Yumi was walking through the streets of Traverse Town once more, dejected. All her thoughts were with Nickle. That elusive man, half stranger, half friend, seemed to have insinuated himself into her mind, until she could think of almost nothing else. With the thoughts came a jumble of emotions. But the foremost one was frustration. The last time Yumi had seen him, Nickle had disappeared into a crowd of people after breaking up a cat-fight on stage. She had waited and waited as the revellers dispersed, certain that he would come back to join her in the little alcove they had occupied by the stage. After all, he had left in such a hurry, she had been sure he would return to finish their conversation. But as the crowds thinned, Yumi began to worry that he had missed her. Moving out from her hiding place of sorts, the girl conducted a frantic search of the few remaining stragglers, but it became more and more obvious that Nickle was no longer among them. Sorely disappointed that he had left without so much as a wave goodbye, Yumi had made her dispirited way home. Since then, the days had passed slowly, seemingly purposeless and full of depression. Yumi just had not been able to understand it. She and Nickle had been having such a nice conversation. It seemed like they were finally patching up the misunderstandings created at their first meeting. She herself had just resolved to swallow her pride in order to get to know the man better and truly befriend him. Why would he just leave? Yumi could not account for it at all. Finally, the girl had taken to wandering the all-too-familiar streets of Traverse Town once more, hoping to walk off her frustration. If she were entirely honest with herself, she would admit that it was also in the vain hope of simply ‘bumping into’ Nickle on the street. But the truth was she didn’t have the first idea of where she could hope to find the elusive man. She had no idea where he made his home, or how he spent his days. Did he have a job? Yumi didn’t know. He seemed to just pop up out of nowhere, then disappear again without warning. Maybe that was his style. If that was the case, Yumi wasn’t so sure she wanted a friend like that. But almost in spite of herself, she continued pacing the familiar paths, her footsteps beating a tattoo of frustration against the ground. These streets… she had passed through them so often now in the months since she had first been plunged into this world. She knew just about every nook and cranny that they enclosed, each secret that they hid from prying eyes. But her favourite part of the town was not one of these. Rather, it was located in plain sight, albeit in a less frequented area. Inexplicably, almost of their own free will, Yumi found her feet taking her to this very place. As the passers-by grew fewer and the architecture became more baroque in style, the girl looked up from her thoughts and was surprised to find where her feet had taken her – although not unpleasantly so. The narrow street she was on widened suddenly into an open square, and looming up before her in the centre was a glorious water feature. Drinking in the smooth curves and unusual edges of the fountain, and absorbed by the harmonious tinkling of the water as it fell to its basin, Yumi found the frustration seeping out of her pores. It was impossible to be anything but serene in the presence of such beauty. Walking closer to the centrepiece of the square, the girl took a seat on the ledge of the fountain and leaned back again the middle, making herself comfortable. Closing her eyes, she realised that she would soon be soaked through from the splashing of the water, but she didn’t mind. Tranquillity filled her being now, and she was content to simply sit, wiling away the afternoon in this glorious aura of peace. |

Her frustration couldn't be ignored and it couldn't simply be brushed off. Nickle genuinly would not have left someone he'd been conversing with, stand alone after promising he'd return. However, there had been certain circumstances that had caused him to leave the area and rather quickly at that. He had overheard some people in the crowd talking about a Heartless attack in the EXE world. Nickle had had to make a tought call. He didn't want to just rush off and leave Yumi alone, but the EXE world was something special to him. A world revolving around machines and electricity. He would apologise to her if he met up with her again. He sighed, looking up and reaching up with his hand towards the stars. He could almost touch them from up here. The air was tranquil and the sky was without clouds. Nickle moved his legs back and forth, causing his Mu Skyboard to ride the air currents. No matter what time it was, Traverse Town always seemed to be like this, under a