A dark corridor opened up on the rooftop of one of the Dark Realm's buildings. Thifax stepped out of it, a frown on her face as she walked over to the edge and looked down. Height was no longer something that scared her--not in this form--but even so, she had to fight against the urge to step back as she stood there and surveyed the area. No wind stirred in the Dark Realm. It should have been hot, beneath the red sky at broad daylight, but it wasn't. What it was, and what it shouldn't have been, was quiet. Thifax had spent a good amount of time in the Dark Realm. It was one of the places where she found it easy to think and to plan. It was quieter than the Castle, but it had never been truly devoid of activity. It had never been like this. This was quiet, almost eerily so. No demons prowled the streets this time. None of them lurked in the corners. There was no life at all in the area around her...not that she could see. And she understood now why Kinclex had called her here. She was aware, as were most of the Nobodies that cared to pay attention, that the Dark Realm existed as a bridge between the Perfect World and the demon realm known as the Makai. She could think of no better place for Heartless to grow and to build, because their were no Hearts here, but there was darkness. There was quite a lot of it. If there was something in the area that was big enough to drive the demons away, then Kinclex had been right when he said that there was a major Heartless disturbance. That had been the first time she had spoken to him since he had asked her for the Heart back. He had placed it into her safekeeping not too long ago and had reclaimed it just a few days before this. Balls of fire suddenly surrounded her, hovering in the air in a circle around her. She didn't say a word, but they spread out through the streets anyway, searching, looking. And they would report. She frowned and looked around to see if Kinclex had followed her into the Dark Realm. "I see what you mean," she said when he finally arrived. "I'm looking for the disturbance now." |

Another dark corridor opened up behind Thifax shortly after, and a tall masculine, hooded figure stepped out. Slowly raising his hands up, Kinclex pulled the hood down and shook his long hair loose. The red sky had stained himself and Thifax black and maroon. Even so, his blue eyes looked out of the desolate world. He had spoken to Thifax before about coming to this realm, to investigate any possible Heartless nests that may have formed. Judging by her response, he hadn't been too far off. Even demons and devils had hearts, and although they were sparse in here, that didn't mean that the Heartless couldn't find a stray imp somewhere to feast on. "The heartless are around here, we just need to see what we're dealing with. Seeing as you've been here more than others, I chose you specifically for this mission. Besides, your powers should be more than enough to take on a couple Heartless hordes, no?" Kinclex had researchd the realm since having come here the last time to speak with Thifax. It was an ideal place for a Heartless to grow. The problem with this was that if the Heartless ever got out of the realm, their masses might be too much for the Lightwielders. Yet, the reverse could also happen and the Lightweilders could get here first to get the Heartless before they spill over. Who could tell. "Ah Thifax, I want to say, before we get down to business, the Heart is magnificent. I don't know what you did to it while it was in yoru care, but has truely flourished. Thank you." Kinclex grinned slightly. |

The Dark Realm. From the general lore Lavender had gathered of this mostly unpleasant dimension it served as a buffer zone between the Perfect World and the Makai. The closest parallel the aeromancer could draw was that the Dark Realm is probably a transitory plane, a realm that connects other planes together - much like the Plane of Shadow, Astral Plane or Ethereal Plane. So much for geekdom, for this one is the real thing, and even the Arcadian leader needed a moment of focus to shake off the foreboding feeling she'd received as the Arc Angel made the transit between worlds, going into a hover above the insertion point. The amethyst-haired aeromancer checked her PDA, going over the mission details once more before conducting the briefing. "Okay, listen up boys and girls," Lavender addressed the Arcadians present - unlike normal missions, due to the high-risk nature of this one she'd chosen only the most elite of the Arcadians to participate in this operation, the Arcadians with the . "Based on the intelligence reports we received, we have a tip-off on a major Heartless stronghold located in this realm." Quite reasonably, being a land shrouded in perpetual darkness this was an ideal place to harbor Heartless where they can consolidate their forces. "The reports suggest that a sizeable percentage of the Heartless that are created in the multiverse go here, possibly as part of a plan to consolidate their numbers... to build up sufficient forces. It is strongholds like these that explain why they can experience a rise in activity every now and then, enough to cause emergency situations like the ones we've handled frequently enough." Lavender paused briefly to see if any of them were following her. "For a change, this is an offensive operation against the Heartless - this time we're taking the fight to them." Lavender paused for a moment as she ran an equipment check, loading a fresh magazine into her MP7A1 and cocking her USP compact. "As you can understand, this isn't going to be a simple mission by any stretch of the imagination - so this is why out of everyone in the ranks of Arcadia, I have hand-picked you specifically for this operation. So, any questions or concerns you may have at this point?" Lavender asked as they neared the insertion point. If this mission were successful, she figured they might actually put a dent in the Heartless' strength for once and diminish their capability, but first, the group will need to get organized.

