If there were three things Damon hated about Arcadia, it was paperwork, paperwork, and paperwork. Sadly, that was exactly what he was dealing with today. He'd been letting it pile up, and was really not looking forward to this one bit. Still, it could have been worse. He could have been doing this in public, inciting another riot or something. Instead, though, he was busy filling out all the paperwork at a table and chair out in the open. Hopefully nothing too bad would happen... Edited by Captain, Dec 30 2009, 08:02 PM.

Paperwork. God, what a bore. It was a good thing there were always kind people who offered to do it for her. And if they were especially prone to offering after she gave them a sweet smile, a few nice words, and had well-developed...er...physical aspects (*cough*BOUNCE*cough*), then it really was no skin off her back. Unfortunately, most of the people around Arcadia had already caught on to her, and she was stuck doing her own paperwork this time. So...what better to do than to procrastinate? Star set aside another piece of paper into the outbox, then looked up and stretched as she looked around for someone to annoy--er...befriend. Two guys from Water, one girl from Wind, Damon Ark, a boy from--hmm...Damon Ark. Star knew Damon from her world, but she also knew it wasn't the same Damon. Still, this could be interesting. "Hey, Damon," she said, ...What'cha doing?" she asked in a sing-song voice, looking up at Damon from the other side of his desk with a grin on her face. |

"I'm not doing you paperwork." Damon said bluntly. This girl's charms never worked on this boy. In fact, he didn't even NOTICE those charms. He'd been hearing rumors about a girl like her, though. He didn't know her outside of seeing her on missions, and the like. She was also a Photomancer, the exact opposite of his shadowmancy. He knew of one of one other Photomancer, and we all knew hoe he felt about HIM. He still had dreams where he got hit by a truck. Those were good dreams. Also combine that directly with the fact that he was still uncomfortable with people looking straight at him, and he was an unhappy shadow elemental. Oh, and of course, PAPERWORK. |

"Wah~ So mean," said Star. If this were an anime, she imagined she'd be floating around in a cold wind with ice crystals clinging to her. She shook her head and laughed, still holding on to the desk. "The other you would have at least consi--oh, wait, no, the other you was too busy trying to hide your stash of chocolate while I b----ed constantly about Tsubame Hoshino." Gotcha, thought Star with a small smile. That would be sure to get his attention, although she did feel bad about mentioning something like that when she knew what kind of bad blood Damon and the trio had. Of course, there was always the chance that this Damon had an alternate history. It would all depend on his reaction to that statement. "Well," said Star with a small smile on her face as she turned around to head back to her desk. "I guess I'll go." Three...Two... Edited by Chizu, Jan 1 2010, 12:18 PM.

Damon's entire body tensed as soon as he heard that name. It seemed as if the area directly around Damon grew darker, his eyes glowing yellow beneath the hood that covered his head. His hand formed a fist, immense rage coming over his entire body. "How....DARE you..." He muttered, filled with fury. His fist slammed into the table, shattering it as it crashed into it. "NEVER say that name around me. Or ANY of those names. I don't know who you think you are, but if you know ANYTHING about me, you will at least RESPECT the fact that I don't ever want to hear about THEM." |

Well. Well then. Star stood with her back to Damon, her smile fading away although he would never see it. She clenched her fists against the sudden fierce, fierce, irrational drive to protect, drive to defend J against a verbal onslaught that he would never actually hear. Love, devotion, and remembered anguish slammed into her with all the force of a ton of bricks, the impact taking Star's breath away for just a moment. But it was only a moment. The riptide of emotion surged and ebbed, leaving her drained. If Damon was observing, he would notice that her fists slowly unclenched, her shoulders slumping. She had been wrong to bring up Tsubame and J...but how could she have known? She glanced back at Damon. "Oh...so in your world you haven't reached the resolution of that yet..." she said, "In mine, by the time I showed up, you weren't friendly, but you were coexisting, and my complaints made you pity me, not hate me..." She shrugged. "Well...he was my teacher, so in this, we have to disagree." She knew. She knew everything that J had done, and yet...she saw the scars. She saw the way J and Tsu couldn't move on with their lives, even though everyone else involved was already way past moving on. And all she wanted back then was to give some people a little happiness. Star slowly walked back to her desk. In her mind, it was night, and she was pulling him closer, a single tear falling into an ocean of water. The memory was quickly replaced by another, and Star clenched her fists again against another emotion. This time, on top of a tower in Second District at night...he was hugging her, and she was frozen, and she couldn't hug him back. No way. No way. She couldn't be...She couldn't allow herself to fall in love again. |

