"I'm just making sure you're all right. Those things that went inside you are nanobots. They're gonna take care of any injuries your legs might have experienced. I saw you were kinda stumbling before." Areno replied as he turned the ignition key, starting up the bike. "I see..." Lavender replied. "Were those things part of you then?" The aeromancer asked as she and the cowboy found themselves now cruising down a freeway, the artificial lighting of the colony creating a semblance of sunlight. It didn't take long for Lavender to realize that the pain in her legs were fast subsiding. So it seemed the man wasn't lying after all. "So what's your name then? I'm guessing this will be an appropriate time to ask right? I'm Areno Kemuri. Mercenary, bodyguard and your humble employee for the right price." The cowboy spoke above the roar of the wind as Lavender's amethyst locks billowed behind her. "I'm Lavender Smith. Schoolteacher and special agent," the purple-haired Esper replied. "So, Areno-san... where next?" |

Areno nodded, "They weren't at first, but I dunno, something inside of me has caused them to evolve into some kind biomechanical organism. I used to have newer ones installed, but now they basically just reproduce and grow on their own." Areno loosened up on the throttle as he took a turn on the highway that slowly seemed to dip down. "It's a pleasure to meet you Lavie." said Areno, looking over his shoulder briefly before turning his eyes back to the road, "And as for where we're heading, your guess is as good as mine. But I'll try this next turn off and see where it takes us." Areno turned the bike down a turnpike and off of the highway. The cowboy's hat now was rest on his shoulders while the drawstring pulled against his neck as he went against the wind. His silver haired rustled and he couldn't help but consider what was going on. Stealing a bike and picking up a random woman on the street who apparantly wasn't a local and whom he had kinda invaded... Well it would make for an interesting story to tell people. "I think you should be about healed by now. Lemme get my boys out of you." A strange sensation would course through Lavender, starting at her legs, then moving up into her torso and then eventually her arms. What would appear to be a mercury like liquid would start coming out of Lavender's arms and moving towards Areno, where it would dissappear beneath his skin. |

Areno nodded before answering Lavender's question, "They weren't at first, but I dunno, something inside of me has caused them to evolve into some kind biomechanical organism. I used to have newer ones installed, but now they basically just reproduce and grow on their own." The revving of the bike's engine softened a little as he loosened his grip on the throttle, maneuvering a bend along the highway that seemed to dip slightly in a downward slope. Lavender listening in on Areno's tale with interest - self-replicating nanomachines, truly an amazing technological breakthrough. Although frightening at the same time; after all, she had read of 'Grey Goo' doomsday scenarios where speculatively, nanomachines go out of control and convert everything on earth into a giant blob of nanites; and not to mention that time she watched the remake (Starring Keanu Reeves) of The Day the Earth Stood Still. "It's a pleasure to meet you Lavie." Areno looked briefly over his shoulder at Lavender; a nod and a cordial smile from the aeromancer told Areno that the feeling was mutual before he turned his attention back to the road ahead as he left the highway via a turnpike, his cowboy hat now resting on his shoulders, the drawstring pulled against his neck. "My sentiments exactly, Areno," the amethyst-haired aeromancer added. "I think you should be about healed by now. Lemme get my boys out of you." Lavender had almost forgotten about the nanomachines Areno planted in her body to heal her, and now that he mentioned it... it was hard to describe what she felt next, but Lavender could feel something moving within her, starting from the legs before working its way up her torso, and finally through her arms. Before her eyes a mercury-like liquid seeped out of her skin, creeping down her hands before being reabsorbed into Areno's body. Lavender giggled at Areno's statement, it appears that Freud was right when for a fleeting moment she constructed in her mind a line about Areno having 'gotten into her'. The amethyst-haired aeromancer certainly got a good laugh out of it. "And again, thank you," Lavender thanked Areno for his assistance a pair of fractured legs would've been quite a pain to get by, and for one who spends this much time on the front lines, the very thought would've been torturous. |

