Noel

"Wow! This place is amazing!" he heard Yumi say right after they stepped into his office. Actually, when Noel thought about it, it did look much more like a really modern comfortable apartment, yet this was supposed to be his office when he was away from home. He had more such offices in other countries of the world, where he traveled to when he was on Official business, but he didn't want to mention that as it would definitely look like he was boasting. "Hehe, no kidding!" came Selene's response, followed by a whistle; Noel realized with surprise that even the Briton, who was used to posh receptions and luxurious apartments was obviously taken aback by the sight. That made his mind return to the point in his memory, when he received the title of the Team Leader and was given the key to this and all the other apartments he owned; when he stepped into the first one of them, which happened to be right this one, he almost fainted. Of course he almost instantly refused to have such an office and asked for something way more humble, but the Leader of the ONB organization, who was the only person above him, told him he ought to take it as it has been turned over from one leader to another.

"You will accept all the privileges you've been given, Noel. But remember: With great power comes great responsibility. I've chosen you to become the Leader because I trust you will do your job as you're supposed to. Do not fail me." rang the words of the ONB Leader in Noel's mind as he followed Yumi and Selene towards the couches. He knew he will not forget these words for all eternity and he could almost hear himself eagerly replying how he will do everything in his power to do good and purge the evil from this world once and for all.

As his two guests sat down on the two of the sofas, looking around the office, he asked them if they wanted anything to drink. "Thank you, a glass of juice would be great."

Noel nodded. "A glass of juice, coming right up," he repeated. "And what'd you like, Selene?" he asked politely, looking at the other girl. "You don't happen to have any tea, would you?" the Briton asked. "Preferably Ceylonese, but any type of black tea would do. And please keep the tea leaves and water separate. And of course, don't forget the milk and sugar." Noel listened with a smile on his face as Selene began to talk again; it seemed like she was a very open and talkative person, constantly debating about this and that, not even the smallest detail escaping her trained eye. Noel took that as a plus; if they were to cooperate in the future, he was happy to have an ally like that. On a less business oriented side, he had to admit that he was quite impressed by Selene's manners and aristocratic behavior; they outmatched even that of Kingland's royal family. And not only that - Selene kept up her friendly and nice attitude the entire time since they met and despite how common it may have sounded, Noel knew such quality was much rarer as it appeared on the first sight. Because everything Noel could see when looking into her eyes occasionally, was true and sincere kindness, something that he seldom saw in other people's eyes.

"I'll see what I can do," he replied to Selene with a smile, before turning around and walking through one of the doors, that apparently led to a kitchen. He didn't really have to prepare the drinks himself. There was a machine in the corner of the kitchen, which allowed him to simply select a drink, which was then conjured in nothing more than a few seconds, appearing on a small plastic shelf for him to take. Despite it being prepared quite quickly, it still gave Noel some time to loosen up a bit, before he took the two glasses and a cup, going back into the main room.

Putting the two glasses of juice on the table, one down in front of Yumi and the other one in front of the spot where he was going to sit, he smiled at Selene as he placed the cup of tea before her: "It's tea, it's black and it's supposed to be Ceylonese, but you'll have to rate it yourself. I'm not much of a tea conjurer, but I have to say Drink Machines as we call them are doing quite a good job," he smiled. Finally sitting down on the third sofa, the two girls almost immediately asked him: "Noel... just who exactly ARE you?" "I mean, you've been getting quite the hero's welcome around here, you must be doing something important around here isn't it?"

Taking a sip from his juice and placing it back on the table, Noel leaned back against the comfortable fabric of the orange sofa. Looking from one girl to another, he finally started: "You've probably seen my badge down in the entrance hall." Taking out his Personal Terminal once again, he clicked a few buttons so that the holographic projection appeared again. He put the PET on the table so that they'd be able to see the symbol more clearly before he continued: "NS stands for NetSavior. It's the highest ranking an Official Net Battler can achieve, usually for doing something great." Pausing for a second, he looked down. "I've done nothing too great. I've joined the Official Net Battlers 3 years ago, a few days after my 15th birthday, and since the days I joined, I vowed myself to do good for the world," he said. "Since then, I had been slowly making my way up the ladder. Working for the ONBs, government organization, whose main job is to keep the world in peace, has been more of a natural thing, something that I knew I had to do, rather than simply a way to make a living."