Damon growled a bit as he TRIED to regain control. He could tell his little outburst had been too much. Still, if there was ANY member of that trio he hated, it was Tsubame. Then came Arashi. Then came J. Tsubame was the one who had hurt Kaede the most. Arashi HELPED cause that much damage by kidnapping Kaede in the first place. He still disliked that photomancer, though, because he was the one who planned it. "Yeah, well, I'm sorry to say forgiving mass murders takes more time, with me." He said, still seething a bit with fury. "But if it makes you feel any better, Miss Ricci, Jeremiah was the one I hated the least. Usually all he did was plan and kill. He didn't torture anyone like that demonic flower girl." He said, as if he were clenching his teeth. |

It was supposed to be a quiet day for Lavender, when they aren't responding to crisis situations and the like. The amethyst-haired aeromancer leaned back in her chair inside her office, stretching out her limbs before turning her attention back to the computer - however, she found it increasingly difficult to focus on the reports and other documents coming in, instead feeling tempted to take a nap, or perhaps to get back to drawing doujin - something she hadn't found the time to do ever since she took up the reins of leadership for Arcadia. She'd submitted periodic reports of Arcadia's missions to the organization's sponsor, GLADIUS, and it gladdens her to see that the top brass of the OASIS Foundation had taken things positively. "...!" Lavender sat bolt upright as she heard what sounded like a loud crash, her pointed ears perking up at the sound before the aeromancer jumped out of her chair. The sound came from the common office; just what was going on? Exiting the office, Lavender headed towards the source of the commotion. And if Star and Damon had been paying attention to their surroundings at this point, they would notice standing at the doorway was the unmistakable figure of Lavender, dressed in the tan-colored Arcadia/GLADIUS dress uniform, her arms folded across her chest. The amethyst-haired aeromancer glanced briefly at the shattered desk next to Damon, before looking up at Star and Damon again. "All right, could one of you explain this for me?" Lavender asked as she pointed at the broken desk, raising an eyebrow quizzically. Her tone was like that of a parent who had just found the broken vase the child tried to hide away after he accidentally broke it. A rhetorical question, basically. Sure, the amethyst-haired aeromancer could've guessed what happened, but she asked anyway as a way of testing the two of them, to see if they were aware of their words and actions. |

Busted. Oh well, that was probably a good thing. Lavender's sudden entrance was all the distraction she needed to keep herself from dwelling on the past. Star grinned and turned towards her, wondering how the Arcadia leader would react when she saw what Star had done with her dress uniform. It wasn't exactly that Star had altered the cloth itself...but she supposed the iron-on designs around the collar and skirt may have been against regulations. It was school all over again. "My fault, boss," said Star with her usual cheerful smile as she turned to Lavender. "I was bored and was trying to get a rise out of Damon, but you know, I kinda forgot that the names I was dropping to get him to look up were connected to the murder of his entire family...uh...whoopsie~." Those words were...probably never supposed to be said in that sort of cheerful tone, but it wasn't like Star meant any malice by it. "So...to make up for my transgression, I'd be happy to clean up." |

Oh good god. The boss was here. Just awful. He looked down at the table, and winced. Ah lord. He really should have had better control. Granted, at least this time a storm of DARKNESS did not erupt and destroy the room like the LAST time someone brought those three up. Even still, though, he shouldn't have demolished the table. It was innocent. "...My apologies. I'll pay for a replacement. I should not have lost control of myself so easily." He said with a sigh. "And as for YOU." He said glaring back to Star. "I'm sure your little teacher forgot the part where they kidnapped and tortured my girlfriend, oh, and how could I ever forget, stabbed me through with a chainsaw sword of light." "Granted, the demonic flower girl handled the torture, but he could have stopped it at ANY time." He said, continuing to stare. "If you wanted to get a rise out of me, I'm sure you could bring up any other name. But saying HERS? I'm sorry, but who the hell do you think you are? Do you honestly think you can just waltz up to someone who's SEEN their handiwork first hand for their entire life, just mention them offhanded, and think that's fine!?" He quickly tensed up, but then seemed to be 'breathing' deeply. He needed to stay calm. No getting angry. No going nuts. For goodness sakes, he needed to get over this. "I'm sorry." He said simply. |

