[Time: Night]

As a kid, I was always taught that everything happened for a reason. I was taught that everything is was, is, and forever will be for a purpose. I wonder if that same logic can be applied to worlds.

I know that sounds kinda strange, but think about it. Why do some types of worlds exist? Does it exist merely to host a type of life? What if there is no life, biology-wise? I can still assume it was created for a reason, right? There has to be one. Otherwise, why even bother? What good is creating something that serves no purpose. No, it doesn't have to be a good or bad purpose (those things are relative anyway, so I won't bother separating them without shame). But still. There must be something.

Take this world, for example. Niwa. It's my first time here, but I've heard plenty about it in Traverse Town. A big crime place. I suppose that's one way of putting it, since you can't really call it a crime if there's no law forbidding it. But I simply assume it's a de-facto thing, since a policing force exists in this world (corrupt as they may be, I hear).

Maybe it's a corporation thing. Nothing corrupts as much as greed. I mean, who DOESN'T want money? But that isn't to say that greed does not stem from an innocent cause. You want to make money to buy things and survive (because this world merger has shown that Communism isn't only a disaster in my world). That doesn't make you bad (or inherently so). That just means you want to survive. And what if you have a family? You want them to survive as well, which is, honestly, considered very noble.

Anyway, enough of that for now. I'm here...at Warehouse 79. It's abandoned, a stranger will tell you. Ask them again, and they will probably say it's a hub for dark, devious activities and gatherings. I dunno what you'd do, but I scoffed when they said that. Nothing creates paranoia more than lack of knowledge. Seriously, I doubt many of the people I asked have even been here, let alone bother to leave Traverse Town. It's too safe.

Whatever though. I'm walking up to the Warehouse now and nothing's jumped out or shot at me. I'm even using my Planar Combat Visor to inspect the mirror of this area: nothing. Yeah, I'll have to go inside to check for a portal, but that's not my only objective this time.

Despite my reservations about believing the "illegal activities" nonsense (you can do illegal things anywhere in Niwa, right?), I still have to find out if I'm wrong (meaning it's true). Maybe they have some Organization people inside. Probably not though. They seem to be a bit of a rumor themselves, assuming they do exist.

The door is open. Good. It's too cold to stay out here anyway. In I go.

There were times when it hurts a lot. Tatsumi sort of figured that from the very beginning, these kinds of powers are not without it shares of pain and problem. Once in a while, his entire body is wracked by it so much that he can barely think straight. No amount of alcohol or tobacco could take his mind of it.

If there was one thing for certain however, the monster in him craves, as if the pain that wracks him were its hunger pangs, was signaling to him to feed.

The wretched thing that hid in the warehouse never realized he was there when he fell on her. Pitiful thing was hiding out from the local yakuza who wants to settle a debt with her with her life, as was the rule of the city. Tatsumi was only happy to help her disappear for good, the wet sounds of his sickle blades slicing into her music to his hyper senses, and the smell of warm blood a powerful narcotic that drove him mad.

When it was all over, his own senses returned, and standing over the remains of his latest pitiful victim, Tatsumi elicited a sigh, depressed that once again, he let the monster that was part of him reign free. Whether or not the victim was hardly innocent or not, it pains him that he was now part of the wheel of violence that Niwa runs on.

“Some reporter I turn out to be.” He muttered; it was common practice that they were suppose to write a story, not become the story. There might be a chance that this might go unheard, but-

Someone comes. Even in his human form, the monster’s hyper senses still somewhat affects him, and slowly and stealthily, he slipped close to a container, and makes his way forward slowly to see and find out who is it that decides to roam this god forsaken place at this time.

And deep down inside him, the monster stirred slowly yet again…

Once inside, JP began to navigate to the best of his ability. True, since it was a Warehouse, most of the volume of the place consisted of a wide enclosure. But he couldn't say for sure if a portal, or even a meeting, would take place in a wide-open space formerly inhabited by automated machines. He figured he had all the time in the world, so why not go slow about it.

Hmm, it really is warmer. I suppose because the place is sealed off. That's a definite sign that some shit goes down here. I mean, if it was truly abandoned, then why would every window be closed? Someone else probably thought this place was cold as shit, and warmed it up.

Stranger still, when I look around, I see nothing more out of the ordinary. I walk to the middle of the building, where I can have the best view of everything (though probably the most susceptible area to ambush). But then again, what do I care? I have the most exquisite method of escaping harm (or so I constantly tell myself). Maybe I'm a coward. Yeah.

