didn’t want that to happen to him, for that would just make him angry. He put the cigarette to his mouth and then lit it slowly. The lighter illuminated his face a little bit. It was a lot grimier in the light than it was in the normal light. There was no doubt that he was a mess.

He took a deep drag and held it in for a moment. Nothing really happened to him. He didn’t cough; he didn’t start grabbing at his through. It didn’t really burn either. There was no doubt though, he didn’t like it. He blew the smoke out. He felt like he was about to cough, and tired of trying to be stronger than he really was he coughed and a little extra smoke came out. He decided that he would at least finish it. It would be rude not to and just put it out. Cigs were expensive.

“Thank you. I’m sorry for treating you poorly earlier. I’ll say upfront that I’m not a very nice person. Do you mind if I sit next to you?” Evan didn’t really wait for a reply; he just did it. Then he looked at the man. “I’m Evan. I’m sorry if I’m coming of a little strong, its just when I get anxious I need company and. See I’m doing it right now. I should probably just leave.”

He stood up, but he didn’t move. This time he did wait. He wanted the man to say it was all right for him to stay. Say that it was okay for him to jut sit and talk. Evan wanted that more than anything, for he had no one to tell him that.

Yuu waited.

And waited.

And waited.

What, no coughing? No sputter? No burning lungs? How disappointing. He simply snorted a reply, smoke curling from his nostrils in agitatedly sharp angles... almost as if his smoke were relating to his mood. And how annoying was that? He had just calmed down, just found a peaceful place in this morbid town and here came this lovely storm cloud of confused emotions for him to sort through...

Evan wouldn't get the words he desired from this blonde.

Yuu stared at him wordlessly as the boy bluntly sat down...and then stood, and then just stood there like a goober staring at him as if he were going to comfort him somehow. What a goddamn idiot.

Inhaling deeply on his cigarette, he watched the boy, waiting... And slowly, slowly -- out of pity -- he began draining the boy's stress away. He'd start growing calm, just feeling as if something clicked inside him and everything was okay. Natural as ever.

Evan started to feel a little calmer as he was around the man. It was like someone just flipped a switch and he magically changed how he was feeling. Well, it was more gradual than that; it was like the stress was just draining from him. It was such a nice feeling. He had been pulled so tight that he didn’t know if his emotional core could take it anymore. Was it the cigarette? Maybe it was, but he didn’t think so. If anything the cigarette just made him angry.

It must have been him. Evan had been around strange things long enough to know that people had some strange abilities, and so maybe this kid had some strange abilities.

“I don’t know what you did, but thank you,” he said calmly. He sat down. This time he wasn’t so worried about it. He knew that on the sense meter he had been making none. He was so wrapped up in everything, and now Evan felt like he could talk honestly. The last time he had done that was at the Arcadia headquarters and that just got him scolded.

“You still haven’t given me your name. You don’t have to if you don’t want to, but it would be nice if you said something. It would make me feel like I was bothering you less. But then again me bothering you is written all over your face.”

Evan probably should have left, but it was the first time that he didn’t want to just leave. He wouldn’t mind sitting here, even if the man didn’t want him there, he planned to sit there. Annoying or not, at least he wasn’t being completely indecisive.

"I didn't do anything," he lied, but something inside Evan made him want to believe. He seemed trustworthy, didn't he?

Past that, Yuu just stared. He didn't like the boy, he didn't like how emotionally back and forth he was, he didn't like a lot of things about him. And he ESPECIALLY didn't like the damned kid sitting and standing every three seconds.

"Make up your mind," he grunted, his lips pursing and his fingers strumming his thigh in a frustrated gesture. Silently, Yuu weighed the pros and cons of making the boy so emotionally exhausted that he'd just... fall asleep right there. Maybe that'd be better? A little tranquilizer...

..an extra strong thrum of his fingers over his thigh ran that idea from his head though. He didn't want to us his powers in the wrong way. He had calmed the boy down, and that was the best he could do.

Slowly breathing in and holding it, Yuu closed his eyes. "You'd be less bothersome if you sat still."

Evan scoffed a little bit when he was told to sit still. What was he, eight? No one talked to him like that. This guy obviously thought that he was someone a lot better than who he really was. Well, then gain he didn’t really know much about the guy, so he couldn’t tell what kind of person he was. There was no doubt that he liked cigarettes, or at least it seemed like it to Evan.

“Perhaps I would be less bothersome if I just sat still. But then again I’m not the kind of person that just sits still so I don’t know.” Evan then proceeded to sit still. He might as well try it; at least it would make this person happy, maybe enough to really talk to him. Evan just sat, and there was no doubt that it was boring to just sit. He took a drag on a cigarette.

“So what are you doing here? I heard that things were starting to come to a head. You didn’t want to go and help out with the great fight?”

Evan probably shouldn’t have been that curious, but then again, that had never stopped him before.
