It's that time again....

No. I don't mean Thanksgiving Day. I means it's the time when SOMEONE has to make an obligatory MMORPG topic.

SO! Bored as I am, I decided to do it. Now then, what's everyone play? Personally, I play none at the moment, but I plan to get back to playing Perfect World and give ACE Online a try.

I'll take a crack at suggestions:

Ragnarok Online has always been my favorite. I play on Rebirth RO's private server which is mid-rate. On the con list I'd have to say that PVP and WoE are dominated by people decked out in full donation gear, but I'm having lots of fun anyways.

====

Dungeon Fighter Online is really really good if you want a different experience. It plays sort of like an arcade side-scrolling Brawler. Seriously. It's actually based on those two AD&D arcade games that Capcom made (Tower of Doom and Shadows of Mystaria?). If you're not familiar with those then think something like Double Dragon, Streets of Rage or the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade Game. Gameplay like that as an action RPG. You can even plug in a USB controller and map commands to it for a nice experience.

Cons are that there's no variation to your character model so you'll see 5836589353 copies of yourself just with different names. There are some unique avatar clothing but it costs real money to get. However, the game is just starting out from the earliest version and the original Korean version is further ahead so maybe that's fixed some.

====

I don't play a ton of 3d MMO's, just not my thing. I think the standard is World of Warcraft. Out of my own experience I'd vote on Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine Online. I'll have to say I am biased because SMT games are my favorite video games but there is a good deal of content in it. Even if you're not already a fan of SMT I can bet it'll be refreshing to have an apocalyptic futuristic setting for an MMO rather than the typical Fantasy thing 90% use. The demon (monster) as a partner in combat evokes a sort of mature Pokemon/Digimon concept and they've been adding cool stuff like getting motorbikes to ride around on.

Huge con for this (and the reason I rarely play it) is that the drop rate for getting rare items is rediculously LOW and leveling is rediculously SLOW. It's grind fest as early as the mid-20's in levels and gaining a single level feels like you've acomplished NOTHING. It usually takes several levels before a real difference is seen in your power or in demons you can command.

Blaaaarg MMOs.

I was recently invited back to play WoW, and I'm probably going to play some Ragnarok Online to be of actual USE on Crescent. I like those two MMOs. WoW may have the level grind issue, but my GOODNESS do the Raids make up for it. Seeing everyone work together JUST right? That's amazing.

Ragnarok, from the little I played, is also good fun.

PW....Ehh...I didn't enjoy what little I played...

Perfect World was pretty, but it had nothing that really set itself apart. Except for the boob physics.

Only one I'm really playing right now is Granado Espada. It has very good graphics for a free to play, and a unique system of controlling three characters at once. Also, family battles can be very epic at high levels, with an almost twenty against twenty battles at high levels. Loading time is a little bad, though.

I've played a whole lot of MMOs and Ragnarok Online remains my favorite, after having played it for almost 5 years. I play on iRO's free server Valkyrie.

It's also worth noting that if you scroll down to the bottom of the page, the "Crescent" button is a Ragnarok Online RP forum affiliated with Hyakuji

Other 2D MMOs of note are LaTale, Trickster, and Dofus. If you're looking for a 3D game, I can't really help you since that's not really my thing.

RO Huh?....I actually gave that a try awhile ago, but found myself not enjoying it so much. For a 2D game, that had to be one of the most complicated games I've ever played. So many stats. @_@

SMT I used to play a whole lot. I love that game, but it DOES go a bit slow, and while I'm happy that gunners are powerful, my friend complains that the warriors of the game are shafted. This doesn't matter however, as I HAVE A HAREM OF DEMON WOMANZ! AHAHAHAHA!!!!....

*Ahem*

Another drawback however, is how ungodly low drop rates are, and the fact that I am constantly killed by friggin PONIES in that game. I HATE PONIES!

I also play Dungeon Fighter online, which is fun save for the slightly stiff movement, and the Gunner sound affects. THAT DAMNED RELOADING NOISE! It wouldn't be so bad if like half the people in the game weren't gunners as well.

As for Huxley....It looks epic, but I'm not too fond of FPS games, so I can't really agree with ya there Life.

If anyone can actually help explain what the hell I'm supposed to do on Ragnarok, I'd actually like to give it a try again.

Well, most of the content comes around at higher levels. Once you get high enough to get into a guild, the War of Emperium becomes the main attraction. It's basically a giant PvP fest between everyone on the server.

They also have Battlegrounds which is similar and a bunch of other stuff, but I haven't tried them yet. RO is really really grindy, but I still think it's fun.

PangYa.

There I said it. You have a man who played an 3D MMO golf game of all thing in his spare time and enjoying it. Quite fun really, requiring skills, patience and a lot of luck to play which I'm all set for, not to mention the bragging your rights you get for scoring an actual hole in one (I only managed to get one in all the time I played and that was by a spectacular accident, not that my friends need to know that).

Of course, I haven't the time to play it much these days since I started working last year but some of us do and will reach that point in time eventually. I do drop in once in a while to say hi and swing a few.

I prefer Flyff, when my computer isn't acting up. Sure, there's a lot of random killing and Boss Monsters popping up each hour, but I get to use a hoverboard and cross over cities and forests, doing all sorts of flying stunts. Not to mention the Clockworks kick major butt, and there's usually a big invasion each month.

Dude Xing I had the console version of PangYa for my old Wii, that game was sooooo much fun. Not with the waggle-Wii controls but once I set it to play like the PC game I had sooo much fun.

I had a short stint on the PC game too. I remember of the 2 starter characters I picked the girl cause people gave me free clothes for her. I admit it was a bit awkward. GIVE U THIS BIKINI IF U WEAR IT WHEN WE PLAY BB.

Also Haru, your problem in RO is that you can't just arbitrarily place stats and skill point at random. Well... you can, but until you get a feel for the system and how it works your characters are going to suck. You can prolly talk to Erin or myself or anyone else here that has played RO tons and tell us what class you're using and what type of server you're on and we could help give you a pre-made build to try out.

I know I can't place stat points wherever I feel like. It works like that for just about every single game you play out there, but for RO, there's a LOT of things to consider, especially now that I've read through some of the RO Wiki. It's complicated. VERY complicated.

Also, I do use pre-built builds most of the time.

ANYWAYS,

For those of you who want to find me on Perfect World, my character's name is Alledi.

One thing to consider is that your stats and skills all go back to one when you transcend. So if you make a mistake the first time around, it's usually not the end of the world.

Phantasy Star Online: Episode IV: Blue Burst.
I liked that one but the server I played on died and I am way too lazy so start over again.

I was playing S4 League a little while ago. Fun times with the 3rd Person Shooters. There's even slightly less hackers on there than on GunZ, which is always nice. They got rid of the ability to purchase unlimited equipment though, which makes the fact that I don't remember my old account name really annoying. I had almost all of the weapons.
