Do the right thing...

Hyakuji 2.0 Template Character Name: Junpei "JP" Sonoda Gender: Male Age: 17 Height: 6"1' Weight: 156lbs. Description or Image of Character Appearance: Junpei's Appearence ^ (I figure since the picture is black/white, I'll describe the colors. His hair is a light brown with slightly dark roots, and his eyes are a light brown as well. He's a quarter American on his mom's side. His skin, otherwise, is fair). Occupation: Student Grade Level: Senior Alignment: Dark Powers/Abilities: Localized Spacial-Anomaly Maneuvering Despite the fancy-shmanzy name, it's actually a very simple concept. Based on the assumption that there is an opposite to everything that exists in one type of dimension (mirror), one, with knowledge of this plane and the ability to access it at will, can move between it. In other words, The World of Darkness (of course, Junpei would claim this has always existed, regardless of this recent world merger). That said, this ability grants a few prized uses to Junpei. The first and foremost being it's use for combat. A simple description would be during an engagement with someone, with a typical move being to phase into the dark world, re-locate, and then re-appear in the light world. To an enemy, this would look like Junpei simply vanished, then re-appeared at his side, sticking his foot out to trip them and what not. The energy required to switch planes can also be used to deliver more forceful blows, because of the energy transferred (neither lost nor created, but gathered). It also enables him to escape from dangerous situations (or rather, a better chance of doing so). Of course, this ability also has a major downside, which is revealed with the word "Localized". While Junpei is able to use this ability to maneuver about, he can only do so within the confines of a 50 meter area for each "jump" (meaning he can't move to the dark world, go to another part of the city, and then jump back in a timely manner, if at all). This 50 meter radius extends to both dark and light planes, with no exception. Not only that, but once he appears in a certain plane, his entire form must appear before the move is complete (meaning he can't, like, stick his foot out of a wormhole, while keeping his body in the other dimension). Also, depending on the actions taken before, during, and after the maneuver, Junpei might end up expending alot of stamina (this holds especially true during a fight, but much less so say, if he was trying to escape a group of thugs). (I figure that, while the ability itself sounds powerful, I could possibly count on the trust that my past character, Ky Zerueyun, was given in regard to his even more powerful ability, given that I didn't abuse it once or anything. If I remember correctly, Sai and Cypriss had been the ones to approve the power, since they figured they could trust me. I hope that still holds true to whomever moderates this profile). Martial-arts wise, Junpei uses a mix of agility/maneuver and percision strikes/attacks, making most of his fighting capability suited to escaping/hit-and-run. He's definitely not one to stick around for the fight, or to keep it going if he's already in one. A bystander could also describe the style as that of an assassin. Or, more appropriately, as a killer. This suits him well, since his agility is based around his reaction speed and more importantly, his flexibility. If nothing else, Junpei is extremely flexible, comparable to that of a contortionist, or a Parkour/Freerunner user (he tends to try both things out in his free time). Since he lacks defense, he'll rely on the ability to get the hell out of the way, should the shit hit the fan. On that note, he lacks enough stamina to take alot of punishment in a fight, which proves troublesome in an engagement with multiple attackers, especially if the fight goes to the ground. He is also more likely to run from a fight than to stick around, regardless of whether it's important or not. Equipment You Have: CV-770ZXII Planar Combat Visor (basically, the glasses-looking eyewear he has in the picture). This visor gives him the ability to switch sight (or display simultaneously) both dimensions, regardless of which one he's actually in (this helps in navigation, or tracking a target from a dark jump so as to place himself in a good surprise attack position). Other than the flashy appearence, they also provide 100% UVA/UVB protection for even the most sensitive of eyes, and very slight ballistics protection, due to the build and construction of the material. Personality Description: While indeed identifying with a rather "dark nature", this descriptor is more of a generic term encompassing all of the negative or neutral qualities of Junpei. First and foremost, his behavior depends on the situation at hand, but for the fair majority of his consciousness, he can be described as amoral, inquisitive, and indifferent. Of course, individually, these things might not seem very bad, but together, they create a combination of things that are intensly negative. Within himself, Junpei also possesses major conflict. His immorality and indifference is an external condition, that which he chooses for people to see and judge him by, while being inquisitive is an internal condition determined by his inner desire to find reason and justification for everything that occurs around him. This latter bit can be seen in his calm, often polite performances of character around certain individuals, which, again, depends on the situation. The latter condition, as described above, is also an outlet for an inherent flaw (and a majority of the conflicting personality) within him. This flaw is the fact that Junpei is actually a deeply, deeply sensitive person. Every action weighs heavily upon his conscience, regardless of how he justifies them. He is very attentive to what people say, and how he thinks they precieve him (in other words, he cares about what people think, despite whether he wants to or not). The origin of this will be explained in his character history below. Interest/hobby-wise, Junpei is absolutely fascinated by DJ'ing, which he does from time to time at various club venues. Though his music creation skill mostly encompasses electronic elements, he tends to like any type of song with heavy, skillful instrumentation, whether live or synthetic. He likes hearing people