Hyakuji 2.0 Template Character Name: Gato Harumba Gender: Male Age: 16 Height: 5’10 Weight: 135 Description or Image of Character Appearance: ![]() Occupation: Demon Chef Grade Level: 10 Powers/ Abilities: To Serve: As a master Chef, Gato knows the secrets to preparing most, if all foods. However, his magical talent only encompasses certain foods specifically right now, hence why he is at Hyakuji. At the moment, he can magically prepare most meats, which include Pig, Cow, Sheep, Fish, and Fowl. He can also magically prepare most fruits and vegetables, however, this is harder for him than Meats. While he can produce fruits in the Tree fruit type, he cannot produce Berries or Vine fruits. As for vegetables, the only ones he can magically prepare are Root vegetables. As his power grows, he will learn to prepare more kinds of food in larger varieties. He is far, very far from mastering his talent, but he feels he is very close to realizing power. Spice of Life: His more recently developed talent, the Spice of Life, embodies not only his will to cook but his own personality. Since he last came to Hyakuji, he has lost many of his magical spices, instead gaining many hot ones. Peppers in oils and powers materialize in his hand, peppers of all shades and intensities. Seeds such as Mustard and roots such as Horseradish simply appear in any form he desires, but raw. Pepper of Demon: His most recent “breakthrough” in the art of magically preparing foods, or, in this case, magically preparing inedible foods. In the past year, Gato has managed to complete a spell that summons a single large pepper, about the size of a baseball, that is the hottest in existence. Indeed, it is so hot that humans cannot consume it without experiencing vivid hallucination and severe gastric pain. The pepper itself is black with a black stem. Its insides are red, its seeds orange. Like the blowfish, if not prepared correctly, it could be fatal. Gato often uses it in his spiciest dishes. Equipment You Have: Kitchen Set (in his dorm) Book of Feasts (mostly translated) Residency Request: Yuki Schedule: Homeroom: Elisa/Yukari 1st: Gym 2nd: History LUNCH 3rd: Supernatural Studies Personality Description: Gato Harumba is a bubbly, eccentric youth, obsessed with cooking and romance. Some of his fantasies, fantasies he shares often with whoever will listen, seem a bit creepy sometimes, but that is just who he is. He’s a dreamer, an artist with the pan and knife who will never let his heart be silenced. However, after his travels around the globe to find someone who can translate the Book of Feasts, others may find a more reclusive part of him, an artist who works with the blood and guts of a creature to make delicious, but frightening dishes. Personal History: His mother was an accounant, her life divided lovingly between her job and her husband. She did not mind one bit, and never had to choose. But his father was a Master Chef, his only passion his art. As a child, he never felt lonely though: Gato always had something to do. And even though his father was always away, that did not mean that he spent time with his mother more. When he wasn’t learning math and science from his mother, he was puttering around the kitchen, watching his father. So, his life began between the kitchen and school. However, he didn’t have the luxury of not having to make a choice. His choice was food. He began apprenticing under his father at age eleven, learning not only how to cook…but the family arts. The Harumbas were an ancient line, descended from Talbot Harumba, a chef who decided to mix magic with cooking. At age thirteen, he mastered fish as a magically prepared dish. At fourteen, he learned the secrets of spices. And at fifteen he learned he was not alone with his family in the world. After looking through the Book of Feasts, the cookbook that held the spells of Talbot, he found a small slip of paper saying only, “Talbot-To you with love from the Union”. It was the only clue he had to the whereabouts, the true secrets, of his passion. Until then, he had thought himself confined to that book, no matter how large it was. But the true secrets of cuisine lay in the “Union” that Talbot knew. So he ventured to Hyakuji with one goal in mind: Learn not only the beauty of conventional, casual cooking…but the arts of war in the midst of a bizarre school, constantly in peril. But as he bid farewell to his father, he found himself holding the good Book. “Take it. You…love it more than I did. I grew to love it. But you were born with it. Don’t forget us.” So with his fathers words he turned his back on his home and headed towards destiny. He found the Union the following year, as Gato dropped out of school suddenly after receiving a phone call. “Page eleven hundred seventeen: Tool and Nail Veal: How to make the tame into a ferocious meal.” The Book of Feasts was a magical tome, and at the time very little of it seemed to be filled in. However, as Gato turned the pages he found that eleven hundred seventeen was filling itself in before his eyes, like he had seen only three times before in isolated recipes. “What do you want,” Gato replied, hastily, “Anything you want, it’s yours, how did you do that?” All he heard was a click. The following week, a package came in the mail, holding only a slip of paper with an address and an engraved knife, its dull edge engraved with the words Union of Acendant Tastes. In three days he was there, in the presence of the heirs of the mantle that was the Union, all members carrying tomes much like the Book of Feasts, passed down from their fathers, their mothers, to them. A year later he emerged a changed man, equipped with a translated Book of Feasts, empty of all but the pages he himself had to write to complete his family’s legacy. He had to Ascend his Tastes to that worthy of a Demon Chef. He returned to Hyakuji where he knew he could complete his studies in peace…and in war. RP Sample: “We’re almost there!” The words hung in his head, stale after a year. The last time he heard those words, he was on the road to Hyakuji high school for the first time, full of excitement and confusion, fear ad bravery. He didn’t feel any of those emotions now He only had a sick feeling of nausea in his gut paired with fatigue that bore down on his very soul. It was going to be a long year. “Gato-san, are you alright?” His traveling companion this time was another attractive girl, Ran somethingoranother. He felt like shit. Needless to say, however, he tried to put on a happy face for the situation. “Oh no, Ran, uh…” He had totally lost Japanese honorifics somewhere in Turkmenistan. They were pushed out of his brain by recipes, secrets, things he would rather forget… “Ran-sama, I appreciate the thought though. I have been away from home for so long, I have some anxiety for what to say.” “Don’t worry, your parents will love you. From what I understand, you learned a lot overseas, huh? Your father will appreciate that!” “No doubt.” His stomach turned again and he broke his gaze to look around the bus station where they were waiting for the final bus, the one that would take them to Hyakuji. “I’ll have a lot to tell him. It was incredible in too many ways.” A silence descended upon the conversation, one he could take rather than continuing to speak of lies and lies. His family was in Wakkanai for the fish, hours away from the city. His stomach turned because he had to return and because he left in the first place. Why did he have to go to the Union and…participate? He knew in his heart he was no longer the Master Chef his father wanted him to be. He was a Demon Chef, one who feared nothing, who lived to make something out of nothing. It was terrible and beautiful, and he hated himself for loving it. “Gato-san? Did you hear me?” “Oh! Ran, no, I didn’t, what did you say?” “Nevermind.” He hefted the bag on his shoulder again and grimaced. It was everything he needed: A bedroll and his entire kitchen, preserved in boxes and Styrofoam peanuts. His world, in a bag. His Book of Feasts hung from his shoulder, strapped to him with a powerful chain. No one would steal it. He didn’t care all that much for “his entire kitchen”. He might as well make conversation… “Hey, Ran-sama, what’s Hya-” “Don’t talk to me.” He waited in silence for the bus to arrive, one hour late to the station. Mashed Potatoes? The proof is in the pudding! Edited by Amaya, Apr 30 2008, 10:05 PM.
