Damon outright winced at that. Kage. "Y...Yeah. Thanks." He said at that. Not much else could be said regarding that. This was a war, and nobody was safe. Not even the darkness itself. "I just have to make sure that Kage didn't save me for nothing....wait, you said 'She?'" He asked turning his head to Star in surprise at that. So the Kage from her world was a girl? Well then again, Elementals were genderless until they chose one. So the one there was a girl. And she took Kage out shopping. ....While stealing chocolate he likely made. He then noticed something. Something like a build up of elemental energy within the girl. Combined with they way she was presenting herself, as well as this build up, he could tell something was wrong. "Are you alright?" He asked, abandoning that topic completely and glancing to Lavender, then back to Star. "I can feel a build up in elemental energy in you. And not in the normal Elemancer style, either." Sometimes being one with the forces of nature had it's benefits. This was one of those moments. |

"Star, are you all right?" Lavender asked, noticing the strained expression the blond photomancer was beginning to show. Was she ill? Or just stressed out? By this point the topic had shifted from the people Star knew, to the photomancer herself. "What's wrong?" The Arcadian leader asked as she rose from her chair. "Are you alright?" Damon asked. "I can feel a build up in elemental energy in you. And not in the normal Elemancer style, either." "Damon, what do you-" Lavender asked, before a familiar vibration drew the aeromancer's attention to her neck. As Lavender removed the Mentor's Stone from beneath her shirt collar she noticed that the gem was vibrating and glowing - on its own, which only tended to happen when an anomalous reading is nearby. "What's going on?" Lavender asked as the light given off the Mentor's Stone began to change colors wildly - the last time such a strange reading occurred, it was with Kinclex at AcaBel. First things first, Lavender needed to find out what was going on with Star. She had handled situations like these back in the SEED Institute involving young Espers whose powers have yet to be categorized by the OASIS Foundation. "Star, can you hear me?" Lavender asked the blond photomancer, waving her right hand. "Look, I want you to relax, don't think of anything - empty your thoughts... can you manage it?" Edited by Lawman, Jan 5 2010, 12:38 PM.

"Ugh..." said Star, raising her hand up to her head as spikes of pain suddenly shot through her. She braced herself against the desk, bowing her head as her face contorted in pain. It felt like her body was coming farther and farther apart at each spike, and coming back together. The pain was intense, and Star quickly paled. It was just like the time she nearly fell off the tower, except it came in blasts, instead of one sharp spike. She clenched her teeth against the pain, Damon and Lavender's words the only thing that anchored her to consciousness. Star screamed through clenched teeth. Her breath came in sharp pants as jagged lines of light danced around her fingertips--enough light to cause burns if they came in direct contact with someone else's skin. She closed her eyes, forcing herself to listen to Lavender, thinking through the pain enough to empty her thoughts, to try and forget about everything. It was difficult, but somehow, Star managed to get her thoughts under control. She bit her lip, tasting blood, as she forced herself to rein in the light that was out of control, bring it back into her. |

What the HELL... What was going on here? Damon stared on as this occurred. The small scream like that, so quick and sudden, the buildup being released like THAT, this wasn't normal, not even for Elemancers who were tired, sick, or anything like that. "Grab her shoulders, keep her steady! Don't touch the light!" He said to lavender. He'd have done it himself, but Photomancy and Shadow elementals were like mixing potassium with water, normally. But, just as quickly as it came, there it went. He saw Star bite down on her lip, a bit of blood coming from it. Okay, this was by no means normal for an elemancer. "Hey, Star, are you alright?" He asked, simply as courtesy at this point. She couldn't have been alright after that. "I don't think I'm alone in saying that was bad." He said, very much taken aback by this sudden development. |

It must've been agonizing. Lavender figured that much as she observed Star's reactions. Still, the aeromancer had to give Star much credit at how bravely she fought the searing pain even as she teetered on the brink of unconsciousness amidst her pained cries and labored breathing. For a moment Lavender considered having the photomancer sedated when jagged lines of light began dancing off her fingertips, arcing around like electricity, but being composed of laser energy rather than plasma. It didn't take a genius to figure out that touching those streams would be bad for one's health. Lavender decided against sedation however, there was no telling what kind of reaction Star's body might produce if drugs were introduced into her system at this point. Lavender would have to trust that Star had the power to fight it. "Come on Star, you can do it!" Lavender spoke in a hushed tone into Star's ear, giving encouragement to the young photomancer. "Grab her shoulders, keep her steady! Don't touch the light!" Damon gave the cue, which happened to be the same thing Lavender had on her mind as she kept Star steady, holding firmly onto the photomancer's shoulders to keep her in her seat. Needless to say, she wasn't about to get anywhere near those rays - touching it would've been like touching a surgical laser, in other words, it burns. "Hey, Star, are you alright?" Damon asked. It appeared that Star was showing signs of stabilizing. Lavender was glad that her experience taught her well - even though the signs Star exhibited were totally unlike regular cases of Espers losing control over their powers, the triggering factors were most likely the same - usually tied in to certain thoughts and emotions, and hence the drill to get her to steady herself by emptying her thoughts. "I don't think I'm alone in saying that was bad." Damon added. Lavender merely nodded as she continued to hold onto Star, occasionally giving encouragements or advice based on how her condition changes. If anything, she would probably need to put the photomancer under observation just to see what kind of changes are going on in her system - after all, elemancers don't just lose control all of a sudden, and Lavender was most concerned about isolating the cause for Star's condition, out of concern over the photomancer's well-being above everything else. |