Making a slight pause, he continued: "Once, it happened that I saved a fellow ONB, who was on elite ONB team, called Team Elpizo. The team had 10 members, five main and five backup, and a leader, Elpizo, after whom the team was named. After saving that member, Elpizo himself asked me if I wanted to be on the team and of course I accepted, honored that I was given a chance to be on the Elite team. There are more than 40 million ONB Officers in the world; you can imagine how lucky I was to have made it into the team, and only by coincidence! Of course the team works in such a way that it ensures every member of the team is really one of the top in the world. Having gotten into the team without actually beating anyone first, I was still to prove I was good enough to be on the team. Elpizo believed I was capable enough, having rescued a team member, but other team members were looking at me suspiciously all the time."

He could almost remember a Main team member by the name of Mike Palladino come up to him, saying he was just a newbie, a lucky number that got the position without deserving it first. He remembered Mike telling him he was going to lose the position in a few days, when it became clear he was not worth it. "Days passed, and I remained on the team. People challenged me for my position, but I was able to beat all of them. What was more, I challenged a main team member and won, taking up the spot of one of the top 5 Official Net Battlers of the world. You wouldn't believe it, but the other team members still didn't like me too much. I tried to be friendly to them and to work with them as a whole, as a team, which we in essence were, yet they didn't really mind me at all. It was then, that the world's crisis arose. Tantalus, world's greatest criminal organisation attacked all main ONB bases at once," Noel narrated. He shivered slightly as he remembered that day. "I came up with a plan that would be able to stop them, but none of them listened to me. When the most vital moment came, they did the exact opposite of what I've said. They ran into a trap."

Continuing with his narration, Noel told them how he managed to get to the Tantalus' leader and confront him on his own. After defeating him, his minions were without the lead, yet they were dangerous enough to harm his team mates. He told them how he organized the ONB forces he had available to besiege the ONB headquarters, drawing the enemies out and defeating them one after another. "After that, they began to trust me more.. I was given the NetSavior rank for that, the one you see in front of me. It's really nothing much, I was just doing my job.." he said, looking away.

"I'm not going to tire you with boring stories anymore.. To make the long story short, I've challenged leader Elpizo for his position after he was incapable of dealing with two similar situations to the one I've described. Since then, I'm the Team Leader of the elite ONB force and the team has been renamed Buster Team." he finished the story.

"As much as it looks like a perfect story and makes me look like some sort of a hero, I can tell you once again that I'm definitely not one. I was just doing my job, I was at the right place at the right time to get into the team and after that, I've just continued doing my best to keep the peace in our world. I've always done everything I could to defeat the criminals that threatened to destroy us and I've done all I could to save the innocents. And despite these strange Heartless creatures threatening to destroy this world, I just know we will be able to stop them. Yet... A strong belief does not make person a hero."

Leaning back against the sofa, he sighed. The story he told them was quite long and he could see the sun had already set in the meantime. He had so many more things to tell them, and what was even more important, he had even more things to ask them. Yet, after the long story, he figured they had quite a few questions and he wanted to give them the opportunity to say something rather than continue with his infinite blabber about his past.

Looking from one to another, he made a mind apologetic smile, before adding just one thing that couldn't escape his mind: "I didn't really ask for an office like this. It was Elpizo's before me and it has been given to me after I claimed the position. I definitely don't need an apartment as expensive and luxurious as that."

The Middleman (stubborn, yet relaxed)
(OOC: Lawman said that as long as my physical person isn't around, I can do this sort of thing.)

"As always, your modesty is unnerving and a bit questionable, Noel." A dry, depressed voice said over a nearby electronic speaker, as a pair of ceiling panels slid away from each other a few feet away to reveal a block-like hole. And from that hole slid down a upside-down video projector, automated by pistons and pulleys to straighten and flip it over so the image would be corrected.