He'd been handpicked. That was a bit surprising but well... Alright. He was ready to do this then. The black coat was already pulled onto her. Erin took a breath. Yeah... This'll go just fine. He had to convince himself of that sort of thing before they went. Erin balled and opened his hands nervously. "So we're attacking them at their base..." It wasn't a question. Erin was just talking to himself. He forced a grin. Yeah, just fine. They would be there soon. "Well, as close as they get to a base." They'd strike them at home and take out a chunk of them. Yeah, it sounded pretty good to him. He put his hands in his pockets. He hadn't brought many of his things with him. They were gonna fight. He was scared but he was trying to convince himself that he wasn't. He kept the grin on his face. I just need to go and not think too much. He didn't die last time so maybe he was just getting better. He wasn't going to be afraid. "Why are there a lot of them there?" He was just curious. It might have been powering them up or something and Erin didn't really want to know that.. Edited by Kaloo, Feb 5 2010, 08:24 PM.

"Erin... You've been forced to retreat many times..." Am I even...going to do anything...? "I want to know...tell me... "It would probably be better ...do you have the will to fight?" "Listen, for me to just not go down there..." I'm not here to reprimand you. I want to give you something of mine." "I would hold everyone back more than I would help." "Something that helped me Why was I picked? find the strength to battle." "Right now I think the one who needs it's strength most is our fighter with the strongest heart." Don't pick me. Your only weakness is your lack of faith in yourself... Don't tell me that. That just makes me look...really stupid... "Maybe Lower wind speed to 0 meters per second. this can Collect air around a single point. give you Stabilize air in spherical form. strength Target enemy. to build that." Release air in controlled direction. "If you have the resolve to fight then.." "I have the power... Who was it... to protect Hyakuji...!!!" that said that...? Was it really me? "After all, you're our defensive pilot right? That kind of courage... And the best defense is a good offense!" How do they pull it up at will like that? "We'll kick his ass in one blow!" How many heartless have I destroyed? I helped in the fight against Zorc! How many enemies have I defeated? I really did! I helped! None. Assists count! Is assisting all I can do? The keyblade chose me! What does it see in me? Your only weakness is your lack of faith in yourself... Is that really all there is? With the Hyakuzor I could help, but... Am I really stronger than I think I am? "Erin, stay low and remain still!" "I can't...get up...?" "Arcadia, Erin is down!" "Oh...I'm..." "We have a team member down and in need of extraction! Provide cover!" "Come on girl, you've got to pull through!" "Check on Erin, get her somewhere safe..." I don't want that to happen again. Isn't the risk worth it? I want to help don't I? Is it really worth it? It was worth it at Shinya wasn't it? It was worth it at the fake Hyakuji wasn't it? I was only that strong because of Hyakuzor. Quit feeling sorry for yourself and fight! It's not that simple. You could be just like the strong people if you just tried! It's not that simple!! You've done it before! IT'S NOT THAT SIMPLE!!! What are you going to do? I don't know. What do you want to do? I don't know. You don't know? What do I do? What do I do? What do I do? What do I do? do I do What DO I what WHAT do? WHAT do I what do I What do I do? WHAT DO I DO? I don't know. Edited by Erin, Feb 6 2010, 02:49 AM.

