In space, no one can hear you scream...

Star giggled at the thought, pressing her face towards the glass of the window so that she could see the outside better. She had always wanted to go to space, minus the whole eating out of a tube and going to the bathroom in your spacesuit type thing. What better opportunity was there than to make use of the multi-verse and the Crossgates?

She wondered if they really wouldn't be able to hear her if she screamed, but decided against testing it. The last thing she wanted was to cause trouble, especially when she told Meglumar she'd only be in First District today.

Whoops, she thought with a giggle. My bad. But really after that whole thing with Arcadia and people not telling her anything even when it involved, well, you know, her life, she wasn't exactly inclined to play by their rules. Meglumar would forgive her, and as for everyone else, well, really, who cared?

So let's see what there is to see... said Star with a smile as she set off to explore the Space Station.

Jen didn't know why, but somehow space reminded her of Swan Lake, which happened to be the track currently on her MP3 player as the purple-haired girl wandered down the hallways of the space station. Sure, Jen knew from her father that while Frostfire Industries was one of the corporations involved in the International Space Station program, neither herself nor her father had actually been on a space station before.

Of course, this one was a product of technology far more advanced than what her world was capable of, and the complexity of the engineering processes responsible for this space station impressed the technophile that is Jen. After wandering around a good deal, Jen soon realized that this place was a stop for leisure purposes - there were hotels, shopping malls, restaurants, arcades and the rest of the works.

"Well I'll be!" Jen exclaimed, a smile forming on her lips as she noticed a familiar face in the distance - she'd seen that face before, recalling the karaoke night event at Traverse Town; wasn't that the blond-haired girl who hosted the whole thing? Sneaking up from behind Star, the purple-haired girl gave her blond counterpart a hearty pat on the right shoulder. "Hey! It's been a while!" Jen called out cheerfully, before suddenly chuckling nervously.

"Excuse me but... I didn't think I caught your name during that night at Traverse Town." The face was familiar, but Jen didn't think she caught the photomancer's name that day, while her name was announced publicly by Star, like all those who went to sing on the stage. Of course, she wondered if Star actually remembered her name.

As Star began to walk further into the space station, the scenery around her transformed into...something that she was more used to. Her natural habitat, if you will. Her eyes widened slightly as a smile spread on her face. A SHOPPING space station! she thought, wondering what sort of currency they accepted or what kind of clothes they sold there. It was really too bad that she was broke. If she was back home, she would have found a way, either by using her allowance or giving J the puppy dog eyes until he caved.

She looked up when she heard someone call her name, turning around and facing the person. Purple hair...where had she seen that person before? It hit her just as the girl mentioned it. The karaoke night at Traverse Town! Star's face broke into a smile as the girl approached her. "Hey!" said Star. "It's...Jennifer, right? My name's Salvatrice Tatiana Annalisa Rosabella Ricci, but for obvious reasons, you can call me Star."

She giggled a bit, the way she always did when she had to introduce herself by way of her overly long name. It was the only way she could get her nickname to make sense, though. "So, what are you up to?" she asked.

"Hey! It's...Jennifer, right? My name's Salvatrice Tatiana Annalisa Rosabella Ricci, but for obvious reasons, you can call me Star." So the blond girl did recall her name! And Jen was somewhat astonished by the length of her name - but she immediately realized that Star was indeed what you'd get if you form an acronym using her first names.

"Aye, it's Jennifer all right," the purple-haired girl replied, leaning her weight slightly to her right foot and resting a hand on her hip. "But you can call me Jen!" Jen's smile widened into a sugary grin as she gave Star a thumbs up. It was clear that the two girls resonate at the same frequencies.

"So, what are you up to?" Star asked.

"Well, good question," Jen replied, resting her chin on her left hand and her right hand holding onto her left elbow in a stance that suggests deep thought. "I sorta wandered into here by chance," Jen replied. "I believed that somewhere out there, there must be crossgate that would allow me to find my way home."

"But..." Jen continued. "Before that happens, I guess I'll just make the best of it and explore the multiverse!" Jen declared jubilantly as she whirled around to face a window, pointing out at the star-filled void of space outside.

"Ooh, yeah, one of the "find my way home" types," said Star with a slight giggle. "That's kinda my end goal too. My world's not really part of this whole Heartless thing though, so I don't think there's a Crossgate." In the meantime, she would just be here, beating up Heartless and...occasionally saving a world or two. And collecting scars. Hero work wasn't as fun as the books made it out to be.