All the lights dimmed at the same time, and the window shades slid down, so that the room would be properly darkened. A few seconds later, a 3-Dimensional hologram of Steve Hurr in his labcoat appeared before Noel, both hands in his pockets. He studied the two girls with a sharp glance before facing Noel sternly, yet with strong respect.

"Steve Hurr, aka SH, reporting in, sir. I would have come here in person, yet I know that there is still a death warrant on my head for heavy property damage during the Four Horsemen attack on this city. I am currently standing inside the new and improved Chaos Union base, using a Holo-Vid to communicate despite time differences." Taking a deep breath, he continued on.

"I have heard from the higher-ups that you had came over to Heaven's City for a investigation, although I don't know what you will get out of there. So, essentially I'm just going to brief you on what our field agent, who doesn't know he's being monitored, has got for us on the Heartless Crisis, as well as fill you in on current events related to the attack on ACDC town. Is that okay with you, sir?"

"I'll see what I can do," Noel said, taking their drink orders before disappearing for a remarkably short time into the kitchen. When he returned, it was with two juices for her and himself, and something that certainly looked liked what Selene had requested. "It's tea, it's black and it's supposed to be Ceylonese, but you'll have to rate it yourself. I'm not much of a tea conjurer, but I have to say Drink Machines as we call them are doing quite a good job."

This just presented yet another mystery to Yumi. They had machines on this world which created ready-made drinks? Well, come to think of it she knew there were cappuccino makers back in Hyakuji, but she had never heard of ready-made steaming tea appearing as though from a vending machine. It was rather impressive, but sort of artificial at the same time. One of the most important aspects about tea-making was allowing the drink to brew, after all, and this speeded-up process reminded her of instant coffee.

Then he finally got down to the business of answering their probing questions. And boy, when he got started on dissolving the mystery of his identity, he really got started. He began by explaining the significance of the badge that had attracted so much attention in the entrance hall, and had allowed them to queue-jump so easily. "NS stands for NetSavior. It's the highest ranking an Official Net Battler can achieve, usually for doing something great." Yumi wasn't quite sure how to react to this snippet of information; whether to be in awe at this grand deed that Noel had apparently done, or to think less of him for throwing around his extravagant titles so easily. For someone who prided herself on her people skills, Yumi was struggling to get a true reading of Noel's character.

By the time he was done talking, however, the girl thought she had a much better understanding of just who Noel was. He was so incredibly humble. He refused to take any credit whatsoever for the feats he had achieved, even those which were truly remarkable for someone of his young age. Everything he had earned, everything he had achieved, he dismissed it all without a second thought. It was almost as though he was disgusted with the good fortune he had received. That level of humility was astounding.

Yumi felt herself drawn to this man, liking him more with every word he said. She was deeply fascinated by each new revelation about his past. In some ways he was almost too humble, however. He needed to accept some credit where it was due; recognition of his feats and achievements. His self-esteem could definitely use some work. Yet on the other hand, he believed in himself so deeply. "...despite these strange Heartless creatures threatening to destroy this world, I just know we will be able to stop them. Yet... A strong belief does not make person a hero."

Yumi could not entirely agree. "I've always heard though that true courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the strength to carry on despite the fear. If that's the case, then can't the same be said about heroes? Heroism is not the proclamation of great deeds, but rather the quiet determination to achieve what must be done." She leaned back into the couch, feeling that she had just said something quite profound, and lost momentarily in the whirl of her thoughts.

"That's a pretty amazing life story you got there, Noel!" Yumi smiled up at the man. "I could tell you some pretty interesting tales myself from the last few weeks or months or however long it's been since Hyakuji was destroyed, but I'm not sure now is the time... I mean, I'm sure you guys would rather talk about the future, right? How we can save the worlds? Not that I have any of the answers we need..." The girl glanced uncertainly from Selene to Noel. She wasn't quite sure what would come next...

As it so happened, that decision was taken out of their hands... The room started moving on its own, lights dimming and a mysterious 3D projection of a person appearing out of nowhere. He seemed to be one of Noel's subordinates, and he came with a message for them. It appeared that he had some information for them about the heartless. Frankly, any update was a useful at this point. Yumi's ears perked up as she prepared to listen attentively to this Steve Hurr character's report.