Jameson was wearing his typical outfit. No longer in his Ixa uniform, he had reverted to the older one. Long black coat that hung to his ankles. Thick military boots strapped up just short of his knees. Gloves designed to reduce the impact of punching things in their faces. A white t-shirt tucked into black pants. A cocky grin and one eyepatch on his right eye. He limped forward, leaning on his cane. His knee still hurt like hell from all the fighting recently but he had no time to let being crippled slow him down. As they approached the area and Lavender started talking he took a seat and massaged his knee one more time before the fight. After this he reached into his coat taking out several pills and tossing them down his throat. Sometimes it sucked having old battle injuries. Not to mention the fact his brain kept having these little aneurysms. Enh, oh well. You only live once. Jameson stood and took his cane up and tossed it in a sling over his back. Push comes to shove he could hit things on the head with it. Or, more likely, use it help limp away from this battle after he kicked all these little imp-bastards' asses. However he did stop for a moment before saying anything. He felt Erin's uncertainty. He could feel the turmoil within. He shifted a bit moving to her side. He glanced away, speaking in a low breath. "Er.. Listen.. I know I'm kind of throwing you in the deep end.. and I can't make your big life altering decisions for you.. But, if you need to bail or can't handle it, we're all here to help." "I have confidence you can and will be a great help to us. If it's not here it's somewhere else. Until you figure things out just go with the flow and rely on us if you wind up in over your head. I'm not coddling you, I'm offering you the support I was never given.. I tried to go it alone and lost my right eye.. I won't let you suffer a similar fate." He smiled a bit before turning to Lavender. "Alright, I'll provide cover for us with my barrier, we'll punch right in... However we need to do this in a way where they can't continually reinforce their numbers.. Do we know of any way to isolate smaller groups or to prevent reinforcements?" |

This world made him uneasy. Damon was a being of darkness now. Yet, being here, in this darkness, it felt overwhelming. The darkness here was not the same as the one in traverse town. This was hungry. This was malevolent. This wanted them all to die. wanted them all to become food. He felt it above all else. He could almost feel it eating away at his very being. ...He couldn't keep this up. He used the light from within to change his form into that of light, unable to keep handling that oppressing feeling. The light didn't feel much better, but at least it didn't feel like he was going to be eaten alive. He looked to the other Arcadians. He heard one ask why there were a lot of them here. "It's probably the darkness, It's immense here. Consuming. It's calling out, hungering. It wants hearts to make into more heartless, and it keeps calling out. It just keeps calling out..." He said, before shaking himself out of it. Everything was alright. He wasn't in any more danger than normal. The darkness wasn't going to rip him apart and feast on his soul. Still, beneath the hooded cloak he always wore, his claws were shaking. |

Thifax shrugged her shoulders, not turning around to face Kinclex. "I did nothing. I simply held onto it for you." She scanned the area directly below her again as if looking for any clues. Nothing. Nothing stirred. As far as she was concerned, there was nothing. She waited in silence as three orbs of fire floated up to her, closing her eyes as she absorbed the flames. Sights, sounds, and feelings rushed through her as if they had been her own, and when Thifax opened her eyes her expression was pensive. "You were correct," she said, finally. "The disturbance seems to be located due east of us. Unfortunately, none of the fireballs I sent got close enough to get a complete picture. Those that did were quickly eliminated." She didn't need to say what hung in the air after those words. Mere Shadows would not be able to thoroughly destroy her flames. Something more than that lurked here, but what it was could not be seen yet. She watched as a fourth fireball appeared, landing on her outstretched palm. Thifax closed her eyes as it too presented its findings. A ship flying through the still air...it was the only movement for miles besides the anomaly. As she opened her eyes again, Thifax decided that it was very very fortunate that she could not feel or display shock. "Hmm..." she said, "It appears we aren't the only ones to have noticed something strange here. Arcadia's arrived." It wasn't too surprising. Arcadia had a knack for finding things that were out of order. She stretched her hand out to the side, a dark portal opening up beside them. "Shall we go?" she asked Kinclex. If the Arcadians were using instruments to pinpoint the exact area of the disturbance, they would be led towards an area of the Dark Realm. Upon landing, though, they would find absolutely nothing. No Heartless, no demons, not even any wind. The only sound in that area of the dark city would be the sound that they carried with them. A disconcerting prospect, to say the least. |

