The answer was no, it didn't.

This place actually felt entirely wrong to Yuu. The emotions he sensed bubbling around him were... tainted, somehow. Disgusting. His eyes focused on some far off point that not even he could identify, his brows knitted in confusion. His hand brought his cigarette to his lips, inhaling deeply. Much better.

Obviously, this world was useless. It felt...used up, dried up. Like a crumpled husk of something. Tossed away.

'Disgusting.' He'd be leaving... just as soon as he finished this cigarette.

Chizu had a love-hate relationship with cities. They were crowded, polluted, and generally held too many of the wrong type of people. She had grown up in one of the biggest cities in the world. She would know. But they were familiar. There was darkness in them, but it was a darkness she was familiar with, and she often came to them when the darkness everywhere else became too unfamiliar.

Better the evil you know than the one you don't, after all.

She walked down the street with her hands in her pockets. Aurora was an interesting city. She thought they were in America--people spoke English and once or twice, she saw a flag. It wasn't the America from her world, though. Aurora wasn't a city name she was familiar with. Granted, she had only been to her America twice, but still. She thought she would know.

She looked around, her eyes focusing on people for a moment. Beggar on the street holding up a cardboard sign and a cup. Business woman crossing the street and talking on her cellphone. Blond dude smoking in the corner and looking in the distance. Background noise. Familiar noise. And in a sense, safe. Chizu could handle the city.

She ran a hand through her white hair, newly cut short after the fight with Kinclex. If Yuu was sensing her emotions, he might feel frustration in the background, low-key, hiding underneath everything else. On the layer on top of that, restlessness. The need to walk, to talk, to do something as long as it wasn't sitting still. And on top of that? Detachment, maybe. Indifference. A sense of familiarity with the city, maybe a little uncertainty. Grief, if it was there at all, would be buried so deep it almost wouldn't register.

'That's...interesting.'

Yuu's tired eyes still stared at the adjacent wall, the smoke from his last inhale rolling from his nostrils like a tired dragon. Amongst the crowd of half-dead feeling emotions there was something new, some spark of life. And oh... how troubled that life felt.

'Restless, mostly. Frustrated... uncertainty? Hmmm...'
The man pulled his cigarette from his lips and pushed his glasses up on the bridge of his nose, focusing more on that one bright spark. 'So stressed...'

But he could fix that, couldn't he?

It'd feel as if something cool and refreshing was washing over the girl's body, starting at the top of her head and slowly trickling down her spine, washing the whole way to the balls of her feet and the tips of her toes. It'd feel... Amazing. Like waking up from the best nap, like taking the longest, most relaxing shower, like laying under a ceiling fan in the heat of summer.

Perfect.

Hopefully, the gradual working of the powers wouldn't make the girl uncomfortable, but it was always a possibility.

Yuu's eyes slipped closed and he drew his cigarette to his lips again and inhaled.

Chizu paused in the middle of the street the moment she felt the tension start to leave her back and shoulders. She knew that the sudden relaxation should have made her tense, but it was hard to be tense when it felt like every bit of tension the recent war against the Heartless had left on her seemed to melt away slowly. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath as she calmed. She tried her best not to giggle, and to her credit, she didn't.

The restlessness was replaced by a wave of giddiness and euphoria, followed by puzzlement. Chizu had been in Hyakuji long enough to know when someone was messing with her mind. She scanned the street again, giving some people more than a cursory glance this time. The businesswoman was gone. Most people continued to walk. The beggar was talking to someone. Only the blond smoker was still doing what he used to do, staring straight ahead.

Staring straight ahead in the same way someone would do when they were using their powers and didn't want to be obvious about it. Realization, then. Followed by a sharp twinge of irritation. The irritation immediately calmed down, though. Yuu might get the sense that she had held it in check just before the spark could set her temper going. Chizu had a quick temper, and it wasn't exactly cool either.

But the interference wasn't negative or threatening, so she curbed it. She walked over to him as he closed his eyes, standing in front of him. She folded her arms. "I don't like people I don't know messing with my head," she said. "Just so you know."

'Ah...oops.'

It wasn't that much of a bother, though. Even with those twinges of rage -- or what could have turned into rage -- she was still more calm for the most part. More relaxed.

Job well done!

The blonde didn't open his eyes as the girl strode over, he could feel that bubble of irritation approaching him. If he had wanted, he could have forced her to remain calm, to stay in the euphoric state. But... that would have been crossing a line the boy very rarely crossed. A little pleasant -- or unpleasant -- nudge to the emotions didn't hurt anyone... But completely taking away her free will? No, he couldn't do that.