blanket of stars. Nickle sighed again, he couldn't stop mulling over the events that had been going on. The Heartless were relentless and even with everyone pitching in and Arcadia co-ordinating their attacks, they just never seemed to stop. Nickle had been seeing more and more people summoning keyblades and they were becoming much more effective at dispelling the Heartless waves, but then there was always some Heartless that was bigger or more powerful than the last. Nickle's brow creased. Then there was Kinclex and Organisation XIII. That lot had been a coin toss right from the beginning, never letting anyone know what they were really up to o to what ends. "Man, I hate having to go over all this myself." Nickle usually didn't speak to himself, but as of late he'd grown accustomed to his own company. He moved his legs again and angled the skyboard to descend towards a small square below him. Celestial had always been there for him to relieve his stress. Be it talking or just holding in his arms. Then there was Sugar. PLaying games with her just made him forget the worries of his adult life. As Nickle descended he saw someone sitting by the fountain. His eyes widened as he recognised the hazel hair. Mentally there was only one thing going through his mind. Ooooooooooooh dear... Nickle gently redirected himself towards one of the alleys nearby before Yumi noticed him descending. As he lowered himself down, he came hovering through and out of the alley, about half a meter above the ground on the skyboard. He slowly came around the fountain behind Yumi and just said the most neutral thing that came to his mind. "Hey there Yumi-san." |

It was like waking from a dream. But not the good, natural kind of waking. The kind where an annoying voice calls you, as if from a great distance... and the voice pulls you towards it, against your will, until suddenly: you're awake. And there's no going back to the dream-state. The last thing Yumi had expected when she lay back for her tranquil doze was to be awoken in such a manner. She knew no-one in this district - mostly because it was largely abandoned. It was a good day when one human presence was felt by this fountain, but two at once? It was nearly unheard of. So to hear another voice in this place... it was so unusual, that the girl couldn't even understand what she had heard at first. She sat up rubbing her eyes, trying to make out what had woken her. The shock at what she saw set her off-balance, making her tumble backwards into the bowl of the fountain. Like she hadn't been wet enough already. But the cold water did her good, finally restoring her wits to full consciousness. A sound mind, however, did little to dispel her disbelief. How was it possible? The odds were stacked so highly against this likelihood that she had never even considered it as a vague possibility. Yet here he was. Standing before her. In the flesh. Just as she remembered him. Nickle. She experienced a moment of panic, wondering fleetingly if he could read minds like Jameson, and had been drawn to this place by her thoughts of him. She quickly dismissed this notion as ludicrous, however, reminding herself that she already knew his power, and it was electricity. With this thought, memories came flooding back in force - including the recollection of their last meeting. Or more precisely, their last parting. It had not been a good one. Nickle would have some serious explaining to do if he wanted to make up for offending her so deeply. Yumi felt like she was finally in the right with this one, too. She had been prepared to humble herself before, but now he had slighted her. He owed her an apology, but more, he owed her an explanation. "You better start talking, and talk fast, mister." Her tone was acidic, yet far milder than it would ordinarily have been in such a situation - fortunately for Nickle, it was still laced with the undertones of serenity that she had collected during her nap. If not for that, things might have been much worse. "You've got some nerve, showing up here and waking me from my sleep, as if it's the most natural thing in the world... and after the way you just abandoned me before!" Yumi wanted to scowl, but again, the soothing trickle of water behind her seemed to stay her face muscles. Instead, the best she could manage was a look of utter neutrality. Let him make of that what he would. Either way, she was not a happy camper. Although a small part of her couldn't help but thinking what a wonderful coincidence it was that she had gone out looking for him, and instead he had stumbled right into her path. Life was odd like that sometimes. |

