Kouta would be up bright and early for this, his living situation was finally all settled and was now a full time BOARD Employee, which meant he could be dispatched whenever he was needed. However, there was one, final thing that needed to be done in that case: he needed a bit of combat training, and it would be a gauge to how useful he would be on the field. Which of course meant he'd be dealing with his "favorite" BOARD employee again, Miyuki Takamachi. While he didn't really complain about it, he still had to wonder why he was always paired up with her in cases like this. Regardless, he was there a couple of minutes before the scheduled meeting time, clad in sweat pants and the usual red shirt (which for some reason had the Kuuga symbol on the back now). "Another step closer to getting a real job, I guess." Edited by Yosuke, Oct 15 2009, 12:37 AM.

"You're early." she observed calmly. Miyuki had been there for about an hour already, and was quietly seated by 1 of the corners. She sat in the seiza position, sitting on her heels with back straight and knees folded straight, her hands resting on her lap. Even though this was supposed to be combat training, oddly, she wasn't wearing clothes appropriate for sparring. It was the same ashen brown suit she'd always worn day in and day out everytime Kouta had seen here. Miyuki tilted her head somewhat to acknowledge his arrival, and then quietly stood. "I've been instructed to give you combat training and evaluate your potential for frontline work, is this acceptable?" she asked him in a neutral tone. |

"Well, it's training and it's important, I may as well be polite and show up at the right time...besides I can't keep a lady waitin' after all. Even though you are pretty masculine" came Kouta's teasing reply, before shrugging a bit. He just simply looked at the girl in the corner, quirking an eyebrow at how she was sitting. "...you know you like the uke when you sit like that." he added nonchalantly. Edited by Yosuke, Oct 15 2009, 06:09 AM.

"I see." she said, her voice still in the same dry, unassuming voice. She walked towards him, adjusting her tie to straighten it. A suit really wasn't the ideal thing to wear for training, but then she much preferred to wear things she'd actually be wearing in the field. While it wasn't the most ideal field uniform either, but it blended in easily for most worlds' cities at least, although it wouldn't do particularly much in the wild. "The quickest way to determine your ability as a combatant is to observe it firsthand." she said simply ""Well then, let's begin. I'll have to demonstrate who's on the receiving end. Begin." |

The boy all gave his instructor a firm nod, followed by a deep breath. In an instant, Kouta's expression turned from the cheerful one to the serious one. Even in training, he'd be at 110%, there was no use holding back. He'd just charge forward, right hand clenched into a fist before finally throwing a hard, punch at the woman's face. He was a street fighter, first and foremost. As such, Miyuki would soon learn his fighting capability would be limited to "hit the other guy until he stopped breathing", whatever else would come later. |

The problem with steetfighting was, while it tended to work on those with no formal experience (or even many of those who trained in less effective combative schools such as karate or judo), it wasn't really a match for actual, trained personnel with experience in more practical ways of destroying the human body. However powerful a blow is, it means nothing if it cannot connect. The woman simply stepped towards him, into and to the side of the punch, putting his body between herself and his other arm, and struck him in the back with an elbow. Normally, she would have aimed for his face or a smashed a joint, but the point of training was to improve a student, not to render them incapable of movement, and held back from the full weight of the blow. "You're sloppy and reckless." she said dryly. |

All but a grunt would escape him as his blow was effortlessly dodged and countered...though it was to be expected. He was only good at fighting well, other people like him, and monsters of the week, something that could think was easily out of his league if this was all he had. "Well, you just summed me up in a nutshell, not gonna stop me from trying my best though." Kouta stated, simply...before suddenly pulling at the mat they were on. There were no rules and as long as it worked, he'd use whatever he could think of. |

