Koori listened to the sound of his breathing; in, out, in, out. He listened to his heart beating; thump thump, thump thump. He lay on the roof of a tall building, looking through the scope of a sniper. In, out, in, out. He pressed a button, and the door of a night club snapped into focus. Thump thump, thump thump. He flipped a switch, and a set of hydraulics began to move, adjusting the length of the barrel. In, out, in, out. A few minutes passed, and then the door of the night club opened, and out stepped his target. Thump, in, thump, out, thump, in, BANG! a mile away form the night club, the sound of a bullet going super sonic could almost be heard over the noise from the street below, and a second later, a gaping red hole was all that remained of the face of the leader of a prominent Vampire Clan. Koori smiled and got up. "Target Eliminated," said a voice in his ear piece. He ignored it. His job was done. By now the nanites in the bullet were destroying any evidence there was left. It had been a nice bullet, made of silver, explosive, filled with nanites to clean up the debris, and then they too would explode, and their remnants would be absorbed by the liquid in the corpse. All very neat, he thought as he went down the stairs. It was time to meet his employer and collect his fee. |

Why her? Really, why was it always her? It wasn't like she actually intended to go to the Haven. Nightclubs were really not her thing. In fact, she wasn't even in the building. All she was doing was walking past it on the street. Admittedly, she was walking past it really slowly, hands in her pockets as she kept her eyes out for any drunks that were coming out. Old habit of hers, really, one that was gonna get her killed someday. Look for people that were likely to fight her for no reason at all, fight them, beat them up. It was something she did when there was something on her mind, or when she needed to prove something to herself. That wasn't what she was doing now, though. In fact, if anyone really had come out to attack her, she'd probably run. She wasn't in the mood to fight anyone right now. She just wanted to walk to clear her head. Although the walk through Aurora at night made her realize something. Was it just her, or did the city's inhabitants get really...strange after dark? The worst part was, it was a familiar strange, if that sort of thing even existed. But more to the point, she was walking past the Haven after dark when she heard a gunshot echo through the air. Chizu stopped in her tracks, her eyes narrowing as the man who exited the club in front of her simply dropped to the sidewalk, a bloody mess all that was left of his face. She looked around sharply, but she couldn't see a shooter. The bullet had moved through the air too fast for her to track it, but not fast enough so that she couldn't feel the line that it left. She looked up, scanning the nearest building. Chizu. Roof. said Aether sharply. Chizu nodded once in assent, taking off towards the building. She brushed past the people inside roughly, a streak of white and red as she made for the stairs. She took them two at a time as she ran up. Stairs? asked Aether. If I shot that guy, I'd be running down these stairs, not hanging around on the roof. She felt Aether nod. Five flights ahead, he said. Chizu nodded, continuing to run. She didn't stop until she bumped into the white haired man that was walking down the steps. Chizu stopped walking, panting slightly from her mad dash up the stairs. She turned towards him, not saying anything, just waiting for a reaction. The old Chizu would have attacked on sight, but the new Chizu did at least consider the possibility that she might have the wrong guy. |

Koori was surprised when the girl bumped into him, but recovered quickly enough. "My my, that was unexpected. Are you alright?" he asked, taking a step back. He adjusted the strap on his shoulder bag, which had come loose. A zipper had slid, showing the end of the sniper barrel. He re-zipped it quickly. His client wanted this to be clean, and he would hate to have to kill such a cute girl. "Will you get out of there. This is no time for flirting," said the voice in his earpiece. Again, he ignored it. He knew he needed to hurry, but this building was a mile from the club, and even the best snipers on this planet couldn't shoot that far. Unless this girl was another world jumper, she wouldn't know. |

Chizu stood there, panting as she caught her breath. Her eyes weren't drawn to the man's face, but to the gun barrel that had been exposed for just a moment. Her eyes narrowed suddenly, her expression contorting into one of sudden anger as she rushed forward with a speed that was surprising, attempting to grab the front of the man's shirt with her hand and slam into him with all over her momentum, pushing him against the wall. Her eyes, a deep red, narrowed dangerously as she looked at him. He wasn't much taller than she was, so she didn't have to look up too far. She immediately summoned the wind at her back to deal with him in case he had powers, which he probably did in order to shoot that far. Reckless as usual, it never occurred to her that openly threatening someone that just killed a man was a bad idea. "Outside the Haven, was that you?" she asked. With the Heartless running around, the last thing the worlds needed was a murderer running loose. And a murderer, she could actually deal with. |