Now this was a rather awkward situation. Nickle was literally being torn apart inside. On the one hand, there was Yumi falling into the fountain and this lead to several fingers of reactions. Nickle didn't know whether to worry, laugh or wait patiently making small talk while Yumi extracted herself from the fountains trickles. However, on the the other hand, Nickle was pretty much deep in waste matter at the moment. From what he had gathered about Yumi in the past was that she was a woman who had certain rules and regulations that had to be adheared to in her mind, although a lot of it was grounded on natural, good old fashion, common sense. She had a certain tenacity about her and lord help anyone who ever actually betrayed her. Nickle hadn't exactly betrayed her in the past but he couldn't hide the fact that he'd left her like a stick in the mud, not once, but twice. He jumped off the skyboard, landing on the ground and catching the board under his arm. He needed to be careful about this. He'd had feminine confrontations before and they were pretty much always a coin toss. One word could be the match to the powder keg. So he decided to take Yumi's advice and talk fast. If he talked fast, then it meant he wouldn't be giving her a way to get a word in edgewise until he was done. So he took a deep breath and began... "So you're telling me it's not natural to wake someone who's asleep, but it's natural to sleep under a fountain? Well in your case, pretty much in it. Look, let me help you out of there before you catch your death of cold, you're already soaked through," Nickle tossed the board aside, letting it floated for a moment while he reached in with both arms and pulled Yumi out, not giving her a chance to deny the act, all the while continuing his fast talking. "And as for me leaving you before. Ok granted the first time I was in a bit of a mood, so you can't blame that on me. I'm generally a polite guy and I wouldn't do such a thing and as for not coming right back to you after the mic night, I can only say I'm sorry and hope that you forgive me for it. I know you're expecting to hear an excuse and maybe you just want me to say one so you can shout more and vent, but I'm gonna be honest, even if I give you a genuine excuse you won't be happy about it and just vent anyway." Nickle took another deep breath, closing his eyes for a second, before looking at Yumi sopping wet. He took off his thick black jacket, revealing his red shirt with white pin stripes beneath. "So look, why don't you just yell at me and get it out of the way. I think I kinda deserve it anyway." With that he placed his jacket around Yumi's shoulders, to keep her warm before grabbing hold of his skyboard again. |

It seemed Nickle had followed her instructions... to the letter. He began talking alright, at such a speed that Yumi in fact found it difficult to keep up, let alone interject. The noise of the water dripping from every orifice of her body, combined with the sound of the fountain itself, didn't help things either. In the end, though, she got the general drift. He was on the offensive. Apparently he had prepared himself for a torrent of abuse from her, and he was trying to strike out first to throw her off-guard. Yumi understood this, even as she was being helped to her feet by this infuriating man. Once out of the fountain, Yumi began the task of wringing out her sopping clothes, listening all the while as Nickle continued his high-speed rant. The girl was mentally poised, just waiting for him to take a breath so she would have an opportunity to reply. Yet as the opportune moment came... she missed it. Noticing the highly unusual sight of the hovering skyboard for the first time, she was momentarily distracted. Just what the hell WAS that thing? And it was enough. Nickle was off again, and before long had completely finished his little speech, concluding with the chivalrous gesture of wrapping his coat around her. The action did not go unnoticed by the girl, who placed great store by such things. Most of her attention, however, was captivated by what he had said. Nickle's words had been severe. Far from the grovelling she had expected, or perhaps desired, to soothe her wounded pride, he had offered no explanation for his disappearance. True, he had apologised, and it had seemed heartfelt... yet most of all, Yumi could not get past his final words. Had she truly made such an awful, aggressive impression on him? He expected her to yell at him, no matter what? Yumi was truly saddened by that thought. True, this man had managed to get her ire up in the past, but she was ordinarily a relatively quiet, reserved kind of girl. Not to the point of being shy, naturally, but it was unusual for her to be involved in a verbal shouting match. She believed that most problems were best solved with calm, soft words. Perhaps it was time to demonstrate this to Nickle. Raising her head, she met his eyes. "I'm not going to yell," she began softly. "I'm sorry that you assumed I would. It's only that you offended me quite deeply. I truly wanted to be friends with you, and twice I made the effort to approach you. On both occasions, however, you fled from me. I can't read you, Nickle. Am I truly that repulsive, that you must run from me? Or is this simply some fault in your personality, that you must disappear abruptly and without warning at random intervals?" Yumi paused to collect herself. A lump had unexpectedly formed in her throat, making it difficult to speak. "Please, enlighten me. I really want to understand." |

