Say "Battletoads" again! I dare you!

Hyakuji 2.0 Template Character Name: Satori Kato Gender: Male Age: 53 (That's...what it said on the application anyway.) Height: 6'2'' Weight: 180lbs Description or Image of Character Appearance: ![]() Occupation: Onmyōji, History Professor Grade Level: He flunked out of high school actually! Powers/ Abilities: Hyoui : A trained Onmyōji Satori is capable of summoning and controlling spirits. Unlike most Onmyōji Satori willingly allows the spirits to inhabit his body. He currently only takes the risk of doing this with two particular spirits, while a third spirit, Matsukaze, is instead summoned seperate from his body, as a Shikigami. When the spirits inhabit his body, he is vulnerable to any form of attack that would usualy harm a spirit. Also, depending on which spirit he is channeling he will develop a weakness to whichever element happens to be the inverse of their natural affinity. Only one is manifested at a time (this is usually Matsu.) Each spirit is summoned by Satori focusing on a particular talisman. Yamagi: Yamagi is the great spirit of a mountain that presents itself in the form of a large Buddhist monk. He is reserved and serious at all times, but perhaps also the most kind hearted and merciful of Satori's shikigami. When possessing Satori's body Yamagi absorbs kinetic energy and turns it into momentary physical strength. This means that the harder you hit him (and Satori) the harder he hits back. This can be vexing for enemies, as he can take a licking and keep on kicking. Inversely because of this, he tends to be a straightforward and confident opponent, which can be exploited. Further more, there is a a weakness to sharp things (which don't require a lot of kinetic energy to do damage) and non kinetic energy. Yamagi's one weakness is that his power is rooted in the earth. While it is hard to make him move in the first place, as straight forward physical force will not work on him, if one can get Yamagi off the ground he will not be able to convert the kinetic energy in strength, and becomes momentarily vulnerable. It should be noted that when Yamagi possesses Satori his master's weight increases a good deal. Tenshi: Devil or Angel is a strange soul. Always at peace, and rather Jovial, Tenshi is mysterious, even to Satori. He often refers to Matsu and Kasai as children (not completely unprecedented), and while they may resent this somewhat, they still seem to show him a great deal of respect. Satori, is a senior spirit, which means that he is quite powerful. Powerful enough in fact, that Satori is quite aware that Tenshi is withholding the majority of his power, which is most likely a good thing. Staring into the infinite void tends to give you a supernatural appreciation for things that exist. Tenshi grants Satori partial spacial awareness, limited to a sixty foot radius. Spacial awareness essentially means that Satori knows where things exist, in terms of location, he can also know what they are to an extent (living or dead, animate or innanimate). Anything that is not susceptible to his normal senses however, remains that way. In other words, Satori might know that an invisible person was in front of him, but he still would not be able to actually see them. Likewise, he still could not make physical contact with an incorporeal creature. Tenshi is always in the back of Satori's mind, nudging him, urging him to push his limits, and the limits of the world around him. Matsukaze: Matsukaze is the youngest and weakest of Satori's spirits, and subsequently the only one he trusts to be his Shikigami. Matsukaze's power is fairly simple, he flies, high and free. He, like other spirits, cannot be seen unless Satori wills it or someone has the ability to see spirits. Furthermore, Matsukaze is not normally heard by those aside from Satori either. This gives Matsukaze a bit of free reign to exercise his impish personality. While he initially appears friendly, it may soon be revealed that he's a loud mouthed, rude, and slightly perverted punk. Luckily for him, when visible, his spikey hair hides his small horns. He and Satori often argue, causing Satori to look thoroughly mad (not that he doesn't usually). Satori tends to get back at Matsukaze by shortening his name to Matsu (Pine tree) in order to mock his spikey hair, and making casual observations about the small size of his horns. Matsukaze is easily annoyed by the first, and very sensitive about the second subject. Matsukaze's main duties revolve around carrying things for Satori, and doing research. Mushisasare: "Bug bite" is a very simple technique used by Satori for disciplinary purposes mostly. He "strikes" a weak spot on an individual's spiritual map (a certain place on a person's body). This spot can vary depending on the person, and there's usually more than one. Satori's strike consists of