"My fault, boss," Star replied as she turned to face Lavender, her usual cheerful smile on her face. Lavender said nothing but raised an eyebrow at what the photomancer had done to her dress uniform, taking note of the iron-on designs around the collar and skirt. The Arcadia leader would've said something if a GLADIUS operative had done the same thing to their dress uniform - but except that despite being sponsored by GLADIUS, Arcadia isn't GLADIUS, something that the aeromancer learned when she first took up the reins of leadership - with the exception of Liz, Nozomi and several others back home who were attached to Arcadia the rest of the organization's operatives were mostly student volunteers and not militarily-trained professionals. She should act more like a SEED instructor rather than a GLADIUS commander. And for that, she decided to let the whole 'custom uniform' thing slide, although she would make a mental note to later remind Star to not wear that if the OASIS Foundation's officials were to pay the place a visit. "I was bored and was trying to get a rise out of Damon, but you know, I kinda forgot that the names I was dropping to get him to look up were connected to the murder of his entire family...uh...whoopsie~." Lavender recoiled slightly at what Star said; not because of the part about the murder of his family - although that was pretty nasty stuff she had to admit - but rather the tone the blond used when speaking. Now that was just... wrong. "So...to make up for my transgression, I'd be happy to clean up." "...My apologies. I'll pay for a replacement. I should not have lost control of myself so easily." At least for now, both Star and Damon were agreed upon the fact that the table had been an innocent victim caught in their crossfire, and both agreed to make up to it in their own ways. However, Star certainly wasn't helping things any as she made another jab at Damon. "I'm sure your little teacher forgot the part where they kidnapped and tortured my girlfriend, oh, and how could I ever forget, stabbed me through with a chainsaw sword of light." The shadow elemental retorted, glaring back at the photomancer. "If you wanted to get a rise out of me, I'm sure you could bring up any other name. But saying HERS? I'm sorry, but who the hell do you think you are? Do you honestly think you can just waltz up to someone who's SEEN their handiwork first hand for their entire life, just mention them offhanded, and think that's fine!?" "That's enough out of you two!" Lavender replied in a firm tone - not exactly enraged like Damon was, but still carries her point across that she wasn't about to stand for it any longer, like a teacher breaking up a fight, before approaching the two of them. "I'm sorry." Damon said, having cooled down after realizing the futility of anger. "Well, I can't exactly begrudge you with paying for the table - I'm paying for the damages here," Lavender sighed as she leaned back against a nearby wall. She would have to do so out of her own pocket however, seeing how a report would be needed for usage of GLADIUS funds, and she had no wish of exposing what just went on here to her superiors back home. "However, that does not mean I am allowing a repeat of today's incident," the amethyst-haired aeromancer looked sternly at Damon and Star. "You're no longer in elementary school," Lavender began what would be a lecture. "I can't exactly get the two of you to just shake hands and make up like the way kids do, but if we - Arcadians - were to function effectively as a cohesive unit we have to learn to get over differences like these. Last thing I want to see is an Arcadian turn against another Arcadian," the amethyst-haired aeromancer asserted herself. "But if it helps, perhaps you could fill me in on that particular part of your history?" Lavender asked, her tone softening. She'd missed out on what happened when she came in, but in order to come to a mutually beneficial resolution she would first need to better understand the situation and weigh things carefully instead of taking sides. |

Inwardly, Star recoiled at Damon's rage towards her, although outwardly, her smile never slipped. Affected. She couldn't allow herself to show that she was affected. It just wasn't in her style. But still...she had made a mistake. She knew that, and the fastest thing to do would be to diffuse the situation without acting like the world's biggest b----. On impulse, she let her mask drop slightly, letting Damon see her sudden concern, and a little bit of guilt. "No, he mentioned those parts," said Star. That and so much more, but it hurt to think about it. She laced her hands behind her back and leaned against her desk, sitting on it slightly as she looked up at Lavender. "I...miscalculated. I knew another Damon from another world, I thought the histories were the same. Apparently, in my world, it went farther than in his. By the time I showed up, all of that conflict was already resolved and dropping the name I dropped would come up with surprise and irritation, but not outright rage. So...I'm sorry. If I knew, I would never have said anything." "I haven't been myself lately," she admitted with a faint smile, suddenly hating the clinical way that she had discussed her thoughts and her methods. The last thing she wanted was for them to see who she really was and what she was really capable of. Feigning stupidity had got her out of so many things before. |