Nickle looked a bit taken aback by her soft spoken words. He felt bad now, not realising that in his rash speech, he had perhaps actually sounded rather callous and pretty much prejudging Yumi in everyway. The words wouldn't come to Nickle's mouth initially. However, one did escape his lips. "I...I..." he had actually been rendered speechless. The most likely cause was Yumi's reaction to him and the fact that he was still possibly out of breath, but it still worked. He couldn't meet her gaze and turned his head away slightly. He couldn't exactly turn it down, because he was already looking down on her. "Yumi...Yumi I'm sorry for that. I don't know what came over me..." Nickle knew exactly what it was though. Losing Celestial and Sugar, had caused him to become hard, to become a loner. He would often joke a lot, jesting at his emlpoyees at the arcade and just generally taking his anger out on Heartless, however, at the end of the day, he had been pretty much going solo for a while, ever since this multiverse began. Nickle couldn't blame it on Kinclex's heart anymore. When it had first rejoined him and his emotions had been erratic, then sure. However now, he knew he had stabalized. It was all him now. Summoning the courage, he met Yumi's gaze once more. "Yumi, it's not you, you're not repulsive. I've just been, different. I know I can't use it as an excuse, but to answer what you've said, yes it is me." Nickle slumped down to the floor, looking up at Yumi and crossing his legs. "I'm sorry for being so abrassive with you, I really don't have a reason to excuse my bad behavior." He looked at her, his face incapable of managing even a brave smile to go with his apologetic look, "Yumi...Yumi I'm sorry." |

"I...I..." It seemed she had actually rendered the big man speechless. Amazing! But more than that, he could no longer meet her eyes. Her words, it seemed, had truly affected him, perhaps even more so than his had her. "Yumi...Yumi I'm sorry for that. I don't know what came over me..." He was apologising! Again! To see such a proud man humbled somehow did not give her the satisfaction that she had expected it to. Instead, she just felt deflated. But at least she knew now. His disappearing acts... they had nothing to do with her. It seemed like he was just a messed-up guy after all. She supposed that this knowledge should make her feel better, but as Nickle slumped to the floor beside her and continued his string of profuse apologies, Yumi couldn't help but feel that this whole situation had gotten completely out of control, blown out of all proportion. They couldn't continue on in this way, inflicting blow upon blow to each other's pride and self-esteem. It was time to start afresh. Yumi held her arms out in front of her, and made a firm gesture with her hands, backing it up with speech. "Stop," she said firmly. "Enough. Please, stop apologising now. I get it. We've each been going through a hard time, and up until now it seems like we've been too abrasive with each other to start any sort of friendship." She paused for a moment to meet Nickle's eyes, assessing what she saw there. Once satisfied, she continued. "But I think we've both also grown a lot in the last few months. And I'd like to think that we're now at a point where we can move past these petty misunderstandings that we've had in the past. Let's just be content to get to know each other, without thinking about who might have offended whom when. Otherwise..." her arms slumped to her sides, defeated. "Otherwise, there's just no point, in anything." Having finished her little speech, she sat back to await Nickle's response. In the meantime, she couldn't help suddenly thinking of Jameson, with a pang at her heart. Why had they become estranged? It seemed so silly now. He had been her one friend and confidante in this strange multi-verse, and now she was prevented from turning to him by her own stupid ideas of independence. Well, with that being the case, making new friends was even more important. She needed this thing with Nickle to work. Edited by Beka, Feb 20 2010, 04:21 AM.