Pausing after looking around, JP reached up and activated his Planar Combat Visor. This would allow him to view the area in both light and dark realms. Perfect for locating anomalies in the region. Not to mention increase visibility, since it was the next best thing to night vision. One example would be seeing someone's "shadow" presence in the dark realm, since they exist in this light world, its mirror.

Hmm...nothing, huh? No portals. No people. No shadows. Maybe they're on other floors. It's way too strange to think otherwise. Something should be here. I can feel it. Or maybe I'm stupid. I'm pretty sure if it ain't showin' up in the mirror of this world, it ain't here either.

Needless to say, JP was completely unaware of the presence behind the container nearby. The visor could only see so much, and definitely not through solid objects.

"Hello? Is anyone here? I'm inquiring about job offerings for various groups around Niwa, and I was told not to--I mean, to COME here and ask around. I specialize in assassination, or murder, if they aren't that important, really."

That's the cool thing about saying all that. If someone heard, and answers, then I'm good. But if nobody is here, and I was talking to myself, nobody will know how much of a dumbass I am for doing that. Heh heh...

"Hello? Is anyone here? I'm inquiring about job offerings for various groups around Niwa, and I was told not to--I mean, to COME here and ask around. I specialize in assassination, or murder, if they aren't that important, really."

Tatsumi froze in mid step, at the mention of ‘assassination’ and ‘murder’ and it wasn’t because he had just done exactly that just moments ago. What piqued his interest was that this person came here to sell his skills, never mind the fact that the place was empty for the night but the person obviously didn’t know, and that means opportunity and-

Tatsumi hold that thought before it continued, realizing almost too late what he was actually wanting to do to this newcomer. The monster inside him was stirring again and he shuddered at the thought of going into that state again after having done so earlier for a more or less the same reason. What’s worse was that the thing was reasoning with him, reasoning for its second release for the night when Tatsumi felt he had enough.

A menace to the society, someone who probably find thrills in his job.

As if you aren’t?

One missing person like him wouldn’t do the city any harm; you’d actually be contributing to it.

This is wrong!

Nothing comes without a price; no happiness is achieved without sacrifice, and you yourself should know this very, very well.

As much as he loathes the thing, it was right, but Tatsumi was much stronger than that… or so he fleetingly hopes. His first act tonight pretty much made him wary of the other side of his character but now, he was thoroughly afraid: the thing was just him from the start.

Ever since this whole crisis of infinite worlds started, he had became lax in his perception and several times on several worlds, he was waylaid to believe that good things can possibly happen without any sacrifice at all and in some of these worlds, yes, it was true and that had clouded him, making him dream of it being possible on other worlds, even on Niwa if allowed.

But then, he remembered that he had stopped dreaming a long time ago.

Straightening up, Tatsumi reaches into his coat pocket and took out the pistol he had always hidden underneath and stepped out of hiding. Without a word, he raised it and pointed it at the youth and pulled the trigger, firing a shot.

The Walther PPK/S fires in either .32 ACP or .380 ACP. I'm assuming for the sake of survival, the bullets are the latter. It's up to you though, and I'll go edit the wound ballistics as needed if so.

I listen...and look. Still nothing...

Maybe I should try again? Maybe I wasn't loud enough? No, this is a Warehouse. This place should echo like a mother--THE FUCK WAS THAT?!?! UNGH!!!

JP lurched, his eyes watering with pain and surprise as he felt his left arm shoulder catch fire. Immediately, he clenched the limb, sucking air through his teeth at first, but then finding he couldn't, and merely began to gasp. This was, of course, until the epinephrine and adrenaline kicked in. Almost immediately, the pain began to subside. But by then, he had realized what happened, and found himself turned around, and looking at the shooter.

"Holy fuckin' hell dude! Why the hell did you shoot me?! Who the fuck shoots a kid?! Huh?! Really?!"

Goddamn this guy. What did he do that for? Ouch. Aw, great, now I can hardly move my shoulder. What's that, a pistol? Damnit! Should I rip his throat out? I swear to god, if he even looks like he's about to fire, I will. He doesn't even look like an asshole. So why's he being one?

Luckily for JP, the wound wasn't fatal. The bullet deflected off the bone right near the shoulder socket junction, which would leave JP in considerable pain and bleeding (the wound opened pretty wide), but otherwise, was nothing to die over. Hydrostatic shock wasn't even a risk at this point. The pain itself was more from the shoulder damage than the wound ballistic itself, since the bullet hadn't penetrated deep enough to mushroom or overpressure the deep tissues nearby.