Star grinned and looked out the window, gesturing at it with a grand, sweeping arm movement of her own. "Space!" said Star, "I know, right? It's awesome! They don't do this stuff on my world." She liked this Space Station. It combined two of her favorite things, shopping and astronomy! And since everything was solar powered, she could...in theory use photomancy here.

Let's hope she never had to practice that, because a fight in a floating bubble would be very very bad. "But, hey, good luck with your whole Crossgate thing."

"Ooh, yeah, one of the "find my way home" types," Star giggled slightly. That certainly got Jen's interest. "That's kinda my end goal too. My world's not really part of this whole Heartless thing though, so I don't think there's a Crossgate." The blond girl continued. Jen couldn't help but smile affirmatively at that one - they were pretty much in the same boat, having arrived in the multiverse under similar circumstances.

Jen giggled at the way Star acted, returning the blond girl's sunny grin with a million-dollar smile of her own.

"It sure is awesome - I mean, spaceships, mechas and lightsabers! Who knows, we may even find some aliens while we're at it too!" Jen replied. "Of course, not those aliens," the purple-haired girl chuckled as she used her hands to mimic the aliens from the movie Aliens.

"But, hey, good luck with your whole Crossgate thing." Jen glowed at Star's encouraging statement.

"Well, neither was my world part of the Heartless thingy," Jen replied. She'd never heard of the Heartless until she arrived in Traverse Town. The purple-haired girl's smile faded slightly when Star mentioned that it was highly unlikely that there was a Crossgate leading back to her own world. "Well, don't give up," Jen replied. "If you managed to find a way in, there must be a way out. Perhaps technology may provide an answer; or perhaps magic might..." Jen's tone changed upon the mention of magic, but then that was Jennifer Chase - a girl of science who had a hard time accepting what she cannot make sense of.

Star gave Jen a nervous smile, scratching the back of her head. "Well...you see...how I got in is kinda a long story," said Star, "Let's just say...I won't be messing around with half-science, half-magic, billion dollar teleportation systems anytime soon..." She let out a nervous giggle. "...It was kinda an accident, though, and I don't even know if there's a way back or not. But I hope it's not just a one-way deal, I've got family on the other side."

And people that were as good as family. And one light elemental that seriously owed her an explanation. Or two. Or three million. But just thinking about them was making her homesick. So on to happier subjects! Star decided that she liked Jen. They seemed like two of a kind, but Star could detect subtle differences. Especially the way Jen's tone changed when she talked about magic. Star was perfectly fine with magic and everything she didn't understand. In fact, she found it more interesting.

"I wanna check out one of those shops," said Star, inclining her head to the stores behind her. "Coming with?". She grinned and placed her hands on her hips as she waited for Jen's answer. It had been a long while since Star had had some girl time. Most of the time, it was dealing with Meglumar or practicing photomancy or fighting or doing boring stuff.

Jen stood attentively, as if awaiting an answer from Star as the blond girl scratched the back of her head, smiling nervously. Out of habit, the purple-haired girl already had her smart phone in one hand and stylus pen in another. "Well...you see...how I got in is kinda a long story," Star began. "Let's just say...I won't be messing around with half-science, half-magic, billion dollar teleportation systems anytime soon..." So it seemed they were indeed birds of the same feather. Jen had to admit that when it comes to curiosity Star and herself were pretty alike - although the purple-haired girl had the sense to not tamper with anything she couldn't figure out; but even then, she had to confess that the temptation can be overwhelming at times.

"...It was kinda an accident, though, and I don't even know if there's a way back or not. But I hope it's not just a one-way deal, I've got family on the other side." It was in this situation that Jen realized how fortunate she was - there are firstly those who lost their friends and family to the Heartless, then those who were lost with no way of returning home, and then there was herself - although lost, she still had her smart phone which for some reason was able to make and receive calls home.

"Perhaps... in order to find our way back the key lies in moving forward," Jen replied, resting her chin thoughtfully on her left hand. "Y'know, perhaps if there is a way this Heartless thing can be stopped and the worlds separated? Perhaps whatever power that can undo the damages can have the power to return us back home." The purple-haired girl had to admit that all too often, hope provides a power that defies logic and reason. Where the abilities of man are limited, the heart can make a difference and packs a power that is seemingly infinite.