"I'll see what I can do," Selene nodded as Noel disappeared into the kitchen; it only took a remarkably short while before he returned, with two glasses of juice and a cup of tea. "It's tea, it's black and it's supposed to be Ceylonese, but you'll have to rate it yourself. I'm not much of a tea conjurer, but I have to say Drink Machines as we call them are doing quite a good job."

Machines... did he say, machines? Selene thought as she took the cup of tea. They brew tea over here using machines? Now, Selene had heard of automatic coffee makers - but tea brewed from a machine? As far as the Briton was concerned, this just didn't feel right - she'd been exposed to tea cultures worldwide - British, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, etc. - but one thing about all of them is that a good cup of tea takes time and skill to brew! She wouldn't be caught dead drinking 3-in-1 tea mix, that's for sure. However, Selene knew better than to potentially offend her host, so with slight trepidation the young Briton picked up the cup, sniffed it a little, before taking her first sip.

"Hey... not bad," Selene smiled as she set the cup down upon the saucer, nodding her approval towards the steaming beverage. "Not the best cup of tea I've had... but I'd definitely rate it above average." Despite Frostfire Industries' position in her homeworld - before it was destroyed by the Heartless - as a leading developer of cutting edge technologies, Selene and her family were strong believers that in some aspects technology can never beat the human touch.

And next came the official business part, as Noel opened with a brief introduction of himself, shedding some light on what NS or Net Savior meant, which was apparently a position of prestige among the Official Net Battlers that had been conferred onto him as a reward for a great deed. And then Noel proceeded to give a summary of his life history, telling the two girls how he first came to join ONB shortly after he turned fifteen. Fifteen! Selene listened in on his tale with vested interest; he'd achieved this much at such an early age! However, for all his ability and achievement, this young man had the humble attitude to match - truly a textbook example for a messianic figure, if the Briton would say so herself.

Selene interlaced her fingers as she listened, nodding her approval at Noel's heroic spirit and noble heart. As Noel wrapped up his epic introduction with an uplifting speech about how he was confident he would stop the Heartless, Selene beamed at Noel as he settled back on the sofa, while Yumi spoke up. "I've always heard though that true courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the strength to carry on despite the fear. If that's the case, then can't the same be said about heroes? Heroism is not the proclamation of great deeds, but rather the quiet determination to achieve what must be done."

"Well, it seems the time spent with Jameson has caused his influence to rub off onto you, Yumi-san!" Selene gave the other girl a sunny smile, nodding at the wisdom in her words - Jameson did after all first introduce Yumi as his protege, so the Briton naturally assumed the detective must've done everything he could to teach her what being a hero is all about.

"That's a pretty amazing life story you got there, Noel!" Selene nodded at Yumi's comment as she continued. "I could tell you some pretty interesting tales myself from the last few weeks or months or however long it's been since Hyakuji was destroyed, but I'm not sure now is the time... I mean, I'm sure you guys would rather talk about the future, right? How we can save the worlds? Not that I have any of the answers we need..."

"True," Selene added. "I mean, as much as I'd like to share tales of my various adventures back in Hyakuji and as well as in the wake of this Heartless fiasco, but I think that could wait. And as for defeating the Heartless, back at Niwa I encountered a strange man who said something about-" Before the Briton could finish telling the other two about the key and the light the stranger told her about, the lights in the apartment suddenly dimmed and shades slid down to cover the windows. A projector flashed a holographic projection of a man who introduced himself as Steve Hurr.

Is that okay with you, sir?" ACDC Town... Selene was there during the attack, and she knew what she saw back there. But knowing the importance of one's manners the Briton sat back quietly, first letting Steve Hurr to speak before deciding what to say next.

Noel

As he finally finished with his long story, Noel leaned back on the sofa, listening to the wise words Yumi spoke: "I've always heard though that true courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the strength to carry on despite the fear. If that's the case, then can't the same be said about heroes? Heroism is not the proclamation of great deeds, but rather the quiet determination to achieve what must be done."