Delicately, JP applied his right hand to the wound in order to quell the bleeding, which was fine, for now.

"Thanks alot, dickwad! Now I'm bleeding and my shoulder is fucked up. What did I ever do to you anyway? You don't see me running up on you and bustin' caps in your ass, now do you? Huh? Say something!"

Still attentive to the fact he could escape another attack, JP still didn't feel much fear. But getting shot didn't sit well with him.

Sake of WHO's Survival? Since uh.. .32ACP has barely HALF the muzzle energy of .380ACP. A standard Federal Hydrashok .32 load packs a 65 grain bullet and packs 167J of muzle energy, whereas a standard .380 load of a 90 grain bullet packs 270J. Idly, Xing dragged me here so his next post is something other than 'shoot you'.

It was about time to move. An existance like Tatsumi would normally be ignored by their jurisdiction - there simply wasn't enough manpower for everything, and they still had to maintain a reserve just in case. But in this case, there was an exception. A dangerous existance that also actively traveled between worlds.

The disconcerting thin wasn't what they knew about it, but what they didn't. What was it? It was somewhat similar to Hajime's form as a rider, but alot more beastial and savage. Whether it was cosmetic or something else was unknown at the time. Perhaps someone similar to Hajime who had been corrupted? It wasn't her job to make assumptions, only to deal with it.

His location was localised to the area, but it was still a pretty big place to search.

The sound however, clinched it. The sound of gunfire is not something to be mistaken to a trained ear. A car's backfire was one thing, the discharge of a firearm was another, even if they sounded close enough to be mistaken by a layman, eventually anyone who worked around such weapons would be able to tell.

There wasn't anyone else suspected to be here, and Miyuki ran as soon as she heard the noise. Reflexively, the Rouzer was already in her hands. The distance was less than 30 metres, and it hardly took a few seconds. She soon found herself at the entrance of the warehouse, the strangle weapon pointed at Tatsumi, and declared in a loud, commanding voice.

"Tomare!"

Tatsumi didn’t as much as flinch when he saw who he had opened fire on. The youth wouldn’t be the only first young assassin he would know of besides the ones employed by some of the city’s various Yakuza group. Adding him to their numbers would only create yet another misery in the city so it was imperative that he kills him now before he kills again.

In the gloom of the warehouse, Junpei might not be able to see clearly the small, barely noticeable smile on Tatsumi’s hard face while the youth shouted a string of curses at him. He stood there, waiting for him to finally finish cursing as that will be the last thing the boy would ever say and he wouldn’t know it.

Before he could pull the trigger and end it though, another presence made herself know, rather commandingly if Tatsumi might add as if she owned the place. He had the vague sense that he had seen her before but at the moment, he came to the youth’s aid which means she’s his ally which means they’re both one of the same. The other thing that registered was that she too was pointing a gun at him, and that means there are now two existences here he must extinguish.

Accel.

Feeling that the boy wouldn’t be able to do much in his state, Tatsumi, using his rarely used Innate Time Control to speed himself up a bit, swiftly turns his pistol towards her general direction and pulled the trigger twice, sending two bullets flying towards her: Miyuki would only see him suddenly pointing the gun at her seemingly without moving and firing it.

Not wanting to know if his shot would hit true, Tatsumi steps back and took cover behind the metal container that was behind him. He had this feeling that this woman would not be easy to kill, which means he’s going to have a challenge on his hand, and he welcomes it.

“Holy-“ Not far behind Miyuki, enters Hajime Go, BOARD’s recent junior member. For the first time since he joined, he was to be paired with one of the available senior members, Miyuki in this instance, on a mission. This is to help him get a feel of going on a mission so that one day he would be able to go solo on his own, much like how Miyuki does most of the time.

The first thing that caught his attention was the young man standing away from their target clenching his bleeding shoulder, which means the shot they have heard from outside found a hit, much to Hajime’s chagrin; he was hoping that they complete this capture mission without shedding blood but it seems their target might not have the same reservation as he does.

Hajime went over to the young man to help him. “Hey, you alright? He shot you, didn’t he? Let me take a look at your wound, we’re here to help.” Hajime said to Junpei.

Oh, great, someone else is here. And I suppose...yep, there goes the shooting. Everyone except me has a gun. Silly me. Why would I ever go to Niwa with a weapon? It's really the dream community, I've heard. Urgh.