Nickle looked up at Yumi, a smile creeping onto his face. She was right. Even if they had been at ends, you couldn't turn people away when the next day they might just be gone due to falling prey to the Heartless or any other danger in the multiverse. Nickle had Selene and Otoha and few others, but still, he had grown into needing someone more personally. Someone he could confide in. It might have been Chizu, but Nickle doubted she'd see him the same way he saw her in that regard. Nickle slowly picked himself up, dusting his pants off. He looked at Yumi, "You're right. I'm not normally one to be deep easily, but the past is past. So perhaps the only thing we can do now that all is said and forgiven is move forward." Nickle smiled, a smile had hadn't used since his high school days when he had been carefree and not bothered with the worries of guarding the world. It was a small, gentle, warm smile. "As a token of new commisioned friendship, you have have this." Nickle opened his left palm in front of Yumi, before covering it with his right. A small glow of blue and white would be seen escaping from between Nickle's hands and fingers. A moment later, Nickle opened his hands and a blue butterfly, made entirely out of condensed electricity flew out and landed on Yumi's shoulder. "It'll last for a couple of hours before fizzling out, but ust think of it as an apology from me." Nickle then looked around the square, "It's kinda deserted here. How come you came here to sleep of all places? Don't you have an apartment to sleep in or something?" Nickle looked at her, holding his skyboard under his arm and awaiting her reply. |

Yumi smiled up at Nickle. For just about the first time since they had met, she could sense that he had been truly sincere in his words. Oh, he had certainly spoken the truth to her before, but never had he truly seemed to want to take their relationship seriously until now. It had just been two strangers or vague acquaintances bumping into each other - there had never been any real move on his part to advance their friendship. This was different. Somehow, his tone had changed. Yumi didn't know what the turning point had been, but she didn't really care. If it meant that this frustratingly unpredictable man was finally going to settle down and treat her as someone he would seriously consider being friends with, then that was all that mattered. The electric butterfly was an interesting touch. It was quite corny, and could easily be seen as Nickle trying to show off his powers. To a girl who used her own only rarely, and only in the direst need, such a feat was not as admirable as it may have been to a more simple-minded admirer. Yumi was certain somehow that he had had many of these in the past, and so had assumed that a similar trick would be equally appreciated by her. Despite of this though, Yumi knew that Nickle had intended it as an innocent gift, a symbol of friendship. As such, she merely smiled, concealing her private thoughts, and accepted the gift graciously. "Thank you," she smiled up at him. After all, there was nothing wrong with a bit of corniness once in a while, she supposed... "It's kinda deserted here. How come you came here to sleep of all places? Don't you have an apartment to sleep in or something?" Yumi blushed profusely. He had caught her out. The truth was, since leaving Jameson to strike out on her own, she hadn't had a proper place of her own to sleep in Traverse Town. It hadn't mattered so much when she was off exploring EXE world, or battling on Shinya... but now that she was back 'home'... it hurt not to have a home. She had taken to catching short naps wherever she could, not daring to sleep for long. She hadn't had a full night's sleep in days. Nickle didn't need to know such details, however. "I didn't actually come here to sleep... I was just sitting down to relax for a while, because this is such a tranquil place. It's good for going over your thoughts and sorting them out. But I guess I just drifted off..." She blushed, and her next words were so soft that Nickle would have to strain to hear them. "I guess I haven't been getting much sleep lately without a bed of my own." |

Truth be told Nickle had only ever performed the trick with the butterfly twice in the past. The first time being to cheer up a gil he'd met downtown due to her crying and the second time being to show a new student to the hotspots of Hyakuji, due to him being unable to due to pressing matters at the elemancer tower. However, as long as Yumi liked it, then it was fine. What did not seem fine was for him to question why she had been sleeping near the fountain. Judging from the blush that was now clear on Yumi's face, Nickle seemed to be the observer who ahd just found the Smurfs robbing the Gummi Bears of all their Gummiberry juice in order for the smurfs to clean their ceilings more easily. Nickle listened to her explanaition, but had had enough experience with girls such as Chizu and