Kinclex looked towards the east where the Heartless had been located and wondered how soon it would come into contact with the Arcadian forces. More to the point, how would it come in contact with the Arcadian forces. He suppressed a grin. Only time would tell and if he knew Heartless, then it wasn’t likely that this one would be sitting around and waiting. “Yes, let’s go see how this plays out.” Aside from observing the Heartless, Kinclex had come to this realm to confirm several uncertain variables. With that, Kinclex stepped past Thifax and entered the portal, waiting for her inside to ensure that it was closed. Meanwhile, a set of yellow eyes were carefully watching the Arc Angel. It was hovering and not landing just yet, but that wouldn’t matter. There were hearts on board. Strong hearts. And she wouldn’t have it any other way. All her life, she had sought out strength, all her life she had trained to become stronger. Only now, this thirst for power was coupled with an insatiable hunger. She couldn’t remember much of her past life now, or why she was suddenly so hungry, but that man had showed her, that hearts made the hunger go away for a while at least. It was a wonderful sensation, it was almost describable as orgasmic. The yellow eyes then narrowed to cat-like slits as a gigantic pillar of earth rose up towards the Arc Angel, a humungous spike that aimed to impale the ship and hopefully one of the strong hearts on board. She waited, down on the ground, wondering if it would work. She’d never needed to hunt in the sky before, but that had never stopped her. She did not notice a black portal open on the rooftop nearby her as she eyed the sky. Had it been someone with a heart, their scent would have been drawing her attention immediately. However, Kinclex and Thifax were lucky enough to not have one. Closing the dark portal after Thifax got out, Kinclex whistled, only audible to himself and Thifax. “Well, seems the Heartless are elevating their standards a bit when it comes to appearance, dontcha think?” ![]() The Heartless was the spitting image of a once well known Hyakujian, Mayu Kagono. Beautiful, deadly and rich. A vixen on incomparable magnitude. Only now, apparently lost to darkness. Yet even in this state, the Heartless had mimicked almost everything about her to the letter. The long, black katana, Axe-Breaker, was held firmly in her grip. The sword was Mayu’s trademark in Hyakuji before it was ripped apart. Now, it was a tool use to sever the hearts from those who still had them.