"I wanna check out one of those shops," Star said as she tilted her head in the direction of a nearby shopping arcade. "Coming with?" the blond girl asked as she rested a hand on her hip, breaking into a grin. A change of subject at this point sounded like a good idea - and the only answer Star needed was an enthusiastic nod from Jen. About time too - the American figured it was about time she got for herself new sets of clothing anyhow.

"Well then, lead on!" Jen declared jubilantly.

"Already thought of that," said Star with a grin as she began walking towards the store. "It's partly the reason why Meglumar and I--Meglumar's like my best friend, by the way. I dragged him into this mess because I was trying to get him back to his home world but I seriously messed up--anyway, it's partly the reason why we're staying to fight the Heartless. And the other reason is because I'm too soft-hearted for my own good. Oh, and I really want a keyblade."

She giggled a bit at the last one. She knew she was in line to get one since she had kind of sensed the change that had given Meglumar light-enhanced water and seemed to work that way for everyone else except her. But there was probably a good reason for that, since light-enhanced-light would be completely redundant and probably stupid. Star entered the store and looked around, her grin growing wider.

The store she selected seemed to be focused on teenage girls, and the prices were in both the local currency and in munny, which Star found very very convenient. She let out a squee. "Welll, it looks like this store's multiverse compatible," she said, inwardly running down the calculations for how much money she could afford to spend out of the amount she had in her wallet. It wasn't much, but it was probably worth two cute tops or one cute bottom.

Maybe more, if this store allowed haggling. "You should totally try this on," she told Jen, passing her a cute coat. It was still winter in most of the worlds, after all.

"Already thought of that," Looking at Star's expression, Jen figured that the other girl had already decided on their first stop as she walked towards a nearby store.

"It's good to have planned things out beforehand," Jen nodded cheerfully as she followed next to Star. That certainly saves everyone the trouble of deciding where to go.

Oh, and I really want a keyblade." Jen giggled along with Star at the mention of wanting a keyblade - Jen hadn't really seen one herself, although her snooping skills had garnered her some information about how there were some who wielded weapons known as 'keyblades' and if the rumors were true, they had the power to undo the damage caused by the Heartless. Jen furrowed a brow at the thought - it was something she couldn't make sense of; and there are few things that worried her more than the lack of answers. Realizing rightly that dwelling on the subject isn't going to yield her any more answers than what she already had, the purple-haired girl decided to focus her thoughts on something more productive, and for the moment, that would be shopping!

Jen and Star entered the store, the blond girl's grin grew wider as they checked out what was on sale. First stop, clothing and accessories. A pretty sensible choice for girls. For the most part Jen let Star do the picking - the purple-haired girl didn't really have a good eye for fashion; with most of her outfits she'd chosen back home being mostly utilitarian in nature - chosen more for comfort and functionality over looks and style. On the other hand, Jen figured that Star probably had more refined tastes in clothing than herself.

"Welll, it looks like this store's multiverse compatible," Star said with a squee while Jen was looking through something more utilitarian, in particular at jeans and T-shirts. If it wasn't winter, then perhaps she may get something without sleeves... or maybe a change, she might get a skirt instead? Jen had never been much of a skirt person, but for all her practicality the monotony of her wardrobe was finally starting to get to her.

"Ah, that's handy indeed," Jen added as she inspected the price tag on a dress she picked off the rack. For the most part the purple-haired girl found work in Traverse Town by putting her technical skills to use - there were always stuff that need fixing in there; from electrical appliances to central heating. But as far as the denizens of Traverse Town went, Jen was paid for her services in munny - and it was a good thing to learn that munny was accepted in other worlds too. It would suck to find that whatever she'd earned in Traverse Town she couldn't spend anywhere else.

"You should totally try this on," Jen smiled as Star called out to her with a coat in her hands. The constant night sky and unchanging season of Traverse Town, along with all that world-hopping had made Jen forget that back home (and in other worlds like her own) it was the winter season! And certainly no winter season would be complete without winter clothes.