He had definitely not expected someone as young as she was, speak with such clear mind and wisdom. He was positively surprised by her opinion and he could not help but exclaim: "Such wise words, Yumi-san!" He made a warm smile. "That's a pretty amazing life story you got there, Noel!" Noel smiled humbly. "Well, thanks. Though I don't think it's much."

"I could tell you some pretty interesting tales myself from the last few weeks or months or however long it's been since Hyakuji was destroyed, but I'm not sure now is the time... I mean, I'm sure you guys would rather talk about the future, right? How we can save the worlds? Not that I have any of the answers we need..." Noel was a little disappointed; he had thought Yumi and Selene would be able to tell him what was going on. Nonetheless, as Selene continued, it seemed like she did have something more to say: "True.. I mean, as much as I'd like to share tales of my various adventures back in Hyakuji and as well as in the wake of this Heartless fiasco, but I think that could wait. And as for defeating the Heartless, back at Niwa I encountered a strange man who said something about-"

Noel had already leaned a bit closer, so that he could hear clearer what she was about to tell him, when her story was interrupted by the lights dimming and the shades covering the windows. Of course he knew that meant someone was reporting in to him and as soon as the holographic projection started and he saw the figure, he blinked twice, surprised. He hadn't heard from Officer Hurr in a while. Wondering what he was to tell him, he listened to him as he said: "Steve Hurr, aka SH, reporting in, sir. I would have come here in person, yet I know that there is still a death warrant on my head for heavy property damage during the Four Horsemen attack on this city. I am currently standing inside the new and improved Chaos Union base, using a Holo-Vid to communicate despite time differences."

A new Chaos Union base? The last one had been destroyed during the previous attack of the Arcadians and Noel was surprised to hear that a new one had already been established so fast. He figured Steve couldn't tell him about it sooner because he had problems contacting him because of the death warrant on his head.

Noel pondered his words for a second, before he replied: "Yes. Tell me everything you know, from the beginning." Leaning back against the sofa, he listened to what Officer Hurr was to tell him.

The Middleman (stubborn, yet relaxed)
"The beginning? Hmm....that's a tough one, boss, so I'll have to wing it with the information that I had gathered from my contacts. Which, BTW, funded the rebuilding of the ACDC Sports Stadium into the new CU base. As well as feeding Kyra enough trash so she could create the underground rooms for evacuees." SH said, bringing out a large stack of paperwork on top of a small red wagon. "Here we go:"

"According to records seized at the old WWW base, funded by the imprisoned Dr. Albert Wily, there was a bit of an 'accident' during the foundation of the original 3-Dimensional Cyber World, which we now call the Undernet due to the fact that it was the prototype Network. Fortissimo, as you know, was one of the most insane first navis to be on that stage, as well as Phyllo, who was designed by the Orochis to keep him in check. Both were filled with the power of darkness, and that alone empowered them to do whatever they wanted, including deletion of nearby networks."
"During one of their clashes, a small tear in the software opened, and as I quote 'a giant army of black bugs with antennae' poured out. The two were swiftly overtaken as the creatures evolved and mutated, yet the two valiantly fought against them with ease once they went under a temporary truce. Once the masses were forced to retreat back into the rip, which was the size of a football, the two combined their power to 'seal' the cut, but it was difficult to keep it together."

"Anyway, those two are not the problem anymore as far as I know. Recently, however, the area beneath the Undernet known as Black Earth had been 'tainted' by our latest threat: the Neo Arcadians. Our search drones, designed to move about in the dense miasma and darkness, had found Pantheon traces in that area. Turns out the rip has been opened. And it is now three miles in size. Needless to say, Black Earth is swarming with hundreds of thousands of Heartless. Of course, the Undernet has already put up a firewall to limit how many can go through at a time."

"Which brings us to the next part, a week after the rip reopened, a surge of about 200 Heartless Shadows decended in Dentown Internet, only to learn that the 50 or more navis could not 'become' like them. A small battle between the normal navis and them ensued, resulting in forcing the Heartless to retreat once realizing that there was no hearts to steal."