"Don't sweat it. It's no bother. The nanobots do what I tell em, because well, they kinda are me now." Areno's hands were still on the throttle, finding a long stretch of straight road and deciding to gun it for a bit, narrowing his eyes due to the increased wind resistance, meanwhile his hair was ripping around even faster than it was before. However, after a while, the road became less of a publicly used one and more of a suburban one. Areno slowed the bike down, stopping it in front of the entrance to a park and children's playground that was only occupied by a few people. Pulling out the kickstand out and letting the bike rest, he waited for Lavender to dismount. "Sorry for the trip, but I kinda commendeered this bike so I might be in trouble right about now." Areno suddenly felt the edges of his foreboding boredom approaching. With the fight against the giant robot done with... "What now?" he asked looking at Lavender. |

"Don't sweat it. It's no bother. The nanobots do what I tell em, because well, they kinda are me now." Areno replied as the two of them cruised down a long straight road, his hair whipping around in the wind. After going further down the road, it became less of a main road and more of a suburban lane, and the first thing Lavender noticed was that they had arrived in a neighborhood. The bike slowing down and coming to a halt at the entrance to a park which also had a children's playground. It appeared that their ride had come to an end as Areno pulled out the kickstand and rested the bike. "Sorry for the trip, but I kinda commendeered this bike so I might be in trouble right about now." He commented as Lavender dismounted. Either way things didn't work out in their favor - staying behind after defeating that mecha Heartless was out of the question, but then it wasn't exactly the wisest move to ride off on a commandeered bike either. "What now?" He asked the purple-haired Esper. Lavender looked up at Areno, missing his question momentarily as she had been busy finding out her newly-healed legs were holding up. So far, so good - the effects had been nothing short of miraculous - it was as if the injury had never happened. "Hmm?" Lavender finally caught on. "I suppose we leave the bike here for its owner to pick it up and continue on foot then?" Lavender suggested, gesturing towards the park entrance. With the space colony being such a large place, it would take a while for the authorities to locate them - so the aeromancer saw no need to look for the nearest Cross Gate and high-tail it this soon. Better to take it easy and blend in among the populace. |

Areno nodded, bringing out the bike's kickstand and dismounting it. "That would be the best idea I guess. If folks like this can build a space colony, I'm sure a GPS tracking device for a bike should be a cinch for em." Areno pulled up his hat and adjusted it on his head. The cowboy walked a little towards Lavender, palcing his hand on his hip and raising the other one up, motioning with it while he talked. "I don't think I got the chance to properly thank you Lavie. I mean, freaking car-robots, high speed escapes. Kinda makes you forgot courtesy I guess." Areno laughed, before looking around, "Come on, let's get outta here before someone realises it's a stolen bike." Areno turned around and began to walk into the little park, passing a mother pushing her child on the swings in what he could only assume was one of the playgrounds in the large park. Right now, he just wanted to head to the other side of the damn place and get as far away from the bike as possible. It was still in good condidtion, so he doubted the owner would issue search warrants or anything. |

"That would be the best idea I guess. If folks like this can build a space colony, I'm sure a GPS tracking device for a bike should be a cinch for em." Areno replied as he dismounted the bike, putting back on his cowboy hat and adjusting it a little before moving closer towards Lavender, resting a hand on his hip while gesturing with another as he spoke. "I don't think I got the chance to properly thank you Lavie. I mean, freaking car-robots, high speed escapes. Kinda makes you forgot courtesy I guess." The cowboy laughed a little before looking around. "Come on, let's get outta here before someone realises it's a stolen bike." If it was any consolation for the bike's owner, at least Areno managed to keep the thing in one piece. Hopefully that would stop the owner from pursuing the matter once his bike was recovered. Otherwise, they could expect the authorities to start combing the entire colony for two wanted figures. "That would be a sound plan," Lavender replied as she and Areno entered the park, walking down the footpath. At this hour the park mostly empty, the only sounds being the calls of various birds, as well as gentle squeaking noise made by a swing with a child riding on it, pushed from behind by his mother. A commercial district, an open highway, and now a park in the middle of a residential suburb - it was really easy to forget they were on a space colony. "Did you mention earlier something about yourself being a mercenary by trade?" Lavender asked as they passed the children's playground. |