The click of a gun cocking was loud in the quiet stairwell. The pistol pressed against the girls stomach, attached to a device that had concealed it in his sleeve. He sighed as he met her gaze, "Miss, I really don't want to kill you. My client would be upset if anyone unrelated were to be involved. I'm simply a business man. I don't kill because I enjoy it, it's simply the job of a mercenary. Now then, if you would be so kind as to release me and forget this happened," he said, pressing the gun harder into her stomach, "I would be very grateful." |

Chizu scowled as she felt the gun pressed to her stomach. She glared at the man. So that was how he was going to play, wasn't he? She glanced down at her own hand, which was just a few inches from the man's neck. The wind around that hand suddenly moved, forming into a blade. He wouldn't see it, unless he was looking carefully, but he would be able to feel the point of it just at his neck, below his chin. If he shot her, she'd probably die. But if her hand slipped, so would he. "Go ahead," she muttered, her tone low and threatening, "Try it." Mercenary or not, what had happened back there was wrong. But the fact that someone else asked him to do it made it a lot more complicated. Now that she thought about it, she really didn't have much of a plan, besides, catching a murderer. And doing what...calling the police? Her hand went to her pocket, where she kept her cellphone, hovering just over her pocket for a moment as she watched him. |

Koori sighed, and pulled the trigger. A rubber bullet slammed into her abdomen with enough force to push her back enough for him to move. He sidestepped and moved forward, making to slam the butt of his gun into the back of her head to knock her out. She was uninvolved, and if he had his way, she would stay that way. |

"Oof," said Chizu as the blow knocked her back, knocking the wind out of her. Her hand slipped, the wind blade along with it, but if it cut at all, it wouldn't be fatal. Probably nothing more than a small scratch on the underside of his chin. Chizu stumbled backwards, one arm wrapping around her stomach. The other arm swept out, sweeping his arm away before it could bring the pistol's butt down on her head. She froze in place for a moment, glaring at the man. "Give me one good reason why I should let you walk away with murder," she said, "Besides the fact that someone else paid you to pull the trigger." Chizu's eyes smoldered with anger. She couldn't stand people that killed in cold blood. Too many of her own friends and relatives had been lost that way, and if she had a choice, she would make sure that it never happened to her or anyone else ever again. She was confident in her own fighting skills. If it came to blows, she felt she had a good chance. |

Koori sighed, "Ah, to be young and naive. How do you know it was murder and not justice? I happen to know that vampire you saw die killed hundreds of people. My clients closest friends and family included. They and many others have suffered for his ambitions. So tell me, can you still say it was wrong to take his life? I could have taken your life just now. Only half of these bullets are rubber. The rest are explosive. I could have easily put you out of my misery. But I didn't, because you know nothing of what is going on. Now then, if you would please excuse me, I'm on a tight schedule." he said, backing away while keeping the gun pointed at the girl. |

Chizu glared at him, holding her ground. She didn't move, either away or towards him, but her eyes weren't fixed on the barrel of his gun. Rather, they were fixed on his face. If he had told her anything else, she would have attacked, and damn the consequences. But he had implied one of the only two motives for killing that Chizu could tolerate--vengeance. Because, when it came to that, her hands were not totally clean. True, she hadn't killed Kaito, but that was only because she realized that killing him would be pointless--his only reason for killing her sister was vengeance of his own, and Chizu didn't want to be part of that cycle. But if Kaito's reason had been anything else...if he had murdered her out of cold blood, only one of them would have walked out of that graveyard alive. Chances were, it wouldn't have been Kaito. She hated it, but she could understand it. So, at length, she looked away. "Keh, whatever," she said. "Get out of my sight." That should have been the end of it. Heck, normally that would have been the end of it, if it wasn't for the fact that the shadows in the stairwell suddenly began to move, dark shapes coming out of them. Chizu's eyes widened and she looked around. Here? Now?!? "Shit," she said as Shadow Heartless jumped out of the darkness, coming for them. Chizu moved forward quickly, her hand cutting through the air in an arc. A blade of wind followed it, slicing through the first Shadow to attack her. |