Cassandra to know that Yumi was just being proud in regards to possibly not having a place to sleep. What did surprise him though was that she muttered something near parallel to his own thoughts shortly after. Nickle didn't catch it all, but what he did catch sounded like "...without a bed of my own." Nickle closed his eyes briefly and shook his head slightly. "Come on, I don't think a girl should be sleeping on the street alone anywhere, even if you had just drifted off." Not to mention a teenage girl like Yumi. After all, it wasn't impossible for a tentacle heartless to exist... Nickle shook his head more rapidly to prevent the image from even forming in his mind. "S-So! How's about we get outta here. I think I need to make up for ditching you before, right?" Nickle then held out his skyboard, "Here, I think this one would be easier for you to use than the feathers." If Yumi was confused, then it would become clear what Nickle had meant as light suddenly began to glow from his shoulder blades and form itself into an array of white feathers. In mere seconds, Nickle seemed to have grown a pair of white angel wings. Placing his hand on his hip, still holding out the board for Yumi to take, Nickle spoke again, "Any idea what kind of treat I should get you? Ice-cream? Dinner? Books?" Nickle was just throwing ideas out there, just as a way to see what Yumi's preferences were. If he upset her again, it would be useful to know what was a good way to make it up to her. |

"Come on, I don't think a girl should be sleeping on the street alone anywhere, even if you had just drifted off." There was a slight pause as Nickle seemed to have a thought which made him uncomfortable, but he quickly recovered. "S-So! How's about we get outta here. I think I need to make up for ditching you before, right?" Yumi was sceptical. Just where exactly did he want to take her? The timing of his pause, the look on his face, combined with his words... all conspired to make it seem suspiciously like the man had been imagining her in HIS bed. And there would be none of that, thank you very much! Yumi was close to spluttering with outrage, but she realised that she had no proof of what Nickle's thoughts had actually been. Moreover, he hadn't even gone so far as to suggest that she visit his house - at least, not yet. The girl sighed internally. She supposed that once again, she would have to cut him some slack. If only Jameson had been there! He could have told her exactly what kind of seedy emotions were flowing through the other man. But alas, it was not meant to be. Yumi felt an unexpected pang of sadness at the thought of her former mentor. She passed it off as mere regret for the way they had parted, but she still couldn't help but wonder what kind of dangerous misadventures he had been getting himself into lately. She sincerely hope he was ok; she fully intended to reconcile with him the next time they met. In the meantime, however, there were a pair of angel wings erupting from her companion to deal with. "What the - " Yumi recoiled in shock. Just who the hell was this guy, that he could sprout feathers at will? Was he even human?! She was used to survivors from Hyakuji exhibiting all kinds of strange powers, but this was something else. As the shock wore off, though, the girl gradually began to realise just how useful this ability of Nickle's could be. Imagine! The power of flight, at his disposal. The prospect was an exciting one. Yumi had always longed for such an ability herself. She had been so thrilled when she discovered that she could at least break her falls using her atom condensing ability. But actual flight... it made her own power pale in comparison. It seemed that Yumi was to be given her own transport, however, as the be-winged man held out the hover board he had arrived on for her use. The girl looked over the contraption dubiously; unlike a solid pair of wings on your own body, this thing looked like it was all too easy to fall off. She supposed, however, that it couldn't be too difficult if a questionable character like Nickle could use it, so she reached out to take the board from his waiting hand. "Any idea what kind of treat I should get you? Ice-cream? Dinner? Books?" Yumi froze. Was he trying to bribe her? Did he think he could buy her favour or good opinion? More to the point, what would she like him to get for her? The girl was caught so off-guard that she honestly didn't know her own taste. She wouldn't mind an ice-cream, but that was just because it was a fairly warm day and she had a craving. She didn't want Nickle to then think that was the way to her heart forever more. "I guess... dinner tonight would be nice?" Yumi was pleased with herself. Not only had she scored herself a free meal when she was perilously low on cash, but she had also seamlessly created an opportunity for the two of them to interact in a closed setting with no chance of Nickle running away. Smirking on the inside, she took the hover board into her hands and turned it over and around, trying to figure out how it worked. "So... just how exactly do I ride this thing then? If we're going to get going then let's get going." Her tone was a little gruff, but on the inside she was secretly pleased. She was going to fly! |