"Once this occurred, I sent out for Netto and Randy, as well as gave a temporary pardon to Nick in exchange for his scouting services. At the same time, I learned about a new threat that may or may not be responsible for the sudden incursion: The Nobodies. As you may be aware, the Nobodies once attacked our world two years ago, taking the form of ONB members who were once 'rogues' and 'villians'. One of them took the life of Brian Aurion, whom, I admit was a true friend to me. These new ones, on the other hand, seem more interested in the Heartless than us, yet recent evidence that we had gained off our unknowing spy has shown that they could control the Heartless to a limited degree so that we would kill them instead."

"As studies dictate, the Heartless that had attacked our actual world were...artifical? Is that the word? Anyways, although we had scanned the place clean, and captured one of the Heartless in a special jar of energy, Sci Labs concluded that the actual mind and body of the captured Heartless are 'missing'. So even though we cut down the Heartless, the human body would be unharmed. Instead, according to a video taken, a small red heart-like shape emerges from the dead husk and vanishes. We have Mr. Famous-"

"No need for formalities." Came Mr. Famous's voice over the loudspeaker, causing SH to look distempered by the interruption.

"As I was saying, 'him', Dr. Hikari and a crack team of scientists are working to create a subspace module to affix upon the test subject Heartless to track where the heart thing goes after it's artifical body is destroyed. I understand that Netto had somehow come across a odd looking spaceship, but he refused scientific study since it involved taking it apart. Regardless, sooner or later, world travelers (as Nick called them) will come with their own ships. But that's not the worst part. Oh no, it gets a lot more complicated."

I guess it'll take a while before Beka decides to return to RPing, so... gonna break the posting order for a change. I don't think that should do any harm seeing it's all dialog thus far.

"Yes. Tell me everything you know, from the beginning." Selene glanced briefly in Noel's direction as the NetSavior gave the go-ahead for Steve Hurr. The Briton herself leaned forward, paying her attention to whatever the agent was about to report on...

Or at least, she tried her best - it was rather easy to miss out on the details in Steve's report, especially with regards to a bunch of names, history and technical terms that she was unfamiliar, and at least twice Selene found herself holding back a yawn - it was a good thing she decided to have tea. But the details that she did catch were of interest. "I didn't know you guys actually did such detailed research on the Heartless," the Briton commented, more than a little surprised at how much they knew about those things. "But I suppose we do need to know more about this enemy rather than simply blasting them on sight." Selene had to admit that for the most part that had been Arcadia's policy regarding encounters with the Heartless - blow them away whenever they're encountered, and either summon backup or retreat if they are too powerful or too numerous.

"As studies dictate, the Heartless that had attacked our actual world were...artificial? Is that the word? Anyways, although we had scanned the place clean, and captured one of the Heartless in a special jar of energy, Sci Labs concluded that the actual mind and body of the captured Heartless are 'missing'. So even though we cut down the Heartless, the human body would be unharmed. Instead, according to a video taken, a small red heart-like shape emerges from the dead husk and vanishes. We have Mr. Famous-"

"Yes, I've noticed that myself too with slain Heartless," Selene confirmed Steve's findings, although for the longest time she wondered what it was whenever she saw the hearts appear from the remains of defeated Heartless. It was only quite recently that she became aware that more Heartless were created from their previous victims. "But Shadows are the exception though - I've never seen hearts emerge from them," the Briton mused.

"That's probably a Gummi Ship he got his hands on," Selene commented on what Steve Hurr said about Netto having an odd-looking spaceship. "They have a port at Traverse Town and they leave port to various destinations every 24 hours, if your timing is right, you might be able to catch one yourself to travel to worlds beyond this one," the Briton continued.

"Anyway, as I was saying," Selene paused briefly to finish the tea. "At Niwa I ran into one one of those Nobodies; I think he gave us a clue, though. He apparently said that those with the light and the key will have the power to stop the Heartless threat. I'm not sure how one gets those, but I've managed to get the light," the Briton retrieved her ritual dagger from her jacket's pockets and took it out of its sheath. Focusing her thoughts briefly, the dagger's blade began to shine with a brilliant golden light. "It apparently hurts the Heartless pretty badly," Selene said before putting it away.