Lavender allowed everyone on board a moment of silence, some time to collect their thoughts and 'get psyched', so to speak. Given the gravity of this mission, the aeromancer could understand everyone's tension. Lavender smiled slightly and nodded at Jameson's words of encouragement to Erin. The younger aeromancer was probably at a point many Espers had been in their lives - knowing of the power they possess, but unsure of what to do with it. Jameson saw something special in that girl, and so did Lavender, for her to be one of those specially selected as part of the Arcadian crack team for this mission. Perhaps it was how she fearlessly tried her best to do the right thing in spite of her own limitations. "If you desire, I can train you in aeromancy and combat," Lavender offered, patting the younger aeromancer on the shoulder before turning her attention back to Jameson. "Alright, I'll provide cover for us with my barrier, we'll punch right in... However we need to do this in a way where they can't continually reinforce their numbers.. Do we know of any way to isolate smaller groups or to prevent reinforcements?" "Well, as we've learned by now, some of the stronger Heartless are capable of either healing their own or summoning weaker Heartless in the field of battle. Obviously, these should be our priority targets when engaging Heartless forces. Also, the last operation in Niwa also showed us some Heartless are capable of merging when present in large numbers into a stronger composite form, which is apparently capable of regenerating itself as long as its 'component' Heartless are around - another viable tactic when faced with such types of Heartless is to focus your attacks on it. Even if you can't destroy it with one shot it'll be forced to call upon the smaller Heartless to merge with it to heal itself, this works to keep their numbers manageable and prevent them from using swarm tactics against us. Better to face one strong enemy, than a horde of weak enemies," Lavender briefed the team on the possible tactics they could employ to prevent the Heartless from taking advantage of their numerical superiority, and in this place that is an advantage they clearly held in the spades. "All right Jameson, prepare the Arc Angel for landing-" Lavender's words were cut short as the Arc Angel rocked violently. "What in deuces was that!?" The amethyst-haired aeromancer hissed as she held onto a handrail to stabilize herself, while klaxons blared their warning. "The Arc Angel's under attack!" A GLADIUS agent on the navigator's seat shouted. "It came from right below us!" "Well, whaddya know..." Lavender commented as she grabbed her MP7A1 by its sling and hung it over her right shoulder. "It seems like the Heartless have sent us a welcoming party! What's the enemy strength?" she asked as she released the submachine gun's safety. "One, ma'am," the GLADIUS agent replied. "Just one." "Another champion-grade Heartless no doubt," Lavender muttered. "Anyways, it's obvious that whoever is down there is trying to finish us in one shot by bringing down the ship." Lavender looked at Jameson. "Jameson! I'm going down there first to keep whoever is trying to bring the Arc Angel down busy so that you can safely land the ship. Damon, I want you to come with me as part of the advance party to cover the Arc Angel's landing. Rest of you, take orders from Jameson until then. Now go!" That being said, Lavender reached for a nearby emergency release switch and opened a side hatch, jumping out of the Arc Angel, slowing her fall using her aeromancy. "What the..." Lavender gasped as her target came into view - the target appeared to be an attractive young woman, who appeared human save for her marble-like complexion and yellow eyes. If Lavender hadn't noticed the Heartless emblem worn as a pendant around the girl's neck she'd never believed that was a Heartless! But no matter... "You're going down!" Lavender shouted as she spun around in midair, unleashing two light-infused Saber Gusts at Mayu Kogano, the luminescent blades of wind spinning like boomerangs as they made an arcing flight path towards their target! |

Damon stayed in his seat as Lavender began a small lecture on the data that had been building up on the heartless. Simple enough, really. Large ones called in small ones. They could eat small ones to restore. So, take out big ones, while making sure not too many small ones appears. Really this was simple enough. As Lavender gave the order for the ship to land, though, the entire ship rocked with violent force. His heard perked up. Lavender called out for a situation report. Apparently just one heartless was doing this. Well, this was going to be 'fun.' Lavender issued the orders. Apparently he was going down with her to cover the ship's landing. Simple enough. "Yes Ma'am." He said, with a simple nod. He moved to the emergency air hatch, gripping onto the sides of his cloak. He was going to try something he'd practiced, but never put into action on the battlefield. He leaped out along with Lavender, using the cloak as a sort of parachute. Since his body weighed nothing, this meant he was able to glide down fairly easily. It was better than jumping out and landing on the ground and hurting his legs badly. He threw off the cloak as he neared the ground, knowing full well the thing would just hinder him here. So this was their foe. A fairly humanoid heartless. And with a weapon. Why was it that so many heartless were wielding weapons nowadays? Well no matter. It was fighting time. Damon saw Lavender get ready to make an attack of her own, and knew he'd better get a quick slash in. He didn't want to be hit by Lavender's attack, friendly fire was very often a bad, bad thing. He charged at the feminine heartless, light claws outstretched. He made a quick slash as her midsection, before dashing past her. Hopefully the blow would have connected, but even if they didn't, they'd leave the girl on guard on from melee attacks. There were going to be projectile-like ones from Lavender, so there was a good chance the two opposing styles might just keep the heartless guessing. |

Erin wold just have to be ready. He looked at the group. That girl, the other Erin, was here too and it looked like Jameson was looking out for her. That was good. Everything seemed to be going as well as one could hope so far. He took a breath as it was explained to him that the enemy was focused here because of darkness. That made sense. "Yessir," slurred Erin as Lavender relayed the orders. He sat back in his seat and closed his eyes for a moment. Just gonna have to be ready then. He just had to stay here until they landed. He opened his eyes. Yeah, he was fairly calm. He was a bit on edge but he wasn't going to panic. |

