NICE DRIVE!
This is the way the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper...

A gentle breeze swept through the open fields of the wasteland slowly. It would've been something that felt nice and calming making one want to stretch and yawn lazily under the sun, but it brought no solace now as it howled through the cracks of desolate ruins that had once been thriving buildings. The immense heat of the sun, due to the deteoration of the atmosphere around the area, didn't promote lazy relaxation but a fearful need to keep hydrated. Few lived now in this area and those that did huddled together clinging to one another in the hopes of surviving just another day.

Wandering through this destruction was a solitary man garbed in dark clothes under a large brown trench coat. Around his neck he wore a large red scarf which was currently wrapped up around his face leaving merely a small area for his eyes to see through to try and cut down against all the dust being kicked around by the wind.

...no, the bangs came first but that didn't end everything. Humanity will die with a whimper as it is slowly hunted down and extinguished.

Pausing in his travel the man glanced around slowly. Mostly the dry dirt wasteland stretched in all directions, but cluttered in his general area were a few crumpled piles of rubble; they had once been buildings. Approaching one slowly the man bent down and picked up a small chunk his eyes widening just slightly as it cracked and crumbled into dust by his mere touch. This place had been a institute of learning once, a school, but now it was nothing.

S'funny... we broke these buildings a thousand times and they were always perfect the next day and now there's nothing... maybe it wasn't the best and most prosperous location in the world, but to me this city shined the brightest of anywhere. Now, that light has been stamped out. I used to teach here, but now there is no school. I used to have powers, the ability to protect this place, but now those are gone too... My name is Hiro Tsukasa and these ruins... this wasteland... is Hyakuji..."

Shin Hyakuji High School
~Last Days of the Planet Earth~

Letting out a soft sigh Hiro Tsukasa rose slowly again began to wander away from the area of the school's ruins. He had a location to seek but anytime his tavels brought him this way he always paused by the school's remains to reminisce. It seemed as if the emtpy openess might stretch on forever but Hiro himself knew where he was headed; he just had to be patient. So slowly, as the harsh winds and blistering sun battered at him the former teacher progressed on every so slowly.

Nobody is sure how it began... it honestly just appeared out of the blue one day, but scientists working to progress technology as scientists do had put forth a new way of life: Mechanization. The process was the complete transfer of one's conscious into a newer stronger robotic body. This transfer brought about not only an unending life, as far as natural causes were concerned, but also an easier way of life. Activities such as eating became merely contrivances done to keep up apperances and sickness for those that became Machine didn't exist; from time to time parts needed maitenance but this was infinitely more simple than trying to seek the cure for diseases even after hundreds of years humankind had made no progress with.

As the movement began to grow it was slowly given a face: The Machine Empire. Along with this it was also given a head figure, the enigmatic Machine King. The Machine Empire pushed for all humanity to adopt robotic bodies so that the Earth as a whole could enter a new utopia of life. Slowly, the alluring concepts began to draw in more and more accepting robotic bodies.

However, the push had its opposition. Many people, Hyakuji at the forefront of this movement, opposed adopting robotic bodies because they felt in spirit this meant relenquishing humanity. The struggle against disease and the nature of death itself. These dual things while unpleasant were also what purposefully defined humanity as a whole. Things were fine for a time but slowly more and more entire nations began to join the Machine Empire demanding its citizens embrace robotic bodies.

The advent of machine bodies was not without its gains, however. Being able to exist in harsher locales the exploration and colonization of space finally became a true reality but the wealth from this only fueled the Machine Empire further. It was not long before the Earth was united under them as a single world nation and in this act humanity had signed its own death warrant.

The Machine King's first decree was for all of Earth's people to embrace mechanization and those that refused robotic bodies would be labeled as rebels and traitors against the Earth. Hyakuji was at the forefront of this rebellion and knowing the great power that lay there in all the students and their special abilities drastic measures were taken to supress it in the form of nuclear arms. Several other areas of resistance were totalled as well and the core of Hyakuji and its students and faculty found itself either destroyed or divided and scattered forced to struggle on alone.

Hyakuji is now a wasteland, a decaying ghost of its former self and in this waste its former citizens struggle to survive as they find themselves slowly hunted by Neo-Arcadia, the Machine Empire's personal policing force and perhaps insultingly named so. Things have been hard but Hyakuji is still fighting; I've heard stories of others that survived carrying on the fight. As for myself, originally Eleanor and I stuck together but... she's no longer with us...

Alone I've carried on our fight, there have to be others, I know there are others also out there struggling alone.... if only we could all join up... but even so I would be useless. Hyakuji wasn't the only thing that died that day. For whatever reason, slowly, as if a drink were being poured out my powers, my connection to Magic, the existence of Supernatural Powers in general began to slip away; it is gone now.

Hunted, desperate, struggling we try to stave off the end... try to find a different ending to the story that we can write but the situation seems set. I'm going to keep fighting and I know the others are as well... we shall fight and fight and fight until we die in this wasteland and Hyakuji is but a memory...

Shifting slowly, Hiro Tsukasa had reached the top of a small mound of rubble and let out a slow sigh of relief. There in the distance surrounding a blown out Frostfire Industries building that had luckly kept its structure intact rested shoddily thrown together shacks and makeshift buildings compiled from whatever scraps people were able to throw together.

It was one of the new tiny cities that had sprung up in Hyakuji's remains as people tried their best to band together and it seemed that generally, as long as they didn't try to escape the area or mount any offensives, the Machine Empire left the citizens alone in their own desperate struggles for survival. It was here that Hiro would regroup his situation and once again mount an attempt at bringing change and maybe with luck finally discover others to join him.

Shifting slowly as the wind howled once more Hiro began his descent down the barren hill his target now in sight and slowly getting closer and closer with each step taken approaching the city...