sing, even though he doesn't attempt to do it himself. He also likes it when people dance, though he seldom does it himself (he's pretty good, actually). He also likes seeing people happy with themselves, or doing something helpful to another person, along with acting with sincerity. Personal History: The Junpei as he is today stems from his life beginning after he turned 15 (conflict-wise). Before then, he grew up in a rather stable home, minus the fact that his parents had divorced. This is important to know because it details how he became such a sensitive person. Born in Osaka to a father who was a JASDF airman and a mother who was a secondary-school teacher, Junpei was often able to travel various parts of the globe, because of his dad's profession and his mother's international license. The majority of his time was spent in japan before he turned 15, however. During that year, his dad was stationed in the United States, to undergo job-specific training. This strained relations with his mom, who was unable to accompany him (he had to stay with his mother in Osaka). His dad, personality-wise, wasn't exactly the greatest kind of father, and was often flirtatious with women, especially on overseas endeavors. This time was no exception, and one night, Junpei's mother had found out her husband was cheating. A few bitter months later, she divorced him. This effectively led to a custody battle, which was a bit one-sided, since the mother could take better care of him in the eyes of the court (as an airman, his dad didn't make very much money, and couldn't raise a son very well overseas). His mother won custody soon after, but the father was granted special visitation rights, due to a certain legal obligation that the Japanese courts felt was an American legal system intervention. For half of each year, Junpei was told he'd have to go live with his father, and special arrangements were made (his father had finished service a month prior to the determination of custody, which had to go back to the court in order to be accounted for). This also took a bit of a toll on Junpei's education, since he was essentially going in and out of schools. Needless to say, both parents tried to convince their son that the other was a bad person. Junpei tended to side with his mother on the matter, but this did nothing more than create even more friction between him and his parents. Life in the U.S. was a bit more lax for Junpei, and he found that he could do alot more things here than he could in Japan (his father used this to his advantage). It was also here that Junpei earned his American nickname, JP, which he still uses around his friends in Japan. Over time, the situation began to irritate Junpei more and more. He felt disgust with both his parents for their childish behavior, totally oblivious to his needs and wants. In both countries, he became rebellious, and acted out constantly. Even then, his parents refused to come together to discipline their son. His mother (who had moved to Hyakuji in order to forget about Osaka) took to alchohol, and his father remarried to an American (whom Junpei neither liked nor disliked). By the age of 17, Junpei had begun to give up on education, relying mostly on self-education as a means to develop himself. He found interest in althetics, and would often be seen in various parks practicing on things such as freerunning and martial arts. Without intervention, he began to effectively live on his own (within his mother's house, of course), working part time at club venues as a DJ (he was trained on Piano at 8, and continued to play even now). It was here that he found interest in DJ'ing, and music instrumentation. The more his skill increased, the more money he earned. This effectively led to vanity and self-depreciation, since he had no real outlet for the problems with his parents. Because his father had become more and more distant (he wouldn't visit for the entire 6 months now), Junpei developed a sensitivity to how people acted, and treated him. This affected his musical capability, and he began to become more and more bitter and cold. It was then that he began to work part-time (often skipping school) at odd-jobs. At first, these were generally innocent, such as retrieving food from the store for disabled, and the like. But soon, it became things like theft, vandalism, mugging...and soon enough, contract killing. Junpei found he had a knack for taking life. He felt that by killing, he could satiate the hatred in his heart, borne by the lack of care and understanding from others. He could make others pay for their mistakes, instead of allowing them to escape from them. It was about then that he discovered he had the ability to switch between the world as we know it (light) and the opposite (dark), just slightly before the world merger of Hyakuji took place (along with the invasion of the Heartless). Although initially curious about his newfound ability, he quickly got over the interest in it, and merely began incorporating it into his daily taskings, such as murder and sabotage. This is effectively what made him a valuable member of the darkness, though he actually denies siding with any group in particular (completing jobs for them is merely a contractual obligation). The world merger worked in his favor, of course, allowing him to expand his role while slowly bogging himself down emotionally (he purchased the combat visor he wears now using the currency he'd been saving right before enrolling into the high school. It's interesting to note that the device itself is composed of EXE and Shambala technology testing, with obvious design references from Junpei's input). Of course, by now, the conflict within him had reached a head. Though he kept about his normal activities, he was slowly growing more and more unable to reason them. Though bad, his conscience was arguably the only thing in him (along with his sensitivity), that had kept him from completely falling under the Heartless influence. It was as though he was not truly corrupted, but rather, just lost and confused. He had moments where dark activities seemed justified to him, and other moments where it would be the exact opposite. Neither light nor dark drew total appeal to him. And so, for the time being, Junpei means to keep going, not quite lost, but not quite found. Mashed Potatoes? There is no spoon.
