"...Sagittarius. Hello. Do you speak? Are you bubbling with intelligence?" Arxdelf was sitting in a chair in his almost featureless room, his wide glistening eyes fixed still on the stone that held in it's crystalline recesses a Lucavi demon. It had not responded to any attempts to communicate, from asking nicely to banging it against the wall. "I must make contact with you if I am to know anything about you. Shall I begin the process over again? Do we begin with pleasantries again? I don't want to have you subsume my form as insurance without understanding what that sort of action might do to me." Drones drifted aimlessly accross the many worlds. He could not focus on them anymore. His many eyes were crusted over with sleep, unable to pursue the targets of surveillance with earnest. Even the large metallic mantis, an extension of his own body and familiar limb, now hung its head as if in sleep, on the other side of the room. "You...please. Please. I don't fake emotion so frivolously. Not like the rest. It might become compulsive if I do. But for you, I will beg. I will be sweet," he said furtively, as if professing love to the stone. "Who are you in there and what would you do to me if I took Xemnas's contigency plan? What would happen to all of us?" Arxdelf was shirking his duties. It had been a vague number of hours now - he could not remember how many. He had not left his chambers once to perform his duties, autonomous and largely unsupervised though they were. ...what does Xemnas want? "Well, what does he hide?" Stop making me feel things! Stop making me pretend to feel! "I don't want to feel anything! I was born not to feel!" Arxdelf caught a painful glimpse of himself through the eyes of his silver mantis. He could see himself hunched almost double, vomiting words that seethed with hatred into the stone. He was shouting at it, pleading with it, looking for all the world like a grovelling dog. He paused, inhaling with a sick sucking noise, before straightening up and adjusting his collar. Arxdelf cleared his throat. "...that wasn't very nice, making me look the fool. You win this round." He sat back up in his chair, and set the stone on a nearby table. He left it there for only a minute before his fingers unconciously found it, turning it gently again on his palm. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say you are expressing emotions. Let's see, frustration, anger, soreness, and perhaps a hint of insanity since you are pleading with a rock,"Rorxain said. He had been leaning int he door way watching Arxdelf while he was otherwise distracted. He tossed Capricorn into the air and caught it. "They seem to possess no intelligence. They are merely a powerful, empty shell of their former selves. In a way, they are like us with our heart problem." |

“For someone so grounded by science, you’re awfully noisy and unscientific when trying to deal with a simple stone.” The voice that came was like an echo, as if the person who said it was speaking from inside a tube or a cave. It was downright unnatural if anything, but if Arxdelf and Rorxain wondered where the noise came from, they wouldn’t have to wonder too long as a dark, oval portal split the space in the middle of his room before disappearing, leaving Oxkito, arms across his chest without his hood over his head, standing where he had opened the portal. “Granted, these stones are anything but simple.” Ox admitted, raising it from his pockets and studying it with nothing but a cursory glance. “I’m sure we all agree at that by now; why waste time and bother ourselves with apprehension about it any longer?” |

Arxdelf bolted upright for a moment. He hesitated for a moment, licking his lips, before repocketing the stone in haste. "Nothing, nothing at all to be concerned about. I do not understand why my personal misgivings should be any of your concern." He still hadn't removed his hand from his pocket. It was cluctched around the stone very tightly. "Well? Any news? Doing great work for Xemnas, are we?" He muttered something indistinct after that, but seemed at last that he was clearing his throat. The man-sized metal mantis on the other side of the room stirred sleepily. "Oxkito, Rorxain, you should both understand that these aren't mere stones. If I'm being unscientific," he said, clearly struggling not to imitate the emotion of being stung. "It's because even I have visceral misgivings too clear about them to ignore." |

"Its obvious to anyone with eyes that these aren't mere stones. They are, in essence, highly concentrated, crystallized power,"Rorxain said. He looked at his stone, examining it. "Though I would suggest using it as a last resort. This much power has to have a serious side effect." Rorxain remembered something. He summoned on of his Knights and it knelt before him and presented him with a large scythe that wasn't the usual Hell Knight Scythe. He examined it a bit and then dismissed the Knight. "As for working hard, I confiscated this from one of the light wielders at a Heartless battle. It appears to be from a Heartless that looks like the Grim Reaper. I told the Light Wielder that we were going to examine it for information about the creation of Emblem Heartless. Do you think we can get anything out of it?"he asked the other two. "If not I'll probably keep it till I find that light wielder and give it back if he asks for it. Though it'd be a shame for it to go to waste...." Edited by Haganashi Yansaki, Jan 14 2010, 10:38 PM.

