"What do you think, Eienhart?" "Preliminary scan shows massive damage to internal systems. Even with your regenerative abilities, there are still pieces that are missing and will require replacing." "What about the core memory and AI?" "Damaged, sir. It would be the equivalent of being placed in a coma." "Does that need replacing?" "Probably not. It's been damaged, but nothing a little rewiring and rebooting can't help." Liz Scott looked over the inert body of Almacia, the combat butler that she and Miyuki came across. Miyuki was nice enough to actually take the body down to the labs and place her on the table, and was also in the room with her. Oddly enough though, she wasn't talking to Miyuki and diagnosing the problem with her. Instead, she was talking to her car. ... Yes, she has a talking car. They were in one of the first floor laboratories of BOARD, where her 240Z was parked, and was helping her perform the scan. It also didn't sound like yet another talking car that we know of, as this one was female. Either way, Liz was more or less prodding at Almacia's insides through his chest panel. "I've never really seen anything like this... though to be fair, I think Aisia's robot friend counts as well. This is really the first time I've had the chance to examine one of these androids..." She was feeling the wires, using her abilities as a technopath to gather whatever residue data she could find about him with the help of EienhArtemis' scanners. Maybe there was something she could find that would at least get him back in minimal working order, enough for him to see and speak. |

Miyuki was quietly leaning against a wall as Liz worked. She was still on duty taking care of Liz until further notice, and she didn't want to distract the other woman as she worked. The delicate nature of electronics meant that a sudden distraction could have disastrous consequences for whatever was being worked on and anything in it's immediate vicinity, and such the field agent simply watched carefully as Liz worked, listening intently both to the corridor and to the other's conversation with her car. |

As far as inspecting Almacia's insides went, he was a mess. His internal circuitry had been fried due to the abuse he had put himself through in the overheated state. This in turn made it fairly difficult to actually navigate, the residual data being bits and pieces of his "recent" memories: that battle at Gekkoukan High, his dimensional displacement, and the battle they had just escaped from. However, for a brief moment, an aged butler bearing a visor of some sorts would "speak" to Liz, guiding her through the maze of Almacia's circuits. Should she have actually followed, she would have been lead to Almacia's bow-tie around his neck, more specifically, a small, red gem like object that lay hidden underneath: the Papillon Heart, the place in which his program core was stored. Of course, the damage to Almacia had left him in a state of "Stasis Lock", the android equivalent of a coma. However, it appeared mostly intact save the fact that whatever connected it to the rest of his systems, were no longer functioning as they should. In short, the body and the mind were completely separated. |

"...!" There was something, a whisper, as she tried to navigate through Almacia's network of wires and circuitry. Her fingers traced through them, and ended up on the bowtie on his neck. She untied it and found something else hidden underneath. It was quite small, but the red gem glinted in the bright lights of the lab. "What do you make of it, sir?" Eienhart asked. "Not sure. It seems important though... there seems to be quite a few severed connections leading to it, but I can't tell why they would be here for the life of me." She pried the gem from its socket and carefully placed it on a petri dish. "Eien, please scan this for me." "You got it, sir!" she chuckled. Meanwhile, she decided to ask for a second opinion from the magus, since she herself wasn't too well versed in the magic arts - perhaps this android was a combination of both. "Well, Miyuki, there seems to be some kind of stone on it, in an odd, out of the way place. I don't know why, but it seems to be important. What do you make of it?" |

"Hmm..." Miyuki approached somewhat closer to get a better view of the object. It was a... jewel of some sort? A magical jewel maybe. Afterall, Jewels were often excelen catalysts for magecraft, and could be used for a variety of things. "A power source maybe? Or a core of some sort. Jewelry magecraft was never my specialty, but jewels could be used to create familiars or store prana for future use, so those would be my guess. There's a few other odd uses for jewels in magecraft but I'm not as well versed in those." Besides, she didn't add. Her specialty in the day wasn't really magecraft itself so much as defeating it. |

Unknown to the those working on the damaged butler, the Papillon Heart stored well...just about everything that made Almacia him. His entire personality and his psyche, what gives him both the ability to summon his Persona and what allowed him to act human despite being a machine. The data that would be obtained from scanning it, however, would be...confusing. Since it contained his personality data, what would be found...would be his ideal views of a butler, and his wish to protect his master. It was faint, but another message would be sent to Liz, but only during the brief moment she had held the tiny thing. "Boku...no...Tamashii." or in English: "My soul." |

