"Now here's one place that isn't used as often for dates!" Otoha cheerily said as she entered the Astro Bowling lanes along with Selene and Takeshi. It was odd that Otoha would pick a place like this for a date, but seeing as she already had Hajime, this was more of a "have a good time with Rider-Sensei" date than anything else. Of course, Selene was with them too, so this really was more of a friendly get-together than an actual romantic date that one would win from a Teacher's auction.

Of course, one had to wonder why Otoha even wanted a date with Hongo in the first place. The answer was pretty simple: she liked the Kamen Riders. In fact, she was quite stoked to know she was dating one (said Rider being Hajime), and she had already long since been enamored with the exploits of the other Riders before him as told by the elders of her village. To meet the progenitor himself was an opportunity that she wouldn't miss for the world.

That and it gave them the opportunity to chat like friends and possibly regale her with stories of his exploits, straight from the Rider's mouth. Maybe it would come in handy for Selene, since she was apparently a Strike Ranger herself.

"Over here, Sensei~" Otoha said in her usual cheery singsong voice as she led Takeshi and Selene towards the counter, where she deposited her normal shoes and swapped them for bowling shoes.

The faint rumbling noise of bowling balls rolling down polished hardwood lanes and the sound of them crashing into the bowling pins greeted Selene's ears as Otoha led Hongo and her into the bowling alley known as Astro Bowling. "Now here's one place that isn't used as often for dates!" Otoha said cheerily, to which Selene nodded - given the place Otoha had chosen it appeared to her this would be more of a friendly get-together rather than a romantic date; that suited the British heiress fine, since in the event of the latter chances are that she'd just end up playing gooseberry.

This certainly seemed interesting, as Selene had heard from Otoha's chatter on their way to Astro Bowling that Hongo is a Kamen Rider, which she had known what they are after having seen Hajime in action during their Arcadia missions... Hongo however, is the granddaddy of them all, the very first of the Kamen Riders. While the British heiress didn't share the stand's obsession of Kamen Riders she would be most interested indeed to hear of Hongo's heroic exploits.

"Over here, Sensei~" Otoha said cheerily as she swapped in her regular shoes for bowling shoes at the counter.

"Ah, it's a while since I've played bowling," Selene commented as she too decided to join in the action, removing her boots to swap in a pair of bowling shoes as well. After all, bowling isn't a ball game commonly associated with upperclassmen and aristocrats - you'd normally think of polo or golf, but back home Selene did hang out with her friends who are primarily in the middle to lower class range enough to have joined them for bowling a couple of times, though she wondered if she still remembered the game basics - such as the standard posture and delivery methods.

"They called me the Queen of the Gutters..." the British heiress chuckled nervously as she checked her bowling shoes to ensure they fit nicely.

So Otoha was going out with the red Rider he met the other day? Interesting. Either way, the fact that this was a more friendly type of date put him a little more at ease, and he had noticeably loosened up from when they left in the first place. He felt a lot less guilty about going out with his students, even if it was for a good cause and what not: he wanted things to remain professional.

Of course, the walk over was a little weird...let's just say hearing about your exploits in such a way was both endearing...and a tad creepy. He just laughed along and corrected some of the inconsistencies here and there. Hongo's suspicion's were confirmed though, a lot of the things he did in the past had vanished with time...but he didn't mind.

"Don't worry about it...you'll probably do better then me." Hongo told Selene, trying to reassure her. "After all...my only actual experience with bowling is probably having to beat on the strange Kaijin's themed after it." he added with a laugh. For a man of sixty years you could safely say he hasn't had a chance to actually live it.

"Well, that makes things easy for all of us then. I've never gone bowling before, dead or alive," " Otoha chuckled as she quickly put on her bowling shoes and motioned the two towards the closest bowling alley. As soon as they got there, she immediately wrote down their names on the computer that was next to the bowling ball dispenser so that they could keep score. "Looks like we'll all have fun figuring this bowling thing out at the same time."

Now as far as Otoha was concerned, she wasn't going to start asking Hongo about how he got his start into being a Rider; judging from the fact that his body was modified by the Shocker organization, she knew that talking about that wasn't on his list of things he would like to do on a friendly date. So instead, she was going to have Selene ask questions about him. After all, they already talked a bit back at the hot springs, and her asking questions like that might seem weird and redundant to him.
"So, Hongo-sama," Otoha began - wait, what, Otoha, giving someone the "-sama" honorific!? "You want to go first?" she said, offering him the chance to draw first blood - or do the first strike of the night.

Or do a gutter ball. Hell, neither Selene or Hongo have played bowling that much to begin with.

"Don't worry about it...you'll probably do better then me." Hongo reassured Selene. "After all...my only actual experience with bowling is probably having to beat on the strange Kaijin's themed after it," that being said, the Kamen Rider gave a laugh.

"Well, that makes things easy for all of us then. I've never gone bowling before, dead or alive," Otoha chuckled as they headed towards the nearest lane, having registered themselves at the counter.

"Bowling-themed... monsters?" Selene blinked as she looked at Hongo, while Otoha punched in their names of the computer console next to the bowling ball dispenser. The British heiress had encountered her fair share of monsters, but a bowling-themed monster was something new to her.