Smoke rolled from the boy's nostrils, dancing around his head and disappearing into the darkening sky as his thin shoulders lifted and fell in a shrug.

"Helping." He offered with a small smirk, opening his right eye and finally seeing the woman he had been trying to relax. He took his cigarette from his lips and snuffed it out on the side of the bench he was sitting on, letting it drop to the ground, discarded. "Not... messing." No, not 'messing', never 'messing'... That sounded like he was fiddling unskillfully.

That just wasn't his style.

Silent now, the boy just peered up at the woman, stretching his long arms over the back of the bench, one leg crossing over the other, balancing his ankle on his knee. He'd seem even more lanky that way, stretched out and almost impossibly long. Thin. Worn out.

Wordlessly, Yuu's powers stretched to the girl again, balancing everything back to the way it had been. The same stress, restlessness, frustration... It'd wind into her body like a screw into a cork.

Deeper.

Deeper.

Cocking his eyebrow, the boy looked at her -- both eyes open now -- as if saying, 'There, better?'

Chizu's fists clenched as the stress came back, glaring at him. She wouldn't dignify that with an answer. If he was an empath, he knew very well what the answer would be. No, it was not better. But the irritation, the sudden impulse to speak up, would be curbed by something else. Pride. Chizu had a lot of it, and it was that pride that stopped her from asking for it back. She lifted one shoulder in a shrug.

"Whatever," she said. Messing, helping, same thing. She looked up at the boy again. He brought back unfortunate memories. It didn't help that he might have been around the same height, same body time...similar abilities...and similar attitude. Except he hadn't done anything to her. Yet.

She clenched her fists. The old Chizu would have reacted, but the Chizu she was now was much more in control. Of herself, of her temper, and of her impulsiveness. "You remind me of someone," she admitted. "And they aren't good memories, so don't play games."

Kaito.

The moment his face entered her mind, Yuu would be able to sense the emotions behind it. Rage. There was a lot of rage there. And grief. He had taken something from her. She would never have it back. But it was old rage and old grief, the kind that remained when someone had moved on, in part. Mostly, there was just weariness. She was tired of being angry, tired of being sad. And she hated the fact that in a way, she understood why he had done it.

And it just made her tired.

She realized she was probably showing him much more than she wanted to, but she couldn't help it. With Chizu, the outside seldom matched the inside. It was always fire on the inside. The outside...well, that was debatable. She had always been good at controlling it.

This poor girl was practically floundering here in front of him, and yet she stood so strong. She was breaking apart inside but for all an outsider knew she was as tough as stone. But Yuu had broken so bluntly into that wall, burrowed within... He was sure this was the kind of girl that never wanted to seem vulnerable.

The glare, the clenching fists, Yuu knew this emotion without having to feel it. But feel he did, the warmth of rage washing over him. It was delicious, a tingly feeling that was a joy to feel... from the outside, at least. He almost felt bad, stressing the girl so -- almost. She could have been fine, she could have been calm and relaxed and balanced her head.

But all that pride...

Yuu hated pride.

"Stop it." The boy mumbled, his eyes closing as the girl clenched her fists again. As the tingling on his muscles turned into a thick flame. Rage was interesting, but far from useful in such volumes. A broken heart was always tender when nudged.

Calm washed over the girl, brushing all the frustration, all the rage from her mind. He didn't toy with the idea of being subtle or sneaky with the action, it was just as much for him as her. Though, as the boy's steel grey eyes gazed into hers, there didn't seem to be anything selfish there. Even less so when he spoke.

"I hate when girls suffer. I hate when ANYONE has such a crushed inside. I can't undo what he did," His eyes narrowed a bit, his glasses having slipped down on his nose. "but let me make it better, just for a little while?"

He hated, hated this. Hated the way some people felt. The way they made him feel by proxy. Being in tune with so many people so often made you realize just how... sad humanity was...

'Someone pure... someone untouched and calm. Someone I could protect from all this... all this shit in the world.'

Crushed.

She bristled visibly at his choice of words, but only for a moment before he forced her to relax. Chizu never liked to admit what was on the inside. She liked to hide it, even to herself. Crushed wasn't the word she would use in any case, even when she was being her most honest. Bruised. Battered. Beaten. But never crushed. No, never crushed. Yuu might get that sense, if he was still focused on Chizu's emotions. It was the core of her character, the fact that the universe could take everything from her, slam her against the wall and drive her to an inch of her life and as long as she still drew breath, she would try and get up again.

It was one of the few things she was proud of.