"Aye!" Jen replied as she took the coat from Star, slipping it over her clothing, adjusting it over her shoulders to test its fit, first looking at herself at a nearby full-length mirror (reference picture) before turning around to face Star, a sunny grin etched on her face. Y'know, I'm so buying this one!" The purple-haired girl commented. "I think I might have to take fashion advice from you in the future," she giggled.

Star grinned as Jen tried the coat on, offering her a thumbs-up. "You look great!" she said. "The price's been marked down too, so I'd say it's a bargain!" She didn't want to point out the fact that a lot of people had been uprooted thanks to the Heartless and were having some financial problems right now. She was certainly one of those people, and she didn't like it rubbed in her face every two seconds. Although her job at the arcade meant that she was surviving, at least, and she planned to guilt trip Damon into giving her a place to stay, one of these days.

It really helped that he knew something about herself that she didn't know. Although she was a little worried that if she did that, he would be able to restrict her more (thanks to whatever it was that he knew that she didn't). But, hey, she could think of several ways to drive him crazy if she tried. All of them were fun and most were legal! Oh, yeah, she was definitely going to have to talk to Meglumar about moving.

"So, yeah, anyway it's been a little difficult. I'm not really much of a fighter so it's been kinda tough adjusting." And I could do without the scars,, she added silently. She had more of those now than she had ever had before, even though they weren't all as noticeable as the claw marks on her shoulder. That had been kinda bad. Then again, Niwa as a whole wasn't really her favorite world.

She kinda liked this one, though.

"Oh, this is cute!" said Star, pulling a dress off the rack and holding it up to herself. She glanced at the mirror, tugging at it in places to see how it would fit on her body. "I gotta go try this on! Be right back!" With that, Star ran off to the fitting room. When she emerged a few moments later, she was wearing the dress. It fell to slightly below her knees, not too short and not too long either. It was a halter top, though, which meant that her back was exposed, and it was not something that she wanted to wear during the winter.

Still, for the summer...dressed up with a few accessories or just to wear to the beach with a pair of flip flops...yeah, she could definitely see that working. "What do you think?" she asked Jen.

"You look great!" Star's comment drew a chuckle from Jen. "The price's been marked down too, so I'd say it's a bargain!" The purple-haired girl nodded at what the blond one said - being ever the practical one, Jen has a talent when it comes for looking for retail outlets that offer the best in value for money. And a clearance sale is always a good thing! Besides, it's good to see Star liked the way she looked in that coat - fashion sense was hardly one of Jen's strong points. Perhaps, this meant she could finally get the boys to turn their heads - and not from being on the receiving end of a neckbreaker from her!

"Hehe, that's the first time I got a compliment for looking good," Jen replied as she twirled around her right foot like a ballerina, letting the coat flap around. Of course, it never really occurred to her to actually try and put in the effort to look good. "The discount the store is offering is certainly an added plus too." The purpe-haired girl commented as she slipped the coat off and draped it over her left shoulder - she was getting that one for sure.

"So, yeah, anyway it's been a little difficult. I'm not really much of a fighter so it's been kinda tough adjusting." Jen turned her attention from a pink satin dress to Star as she heard the blond girl, looking up at her.

"Yeah, I've been through a fracas or two myself... I wouldn't exactly consider myself an action hero, but I'm happy to teach people a thing or two about combat if they wanted to," Jen replied, putting the dress back on the hanger - dresses simply weren't her kind of thing. "It's the least I can do to help."

"Oh, this is cute!" Jen nodded approvingly as Star picked out a dress among the articles of clothing on sale, while the other girl stood in front of the mirror with the dress, fiddling with it, wondering how it would fit. "I gotta go try this on! Be right back!" Star said as she headed for a nearby fitting room to try it on, as Jen gave the blond girl an okay hand sign. As Star went off to try on her dress, Jen decided to browse through the store's selection of accessories, trying on a pair of shades while doing a MIB impression in front of the mirror.

"What do you think?" Star emerged a few moments later, wearing the dress she chose.

Jen pushed the shades down her nose, tilting her head slightly to look at Star while flashing the blond girl a grin. Slightly below knee length - not prudishly modest, but not revealingly short either, all in all considered pretty wholesome. Her old habits kicked in, as Jen began a rather scientific analysis. Halter necked - definitely not the thing for cold weather. Conclusion? It would certainly make for a chic summer dress - a perfect outfit for casual situations.

