Occupation: None
Grade Level: None
Alignment: Dark
Powers/ Abilities:
The power that Kale wields stems from an unknown patron or plane of energy, most likely associated or congruent with a plane of shadowfell or the twisting nether given the nature of his abilities. He obtained the power when his brother, once a warlock of some note, tapped into this plane though reckless sorcery. The result left him a shadow of a being, a bodiless wraith that sought out his brother before he faded away completely. Although semi-sapient early on the many years and closer binding of the second soul have dulled this remaining sentience to the point of nonexistence.

The very nature of the plane that he draws power eludes even Kale, and while he believes he found it at least once after between six and sixty years of searching, (exact time unknown due to the nature of time dilation and differing time passage rates in the various planes he has visited) he has no memory of his time there, having lost roughly two years of time after reaching the plane and then being shifted to a place between the worlds, outside of time and space itself.

These powers run the gamut from very basic, including the fact he no longer requires food or water for sustenance, and requires only short periods of regular inward meditation to reestablish his connection to the plane and bind his brother's soul closer to his own; although linked permanently he must still put some effort into merging them closer to access the vast majority of his powers, including the full manifestation. He has a resistance to damage and a faster healing depending on how soon after it was since his last meditation, usually not enough to matter in combat but enough to heal quickly after combat, with some time spent recovering. Other minor abilities include a sort of semi-extrasensory perception that tends to lead him to things for unknown reasons, a 'danger sense' of sorts, and general increased physical strength and agility.

The most basic combat ability he has is to utilize negative energy as a weapon. He can channel it through a physical object, usually metal due to it's unknown conductive properties towards the energy, and inflict greater damage. The energy has a destabilizing effect on matter, causing breakdown on a molecular level. However, given it's eldritch nature, this breakdown occurs only in things that it is intended. That is, when Kale intends it to cause a breakdown, it does. It is not as exact to say that he could degrade some sort of matter and not others (so he cannot, for example, perform a tumor surgery by targeting only tumor matter) but rather a general choice of degrading organic or inorganic material, or both. This ability to channel is the most basic and he is capable of doing it in at least a simple form no matter how long it has been since his last extended meditation. However, the sooner after he has done it the more extreme this manifestation can be. Soon enough after allows him to manifest a near physical weapon overlay, such as a full sized blade extending from his dagger composed of the peculiar shadow-stuff he draws power from.

With more focus he can create a sort of microscopic tear in the fabric of existence at short distances. However, these tears, regardless of how small, inherently cause a small blast to occur, usually of dark and shadowy power, that is capable of similar damage. The blasts, however, are generally small and give off a smoldering point of darkness before they burst, making them somewhat easy to dodge, but useful for herding foes.

The more advanced application of this power, channeled through the nether shard he wears around his neck, is the ability to planewalk. A form of teleportation, he can focus for a short period and slip between the layers of time and space. He slips into a new plane, generally somewhere he has gone before or has a large degree of information on. Anything less precise can be dangerous, and usually requires a long period (in the ballpark of years) to accumulate enough energy to go to. However, the more common and basic planes are easily traversed, and he can even take along willing (and with exertion, unwilling) passengers. While given the energy and time required to do this makes it ineffective as a combat skill it can, in certain circumstances, serve as an escape mechanism. However, should a foe have a way to follow, or he accidentally step into trouble (as he cannot see what is on the other end until he is there), then he could end up in greater trouble due to the drain it causes on him.

His next to last ability is to pull the essence of the unknown plane around him, cloaking him in an embrace of shadows and utter darkness. This tends to make him hard to track visually, and allows him to fade into the dark to hide away. In open combat it is more of a visual deterrent, as images of him bleed off the cloak as he moves, essentially functioning as an otherworldly distraction that works for the same reason ancient warriors would tie red feather to their spears; visual confusion is a powerful ally and tool.

His final ability is to assume a 'full manifestation.' In this mode, he binds his brother's so tightly to his own that he bodily transforms. This is mostly a subconscious thing; as in, how he imagines it is supposed to work is how it does. He assumes a form in which his body becomes partial composed of an unknown metallic substance, manifesting a large weapon composed of matter taken directly from the unknown plane and shaped into a corporeal form. He also manifests a pair of large wings which do allow for rather agile flight. However this form is a rare occurrence as it requires an extreme amount of focus and leaves him vulnerable afterward, so much so that he is barely able to manifest even the most basic of abilities. For this reason he does not attempt a full manifestation unless he has prepared himself for it carefully and it is of the direst need.

While this may seem like a wide array, the general applications are far more limited. While his combat ability may be higher then most mages, he lacks their versatility, a fact that has greatly disgruntled him for many years; he is incapable of learning magic due to his altered nature, part of the reason he has aligned himself with the darkness: it provides a new source of power for the power-hungry Kale.

Equipment You Have:
Kale carries very little in the way of actual equipment, having little need of it beyond the socially required clothing so he does not overly stand out. Indeed, he wears conservative clothing to not draw attention, keeping a style that will fit across multiple planes to facilitate his own laziness.

