The Wolf
Koori sat in the back room of a bar on the Space Station G, though he'd hardly call it a space station. After all, how could anything so small be used for anything other than storage? It even ran on nuclear and solar power. But then he reminded himself that it was foolish to compare any other worlds to his own, primitive though they might be. Though at the very least, one would think they would have Thinking AI, he thought as the door opened and a large man with rings on his fingers walked in, followed by two very muscular bodyguards and a much skinnier, rat like man carrying a briefcase. Koori glanced at the bodyguards. They appeared to be professionals, not the neanderthalic muscle heads one often saw. Still, they wouldn’t be much of a threat. He returned his attention to his be-ringed client as he sat down.

“So, you’re the client,” Kazuma said before the man could speak. He appears to be nervous: eyes darting, breathing and heart rate irregular, uncontrollable sweating, whitish complexion, said Wolf into his earpiece. Koori ignored her. “You said someone was trying to kill you, and you want to hire me for protection, right?”

The man finally fixed his eyes on Koori, making an obvious effort to calm down. ”Yes, that’s right. Over the last few days there have been several attempts on my life. That wouldn’t bother me normally, but every one brought me inches from dying. I’m at the end of my rope. Please, you have to protect me, I’ll pay you however much you want,” he said, voice rising in pitch till he sounded near hysterics.

Koori simply scratched his chin, completely unconcerned. “I don’t know, that seems like an awfully small briefcase. I’m not sure I feel like doing such a hard job if that’s all I get,” he said, closing his eyes and leaning back in his chair till his face was hidden in darkness.

At this comment, the rat faced man exploded, “How dare a lowly assassin like you speak to…” the man cut off abruptly, face filled with terror. There was a gasp from the fat client, and even the bodyguards seemed taken aback. It hadn’t been noticeable in the light, but when Koori opened his eyes in the dark, the golden irises seemed to glow, as if they were drawing in the little light in the room.

To his credit, the client seemed startled for only a moment, then he turned to the rat faced man. “Open it.” was all he said. The man obeyed, opening the case to reveal a computer. “With this computer, all we need to do is both enter our bank account numbers, and I can wire any amount of money to you immediately. Just tell me your price!”

Wow, he really is scared. Perfect, Koori thought, smiling slyly. “Sounds good. My price is 100,000,000. Take it or leave it,” he said, leaning forward again.

The fat man’s face went, for a moment, even whiter. Then he seemed to cave, a little. “Fine, I’ll give it too you, but you have to protect me.”

He entered the information for the transaction, then pushed the console to Koori, who entered the number of the bank account he used in this world. “And with that, the deal’s done.” Said Koori, rising and heading for the door. Suddenly, he stopped behind the client. “Oh yes, there was one other thing. I happened to meet a friend of yours on the way here. He told me to say hi when I saw you. I believe his name was Anderson.”

Instantly, the bodyguards were jumping for Koori, but he was to fast, before they had taken a second step, he had a pair of pistols in his hands. BANG BANG! A rubber bullet took each one between the eyes with enough force to knock them out. The rat-faced man realized what was happening and turned to run, but was a second to late. BANG! A third rubber bullet took him in the back of the head, propelling him forward into the wall. There was a dull crunch as his nose broke against the steel plates of the wall. The “client” was still sitting there, a look of stunned horror on his face. He shivered as Koori put the barrel of his gun to his head.

“You understand, right. Your partner hired me for double the amount you gave me, in this case, 200,000,000. Looks like you lose.” BANG! Blood splattered the table as Koori put a round through his head. “Fortunately for your men, you were the only one I was contracted for. Rest in piece,” Koori said wryly as he left the room. When he got to the counter of the bar, he put a large wad of money down, grinning. “Looks like I made another mess, Pops. This should be enough, right?”

The old man glanced at it and grunted, “Yeah, that’s fine, but you better not have put another hole in the table. Do you know how hard it is to explain those to the repair guys?” the man said grouchily.

“Don’t worry, I didn’t even scratch your table,” Koori said, grinning even wider. “Say hi to that daughter of yours, I may just visit her next time.” And with that he left, the old man’s dire threats about what would happen should Koori go near his daughter fading as he walked away, laughing.