a light jab or poke of the index finger. While it does not actual damage, the person, it hurts quite a bit. The pain can range in effect from a sting to the feeling of being stabbed with a knife. It wares off quickly, but is enough to get someone to shut their mouths. Kamiwaza (Immortal Techniques): These are magical techniques Satori has amassed over the years and is finally pulling out of his bag of tricks. They rely on manipulating the leylines (feng sui) of the world. Thus they cannot be performed when he is possessed by a spirit, as at that time he has essentially plugged himself into a number of specific lines that allow the spirit to inhabit his body. -Majirogu (Flicker): A form of teleportation magic, Satori explains it as "running on a leyline." This is essentially true. Using the ley lines he can teleport himself in which ever direction he is facing, within the range of his vision. This can make things a little awkward considering his poor depth perception, but years of experience has enabled him to cope with it. -Tatarime (Evil Eye): A powerfull technique that requires all of Satori's concentration. While performing it he cannot cast any other spells, more so, if his vision is interrupted (by being cast in darkness, blinded, etc...) the spell will deactivate. Tatarime allows him the ability to awaken the spirits in seemingly inanimate objects within his view. -Gyakuryuu (Counter-current): By connecting a ley line between himself and an opponent magic user, he can exert a greater amount of magical force than the caster to cancel their oncoming spell. However, this is a limited use technique as it wears down the magical ley lines in the area. Thus, he can use it only three times before all hell breaks loose. Equipment You Have: Eye patch- Satori's eye patch is Tenshi's medium. Being a powerful spirit, Tenshi is easily summoned. All Satori need do is place his hand over his eye patch and say "Mite" (look!). Prayer beads- The talisman used to summon Yamagi, all that is required is to break the cord holding the beads and scatter them on the ground, and say "Chire" (Scatter!). The beads will reform around his wrist when Yamagi leaves. Paper fan- A small folding fan. Satori waves it, and says "Okite!" (Get up!) and Matsukaze will emerge! Residency Request: A POCKET DIMENSION! ...no? Then how about campus housing? Schedule: 9-5 education! Personality Description: Satori is an eccentric. He fancies himself a scientist, though most of his thoughts and theories end up regarding the metaphysical and occult. He will however, vehemently deny that his practices are anything but scientific. Despite all this, Satori is quite knowledgeable about a great number of things, though most of the information he knows is cluttered with trivia (You could say he's like Wikipedia). Satori has a bit of a competitive streak in him, which combined with his eccentric ways tends to cause trouble. Furthermore, it takes allot to earn his respect, and until that point you're likely to be an unwitting pawn in one of his "harmless" experiments. To say the least, Satori is a super charged mystic who's been cooped up for far too long, and he's got an itchy trigger finger. On the other hand, when interacting with people, Satori can, if he so chooses, exercise a certain level of civility and charm. He is not amoral, but he does tend to forget about the consequences others suffer from his experimentations, making him out to be the mad scientist type. Despite all of this, every move Satori makes is carefully calculated, the only random factor being his occasional lack of self control. Personal History: Satori, if his claims are true, is the son of an Irish-American soldier from WWII who was part of the occupying forces in Japan and happened to settle down for a little while with a Japanese woman. Unfortunately, his father eventually opted to return home, the prospect of a Japanese wife loosing it's original novelty value. His quick departure might have been motivated by the knowledge of a child on the way. Satori, although not technically a bastard child was destined for a hard life. Out of his concern for this, Satori's grandfather urged his daughter to give her child a name that would inspire greatness. His grandparents were truly compassionate people, and helped Satori's mother raise him. His grand father trained him in the art of Onmyoji, a practice preserved by their family even after it had been outlawed. Satori excelled, but also proved reckless. He believed in taking on Onmyodo from new directions, even if the traditional practices had proved effective. Even then though, his Grandfather supported him, and tried to protect him from himself when he could. Eventually though, it grew too much. Satori would not refrain from pushing his limits, and he took on the most daring act, by allowing a spirit to actually inhabit his