Star took a deep breath as the light around her radiated outwards sharply once accompanied by a sharp sound, then seemed to shrink back into her and vanish completely. It would seem to the other two as if the glow around her had suddenly responded by capturing the errant strands of light and swallowing it into her--as if some sort of barrier or seal had suddenly taken effect. Star leaned back against Lavender as the pain faded away, tangling her fingers through her hair as she took a few more deep breaths. It barely lasted a minute, but it felt like an hour. She felt drained. Her eyes were closed and her face was still pale, but she reached up a hand and gave Damon a weak thumbs-up when he asked if she was alright. Typical Star. When she finally felt enough strength come back to her to talk, she opened her eyes and turned to face them. Star reached into her pocket and pulled out a handkerchief, folding it and blotting her lip with it as she looked from Lavender to Damon. "Well..." she said, her voice betraying how exhausted she really was. She could still feel the light beneath the surface, fighting against whatever it was that restrained it, although softly this time. "That's new." |

"..." Damon could think of nothing to say after that. Such a display of power going out of control was disturbing, to say the least. "I would certainly hope that's new." He managed to say, in shock. This girl, what had just happened, he had a theory but there was no way it could be right. Did he just see what he thought he saw? "I'm no doctor, but I think you need to rest. NOW." He said very sternly. He had studied Elemancy his entire life, so if this was what he was starting to suspect it was, she needed to rest. He wasn't about to make any explanations to her, not at the moment, and if he was right, maybe not ever. Something protected her this time. Something that might just have saved her life, or at the least made sure she did not get hurt. It was as if her Elemancy was being sealed away, by something placed on her long ago. One thig was sure for Damon, she had more raw talent than he did when he was a Shadowmancer. Raw, uncontrolled power, it looked like. And it looked like someone knew that. He looked to Lavender, not sure what kind of knowledge she might have on Elemancers. "Miss Lavender, I do wish to speak to you later on the table, and replacing it. I can and will gladly do so. I have a....considerable bit of funding behind me." He said. It was partly true, but really, he wanted to talk to Lavender, away from Star's prying ears. What they just saw could be very important information for Arcadia. |

"...what?" Lavender gasped as light radiated outwards from Star, before hearing a sudden noise, and then the rays of light returned back to the photomancer's body. It seemed that Star's ordeal was over, at least for now. Lavender heaved a sigh of relief as she allowed the blond girl to lean back against her, her breathing heavy and ragged. Star's pale complexion and labored breathing were evidence that the entire experience had been pretty draining all right, but she nevertheless gave Damon a thumbs up to show that she was fine, or as fine as she could get for the time being. Lavender had a bad feeling that until they could find out what was wrong with Star they are likely to witness relapses from the photomancer, and each subsequent one would mostly probably be worse than the previous. But for now, apart from a bloodied lip from biting down on it against the pain and being physically and mentally exhausted, Star was fine. "Well... That's new." Star commented, her voice showing how worn-out she was. "So... you've never encountered anything like this before?" Lavender asked the young photomancer, not knowing if she was aware of her question at this point. "I would certainly hope that's new." Damon chimed in after a moment of silence from the shadow elemental, it was apparent to Lavender that he too had found the entire event quite a shock. "I'm no doctor, but I think you need to rest. NOW." "Damon's right," Lavender added as she cradled Star in her arms and stood up, taking the photomancer in a bridegroom's carry. It was all coming back to her at this point... how could she have possibly forgotten? Lavender figured she must've fallen asleep during that particular lesson in the Instructor training course at Alpha Labs - it was little wonder Star's case was different from your typical out-of-control scenarios; the ones she'd encountered thus far were usually the result of emotional outbursts or other psychological factors that caused an Esper to lose conscious control over their abilities. From what she could remember now, Star's case was not so much of her powers going maverick due to emotional factors, but clearly it was something inside her. Or from what she could deduce, too much power, too little control. Lavender frowned inwardly at the thought - such cases, although rare, are extremely dangerous. Espers, especially young ones like Star are particularly vulnerable, and unless suitable measures can be taken to keep their powers under control the end results are always disastrous. And the difficult part was how to break the news to the young photomancer. Any upsets would only aggravate the situation. But first things first, Star is headed for the infirmary for rest and recuperation, and to be placed under observation. That was the commander's decision. "Miss Lavender, I do wish to speak to you later on the table, and replacing it. I can and will gladly do so. I have a....considerable bit of funding behind me." Lavender glanced at Damon, still carrying Star in her arms. "Well then, we could talk about this after I get Star to the infirmary," Lavender nodded, cocking her head slightly in the direction of the infirmary. |