Sorry guys! I know it's been FOREVER since I posted. I feel so bad XD Just with all the distractions of being in Africa and everything I lost my posting mojo for a while. Hopefully it's back now!

"Yes. Tell me everything you know, from the beginning." When Yumi heard those words, she realised they were in for a comprehensive report. Taking her cue from Noel, she too relaxed in her seat, leaning back into a comfortable listening position.

Before long, she was very glad that she had. This Hurr man's report was seemingly endless. Moreover, a large portion of it did not even seem to have any relevance to heartless at all, instead detailing much of this world's history. Yumi struggled to keep up with the multitude of references to people and places she had never heard of before. In the end though she decided it didn't really matter if she couldn't follow the report, or recite it back verbatim. After all, it was addressed to Noel. As long as he understood its relevance, that was all that was important. If that meant that she had to be a little bored in the meantime, then so be it.

After a while though, Steve Hurr began mentioning words that Yumi did recognise. Heartless. Nobodies. But most importantly - "Recently ... the area beneath the Undernet known as Black Earth had been 'tainted' by our latest threat: the Neo Arcadians." Yumi suddenly came to life from her stupor, spluttering in outrage and confusion. Was this man possibly insinuating that Neo Arcadia, that Yumi and Selene themselves, were threats to this world? That they were somehow attracting the heartless here? Could he truly be so ignorant? Did he not realise that the Arcadians merely responded to the danger after it appeared?

Yumi scowled. With that one statement this man had succeeded in falling into the girl's bad books. She was almost sorry he wasn't in the room with them so she could confront him properly. As it was, she herself was a guest here. Moreover, the annoying man was still far from done with his report, and Noel was still anticipating the rest of it. She sighed. There was nothing she could do at this point without appearing exceedingly rude. She would just have to wait until the report was finished and the holo-vid turned off, then clear things up with Noel herself. She would hate for him to be left with the wrong impression of Neo Arcadia. He had been wary enough of Selene and herself when they first met as it was.

As Steve Hurr went on to describe the research that this world's scientists had conducted on the Heartless in more detail, Yumi could not help but hold a begrudging interest in the report once more. That thing he said about the mind and body of the Heartless being 'missing', meaning that the only damage taken by a cut-down monster was a small red heart-like shape emerging from the dead husk - that was very interesting indeed. Yumi had not yet fought any of the creatures herself, so she couldn't confirm this with first-hand accounts - and she couldn't remember if the Heartless Jameson had defeated during their very first encounter had displayed this phenomenon.

"Yes, I've noticed that myself too with slain Heartless," Selene confirmed, to Yumi's mild surprise. Of course, the other girl had already been in several battles, so she didn't know why she was surprised at all. Perhaps it was shock at some of Hurr's report actually being accurate. Yumi was still seething about that Arcadia comment. "But Shadows are the exception though - I've never seen hearts emerge from them," Selene went on, causing Yumi to ponder why these different reactions existed. Ah, the mysteries of Heartless.

What Selene said next, however, had Yumi's jaw dropping in wonderment. The girl had always been sceptical of riddles, and she was about to scoff at this one with 'the key and the light', but she was silenced before she could even draw breath to begin. The Briton demonstrated first hand that the light, at least, did exist. And if one part of the riddle were true, then it followed that the other was too. But if that was the case, then it still left unanswered the question of purpose. The Heartless were creatures of darkness, so it made sense that a strong light would cause them pain. But a key... that was another matter. A key implied a lock. So what doors would these keys open for them? So many mysteries... so many unanswered questions. Yumi felt her newly-forming detective senses tingling. Things were getting interesting.

"That's... amazing Selene!" Yumi said breathlessly as she continued watching the light play against the ritual dagger. "But if you don't mind me asking, how did you come by this light? Maybe if we know that much, we could discover how to reveal the key as well... After all, it's only after we have the key in hand that we can begin to investigate its true use. If what that Nobody in Niwa told you is accurate, then we need to take full advantage of it. Anything that could help us defeat the Heartless once and for all should be embraced with open arms, don't you think?" Yumi wasn't sure if Hurr was done with his report or not - he had kind of paused on a cliffhanger - but she wasn't going to let him stop her from contributing to the discussion where she could.