own body. The potential damage a possessed Onmyoji of his aptitude could do was certainly not worth the risk by any rational standards. But that did not stop him. His grandfather managed to come across him just as the ritual was being completed for the first time, though such coincidences are hardly what they seem in the strange world they belonged to. Yamagi was the first, and this knew liaison with this powerful mortal man had him overcome. The mad hungry look in his eyes, his hair redder and wilder than ever, and the distinctly inhuman mixture of features was too much for the old man. He had a sudden and near fatal heart attack. When he recovered he ordered Satori to leave, until he rid himself of the demons. The young man did just that. While his grandfather's heart attack and frightened him, it had also inspired him. He had merely felt the warmth of the flame, not experienced the burn. And like a child, he eventually head to test it, to know for himself. Along the way he also managed to pick up the young wind spirit Matsukaze, among others, and find his way to Hyakuji. With the ban on Onmyodo being lifted as of 2006, Satori is once again allowed to practice it openly. While he has yet to determine weather or not this is really good, he's determined to try and put it to use. He originally applied to Hyakuji for the position of Science teacher. Principal Hitagawa was wise enough to deny him this position, and still recognize his potential and qualification as a history professor. As an Onmyoji, he had access to numerous historical documents, and his powers of divination and spirit communion would no doubt of great use as well. Since coming to Hyakuji Satori has made few friends. He has however formed a small, if somewhat unnoticed rivalry with resident magician extraordinaire Hiro Tsukasa, as well as earning the enmity of Lillian Arion (not a very hard accomplishment). He has formed an interest in a number of his students, such as Hinata Hotaru and her sister Otoha, to name a few. He's also become interested in the not so secret Arcadia organization. Whether or not this interest is a good thing is still up in the air. What is known is that Satori is organizing a big event for the students to participate in, with some help from some of the other faculty. RP Sample: Five places, he was in five places at once. Atop a precarious cliff, in a secluded forest grove, on a smooth pristine beach, in a tall open field, and in front of a door. A simple door, connected to a simple house, on a simple street, in a simple town. He placed his hand on the door knob. The five sets of sounds began to blend into a chaotic chorus, and the colors swirled growing darker as they clashed with one another. Eventually the world turned black. The music grew quieter, more focused. In this darkness a flute played, a complex but delightful and upbeat melody. Satori's ears would have danced along if they could. He himself began to, but was frozen at the site of the strange figure. This thing, he had finally found, this spirit, this...demon. His eyes were placid, his gaze uninterested, but captivating. Satori couldn't look away. He looked like a man, eccentric in wardrobe, but no less a man. The white fur collar of the big black greatcoat he wore stood out, rivaled only by the mans pale complexion. "Ten-" he began, but the demon turned away. He started to speak again, but a throbbing pain sprung up in his head, right behind his right eye. The pressure increased, and he could feel it, as if his head was closing around that single eye. The pressure grew, and the pain with it. He fell to the floor, gasping, crying out in pain. And suddenly, the man stood over him, eyes no longer serene but burning into the back of his skull. "Know that you are lucky. I am not a thing to be observed. I'm am the void, the infinite unknown energy. I am Tenshi." The voice was that of the demon's, but it was if Satori had said it to himself. There was a burst of unnatural color in his eye, then black. Satori struggled with all his might to remove his hand from the his face, letting the socket that had once held his eye dribble blood onto the ground...the solid, earth ground! He was touching solid ground, free from the blackness. The creature had too much power over him in his own realm, it was his own mistake. Tenshi still stood before him. But he had relaxed, hands inserted into pockets. "I-...I'm sorry. My name is Satori Kato," he said to the spirit, and wiping blood from his cheek with his sleeve. "Is it? I hope you can live up to that," Tenshi responded, the voice finally coming from him, and nowhere else. He smiled, and Satori managed a somewhat grim smirk. "I think you'll be needing some medical attention...master." Void Tenshi Mashed Potatoes? SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY! Edited by Yosuke, Jan 31 2009, 02:46 AM.