“Tell us what we don’t know.” Ox retorted coldly; Rorxain was basically repeating what Xemnas had said to them when he handed the stones to them. “Is there something else you want to add other than coming in here looking to annoy someone?” Ox looks at both Rorxain and Arxdelf in turn when the former presented a magnificent looking scythe to the later with a request. “And what exactly about it that caught your attention that believe this deserves our attention?” Ox interjected. “Heartless are Heartless, no matter what they are made of.” |

Arxdelf allowed his expression to melt back into blankness. "Change the subject if you will." His eyes began to trace the scythe, flashing brilliantly with color. He was obviously making some sort of cursory scan. He spoke in a subdued tone as he did so, running his fingers along the flat of the blade. "Now, now, No. IX. I have no problems with his...intrusion. Data is, after all, my domain of expertise, and I have much time to myself to perform an analysis. The more we know about the heartless, the better." He withdrew his hand. "I don't notice anything immediately out of the ordinary," he said, quietly. "But give me a little time with it and I can make a proper determination." Arxdelf stood up, brushing motes of dust from his sleeves...he'd been sitting in the room so long that even dust seemed to have gathered on him. He moved stiffly. "My comrades, since Rorxain so kindly regurgitated Xemnas' information on the stones, allow me to interject my current hypotheses: That A - these stones are simply nascent power waiting for a conciousness to bond to... or that B - there is still some latent intelligence within them. In the former case, we would be merely hosts provided to them. If the latter were true, I suspect they may have hearts of their own." He eyed them carefully. The giant mantis clattered up to his left, its head eerily turning in tandem his own as he looked from Rorx to Ox. Clearly he expected them to infer something. Was he testing them? "...opinions?" |

"If we know how they are created we can cease their existence after we get what we want. Then, no more problems for us to deal with,"Rorxain explained to Ox. "As for the stones, they probably have a little intelligence, but looking at what you've accomplished, it seems communicating with it is impossible unless we find someone who can speak with inanimate objects." |

For the briefest moment, Ox’s eyes narrowed at Arxdelf before returning to the usual hard and mean glare that was his usual expression. Many things were running through his mind at this point and none of them were positive. True, he has doubts about Xemnas’ intention in giving them these seemingly third-rate accessories… “Are you suspecting Xemnas intends to betray us?” Ox then asks Arx, giving the blond Nobody his usual death glare. “That, by giving us these stones, he has a way in getting rid of us from achieving our aim? That, he intends to keep the power of Kingdom Hearts for himself?” Ox then walks up and reached out to hold his right shoulder, and lean towards Arxdelf. “Is that what you’re trying to say? Or am I misunderstanding your doubts completely here?” |

"That would be what I meant, if unfounded hypotheses were true. But assuming they were true, it would be treason to utter such a statement in earnest." Arxdelf's left eye twitched ever so slightly. It was a tell. Ox, and not Rorxain, was quick enough to pick up on his intention...but he didn't expect him to blurt it out so openly. He spoke quickly and fluidly, implanting his true thoughts in the next statement, intent running counter to what he was actually saying. "And of course, you and I both know, No. IX, that we do not utter any of this in more than a hypothetical sense," he said, reaching into his sleeve. "After all, Xemnas is always looking out for us. I doubt that these stones have Hearts at all, and if they did, it would be utterly foolish to assume they'd fill the place of the Hearts we desire and corrupt us wholly. That's a childish fear." Arxdelf withdrew his hand from his sleeve, slipping out a piece of paper to Ox. His face remained gentle, almost pleasant and businesslike, which ironically semeed very uncharacteristic of Arxdelf. He didn't look down as he passed Ox the note. It's contents: "He may be listening." Edited by Marek, Jan 15 2010, 07:18 PM.