"A power source would make sense, I guess... but it seems too small to be a proper power source, even if it's used to store prana for use," Liz mused. "What if it's for something else?" she asked as she poked the gem a bit with a finger. Boku... no... Liz's eyes flew wide at the voice that whispered into her head when she touched it. ... Tamashii... Liz stopped for a bit before getting a small probe and putting the Papilon Heart on it. "EienHart... this thing is supposedly its soul. It's not calling it its core AI unit or what not, but... a soul. How plausible is that?" "A soul? That's a... very hard philosophical question. That's like asking me if I have a soul, even as a programmed artificial intelligence unit," Eienhart answered. "Would that make you my God if that were true?" "I'm... not sure. But that's not really answering my question." "Well, if it were a storage medium for the android's AI unit as opposed to a computer chip, then maybe..." She connected the other end of the probe into a small connector interface on the car. "EienHart, see if you can try to contact it somehow. Be careful though... the last thing we need is it invading your systems as a result," she warned her AI. Then she turned to Miyuki. "It might seem odd, but... I seem able to talk to technological constructs, and this gem seems to count as that. Do you think that aside from magic, this gem could house an... actual soul?" |

Miyuki blinked at the question "Of course." she confirmed. "That's how a familiar is usually created - from the remains of a soul mixed with a catalyst to give it physical form. Jewels are excellent magical circuits in their own right for such a purpose." She had to ponder that one for abit. Well, sure it was doable, but a familiar of this size? She'd heard about those, but she'd never seen such a complex one before. There was supposedly a genius on the run who could create perfect copies of people as familiars, but that was from a cursed lineage that inherited highly dangerous magic, and she hadn't been heard from in years. Could this have been a creation of hers maybe? "I will admit though, if it is a familiar, this is quite unique." |

Magic...Technology, it was hard to tell how exactly Almacia functioned, on one hand, his body was purely mechanical and could easily function without the Papillon Heart as your standard, combat android. And yet, the small gem held so much, it made Almacia who he was, it made him emotionally human, to the point if it weren't for his obviously mechanical body, how he acted could fool anyone. Was it an actual soul in there? Or an AI so complex due to time and advancement? Perhaps they'd find out soon enough as EienHart tried "talking" to Almacia through the connection. "H...Hello...? W-where....am...I?" the voice was weak and confused...yet at the same time polite sounding above all else. Edited by Yosuke, Oct 20 2009, 02:19 PM.

![]() In whatever space existed between AI souls where Almacia's soul was asking, this avatar appeared towards him. She was EienHart. "Ah, hello there, Customer-san!" EienHart chuckled. "As to where you are, you've been heavily damaged, so we're trying to repair you. My name is EienHart, the Artificial Intelligence for the Angelus Zero. What's yours?" she asked. Meanwhile Liz looked on with fascination as the car spoke with the Papilon Heart. "Interesting... using a precious gem as an AI core," she mused. "You're right about it being unique in that respect. But... to think that it's an actual soul trapped in that gem..." Then she looked at Almacia's body. "Maybe not as trapped as one might think," she mused as she fiddled with the Papilon Heart's socket in order to see what connectors were destroyed or missing. "Eien, mind asking him if he knows how he was made? It would help if we had any schematics that that... soul, might know." |

"Anti-Shadow Combat Unit for SEES. Designated unit name: Almacia." the blue haired AI would respond in kind, giving EienHart a rather...mechanic response, before slipping back into the friendly, butler demeanor. It seemed the damage was making him shift gears at random for the time being. "I see...one has failed his master..." he looked...disappointed in himself to say the least, before shifting to a more confused one. Once again, he wondered who his master was supposed to be. His memories had no entries under the subject but he would be interrupted as questions in regards to his schematics were brought up, immediately reverting him to business mode. "Memory banks should contain specific files, retrieval shall take a while due to damage upon unit's structure." and as quickly as he explained he was once again back to 'normal' "Shall I make tea while we wait?" |