The Middleman (stubborn, yet relaxed)
(OOC: Just so you know, Noel isn't coming back for a while due to college.)

One of the women made a weird face when he said 'Neo Arcadia', which was rather odd to say the least. Most people who heard of the infamous terrorists would quake in their boots. No matter, on with the report.

"Negative on the Key thing, my dear. We might as well set fire to a fireworks factory. And here is why." A 3-D picture of ancient ruins going back thousands of years was shown, with odd key symbols and heart shapes on the walls. "This was taken by our top researchers and translators, right before Taylor Steele, the man who essentially wrecked our world and practically owns the NetMafia, blew up our portal. According to the research complied, as well as the information from our spy, we have gained insight on a dangerous threat known only as 'Kingdom Hearts'."

"Apparently, this thing in question is made of lost 'World Hearts', that the Heartless had taken, surrounded by countless regular hearts that were stolen. One of the main collective battles had taken place in Beyondard, a parallel Earth that is the complete opposite of our world, with humans being under the control of beast-like navis. The survivors, who apparently had knowledge of these keyblades, warned of the dangers of using the weapon on Heartless. The hearts alone are made of pure emotion, but if taken from a evil person who does cruel things, the heart turns tainted and corrupt as a result. When placed into the collective, it is theorized that the other hearts will become tainted, and will attract innumerous Heartless as a result."

A picture of Xemnas along with a few of his Organization buddies appeared, from when he introduced himself to the Hyakuji members. "From what our spy recorded, the Nobodies, led by a man who refers to himself as Xemnas yet resembles another Nobody who once terrorized this world, he asked for cooperation on eliminating the Heartless with the Keyblades. Yet, as our studies show, it will not bring back any of the worlds or restore heartless back into humans as of late. Instead, it will just keep growing and growing according to the translations, a single entity made of collective thoughts and emotion, but incapable of doing anything constructive. The only solution is to hit Kingdom Hearts with the Keyblades, which is our only working theory at this time. If those Nobodies are doing what the ONB believes they are doing, their actions will surely backlash on them, making it top priority to prevent them from using that thing to begin with."

"Which brings me to the point that our world is getting ready to mobilize on all fronts. Red Cross for the injured and sick, the Church to convert and to gain followers, the WWE for the preservation of all animal life and to increase birth rates of the endangered, the NetMafia for 'protection money', Rogues for exploration and mapping of the worlds, and of course the ONB to spread out to search and destroy the Heartless. The governments of several wealthy nations are spending more than they need to, preparing for the next Heartless invasion, and the media is eating it up and worsening the crisis, printing out half-truths and terrorism news to stir up chaos within the general population. Even Faith, the navi leader of Neo Arcadia, has been assembling his navi forces to cut off all satellite imaging and communications from his land and Nation Z to prevent a sudden Heartless Network Infiltration."

"Most of this is completely political, as you understand Nick, and not even the Commissioner can fight back the foriegn policies that are going in to this mission. We are talking about hundreds of thousands of people about to be going offworld by that weird portal in ACDC Town, simply because there 'isn't enough land' for them to live on. There is also talks of adapting to new technologies, new set-ups of intelligence bureaus, trade organizations moving in, possible annexing, and of course some rioting since civilians think the end of the world is coming."

"Naturally, ACDC Town is a neutral zone for transfer, but I fear the worst for all of them. However, getting back to the Nobodies for the time being, there is a way to put them back together. Simply put, Netto, whom I selected, is on his way to find the people who are related to the Nobodies, and then have them face off. Being forged from the darkness of their own hearts, only the original person can successfully defeat his Nobody clone. Once taken down, the Nobody will have no choice but to accept his former self and reunite with him, merging the two souls back into one once more. Of course, once Netto succeeds with the plan with one of the Nobodies, we will know for sure if it can be done for the rest. I will keep you posted if any new information comes in."