Despite his arm, JP crouched low the moment the first bullet cracked off, scooting behind a container and looking from around its corner. Damned he'd be if someone shot him again. He felt like he could kill someone now.

Of course, maybe I deserved to get shot. I mean, I wasn't exactly selling Girl Scout Cookies by announcing my availability for contract killing when I walked in here. But, huh...that's funny. Who's this action bastard-looking...guy? And why is my shooter moving so fast?

JP was able to see the speed increase on the man because of his time-lag (small as it may be) in the mirror of this world. The visor enhanced the imaging of the guy's movement, and magnified the discrepancy when the aberration could not be identified. After all, even things at light speed still take time to reach you, visually, if nothing else.

“Hey, you alright? He shot you, didn’t he? Let me take a look at your wound, we’re here to help.”

JP blinked, chuckling softly (though he stopped abruptly when the pain spiked).

"You know, I probably shouldn't have come in looking for jobs like that. Murder isn't exactly a topic you'd bring up at the dinner table even in Niwa, huh?" JP asked, somewhat humorously.

"Oh well. Thanks for helping. I kinda get the feeling something was gonna go down here even if I didn't show up, right?"

Code:

Ideally, it still would have been better to take the .380 ACP, considering he might have packed the FMJ .32 round with Nickel ball (Nickel being dangerous because of it's penetration of armor effects and smaller size, allowing less energy to spread and more to gather at a single point). Whereas despite the higher speed (marginally higher anyway) and larger size (yay 9mm if it doesn't penetrate well enough anyway), would have messed JP over even more. So, yes, it is fortunate for JP.

The only reason I brought all that up was so that Xing didn't think I was trying to cheat and dodge bullets all uber-like. That's why I asked him about the bullet and mentioned dynamics. I was trying to be considerate to his actions without godmodding and such.

He's a reporter and not bound by the hague convention. He has little reason to carry a .32 in FMJ, when a Federal Hydrashok JHP load (which is 1 of the most effective ammo brands that can be commercially purchased) is more effective on an unarmored target. A .32 will, unless he gets really luck and hits something important, take far longer to incapacitate a human being than a .380 will under similar circumstances. Unlike with rifles which can get away with smaller bullet diametre due to using a more powerful cartridge in general, bigger generally really is better. A bigger, heavier bullet is generally much more lethal when you're talking handguns. ...Says the nutbar who runs a character that insists in carrying a singleshot breakaction in 7.92x57mm Mauser.

It was surprising, but also not completely unexpected. The first shot had missed cleanly, while a sharp, painful sensation registered in her abdomen at the second. It wasn't nearly enough. Despite surprise at his speed and reaction, she fired a burst towards him as he ran.

"Hajime, get him out of here!" she wasn't in the mood for anyone else to get in the way or having to keep anyone else safe.

The more leeway she had to use destruction methods to deal with him, the better. Years of training and experience had taken over, and dealing with a gunshot victim was simply not in the cards while they were still in the line of fire. Running towards cover, time seemed to slow down for her as well as her heart raced and filled the body with adrenalin.

Just what was she up against? What could he do? How does he think? ...There were far too many gaps in intelligence to know, but it was because of those gaps that she was sent here in the first place.

Their target however, appeared to be a mage. Big mistake, she thought loudly in her head, for him to engage someone who specialised in their destruction. Crouched beside a metal container, she trained her weapon towards Tatsumi, waiting for him to emerge again, preparing for a snapshot when he did.

The range couldn't be more than 40 metres. An easy shot.

Tatsumi was bracing for it, but even now after all these years of practice, he still couldn’t get use to the painful sensation of time correcting the area around his body after dropping the time control field. For this one, at the amount of time he spent and used to go fast even for a brief moment, it felt like a thousand hands had slapped across his entire body, very, very hard.

He was safe behind the cover of the container at least, and was ready to keep moving when he couldn’t hear his assailant coming after him. Was she waiting, or was she approaching slowly? Either way, Tatsumi had to act fast before she gets an advantage over him. Checking through his coat pockets quickly for stuffs he can use, he found one of his spare camera flash unit and some changes, and immediately, he got an idea.

After setting the flash to ‘charge’ which would take a few seconds, Tatsumi then turns and throws the changes he had out towards the open but at a height he hoped would be about the same as his head height; this would be a distraction only. He would then brace himself, and went into Accel speed once again, and this time, he too broke cover but in a lower, kneeling position. In the short time he was in Accel, he would quickly find the female gunner, then disengages Accel, and then raised the camera flash up and fired a blinding flash at her.