She resisted for a moment before she allowed herself to relax and get swept away again. She looked up at him. He wasn't Kaito. Kaito would never do anything for anyone else other than himself. That was enough to drive the association out of her mind, at least for a moment. She was still cautious, though. Caution had kept her alive.

She shrugged in response, a rough and not entirely ladylike gesture. "I understand why he did what he did..." she admitted. "And it was a long time ago. But if you wanna talk to happy people, you're in the wrong damn time." There wasn't any heat behind the words, but the patterns of speech had been so ingrained in her that she'd probably talk like that in heaven. She didn't feel the pain now. She supposed she could get addicted to this if she wanted to. The thought was almost frightening.

"...You're from Hyakuji?" she asked, deciding to change the subject.

The churning sea of emotions in front of him went complacent... for a while.

He had to admit, while a calm, pure person was who he was looking for, a nice messy array of emotions was sometimes... sort of pleasant. A wide splay of feelings, something to ride up and down. But all the time? It was a mess.

Leaning foward, Yuu planted his foot back on the floor, drawing a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and a lighter. He placed the cigarette between his lips and let the woman speak, not having all that much to say. He had found that with women it was best to let them talk and simply listen. Cupping his hand around the end of the cigarette, he inhaled as he lit the end, exhaling and letting the smoke roll from his nostrils as he put his neat little pack of cancer sticks and lighter away.

Silently, the boy scooted over a little and gestured to the spot beside him. 'Sit', he was saying.

His deep eyes were lidded as his body very much enjoyed the taste of the cigarette, the way it lit up his whole body. This was his euphoria, or as close as he could get to it at this point. He appraised the woman silently, looking her over again. What could have happened to her? A break up with a boy couldn't make that much deeply rooted grief no matter how much she loved him. Something else had happened.

Yuu wanted to know what it was.

His eyebrow quirked. Hyakuji? He had heard about it, but no, he wasn't from there. Silently still, he shook his head, inhaling deeply. On the exhale, he held the cigarette to her, offering it to her. A rather rare gesture.

Chizu sat. She didn't really have much to say. She wasn't in the habit of wearing her heart on her sleeve. There were things about her that only her closest friends would know about. And of those people, only one was still around. If Yuu wasn't calming her, the thought would have made her sad again, if only for a moment.

She looked up as he offered her his cigarette, silently shaking her head. She understood the gesture though. It helped. "Sorry, don't smoke," she said, leaning her head back for a moment and looking up at the sky. "...But if you wanna go for a drink, I'm game." she added. She didn't smoke. Being an aeromancer, she couldn't stand it. But she had been around enough people that did that it didn't bother her as long as someone else was inhaling it.

She watched as he shook his head when she asked about Hyakuji. "I thought you might be from there. That's where a lot of the kids with powers come from." She shrugged. "Anyway, whatever. Name's Chizu. Chizu Yamamura." She was still calm, or she probably wouldn't have been talking this much. At least not in this subdued tone of voice that made her slightly rough language sound so...wrong. She realized her voice sounded like a girl, which was just odd for her.

But the serenity was a blessing. After everything that had been going on, she needed this for a moment.

The boy didn't let up, making sure to keep her nice and calm. She'd feel the sadness, no doubt, but deftly it was brushed away. It was an interesting feeling, though, as if she were laying on something bubbling, something tingling her flesh. Not unpleasant but... interesting.

Shrugging a little with a nod of his head, Yuu retracted his cigarette and put it to his lips, seeming to just let it rest there between his lips. His wrists rested on his knees and he hunched over, his eyes staring off into the distance again.

A drink? His eyebrow cocked and he nodded slowly. Sounded good, very good. Who didn't enjoy a good burn rolling down ones throat?

This girl was from Hyakuji then... He'd have to look into it again. Somehow he didn't want to leave her alone, didn't want to leave her to continue suffering like that so deep inside. Even if she put up a strong front. Exhaling a mouthful of smoke, he offered her his hand as his eyes lifted to hers again, "Yuu." Were last names really necessary?

That gentle, almost petting gesture, on her emotions kept up, kept her soothed and calm. Which in turn made Yuu more calm. His eyes slipped shut and he let his head bow down, his wrists back on his ankles now, fingers balancing his cigarette between them. His voice, when he spoke again, was soft.

"Do you have powers? Show me." It sounded like a command, but could someone command with such a soft voice?

Yuu. She'd remember the name. Chizu was good with them. She nodded once, reaching up and taking his hand. The feelings of calm that were coursing through her were foreign. She couldn't remember the last time she had been completely at ease. But then again, she had always been cautious. She had always been ready to fight. More so now than ever. She shook his hand once and let go, glancing up at the sky.