Dinner eh? Well Nickle could afford it easily enough, the arcade had been making decent business so he had cash to spare for a little night out, even if it was with a girl who looked ready to club him at any random moment. Nickle was about ready to get a gust going under his wings and take off when he realised that Yumi had never ridden the skyboard before. He refrained from facepalming at his own stupidity, but decided it would be best just to give her a rundown. "Oh, well it's real easy. The board does most of the work actually. You just have to get your balance right and then feel the air around and beneath you, then kinda just think 'up' I guess." It sounded a bit like pixie-dust and thinking happy thoughts, but it seemed to work for Nickle regardless. Nickle scrathed his neck, closing one eye in uncertainty. He'd never really explained it before, seeing as he had been the only one to actually use the board. "It's basically just like skateboarding or snowboarding, but you can-" Nickle cut himself short. The downside was falling to your death when high up in the air. Now that was a problem. Nickle reached into his pocket and pulled out four Abenobashi tokens. He clutched them in his fist for a moment before taking the skyboard and quickly placing two of the coins to where he guess Yumi's feet would go, before giving the board back to her. "Here, put these on the bottoms of you shoes." He held out his hand which had the remaining two tokens in it. Basically, what Nickle was intending on doing was creating a magnetic cling between Yumi and the board, so that she wouldn't fall off. He smiled at her as he awaited her to take the two coins, "You won't fall this way." Once she was done, they could hopefully get going. |

Judging from the sheepish look on his face, Nickle seemed to realise his mistake at his assumption that she would simply know how to ride the skyboard. His explanation, however, was... interesting, to say the least. Feel the air beneath her then think 'up'? Wasn't that Peter Pan, fairy dust stuff? But Yumi shook her head and prepared to follow his instructions anyway. After all, she was used to manipulating the air around her now. And at least she knew that she could break her fall if she happened to fall off. Nickle apparently was unaware of her ability, however (of course he was, how could he possibly know? Yumi wondered at her own stupidity sometimes), and was making safeguards of his own for her. He had attached some kind of metal coins to the skyboard, and offered the remaining two for her to attach to her feat. Seemingly he intended to do some kind of magnetic bond. Amusingly enough, Yumi thought she could probably achieve the same effect using her atom condescing ability - she could literally fuse the two coins together. Wishing to show Nickle that she was not the entirely helpless damsel in distress that he might think her, she smirked and took back the skyboard, as well as the offered coins. "Allow me," she said, and proceeded to attach herself, through her shoes, to the board. Getting off would be another matter of course... hopefully she would be able to expand the atoms with enough control to separate the coins but not cause an explosion... Yumi sweat-dropped. Perhaps she should have thought through her actions a little better... but at least she could always get more shoes, even if she did have to leave her own attached to the board. She laughed as she pictured Nickle's face if she returned his prized possession to him so altered. It was almost worth it, just to see his reaction. Grinning up at the man beside her, she proceeded to think "up", and next thing had the strange sensation of all the air currents around her shifting to accommodate her movement. The shock of the initial take-off threw her off-balance, and she would have fallen off had she not been fused to the board. Once she had regained her centre of gravity, however, she began trying out some sideways movements, and even a few tricks. Before long she was laughing happily, enjoying the sensation of flight more than she had ever hoped she would. Calling down to Nickle, she waved and beckoned for him to join her in the sky. "What are you waiting for, slow-coach?" she teased. |