Areno nodded, "I did. It was the main line, but every job was different. Killing, smuggling, guarding, shipping. I've seen it all." Areno slid his hands into his pockets as he walked beside Lavender further into the park, the walkways looking all very much the same as the next one. "I was kinda a high classed experimental subject when I was younger, so I was always busy doing something. The nanobots were used to harvest, examine, test and utilize a large energy source deep inside me. But like I said, they slowly fused with my cells and became techno-organic beings that replicate themselves and form sort of a colony in my body." Areno raised the tip of his hat a bit, looking forward and up at the artificial sky. "I'd never seen the light of day until I escaped when I was 13. I soon hooked up with some mercenaries afterwards due to them raiding this warehouse I was holding out in. After that, I got recruited and shortly after, life became repetitive and boring. Once you see a couple people die, it's not as exciting anymore." Areno turned and grinned at Lavender, "But that's when I got spat out into this multiverse. Talk about a boredom killer!" |

"I did. It was the main line, but every job was different. Killing, smuggling, guarding, shipping. I've seen it all." Areno replied as he walked beside Lavender, hands in his pockets. For now, they were just taking a casual stroll, heading nowhere but further into the park and the surrounding quaint suburbs - with the occasional jogger passing them, but no one spared them so much more than a glance. A gun for hire - Lavender's had her fair share of encounters with mercenaries; having both fought against them as well as alongside them during her time in GLADIUS, so Areno's background wasn't really that surprising to hear - smuggling, killing, guarding, etc... pretty standard mercenary stuff. However, when Areno got to his personal history Lavender's ears perked up attentively. "I was kinda a high classed experimental subject when I was younger, so I was always busy doing something. The nanobots were used to harvest, examine, test and utilize a large energy source deep inside me. But like I said, they slowly fused with my cells and became techno-organic beings that replicate themselves and form sort of a colony in my body." E'S experimentation - both the OASIS Foundation and other organizations in her world had been experimenting with ways to utilize E'S energy in more efficient and powerful ways; some of such experiments are public knowledge and government-sponsored, but most of them are underground and forbidden on the grounds of violation of human (and Others) rights. "I'd never seen the light of day until I escaped when I was 13. I soon hooked up with some mercenaries afterwards due to them raiding this warehouse I was holding out in. After that, I got recruited and shortly after, life became repetitive and boring. Once you see a couple people die, it's not as exciting anymore." That part from Areno brought a smile to Lavender's face and warmth to her heart - so despite being raised as a killing machine Areno proved that he had a heart that was all too human. "But that's when I got spat out into this multiverse. Talk about a boredom killer!" Areno looked at Lavender with a grin on his face. "Indeed," Lavender replied, nodding. "I've been to the corners of the globe in my day, but suddenly there's one big world out there; I wouldn't exactly call saving the multiverse a 'fun' thing, but it does have its pleasures," the aeromancer chuckled, wondering if Areno had that jaded worldview mercenaries all share, and whether if he'd find the whole 'heroic' mindset of hers naive. |

Areno chuckled. "Well Lavie, I'm gonna let you deal with that saving the world gig. Unless I'm getting paid, it's really not my style. Personally, I like how things turned out. I've got quite a couple of worlds to still explore and I'm hust hoping they dun dissapear before I get to 'em." Areno continued to walk down the park, before spotting a a fountain, where several paths converged. Stopping and looking at the monumental fountain he gave off a whistle. "Whoa, this co-ordinators sure know how to dress things up don't they?" Areno let his hat fall back, the drawstring now pressing against his neck. "So Lavender tell me, where'd you find that get-up?" Areno was of course referring to her uniform. Was she military or something? |

I've got quite a couple of worlds to still explore and I'm hust hoping they dun dissapear before I get to 'em." Areno chuckled at Lavender's statement as the two of them continued their walk in the park; gradually, a fountain loomed into view, at a point where several paths converged. "Pretty," Lavender commented as Areno paused to take a look at the fountain, apparently erected as a monument for some historical event. "Whoa, this co-ordinators sure know how to dress things up don't they?" Areno commented, his hat falling back. "So Lavender tell me, where'd you find that get-up?" "Oh, this?" Lavender asked as she turned up the collar of her Arcadian field uniform - which was essentially her GLADIUS field uniform except bearing Arcadia's black/white theme instead of being completely black. "I came up with the design, GLADIUS on the other hand tailored it for me based on said design. You've got a pretty snazzy style yourself too - that look's a real classic." Lavender commented on Areno's cowboy-themed outfit. |