Oh come on. was the last coherent thought in Koori's head before the creatures were upon him. Luckily, they were slow and stupid. In a flash, another pistol was in his hand, and he was blasting away, each shot striking a lethal hit. It was soon clear that he had lied about the rubber bullets. There had only been one from the start. Koori began backing away, back up the stairs. Then his ammo ran out. Dang it! He stamped his feet, and hidden knife blades came out of the toes of his boots. As he reloaded, he lashed out with his feet at any Heartless that got too close. 'Their numbers are increasing! came the voice in his ear piece. "I know, Wolf!" he shouted back. "Hey Girly, can you clear a way to the roof? I can get us out from there if you can." he said, capping two more Heartless as he spoke. |

"You and me both," said Chizu, running past the man towards the stairs that were heading up. She didn't miss the fact that he seemed to shout at plain air, but she wasn't one to talk. Not when she had one wind elemental companion that wasn't going to go away anytime soon. She ran up the first two stairs, her eyes narrowing as she focused on the wind. One of the nice things about being an aeromancer was that there was air everywhere, and one of the nice things about being indoors was that she didn't have to disrupt any natural wind patterns just to get a weapon in her hands. Of course, the disadvantage of being indoors was that there was really not much she could do when it came to mobility. But in this case, the disadvantage applied to both her and the enemy. "Might wanna cover your eyes," she tossed back towards the man as the wind whipped around her. Chizu let loose a blast of wind that rippled outwards from her, cutting through the Heartless on the stair itself and pushing them to the sides. The blast was blunt, but it was effective, acting like a bulldozer as it rudely shoved all the Shadows aside. The wind scattered up dirt behind her, that could possibly get into the man's eyes if he hadn't taken her advice. Before they could come back up, Chizu ran up the stairs, taking them two at a time. She spun around, kicking one of the Shadows away from her as it came in. Chizu reached up, her hands seemingly closing around nothing as her face contorted in effort. She let out a shout of effort and pulled her hands apart. A cracking sound echoed through the building as the Heartless on the next set of stairs seemed to get pushed aside again, clearing them a path. "Let's go!" she said, running. "And don't call me Girly. It's Chizu." |

Koori laughed at her comment, which turned into a cough as he turned around and ran through a wall on dust. When he cleared the cloud, he saw the Heartless smashed against the wall and whistled softly, realizing what her power must be. So that's what that clear blade was. "Well, Chizu, it seems you have quite the ability. Though it appears your still working on fine tuning it," he commented, capping a couple of Shadows that were still alive. |

"Well, now that we understand the obvious..." said Chizu sarcastically at the man's comment about her ability. She knew that her control of the wind lacked finesse. It was a failure in her training. But then again, it wasn't as if she had a choice. She always told the old man to skip the techniques and get straight to the power, because that was what she needed here and now. She regretted it now. Now that she was fighting practically a full-scale war against the Heartless, she wished that she had the finesse to do some of the things that Aether had been trying to teach her--like using the wind to listen in on conversations far away, or to detect movement in an area. Things like that would definitely have come in handy. As it was, she would just have to make do with what she had. She let out a shout as she launched herself into a flying kick at the two Shadows that blocked the door to the roof. Chizu elbowed another that came at her, sending it flying away as she landed on the rooftop. She quickly spun around to face the door, sending a blast of air into the stairwell just moments after the man stepped onto the rooftop as well. The blast of air knocked back any Heartless near the door, giving her just enough time to slam it shut. "Go!" she said, looking back sharply towards the edge of the roof. |

"Working on it," Koori said, tapping on his ear piece, "Wolf, where are you?" "I'm right behind you," said a young woman's voice from behind them. He turned around to see a girl of maybe sixteen or seventeen standing above the door to the stairs. She was fairly cute, with long black hair and and dark eyes, but there were two things odd about her. One was that she had a wolf's ears and tail, the other was that she war see-through. "What are you doing?" he asked, exasperated, "Get up here, we're in a hurry." "Are you sure?" she replied, glancing at Chizu. Koori sighed, "It's fine. It's not like she'll know what it is anyway." The girl shrugged, "If you say so." She flickered, then vanished. A moment later, the building began to shake, and a fifteen foot tall robot leaped onto the roof. When it landed, the chest opened to reveal a cockpit just large enough for Koori. He got in and the chest plates closed again. Then the robot's hand extended toward Chizu, palm up. "Get on," he said. |