"A perfect match," Jen replied cheerfully, giving Star a thumbs up. Jen removed the shades she was trying on, placing it back on the glasses rack. "I think a pair of sandals would complete the look just nice too," Jen nodded. "Slightly-raised heels, and with straps that match the color of the dress... that would be perfect!" Inwardly, Jen glowed with pride - she had learned something new today, and boy was she quick to pick things up! But then again, she is Jennifer Chase!

Star placed a finger on her chin and tilted her head back as if she was considering it. She put the outfit together in her head, as per Jen's suggestions, adding in a beach in the background. Perfect! Now all she needed to do was find about twice as much sunshine and a tropical beach somewhere. And a lifeguard. A really...uh...well put together lifeguard. And maybe something alcoholic that she couldn't legally drink in this country.

She quickly shook her head before she could get lost in the fantasy and grinned at Jennifer. "That sounds perfect!" she said, "I'll start buying those when summer comes around then!" Hopefully when summer came around she'd be back on her high school on a tropical island, where she was free to lounge around the beach all she liked. She had even gotten a tan last summer, which was difficult for her, especially considering the fact that she didn't even need sunblock to go out into the sun.

She had never, not once, gotten a sunburn. It was one of the perks of being a photomancer. "Be right back!" she told Jennifer, running off to change into her normal clothes. After a while of waiting, Star jumped out of the rack of clothes behind Jennifer, reaching out and touching her lightly on the back. "Boo!" she said.

She seemed to have gotten lost on the way back and ended up in the accessories section, because she was wearing a scarf, shades, and a funny hat. The combination didn't exactly go together well, but it was hilarious. She giggled from behind Jen, covering her mouth as she laughed.

"That sounds perfect!" Star replied cheerfully, flashing Jen a grin. The purple-haired girl guessed that the blond one must've liked the mental image formed in her mind. "I'll start buying those when summer comes around then!"

"Oooh! I can't wait till summer too!" Jen added, jumping slightly for emphasis. Sun, sand, sea and skies! Beach trips and hanami!

"Be right back!" Jennifer nodded as Star went back to the fitting room while Jen waited, the purple-haired girl whistling the tune of Level 5 Judge Light while she waited for Star's return.

"Boo!"

"Whoa!" Jen exclaimed as she jumped back, almost bumping into another shopper as Star jumped out from behind a clothes rack, having changed back into the clothes she was wearing before, while Jen received a pissed-off glare from the shopper for the trouble. "Sorry about that!" Jen replied sheepishly, raising her left hand and wagging it.

"You..." Jen noticed that Star had snagged some accessories on her way out, with a scarf, hat and sunglasses that don't match. The purple-haired snickered as she tried to hold back her laughter, before giggling openly. Star joined in the laughter as well, as the blond girl giggled with her hand over her mouth. "Oh god, that reminds me of those poorly-matched avatars on Gaia Online I used to poke fun of!" Jen smacked her hand against her right leg, slowly regaining her composure.

"So, are you getting those?" Jen raised her brows playfully, referring to the unmatching shades/hat/scarf combo as she headed to the cashier with her coat - she was SO getting that one.

Star laughed, pulling down the star-shaped sunglasses she was wearing and looking at Jen over the rim, or in this case, points. "If any of those avatars was named ShootingStar727, we've met," she said with a grin. It was one of those things that Star had decided to try for fun, and as usual, once she had had her fun, she was done with them. She couldn't recall checking that account in years.

She hadn't really spent much time on the internet since the whole Heartless disaster. After all, considering most of her Facebook friends were in another dimension it was kind of hard. Frankly, it was also a little depressing, but Star tried very hard not to dwell on that. She tugged the scarf loose. It was beginning to choke her.

"Nah, but you know what, I think I'll take the scarf." She would have bought the whole ensemble and worn it to school or something, but she wasn't currently going to school and because of that, there wasn't really any need to be the class clown. Besides, the fashion-conscious part of Star wouldn't be caught dead in what she was currently wearing. Alive was another story, but the chances of being caught dead in it had pretty much tripled since she wound up in Florencia.

The scarf was cute too. Really, really cute. As long as the Heartless didn't use it to choke her. Star frowned and placed a hand on the scarf, tugging on it. She felt it tighten around her neck and sighed, unwrapping it. "On second thought, I'll take the hat," she said. "That seems kinda...unsafe for these times."