Sleep sounded so good right now. Now that it was over, all Star really wanted to do was sleep actually. But she forced herself to stay lucid long enough to process Lavender's question, although it took her a lot longer than usual. "Last time, it was fast," she said, "Only lasted a second." Or at least, that was what she meant to say, but her exhaustion combined with her bleeding lip made it sound like she had more than a few drinks in her. Her words were slurred, and Star realized this the moment they left her mouth. If she were drunk, though, she had a feeling that she would be a lot more comfortable. The thought actually made her giggle. Just went to show how bone-tired she was. "I can walk..." she meant to tell Lavender as she picked her up and brought her to the infirmary. But by this time, the words were pretty much gibberish, and if Lavender caught them at all, she probably wouldn't believe it. Yeah...she definitely couldn't walk. She did have enough energy in her to say one thing, though, as she finally gave up and leaned back towards Lavender, closing her eyes. "...Don't tell Meglumar..." |

This was good. The b were going to have her put in the infirmary. "A good idea." He said, opening to the door. He was going to offer to offer to carry Star, but it seemed she had something to tell Lavender right now.It sounded slurred and quiet, so he had no idea what it was. He moved over to the desk Star was at and removed her papers from it. "Looks like you lucked out Star. I'll handle your paperwork. Just rest and relax, focus on feeling better." He said, trying to lighten the mood slightly. Ironic how this all started over her trying to avoid paperwork, and this ending up letting her avoid it. "I'll get these finished up quickly, then head to the infirmary, alright?" |

"Last time, it was fast," Star mumbled as Lavender carried her, although the photomancer sounded pretty incoherent at this point, and that was what Lavender managed to make out with some effort. "Only lasted a second." Did she say she had a previous spell before that lasted a second? That sounded bad, almost as if what Lavender feared had been confirmed - it had already started, and it was getting worse. "I can walk..." Lavender pretty much ignored what Star said at this point, ignoring gawking Arcadians on the scene as she made a beeline towards the office door. "...Don't tell Meglumar..." Star whispered as she finally gave in and nodded off in Lavender's arms. That one the Arcadian leader caught, and Lavender nodded at Star. "A good idea." Damon added as he opened the door for the Arcadian leader. Lavender smiled slightly and nodded at Damon's assistance. "Thanks, Damon," Lavender replied. "Looks like you lucked out Star. I'll handle your paperwork. Just rest and relax, focus on feeling better." Damon remarked as he removed Star's papers from her desk. "I'll get these finished up quickly, then head to the infirmary, alright?" "Right, I'll be there until you show up," Lavender replied as she looked over her shoulder at Damon before carrying Star out of the office, heading down the hallways past stunned Arcadians before arriving at the infirmary. For the past half an hour Lavender sat soundlessly on the benches outside the infirmary, rising to her feet after a nurse and a doctor exited the ward in which Star was resting. "How's she doing?" The aeromancer asked anxiously. "She's pretty tired, but otherwise fine for now," the doctor replied, glancing briefly at the clipboard held in his left hand. "But my advice is to avoid getting her stressed out, as well as to avoid using her photomancy until we can determine the root of her condition. We'll be keeping her under observation over the next day." Lavender nodded as the medical staff left her alone. Alone outside Star's ward, Lavender settled back onto a nearby bench, waiting for Damon to arrive. |

Damon walked by, a small stack of paperwork in hand. "All done with her paperwork. She won't need to worry about that for a while. What did the doctors say?" He asked, half sure he already knew what they were going to say. The entire time he was working on it, he was thinking things through about this entire situation. Damon knew Elemancy better than anything in the world. Better than books, better than languages, even better than cooking. The more he thought on it, the more it became clear, and the truth worried him. He really hoped he was wrong on this. Still, the chances of that were fairly slim. She had mentioned this happening before, which meant this was just starting. She had begun taking lessons from J. Ugh, it was real, wans't it? There were other possibilities, but even he found them far-fetched. |

