SETH DEVAROS

... Who dares disturb my slumber?

Posted Image

--| Given Name |-- Seth Devaros

--| Blessed to be |-- Male

--| Lived for an Age |-- 21

--| How wide? |-- 170 Pounds

--| How high? |-- 5'11

--| Looks like |--

Seth, at first glance, may look a bit aristocratic.

He blames it on the his blood – and possibly the hair. Seth, while not the farthest possible from pomp, is clearly not.. aristocratic. He lets his blonde-white hair flow gently down the back of his head and cascade around his shoulders, while allowing a few strands in the front. His skin is quite pale – but not deathly so. His eyes are of a pale blue, and compliment his similarly pale skin quite well. Seth has a lean physique – built for speed, but packed with a strength that his physique belies.

--| Shrugs on |-- Seth has two attires he usually wears. The first consists of pale, almost deathly so, blue pants and a similar pale blue shirt with a high collar. It looks somewhat formal, but Seth wears it for its comfort (its made out of Egyptian Cotton with some super-soft material woven in). Some have looked slightly derisively at the clothing, taking it as rather.. bizarre – but Seth doesn't really care. Comfort was paramount in the stitching of that set. His other set is fairly contemporary. It consists of some sort of jeans, usually dark blue to black, with a royal blue or black t-shirt on. On occasion, he'll shrug on a brown, leather sports jacket – but he usually goes without it.

--| Power Corrupts – but perhaps not absolutely |--

  • Display Nightmare: This power seeks out the mind of the opponent and delves deep into it, searching for the small bubble in everyone's mind that contains their deepest, darkest fears. It grabs hold of that bubble – and pops it, and makes the opponent view their fear over, and over again (which means three posts).
  • Summon Nightmare: This power struggles with the mind of the victim, and wrenches out the form of their worst nightmare and gives it a physical manifestation. Obviously, this power is limited to nightmares that actually have a physical being – it can't mimic emotions such as a fear of loneliness. It can, however, take the manifestation of a fictional creature (such as a menacing Hydra) if that is what the victim fears most. Like his previous power, it has a limit on the time it can spend in the real world before it starts taxing Seth's physical energy (three posts).
  • Soul Torment: A truly evil skill; this ability reaches out to touch the very soul to inspire the foulest of emotions. Lust, anger, fear, hate are all at his whim to direct whichever way he will – if the skill connects with the victims soul, he can turn teammates against each other, tear lovers apart, and dissolve long-held coalitions
  • Dark Assault: Dark energy balls, not too strong, but strong enough to hurt like a pain in the ass: twice as strong as your physical punch. Will not increase, limited to three uses per day. Can also be used to create a dark energy shield that protects you for two whole posts, only may be used twice a day.

--| The Nature of a Rogue |-- If you had asked some person on the street who had ever met or been around Seth – you would find a wide range of answers. This, of course, is completely normal – everyone has their own point. But if you took the time to look very, very carefully at these set of answers, and... transformed some of the more insulting comments to less insulting ones, you'd find something like this. Smooth. Graceful. Brave. Egotistic – sometimes. Intelligent.

All of which appear true to the outward eye - but he's not. Oh, he certainly is smooth and graceful. Egotistical and intelligent too - but those words seem far too light to describe someone as insidious as Seth. Snake-like is perhaps the best word to use; it encompasses all those previous adjectives, but reminds one that the ultimate purpose for all of it is to kill, and to kill quickly and efficiently.

Seth is a master of emotions – he can easily appear gentle and calm while inside he is raging with an unquenchable fire. His powers have given him ample opportunity to study the human mind and how people react to different things (particularly negative emotions), and with this long study came the mastery of emotions. He can appear calm, while in truth he could be raging with anger. He can appear to exude love, while inwardly be collecting hate.

--| Secrets of the Mind |---

Seth grew up in a normal home – he wasn't abused, wasn't belittled – was, in fact normal. In fact, he prided himself on being one of the 'cool' kids at his grade school. Star soccer player, fairly intelligent but not overly so – life was good. And then, he discovered his powers. Nothing really bad happened – in fact, it was rather cool. The ability to release a person's fear in front of their eyes gave him a power over others to extent he had never had – but the ability to easily create fear cannot leave a person's psyche unchanged. Over time, his attitude, once cheery and bright, become more dark and somewhat cruel. By the time he finished eighth grade, he had fallen out of the 'cool' group – oh, he still was the star soccer player, but things just didn't seem altogether right about him.