She wondered if she would ever master flight. Hovering was still something new to her, moving while doing it seemed like a far off dream. She could glide, she knew that, but gliding and flying were two completely different things. She frowned at the random turn she found her thoughts taking and glanced back down at the street. People passing by, absorbed in themselves. Who knew what they were thinking about and what lives they led? She was used to it, though. She had grown up in Tokyo.

She would have been irritated at Yuu's request, because nobody commanded her but herself, but it didn't even sound like a command. It sounded like someone asking her what her powers were, and she allowed herself to let the sudden irritation go. Yuu might feel it as a pinprick that flared up and suddenly vanished.

She raised her hand and collected the air in it. There was smoke in it from Yuu's cigarette, and he would be able to see it as it twisted around like a miniature whirlwind in her hand. Chizu closed her hand and the wind dispersed. She could feel it rushing through the gaps between her fingers as she opened her hand again. "Control of the wind," she said, in explanation.

Frowned for a moment.

"You can do this, this time," she said, where this meant how Yuu was keeping her emotions in check. "But not all the time." Truth be told, she needed to relax right now. But that didn't mean she would let him do it all the time. Her emotions, positive and negative, were a part of who she was. They were part of her character, and she wouldn't allow him to make a habit of taking that from her.

They were hers. There were very few things she could say that about.

Yuu's thumb gently ran over Chizu's knuckles as she took the man's hand, caressing her flesh for one quick and fleeting moment, but it'd be pleasant all the same. More than likely, at least. The boy considered himself something of a gentleman, if only because he simply loved female emotions. When they were sad, they were so so sad...

...And when they were happy? Ah, they were beautiful!

He was so sure he could go his whole life with a woman that would otherwise be considered hideous to outsiders if her emotions were so intense. So beautiful. So relaxing. He wanted to rest so so badly, to ease those aching numbers in his back. To forget. To move on completely.

'Irritation.'

A stroke, and then calm.

Just in time to see the curious act of the girl controlling his smoke. In an almost playful manner, the blonde puffed two almost perfectly circular balls of smoke into the whirlwind, watching them twist and twirl. Completely controlled by her. Something twinged inside him, and if Chizu could sense emotions as he did? She might feel his twist of grief, his own twist of sadness.

"Interesting," The boy mumbled, in his same soft, disinterested voice. Could it be he was humoring her and didn't care? Or could it simply be that was the way he sounded? Either way, Chizu's words didn't fall on deaf ears. Yuu's head dipped in the tiniest of nods as he stared off into the distance again, his cigarette perched limply between his lips.

"Sometimes," He murred, his voice more of a soft rumble than speech, "It's nice to give in an relax. I can be a nice vacation spot, if that makes you feel better. Everyone needs a vacation sometimes." And then something curious happened.

Yuu smiled.

She didn't miss the smile. And somehow, she knew that Yuu wasn't the kind of person who gave them often. It meant something. She just wasn't sure what at this point. She watched as the wind passed through the gaps in her fingers and dispersed, rejoining whatever air current she had pulled it from. Like this, she could almost see it. She could feel it--maybe even in a way that was stronger than sight.

She looked up at him and met his eyes. She held them for a moment before looking away. Maybe it was because she wasn't sure she didn't want to read into the meaning. She wouldn't acknowledge the way her face heated up slightly either. It wasn't exactly visible, and the embarrassment, if it was there at all, would disappear after a moment. "Heh," she said as she looked away. "We'll see."

But she gave him a small smile in reply. It wasn't much. When she was calm like this, she wasn't in the habit of smiling either. But it was still a smile.

Yuu's head tilted a little as the girl turned her gaze away, and he noticed the blush in her cheeks. A quick check showed the feeling was embarrassment instead of arousal, which was good. He didn't want to give her the wrong idea.

But... Girl were so much more pleasant when they were happy, when they felt like the most important thing in the world. Sadly, Yuu wasn't new to breaking hearts. Unintentionally, at least!

Slowly, bit by bit Yuu's powers eased away, trying to see if the girl could be calm on her own or if it was completely and utterly his powers that were holding her still and complacent. Maybe he could genuinely make the feeling last longer for her.

That was the only downside to his powers. They were fleeting.

With a small shifting of his weight, he struggled to gather words. Yuu was a man of few words, he thought that they did nothing but make trouble, normally making whomever you were speaking to more angry than happy. His lips pursed for a moment, and as his original words failed him, he decided to fall back into something more...comfortable. Something easier to kick off of.

"Tell me about yourself," Again, the words sounded like a command, but his voice and those grey bombarder's eyes held nothing but the the calmest, sweetest intentions.