At the same time, he would then fire two more shots at her general direction, unable to aim right with the combination of the flash and the pain of time correcting his body.

“Nope, not a chance.” Hajime replied while giving Junpei’s wound a quick check: the bullet is still inside his shoulder since there were no exit wound, so he’d have to take the bullet out and luckily for him, he has the tools he need in the first-aid pack he is carrying on his back.

"Hajime, get him out of here!"

“Yes, ma’am!” Hajime replied at that, trusting his current superior on her decision on this. “We’ll have to get outside so I can treat your wound. Things are going to get hectic in here. Can you stand?”

Righty. As long as he ain't packing the nickel. Anyway...

Just my luck. That's all I can really say. I don't believe this guy though...about the whole "coincidence" of all this. These people obviously know each other. But I won't presume they've engaged each other simply because of me.

“We’ll have to get outside so I can treat your wound. Things are going to get hectic in here. Can you stand?”

Huh. What a considerate thing to say. Yeah, I can stand. Hell, I can Localize right outside the door...make both our jobs a bit easier. But I guess I should tell him this.

"Thanks dude, but I'll tell you what. You make it safely to the door, and meet me there. I'll be outside. If you were to carry me, that would take too long. And besides, it's just my arm. I'm good to go elsewhere on my body."

JP smiled at the guy, nodding his head toward the direction of the door, as if affirming what he'd said. Still clutching his arm, JP performed the maneuver.

The first thing he noticed, however, was the strange feeling to it. It didn't feel like a normal maneuver. His arm seemed to be missing something. But he couldn't quite put his finger on it.

Either way, he re-localized outside the door, just as planned, and waited for the friend to appear.

The flash would never come to matter. As soon as he came out, the response was immediate. She pulled the trigger and unleashed a hail of gunfire as Tatsumi broke out of cover.

Posted Image

Upper arm, collar bone, wind pipe, skull cap, solar plexus, ribs, hand, camera, weapon, the target was not so much 'the person named Tatsumi' as much as it was a indiscriminate barrage to destroy the space he occupied and everything that existed within it.

“Eh wait what?” Hajime managed before the guy just up and suddenly disappeared into thin air, or at least, that’s what it seems like to Hajime. Despite being told what he was going to do, it still surprised Hajime.

Looking around to make sure it wasn’t just his eyes playing games with him, Hajime then slowly made his way back out through the door in, hoping as well that the guy wasn’t playing around with or he’d probably get scolded by Miyuki or something.

Much to his slight surprise again, the Junpei was already there, just as he said he would. “Wow, that’s some neat trick you got.” Hajime commented, fumbling for the first aid pack’s release latch so he can start on the first aid. “Okay, I’m going to have to take remove your shirt here or it’ll be weird if I treat your wound like it is.” Hajime said, finally setting the first-aid pack free.

---

Tatsumi saw the bullets fly towards him first. From his perspective, time outside the field passes slightly slower and was no trouble for him to be able to see the bullets fly slowly towards him.

But the pain in his body from keeping the Time Control field up slowed his chain of thoughts almost to a standstill, and he moved slightly too late when the hail of bullets were already almost upon him. He barely tried to get back into cover when the several shots hit him in chest and legs, eliciting a pained yelp from him not just from the bullets but also from releasing the Time Control field again.

The pain was almost too much, and Tatsumi stayed there unmoving while trying to re-collect his strength. Through the haze of pain and anger at the situation he was in, he realized there was still something he can do, and grinned as the he let himself fall into the heart of the beast. His form morphed and bubbled before the human flesh and clothes were replaced by the armored body of Gils.

He was up and about almost as quickly as the pain subsided after transforming, with this form’s higher metabolic rate that increases his healing factor to a degree. Tatsumi snarled with displeasure at the humiliation inflicted upon him, and was more than eager to return the favor.

Turning around, he spotted a barrel nearby which he then lifted with and stepped out of cover again and just lobbed the whole thing straight at Miyuki.

Despite the absurdity of walking around topless, JP immediately took off his jacket (he was wearing a large windbreaker he often sported). It was very difficult to do, however, as his shoulder was injured and the blood was sticking to the inner liner of the jacket. His eyes fell onto the first aid kit, and then back to this ally, as he tried to control the pain.

"This trick has saved my ass a good many time, but also ended the lives of many others" JP said, sounding almost regretful.

"You a medic in your day job or somethin'?" he asked, hoping this guy knew what he was doing.