[BGM: Hoshi Meguri no Uta ~Honky Tonk~] "Um, Customer-san? I can't let you do that, it would be in bad taste for me to accept such an offer," EienHart said before pulling out... a bag of something. It was a bouquet of flowers, or at least... something that utterly failed as passing as one, even with the meticulous arrangement of assorted colored wires, glass, plastic, and doohickeys. "Customer-san, please accept this in commemoration of having come here!" she said. Liz facepalmed. Even if it wasn't visually obvious what the hell was going on, the speakers were on, so they could hear everything. And for Liz, who could easily see into that electronic mindscape, she knew exactly what her AI was trying to do. "Eien, I'm pretty sure Almacia isn't going to fully appreciate fake flowers." ... EienHart froze for a moment, sweatdropped, then bowed apologetically. "I truly beg your pardon! To tell you the truth, I was unable to prepare real flowers for you. It is embarrassing for me to say this, but I really have no eye for which bouquets are beautiful." "... That's not really what you should be apologizing for," Liz sighed. "Anyway, Almacia, was it? I'm going to try and repair you, so I'll need those files. Please give them to EienHart as soon as the memory retrieval is done. Also, is there anything else I should know that you wouldn't need to retrieve from your memory banks to save time?" EienHart smiled at Almacia and bowed. "I will take good care of your data, so don't worry, Customer-san! You're the first customer here at BOARD Headquarters, so-" "... Actually, I doubt that he is," Liz interrupted. "We're just new here." ... Again, EienHart bowed apologetically, expressing dismay this time at being new at this line of work. Liz sighed. "Are all AIs supposed to be THIS quirky over time? I should never have listened to Deku when he told me to program her like some kind of girl from a visual novel." |

"One does not deserve such kindness, but I shall take care of them right away!" much to everyone's surprise, Almacia instead produced a vase and a small table to place the "bouquet" and set it aside the rather empty virtual space. It seems Eien wasn't the only one with a few quirks in their programming. Soon enough, a small folder materialized in his hands and Al would hand them to Eienhart almost immediately. "Everything about my structure maintenance should be in there and if you can..." a small list was produced...though nothing was technical about it, it listed materials and...his measurements? "I'd like to get my uniform mended as well. A butler without his uniform is improper!" ...well, at least he had his priorities straight. |

"... I think I can at least get the maintenance part down," Liz sighed. "Anything in there could help." EienHart eagerly and carefully took the folder of data and showed it to Liz, who read through it carefully on a nearby laptop. "Huh. Well, it also seems to list basic troubleshooting for malfunctioning parts short of complete structural failure, and it doesn't seem like it should be too much trouble," Liz mused. "I'll see what I can do before the data retrieval is complete. Maybe if part of you is at least in good functioning order, then retrieval of the rest of the data should be faster." She then turned to Miyuki. "Now, as to the... uniform bit..." Liz then wrote down on paper some numbers - apparently, they were Almacia's vital statistics. "I can't repair his uniform - too many rips and tears on it, and a lot of it is missing. Second of all, I suck with needlework. Maybe you can do it for me while I see to getting some of his vital functions fixed?" [A couple of hours later] In the interim, it seemed that EienHart gave in anyway and had tea with the butler while waiting, and they were doing so on the table decorated with her "flowers". As to the data retrieval itself, it was going... fairly slow, but by this time, Liz managed to at least get the head working. The head parts were easy to rewire and repair (even easier thanks to the partial structural data), so while Almacia couldn't move just yet, he could at least see and speak. She also did manage to repair the socket itself, so it could easily connect to the rest of his body later when it was fully fixed. "... Allright, Almacia, I'm going to put your soul back in its proper place now. You'll only be able to see, hear, and speak. It isn't much, but it should help. And hopefully, it'll help you retrieve the rest of the data faster," Liz said. With that warning, she carefully plucked the Papillon Heart from the probe and reset it on the socket. Then she turned to her laptop and started to type in some commands, mostly for starting up the robot. As soon as she was done, she stood next to Almacia to observe what was going to happen next. |

"...Uh... sure? I guess?" she blinked. "I don't suppose you have anything I can use?" See, the problem was while she always did have needles and thread on her, they were generally sterile and for medical use than such things as patchwork, and use in such a way generally ruined the needle from actually being used for it's intended purpose, and Miyuki really really would have preferred to not have to deal with replacing needles if unnecessary.