He carries the nether shard, a torn crystallized piece of the twisting nether that was shorn away during Rawanuri's assault on Hyakuji. The shard functions as a sort of meditative focus to Kale, an eldritch battery that, while not required, greatly helps his efforts to draw on the energies of the unknown plane. It appears an inch or so long irregular crystal of dark purple, that lightly glows and seethes with arcane power.

The dagger he carries is a simple double-edged dagger, generally regular in every way. It, being metal, conducts his power effectively. It is primarily effective at stabbing though it could be thrown with some effectiveness as well. In essence, it's a well-made and balanced dagger. Nothing more, nothing less.

Personality Description:
On the most basic and fundamental level, Kale is a simple and almost pathetically basic being; he seeks power, for it's own sake, and does it to the exclusion of many other things. He has forsaken normal society to chase after power, believing himself to be better and not needing the simple and human things like society. Although he enjoys it, he does not realize that he can never truly exist in it except as an outsider.

Simply put, he does not know how to function in a society anymore, he is a fundamentally broken person and while he is unlikely to ever realize this it will haunt his existence till the day he dies... something that, given the nature of his powers, is unlikely to happen any time soon.

He is not an evil person; that is, he does not seek to do evil things for it's own sake nor truly act in an 'evil' manner. He is somewhat selfish, perhaps, but he does not go out of his way to harm others and often will do so to help, abet not because he truly wants to help but more because he is bored. His alignment with darkness is began of his belief that it inherently will win out in the end and it's a faster trip to power to simply join now. However, this pragmatic view could mark him out as a danger should the tides begin to turn.

Personal History:
Kale Hume. The real Kale Hume, that is, was once a student at Hyakuji High School nearly six years into the past, a promising if forgettable student who manifested an arcane power of transmutive sorcery. He held great potential, but fate would not be kind to the young student. He had been orphaned, his extended family having little desire to take care of him, and a brother whom the entirety of his family shunned for reasons that would become far more apparent in time. Cliche as it was, the orphan was sent off to a school more equipped to deal with his pedigree's peculiar powers, and where the family could forget about him. Out of sight, out of mind. What they did not expect, however, was for the events at that school to bring about a far greater problem then they ever imagined.

He did not take off well. He fit in poorly, and despite it's concentration of foreigners, Kale never truly could relate to many of the other students. A few basic relationships, barely being able to be called friendships at all, where all he could call his own. He fell in with good crowds and bad crowds intermittently, neither sticking. His lonesomeness was something the young man found hard to overcome. But when the first great threat to the school appeared, Kale hoped this would be a chance to prove himself. He had no idea he was being watch during this period.

Archibald was a teacher at the school, a professor of history. Intimate knowledge of that subject would prove more obvious when he was revealed to be a being of ancient power. A lich, in fact, who went by name of Rawanuri. Kale was amongst the students who fought, and while he was a minor part, he still was there to recover a shard torn from the twisting nethers, a shard which, while seemingly unimportant, would come back to haunt him later. He had fashioned it into a necklace, a pendent of sorts, the only true reminder that he had taken part. He was not remembered, like he had hoped, and he had not found the acceptance he had craved.

He was going to leave, a sadly stereotypical runaway in every sense. But he had nothing to run away from, truly, until his brother returned. Or rather, a shadowy remnant of his brother, a shade of a man who had tempted the forces of the twisting nethers and shadowfell too much. Kale should have run then, or turned to the many sorcerers of Hyakuji for assistance. But instead, demoralized and depressed, he decided to find a new place in the world. He joined with the wraith of his brother, and at that moment he ceased to truly be himself. He remained in Hyakuji for a short period. His brother's soul took a place alongside his own, but in the process stripped him of his original power. It also left him weak, a fact which led him to form a sort of bond with an equally depressed student, one whose name is now lost to him, but one who he must thank greatly regardless. Feeding on each others soul, the two managed to survive with each other for a short period before Kale found the town was not quite what he desired.

Strong enough to exist on his own, the new Kale severed the bond, the merger between he and his brother's souls becoming permenant. His powers began to truly manifest, ability to harness and thrive in the shadows. He left the town, and in truth the world, slipping the mortal bonds using the shard of twisting nether made material that he'd recovered from Rawanuri's efforts. Where he truly went was a place that he has told nobody, and in truth it is not a single place. At first he could step only into a pale shadow of the real world, a world of darkness. He resided there for some time, two years in fact, gathering strength in that fel place, eventually reaching a point where the nether shard was capable of sustaining Kale without any external elements. Meditation replaced sleep and physical sustenance for the inexperienced planewalker, and soon he was able to step from the seams of yet another world. This began a cycle of exploration and power, each new world revealed a new layer of power for walker. But it was not his end goal. He searched each new place, living a new life in each one.

Time passed differently for the walker, a combination of his nature of traveling outside time and space, and the effects of the nether shard the hung from his neck. He continued to travel, never staying too long in one place or world, always seeking something he had no knowledge off; an urge to find something unknown. Eventually, he found it. He does not know what it was. A hole exists in his memory, a hole where two years should be. He doesn't know what end goal he is now seeking. He slipped into a place between time and space, waiting and resting, letting a change take place in his two souls.

But knowledge of Hyakuji's strange demise of sorts has drawn him back for unknown reasons. He has a drive only to become stronger, and the Darkness seemed to be a perfect vehicle to those ends...