Clever play she admitted. He had potential to think on his feet at least, she thought, as she slammed her foot down onto the mat solidly. With the full force she could muster, the heel or her shoe tore through the mat's surface and padded material, anchoring her securely to the floor underneath. The mat wouldn't be pulled out entirely either, with her leg now embedded through it and resisting his effort to pull. "That's not bad. If you can think on your feet more and learn to fight properly, you should do well." |

"Learning s'what I'm here for, oh cute sensei~" Kouta mused, rolling onto his back, before adjusting himself and just...kicking with both legs at Miyuki, if he missed at the very least he'd be able to get back up on his feet, maybe. Of course...he knew he was going to be in for the ass kicking of his life though, given the vast difference in skill and experience. |

To go into such a move naturally would be one thing. In such a case, under the normal flow of circumstances, it would actually be a surprise. To drop one's self on one's back and then try it... not so much. Neither blocking nor really dodging, she stepped to the side and grabbed his legs as he lanced forward, before rapidly shifting her weight and releasing to throw him a short distance away. "You shouldn't be so reckless. Find an opportunity and exploit it. If one doesn't exist, make one." |

"It's like I'm dealing with a female Roa." Kouta mused bitterly, grunting a bit as he got up to his feet. Direct attacks weren't working out for him, so he'd need a different approach and to exploit a moment of opportunity as she said...but he figured someone with her experience would leave no openings. Meaning he would need to make one, but how? ...A counter... Anything he could throw at her would likely be easily countered, so if he knew that much, he could try to make something out of that...it was likely going to hurt a lot, but for now, he charged in again for another punch, his body tensing up to prepare itself for inevitable beating it was going to receive. |

If there's 1 thing he should have learned, it's that she didn't even try to take his blows head on. It was obvious they'd hurt if they did. The trick to her defence was not a contest of power where he could use his advantages, but by cancelling out the arena of strength and relying on categories she was more experienced in. It wasn't so much speed as it was experience. In short, as Kouta was thinking of what to do, she was already performing her own action. If he didn't think and relied entirely on berserking however, simple application of principles would turn it into a single sided beating. In this case though, while the thought was sound, it had one particular issue - it ignored that she never clashed directly, going only for a strike around or behind. It was a repeat of the first blow. Rather than countering, she simply moved to the side to put his own body between her and his other arm, relying on his own momentum to prevent a sudden change, and then jabbed his back with an elbow as if he were a bull and she were some matador. |

Kouta...actually was expecting this to happen, inwardly cursing realizing that he was walking right into her rhythm. However, this time he managed to brace himself another grunt escaping the male as the blow connected, he didn't fall over and while it had hurt like hell, he was used to pain like this, years of being beat on gave him a bizarre threshold, one that was his defining trait in some cases. As such, he just pulled his right arm back, attempting to hit the woman behind him with his elbow. His eyes were at least open to how useless his own strength was, but it was clear that he was still adjusting to thinking on his feet after relying on instinct for so long. |

The problem with that of course, was his own inertia prevented him from easily landing a decisive blow. Unlike a block, where an impact helps a combatant adjust, to move aside a blow forces them to expend energy to stop and re-orient. This principle is the single guiding factor towards the development of most methods of armed combat at close quarters. While his elbow rushed to attempt to connect, she simply turned to almost comically give him a kick to his rear end to push him farther forward and throw him off balance, a neutral blank on her face remaining for the entire combat. |

It was...rather pathetic in Kouta's case as the training exercise went on, everything he attempted, was easily avoided, to the point where Kouta just could not land a hit on the woman. Even then though, he didn't give up, no matter what she did or how hard she hit back...the boy would just get up again, not even asking for a break. Maybe it was a matter of pride but he just...wouldn't give up, he would at least get one thing right in this! Of course, he was on his last legs by now. He just stood there in front of Miyuki, a battered mess and exhausted as hell...but it was a testament to his stubbornness that he was still standing. "...looks like I fail this...huh?" he didn't want to admit it, but he was defeated, utterly and completely. It was...aggravating and at the same time...he knew he needed to shape up. |