Nickle stood on the ground, watching as Beka got the hang of the skyboard. He stretched out his wings in the meantime as she got the hang of it. However, when she began calling him a slowpoke, he couldn't help but shake his head and smile. He didn't want to flaunt his powers right now, especially when he was just trying to be friendly to Yumi. There had been a lot of friction between them in their past meetings, but you know what they say, third time's the charm. With a flap of his wings, Nickle was soon airborn and slowly rising up towards Yumi. Once he wa on the same level as her, he smiled, "Sorry to make you wait so long miss speed demon. Come on, let's get going. I know this nice little rooftop bistro. You might just find it to your liking." Nickle then turned and began to glide past Yumi and obviously towards where the restaurant was. Nickle was glad the night sky around Traverse Town was like this, it meant being able to ride the skyboard without worry of losing control. For you see, in bad weather, it became much harder and sometimes impossible to even ride the air currents. With his wings spread out and his arms to his side, Nickle looked to Yumi who was alongside him, "So, here's what I know about you. You're a little bit easy to heat up, you like kareoke and," What Nickle said next he said with a bit of a passive look on his face, the expression combined with the words therefore producing a dual statement and question to confirm the statement, "You're homeless at the moment?" Now, Nickle wasn't about to take Yumi in. Hell he had taken some time before even letting Celestial into his house. The problem was, his house wasn't here right now thanks to the Heartless, so Nickle was renting a 3 bedroom apartment. The other two bedrooms however, were serving as his parts storage and workshop, as he often took some of the machines and broken componants from the arcade home with him. "Are you tied for money?" If that was the case, Nickle suppossed he could offer her a job at the arcade...but would she even want it? |

Yumi was totally enraptured by the novelty and pleasure of flight. It was more liberating than she could have ever imagined or hoped. After only a few minutes, the girl was in total control of the skyboard, going a little crazy experimenting with different tricks. She had to admit, with this, Nickle had won major brownie points. She couldn't really continue to hold a grudge against someone who had given her such an amazing experience. When he joined her in the air, Yumi could only smile as he suggested a rooftop bistro for their night meal. "Sounds good," she confirmed, before following beside him at an easy pace towards what she assumed was the direction of the restaurant. The girl was quite content to merely ride in silence, drinking in the sensation of flight, but apparently to Nickle the novelty had long worn off, as he soon broke the silence. "So, here's what I know about you. You're a little bit easy to heat up, you like karaoke and," - a pause - "You're homeless at the moment?" The latter was both a question and a statement. Yumi immediately stiffened. It hadn't really been much of an issue up till now, and she hadn't admitted it yet, even to herself. But when it came down to it, as long as she was estranged from Jameson then she could no longer find a home under his roof. She had become so reliant on the detective, taken for granted that she could always count on him. It was why she had struck out on her own in the first place - she had been seeking independence. Well, she had found it alright - she was quite firmly independently homeless. It was embarrassing to admit. "Are you tied for money?" Nickle probed further. Yumi was speechless for a moment. She didn't know how to answer him. The simple truth was yes, she was. And the easy answer would be to accept this man's help, if he was offering. But Yumi was a stubborn girl, and homeless life was not yet so miserable that she would fall right back into the same trap she had tried so hard to escape from - reliance on a man. She had gone so far as to sacrifice a friendship to that cause. It would be disrespectful to Jameson and all they had shared to just begin mooching off Nickle in the same way. Yes. She had her pride, and she would not sacrifice it for the sake of a comfortable bed or a hot meal. "Truth be told I am, but it's none of your concern," Yumi finally answered. "My situation changed recently but I'm dealing with it." Changing both her tone and the expression on her face, she chose to focus on the earlier part of Nickle's statement. "But if that's all you know about me, then I think it's high time we got to know each other better. Those are hardly my best qualities, or the way I would describe myself! What's worse, I know even less about you. Just that you lost your family to the heartless, just like me, and have a knack for disappearing without warning." Yumi poked her tongue out at the man and laughed cajolingly. "But I'm guessing there's a lot more to you than that also, so it's probably a good thing we're about to have dinner together! Plenty of time to get to know each other properly." Smiling, the girl suddenly dropped down three metres in the air, then pulled up to her original altitude while zig-zagging through a figure-eight motion. Laughing from sheer exhilaration at her unexpected manoeuvring, Yumi couldn't help but think that this was turning out to be a very good day. |