Alternate realities and alternate people. This was sounding more and more like a bad fanfiction. He closed his eyes as he listened on to what Star explained. As much as he would have liked to hold a grudge against her, but chances were that he would not be able to. "That makes about as much sense as everything else that goes on here." He said with a begrudging sigh. "So....it's fine. Just next time, remember alternate realities can be very different. I doubt the other you turned into this." He said, at least hoping that was the case. He then turned his head to Lavender. "Long story short, yeah. Her teacher's alternate from my world and his entire family hunted down EVERYONE with so much as a blood link to me, and killed them in ways that would make medieval torturers turn green. Only three of us survived, two of us took the fight to them, got them arrested. Luckily without killing a single human, just some demonic entity of chaos or something. I'm the only one who survived the heartless invasion, though. So, yeah, very touchy subject for me."He said, stopping there and at that. It was a VERY simplified overview. "...So how DID you know my alternate?" He asked Star, hopeful for a quick change in discussion out of this one. Learning about an alternate could prove helpful. Just because they likely had the same DNA did not mean they were the same person, in the end. Edited by Captain, Jan 4 2010, 02:10 PM.

"No, he mentioned those parts," Star replied; Damon had pretty much covered most of it, it would seem. Lavender had to admit that it was so unlike the Star she was familiar with, to see her all remorseful like that. If I knew, I would never have said anything." Lavender grabbed a nearby chair and sat down, leaning forward to rest her chin upon her interlaced fingers - alternate realities; she got her first taste of that in the Anino incident; and still remembered how it came to her as a surprise when she met Selene Frostfire, who turned out to be very different from the one she knew back at home. "I see..." Lavender commented, her voice low and thoughtful. "I haven't been myself lately," the blond photomancer continued, smiling weakly. "No one can blame you for being so, Star," Lavender replied, changing her seating posture as she leaned back this time round. "Especially with all that we've been going through since Arcadia's re-founding." The amethyst-haired aeromancer gave Star and Damon a sympathetic nod. For many of them, when Hyakuji was destroyed by the Heartless they didn't just lose their homes and loved ones - their lives as they knew it had come to an end, (though not in the same way as those who became Nobodies) and readjusting to a new life in alien environs would certainly come with their stressful moments. "That makes about as much sense as everything else that goes on here." Damon sighed in resignation. "So....it's fine. Just next time, remember alternate realities can be very different. I doubt the other you turned into this." The shadow elemental continued, addressing the Arcadia leader. So, yeah, very touchy subject for me." "That's really sad to hear," Lavender replied, offering her condolences to Damon. However, it was at least some consolation to the aeromancer to learn that the perpetrators of this heinous act didn't escape justice - and at his hands no less. She was impressed by Damon's character, to say the least - to bring the murderers of one's family to justice, yet never losing the moral high ground by allowing oneself to become consumed by the desire for revenge. Lavender couldn't help but be reminded of her own past, back when she learned how her father - her only family member - was killed in a terrorist bombing incident, and how she came to join the ranks of GLADIUS due to said incident, and over the years rising through the ranks from a probationary cadet all the way to field commander. "It's good to hear at least they were brought to justice," she continued. Even though it won't bring back the dead, at least it is a powerful motivator, when one knows that the wicked will not escape unpunished. "...So how DID you know my alternate?" Damon asked Star. Lavender said nothing, but she was nonetheless curious about this alternate Damon from Star. What is he like? |

"Yeah, I know," said Star, with a small smile at Lavender's words. "Doesn't make it feel any less weird." Star winced inwardly at Damon's explanation, although she didn't show it. The same things had happened in her world, although she only knew about them after the fact. It was probably best that she didn't draw attention to that fact though. Yeah...probably best that she just drop it. Her head was suddenly beginning to hurt. She frowned for a moment and raised her hand to rub at her forehead. For a moment, she thought the world blurred, but the moment passed so quickly that Star wondered if she had been imagining it to begin with. "He was student council president," said Star, "He was the first person I met on my first day of high school. I called him Mr. President. He didn't like that. And after things went sour with J and with...You-Know-Who, I used to break into his apartment and steal his chocolate. I used to take Kage out shopping too; Damon, I'm sorry to hear about her...or him, you know, alternate universe and all that." All of this alternate universe stuff was giving her a headache...or did she already have a headache to begin with? She wasn't sure. She leaned back against the desk slightly, although she continued to smile at both Lavender and Damon. If either of them had a sixth sense acute enough, they would be able to sense energy slowly building up inside Star, becoming more and more concentrated, as if it was trying to break through...something. Otherwise, they might have noticed the way she seemed just a little strained, or nothing at all. |