Areno raised up the end of the one side of his coat. "Why thank you. I dunno, the stores didn't have anything that pertained to my taste in both in style and functionality. I had everything I'm wearing now custom made. It kinda fits in with my powers, every gun is custom." It Lavender would observe, what would have originally been considered a leather coat, was actually leather covering a layer of kevlar. The lower sections of the pants were also made in the same fashion. "It's never failed me, and the best part is, I never need to get it repaired. The nanomachines can repair any damage caused by it, given they have enough time. So I guess we're both people who know exactly what they want." Areno let the tail of the coat drop before walking over to Lavender. "Besides, there's one thing that westeners have over the Japanese in regards to my outfit concept. It's extremely stylish when I spin and," Areno spun around, sending coat flying up and around him, before he levelled an empty pistol he'd just formed at the fountain, "Take aim. See what I mean?" Areno turned smiling at Lavender and letting the pistol dissolve back into his skin. |

"To be free from the worries of a wardrobe malfunction is always a good thing!" Lavender replied, giggling at the thought. It was at this point the aeromancer realized that what appeared at the first glance was a leather coat actually turned out to be kevlar, cleverly designed to give the appearance and texture of leather - then again, his line of work probably involved getting shot at a lot. Lavender wowed as Areno did a cool move, spinning around and forming an empty pistol to aim at the fountain, the ends of his coat flapping from the movement. "Take aim. See what I mean?" "I see... like this?" Lavender spun around, and in a deft motion drew her USP Compact from its holster and leveled its muzzle at the fountain, her coat flapping behind her as she spun. The aeromancer turned back to face Areno, a smile on her face as she twirled her sidearm by the trigger guard before replacing it into its holster. |

Areno tilted his hat upwards, very impressed at how easily Lavender had just copied his manuever. "You ain't half bad Lavie. If we were back on Earth, I might just steal you from that organisation yah work fer and have yah ceom be a mercenary with me." Actually, that wouldn't be half a bad idea. Areno was suer with some practice and a couple of failed attempts his nanobots could maybe control or reprogram someone's brain. However, he then moved towards one of the nearby benches. Although it was the middle of the day or so, the climate was very pleasant and the articificial sun didn't burn like the real one at all. Areno smiled, "Say Lavie, I got something I think you may like." She obviously knew her way around firearms considering she was able use his custom rifle in the past battle. Areno began to form another gun, this one looking like a bulky machine-gun that ate several pocket-knives. He then handed it over to Lavender, "See if you can find all the weapons on that fella over there. It's my personal weapon that I use when I don't know what I'm up against." |

"You ain't half bad Lavie. If we were back on Earth, I might just steal you from that organisation yah work fer and have yah ceom be a mercenary with me." Areno replied, tilting his hat upwards. Lavender giggled at Areno's comment - it was a short burst of laughter, but a pretty intense one that had the amethyst-haired aeromancer doubling over. "Cute, Areno. Real cute," Lavender remarked as she straightened back up. "I'll take it as a compliment. But on the flip side, how about if I hire you as my bodyguard instead?" Lavender shot Areno a playful grin. "Good wages, and enough excitement to last ten lifetimes." Lavender followed Areno as the mercenary moved towards one of the nearby benches - one of the good things about a space colony was that the climate was artificially-created to be as comfortable to its denizens as possible, so there was no such thing as foul weather; such as thunderstorms or scorching sun. "Say Lavie, I got something I think you may like." Areno said as he smiled at Lavender, who watched attentively as the mercenary formed another weapon - which at the first glance resembled a bulky machine gun. "See if you can find all the weapons on that fella over there. It's my personal weapon that I use when I don't know what I'm up against." Areno said as he handed it over to Lavender. "Well, at the first glance it reminds me of an OICW," Lavender replied as she first held the weapon in her hands to gauge its weight and balance - an important factor behind accuracy, followed by the ergonomics such as its sights, trigger and grip. "A modular design that allows secondary weapon options to be added to it based on tactical requirements, as well as optics and other accessories. Truly a weapon for 3rd-generation armed forces." Lavender commented as she aimed through its optics. "But yeah, I've handled more than just several firearms back in my time," Lavender continued. "From my experience, German arms are all-around top performers, Russian arms are legendary for their reliability and robustness, and American arms have a history of legendary greats and abysmal failures." |