"Orders...?" Jameson said with a click of his tongue. "Shit like that pisses me off...!" He grinned broadly towards the others. "There's not much I can do in the way of orders... Fight to the limit of your ability.. And don't worry about enemies behind you.." He pressed his thumb to his chest. "I'll protect your backs! So face forward and kick their asses!" Jameson said with a nod. "When you feel like you've done everything you can.." "It's okay to retreat! If there's an order it's this.. Live! Live on, don't let your lives end meaninglessly..! Leave the battles with no chance of victory to us who never change.. But for you all who have a future ahead.. Live!" He turned ahead. "This is just a chapter in the story of your lives.. It's not an ending, so there's no meaning in it if you die here.." He nodded. "I'll protect you all, but when you can't fight anymore then retreat. That's the gist of it. Anything else will have to be decided on the battlefield." He turned the Arc Angel moving towards a surface that was as flat as possible. "This will be the retreat zone.." He opened a portal there before opening the cockpit. He hopped out and formed a sword around his arm. "Now we know where the wall is that we're backed up against.. From here we'll push forward.." He moved towards the others at a quick jog. Now was no time to lag behind. He ignored the pain of his knee and his body. He had pushed himself to his limit too often lately. Everything was breaking down. But he wasn't dead yet. He'd keep pushing until he couldn't. |

Now, let's play together...under the clearest of blue skies.
|
When it was just a mass of shadow, it was easy to feel that you can win. When the form of the enemy is uncertain, in your mind you can easily construe it to be weaker than it actually is, and gain confidence that you couldn't have otherwise. But this enemy had a definite form. A terrifying form. On top of that, Erin didn't know enough about swords to tell if the Keyblade could be a match for the Axe-Breaker. But everyone else was willing to fight. What do they have that I don't? "...How does it work?" "Heh! We'll worry about that next time!" They don't think ahead. "After all, you're our defensive pilot right? And the best defense is a good offense! We'll kick his ass in one blow!" They're overconfident. "UOOOOOOH! BREAK THROUGH!" They seem to win just by believing that they will. It doesn't make any sense. But they don't seem to care. I think I understand now. What Jameson said... Your only weakness is your lack of faith in yourself... I've been paying too much attention to the things that made me weak. I didn't realize I also had things that made me strong. They all have things that make them weak too, I'm sure. But instead of dwelling on them, they just press through them... Erin's keyblade hummed. It sought out a wielder with a strong heart, and saw the heart that she herself didn't see. Mayu was still there in front of her. The keyblade exists as an anathema to the heartless. So as long as Mayu is a heartless and Erin has a keyblade, Erin should win. It's a bit oversimplified. But the girl ignores that. The Necklace of Wind breathes. Grasping the keyblade, Erin runs to the battle... Edited by Erin, Feb 14 2010, 03:44 PM.

The portal, of course, opened onto the roof of another building. The buildings in the Dark Realm all looked the same. Like a generic big city. She thought it might be Tokyo. It would make sense if it was because The Perfect World was Tokyo. She stepped onto the roof and followed Kinclex, looking down as the Arc Angel entered the scene. She was thankful once again for her lack of emotion. Her expression, such as it was, was perfectly schooled. As it would have to be if she were to remain hidden. Her eyes fixed on the Heartless as it entered the scene, a frown appearing on her face as she searched through her memories. The girl, she did not know. She might have seen her at school before, but she had never found reason to talk to her. The sword, though, she had heard rumors about. And if it was the same sword and the same wielder, then she should have been glad that she had never had a reason to interact with her. Mayu Kogano. She glanced at Kinclex, her expression unchanged. She wasn't so complacent or so stupid that she forgot Kinclex's experiment in the castle and the Heartless he created. That Heartless had been made from a Heart. It also had human form. If she was suspicious, though, nothing showed on her expression. "Kinclex," she murmured, her tone so neutral that she could have been discussing the weather. "Whose Heart did you entrust to me?" |