Then he went to Hyakuji High – and realized he wasn't special at all. He wasn't the most powerful, could not inflict fear indiscriminatingly, could not do anything that someone else couldn't also do. His power was somewhat unique, but there were people with powers that were equally as powerful; it was a perspective shock for him. His personality slowly morphed once again throughout those four years. He was still sarcastic, but not with the intent to hurt. He still had dark moods – but they were few and he was generally a fun-lovin' guy. College loosened him up even more – nothing like alcohol to loosen some pretensions you once had.

However, three years out of the super community soon saw him resort to darker methods. His life soon became filled with the dull, monotone routine of work, study, eat, work and he yearned to break free of this cycle. His experimentation with his powers allowed him this freedom; and it set him once again down the darker road. He began mingling with the 'wrong' crowd, dabbled in drugs until he realized he wanted to keep his mind; then switched to dealing them. Though this was a lucrative trade, it only brought it monetary benefits, and he soon tired of this as well. Dropping this, he delved himself in the world of organized crime, before becoming embroiled in the world of the Wo Shing Society and rising to become one of the leaders of the Hyakuji branch – which is where he stands now.

--| Trinkets, anyone? |-- Seth has tattooed on his shoulder an ice dragon, winds unfurled and jaw set to bite. It doesn't have any special ability, but it is the symbol of himself. True, its covered up most of the time but with that not withstanding... He also wears a silver necklace across his neck with, again, an ice dragon dangling at edge.

--| RP Sample |--

Seth rubbed his head lightly as he sat at his desk, papers scattered in disarray all over his desk. He wondered sometimes why he took this job upon himself – he already had enough responsibilities managing organized crime; but no, he had to subject himself to the horror of teaching high school students. He had forgotten how dim-witted he had been at the age, how easily the most simplistic subject like perspective had escaped him at the tender age of sixteen. Now, after three years and a major in Sociology, such things were as trivial to him as arithmetic algebra – but these infernal simpletons could not grasp it. How hard was this simple concept of sociology?

His fingers ached as he crossed out in dark red ink the errors of one particularly troublesome student. Honestly, confusing conflict perspectives and interaction perspectives was a preschool mistake. Conflict by itself implied, well, conflict and he had told them time and time again that f if it mentioned social change, it was the conflict theory. But no, this dumb bastard had, once again, chosen the wrong one. Seth had only taught three perspectives! Out of twenty! Three! This dunderhead had a thirty-three percent change of getting it right, and he continually picked the wrong one.

Perhaps the child was doing it on purpose – perhaps this demonic child enjoyed tormenting his underpaid teacher by making mistakes on purpose. He was glad his pay was supplemented by his leadership at the Wo Shing; how in seven hells did any teacher live off these wages? Truly, teaching was an under-appreciated job. Having to spend every day coming in to these ungrateful brats was almost more than he could bare; and he had only been there one day!

Again, his cramped hand stopped grading and returning to rubbing his stressed forehead. He inwardly wondered how the full-time teachers who taught the mandatory classes felt. He at least had to deal with students who were moderately interested in Sociology – even if they did have no aptitude at it at all. Those teachers had to deal with everyone – a wave of pity washed over him as he contemplated their predicament.

Letting out a tired sigh, he let himself delve back into grading the tests – this was the last time he gave free-response tests. Next time, it was definitely scan-tron. Perhaps that would save his hand from falling into disrepair at his young age of twenty one; he hoped that his students at least would be able to fill out scan-trons properly..

A knock suddenly rang out at his door, and Seth's moody thoughts were abruptly cut off, as fates would have it, that diabolical student walked in with a grin that was surely too wide for his face. A groan reverberate through Seth's skull as the student greeted him with an over-exuberant,

“Hi, Professor!”

“Hello Mr. Murphy..” was Seth's immediate monotoned response. Why did the gods curse him so – if instead it had been that nice, quiet girl in the corner who seemed to actually understand the subject, he would've been happy. Hell, he might have even been ecstatic to see anyone else than this kid. Wondering what would've driven this child to his office after school hours, he dutifully grounded out, “So, Joe, what can I do for you?”

“Just wanted to see my test!”

Oh, wanted to see his test did he? Seth rifled through his memory to remember the percentage of this particular test – ah, here it was; an astonishingly low score of thirty percent – just under what someone could've done if he had randomly guessed on every single question. With something akin to a malicious smirk, Seth handed Joe his test and said,

“A truly unique performance, Mr. Murphy.”

Relishing the thought that this over-happy child mood would soon flounder into depression, he was shocked and somewhat disappointed when he saw the child only smile at him, and say,

“Thanks, Professor!” and then waltz nonchalantly, as if that thirty percent hadn't dented his mood at all, out of Seth's classroom.

Seth groaned – he could feel that headache coming on again.