Rorxain knew there was something that wasn't being told to him. Considering he had nothing much to look forward to in his full life anyway, he didn't really care one way or another whether he got a heart. But at least it was a goal to accomplish. Rorxain wasn't stupid though. "I'd be careful even with your hypothetical claims. In this castle, the walls have eyes and ears,"he warned. |

"Guard your tongue." the hooded woman in their uniform Black cloak declared coming through the door, having been listening to what Oxkito had said which piqued her interest. Finally interjecting as Rorxain said the 'Walls have eyes and ears' as telling the traitor to be careful was like being in league with him. At least Oxkito was not so bold in his statements,"Rorxain and Arxdelf, remember that Mexes recently left us under mysterious circumstances...I would hate to find out that any of you would have to be leaving us as well. I do so find you guys powerful comrades and all." the woman told them as she revealed her blond hair to them, although this was easily recognizable considering...Well, it was obvious from her voice and her large chest. Alexia had been making her rounds around the Castle, making sure that others were doing their jobs. If their jobs for the day were done, then they should be heading to rest. Reaching their goals were the important thing, furthermore, what did it matter if they were being used by Xemnas. What else did they have to do? It had given them purpose, he had given them shelter and armies to command? She believed that they could pretend loyalty at least because if he could have provided all of them with that, how could they wish to stand against him. Students usually never defeat the master... |

“Good, let it stay that way.” Ox replied, pulling himself away from Arxdelf after he stated the form of his suspicion; just a mere hypothesis and nothing more. He pockets the paper he passed to him without letting Rorx notice. That was when Alexia entered with her own opinion on the topic of their conversation. “Now now, nobody else is going to disappear, at least not under my watch. And there are other things that can see and listen in this castle other than the walls.” Ox commented cryptically, slightly hoping they do remember it was he in their midst at the moment. “Let us speak no more of this again, though I do believe in expressing one’s opinion is healthy. Just don’t make it a habit here in the castle.” Ox then walks to the center of the room. “And don’t you all have better things to do?” He asks the others, before opening a portal and disappearing into the dark corridors. |

Arxdelf narrowed his eyes. He noted, however, that Ox did take his note before leaving. Perhaps it was a sign that he understood...and that he too doubted Xemnas' intentions. "Dissapearances -- such a vague danger hanging over our heads, as with Damocles." Arxdelf turned about, eyeing her inscrutably. If there was one thing he was good at, it was being completely unreadable, in spite of his recent difficulties. His blank expression suddenly broke into a grin, though. "How kind of you to notice our usefulness." You stupid woman...you pawn. None of us will gain anything from rooting out traitors. Xemnas is more than happy to dispose of all of us, including you. Don't be so smug. Even animals band together for self-preservation. The thought was so jarringly alien, rising in his chest. His eyes averted for a single moment, lines forming for a second around his mouth. This was the only outward sign of his inward assessment. Shoudln't make a habit of simulating emotion. That's for fools...but what are these dangerous thoughts? This is...uncharacteristic of me. "I've finished running my simulations. I'm not a child who puts a foreign object in his mouth without a second thought...because in all honesty, that's how most of us are treating these stones." Arxdelf moved towards the door into the outer chamber, passing her in the frame. He looked back over his shoulder, speaking in a subdued tone. His mantis puppet chittered quietly, remaining in the room. "If anyone later wants to hear my final analysis on the stones, be my guest. And as for the scythe, Rorxain, I will analyze it for you within the hour." |

"Rorxain tossed the scythe to Arx. "Sure. And by the way, even if your unfounded statement is true, I don't care. I've got nothing left for me in the world of the living so a heart means nothing to me. It just something to do in this life for me so as long as I get to do something with my time, I don't mind not getting my wish,"Rorxain said as he left to go to his own room.