"All done with her paperwork. She won't need to worry about that for a while. What did the doctors say?" Lavender heard Damon say as the shadow elemental arrived, a stack of papers in hand. The amethyst-haired aeromancer gestured towards the bench next to her, indicating that Damon place them there. "She's stable for now," Lavender replied. "Although they're not sure when she's going to have another relapse and how serious it would be. We're certainly not taking any chances, that's for sure. That's why we'll be carefully observing her for the next 24 hours, during which she'll be forbidden from using her photomancy, assuming her condition is tied in to her powers, of course." That being said, Lavender folded her arms across her chest, looking into the soundproofed ward where Star was currently resting. "You seemed to know a good deal about elemancy for someone your age," Lavender commented, recalling how Damon took control of the situation earlier. "So, I'm guessing you have your insight to offer on this case?" |

Damon placed down the papers as Lavender motioned him to do so. She then asked him what insight he had on this. He was silent for a moment, thinking how best to articulate the thoughts running about in his head. "What I'm about to tell you can't be told to Star. Not yet. And I don't mean in the 'She shouldn't know or worry' kind of way. I mean in the 'the shock might do something BAD' kind of way." He said, setting up a small disclaimer to start things off with. "I can't claim to say I've seen this before. I've only read about it, and we seem to have caught it in the early phases, so we might have a better chance of keeping it from happening, if what I suspect is true. " He said, before getting to the point. "I don't think Star is human. Not fully. I suspect she has Elemental blood in her. A high concentration of Light Elemental blood, to make matters worse. If she were a hodgepodge of other elementals, or even just majorly derived from most other elements, we wouldn't have this sort of problem, but..." "....Well, yeah. I think that her training in another world was recent, if she just recently met up with who I think she did, and the worlds follow a rough outline of mine. The training unlocked too much of Star's elemancy, too much of her bloodline. It's pretty bad. What we saw was a seal of sorts, made by someone with excellent light control. I'm guessing her elemental 'parent,' or grandparent. Likely the latter. If it were a parent she'd be dead by now." He admitted, not particularly happy to admit that detail. "What else...." He said, thinking back to his thinking from earlier. "Any emotional fluctuations of great intensity can also be a cause, since emotions can strengthen and weaken elemancy, depending on the type. In short? She needs her emotions in check. She needs to be monitored. She needs her elemancy to be restricted to some extent, nothing too flashy unless the situation demands otherwise. I can look in what elemancy information I managed to retrieve from Hyakuji, but there's not a lot of it, and no guarantee that anything can be done for her. Quite frankly.....Even though I have a very good idea what is going on, I have no idea what this means for Star. She could die in 3 seconds, she could live to be 300. Human/Elemental bloodmixes are very strange, no two are ever alike." |

"What I'm about to tell you can't be told to Star. Not yet. And I don't mean in the 'She shouldn't know or worry' kind of way. I mean in the 'the shock might do something BAD' kind of way." Lavender nodded as Damon began, reaching into her jacket's hip pocket and retrieving her PDA. This could be useful training material for SEED instructors should she get back, and among other reasons, it was something that the amethyst-haired aeromancer had to take note of. Needless to say, to make doubly sure that said information doesn't some how end up being viewed by Star the aeromancer would keep it in her personal files rather than Arcadian files. "Well, just how bad is it?" Lavender asked as she readied her stylus pen. The Arcadian leader gasped as Damon revealed his suspicions of Star being a half-elemental, with the elemental side of her being that of a light elemental. Now, Lavender had seen all kinds of beings go in and out of the gates of the SEED institute, but this was the first time she's ever heard of a half-elemental. "A half-elemental you say? So is she like, a Genasi or something?" Lavender's inner geek somehow made its way to the surface, as the aeromancer brought up the Genasi race from D&D, who are similarly of elemental descent. "Nevermind if you don't know what I'm talking about... please continue," Lavender chided herself for geeking out during such a serious conversation. The amethyst-haired aeromancer nodded solemnly as Damon got to the part describing how the training Star received in another world had apparently unlocked too much of her elemental heritage and along with it, some nasty side effects. What Damon and herself knew however, eventually pointed to the same thing - she would need to avoid severe emotional fluctuations and use her abilities in moderation. However, towards the end of it Damon did admit that he wasn't too sure whether this current crisis Star was facing were signs of an impending superpower meltdown, or whether it was a trial that would make her a lot stronger if she were to overcome it. "That's quite a mouthful..." Lavender remarked upon saving the file. "If every case of a human/elemental hybrid is unique, does that mean you aren't sure if Star's current condition is either an impending meltdown, or a trial that could be overcome and would possibly make her stronger?" The Arcadian leader asked. "At any rate, I guess we'll need more investigations to be sure - I'll contact my parent organization, perhaps see if they could supply us with some form of suppression agent for her abilities if worse comes to worst." That being said, Lavender sighed and leaned back against the wall - it was going to be another busy week for her; why can't things be just as simple of eliminating Heartless? |