"So, Hongo-sama," Otoha called out. "You want to go first?" At which Selene smiled and gestured to the bowling lane.

"After you, sensei," The British heiress said as she examined the bowling balls placed on a nearby rack, trying to find the correct size and weight for her hands - as a rule of a thumb the holes shouldn't be too big so that your fingers can't get a proper grip on the ball, but neither should they be too small such that you have to squeeze your fingers in and they could end up getting stuck in them when you try to throw the ball outwards. But seeing none of them have anything resembling proper playing skills, the whole thing was really more for the fun of it rather than any actual competition.

"Yes...bowling themed monsters. Shocker and everyone who followed had...interesting choices in what their creations were based off of." Hongo mused with a simple chuckle as he had finished slipping into a pair of bowling shoes. He had fondly remembered a few of them in fact, such as Television Fly and the Scissor Jaguar from the other night.

"Okay then, this shouldn't be so hard." he mused soon after, picking up a green bowling ball and walking towards a lane. After watching a few people in the other lanes he copied the basic stance and let the ball go soon enough...

...Of course he forgot to hold back so the moment the ball actually made it to the pins the impact sent them flying in various directions. It was a strike, surely enough, but the damage dealt...

"...ahehehe...woops."

Otoha couldn't help but sweatdrop a bit when Hongo literally destroyed the alley they were in.
"... Ahehehe... whoops," Hongo managed to say even as the pins started flying out in all directions.
"Well, that's definitely a strike, Sensei," Otoha chuckled. "Though... I think we'll need to get a new alley."

The force of the bowling ball literally left a large dent in the back, rendering the alley completely unusable. Apparently the guys who built the Astro Bowling alley tried to account for superhuman powered kids trying to bowl, but, well... it wasn't good enough in this case it seemed.
Thankfully, the one next to them was open, and they simply transferred to that one and re-input their names.

"Well, I'm going to try my hand at this first then," Otoha said as she took a bowling ball as well, just in case he trashed this one too. Not that she minded, as she thought this was hilarious as hell, but it wouldn't do if they didn't get a chance to play as a result.
She reared back gently tossed the ball out. and it made a perfect straight line!...

Except that line was at an angle and she only hit one pin at the end of the set before it landed at the back.
"Gah... I can't aim straight..." she lamented.

"Yes...bowling themed monsters. Shocker and everyone who followed had...interesting choices in what their creations were based off of," Hongo replied as he donned his bowling shoes. "Okay then, this shouldn't be so hard," the Kamen Rider continued as he took a green bowling ball, watching some of the other bowlers to get a hang of the stance and delivery.

"It's not hard at all, really," Selene replied with a smile as she took a blue bowling ball, testing the size and fit of the holes with her fingers - which was a perfect fit; and the weight of the ball was just right as well. All this while she watched as Hongo assumed his posture, did a run-up and sent the ball rolling...

The British heiress' smile quickly faded as Hongo's bowling ball smashed into the pins like a runaway truck, sending them flying in all directions. "Cor blimey!" Selene exclaimed as some Astro Bowling staff ran over to close off the lane, blinking in disbelief.

"...ahehehe...woops." Hongo said sheepishly as the impact left a large dent at the far end of the alley, and a small sweatdrop ran down Otoha's head as the stand watched.

"Well, that's definitely a strike, Sensei," Otoha chuckled while Selene looked on, flabbergasted.

"No doubt about that... took those pins down good," the British heiress added, her expression a near-perfect mimicry of that of a goldfish.

"Though... I think we'll need to get a new alley," Otoha said as she moved to the neighboring one, once again inputting their names on the computer console. "Well, I'm going to try my hand at this first then," Otoha said as she took a bowling ball, while Selene pumped her right fist and cheered the stand on. As Otoha took her stance and sent the ball rolling, it went out in a straight line!

...a straight angled line, that is, with the ball only managing to knock down one pin before landing at the back. "Gah... I can't aim straight..." Otoha lamented.

"All right!" Selene cheered as she swung her right arm around in a circular motion. "It's my turn now!" The British heiress rose from her seat as she grabbed her blue bowling ball, taking on a ready posture, swinging back and tossing the ball. The bowling ball made a faint rumbling noise as it left Selene's hand, thundering down the alley - the ball made a slight deviation towards the right while rolling, veering slightly off the targeted center pin at the front, knocking over five of the pins at the rear.

"Don't turn your wrist when you release the ball," The British heiress advised as she raised her left hand and pointed to the wrist with her right index finger. "From what I have learned from my friends many beginners unknowingly turn their wrists at the instant they release the ball - and even a slight turn of the wrist can result in a significant deviation to the ball's path... although you can tell from what happened with my throw that is something that's easier said than done..." The British heiress' tone became somewhat sheepish as she finished her run-through on the theoretical aspects of bowling.

"I'll keep that in mind then." Hongo said, still keeping his rather cheerful nature, even after having one of the staff yell at him for damaging the alley. Well, he could pay them back but in the mean time it was time to enjoy oneself. Either way, he was up again after Selene went so he got a new ball (still green) and got ready.

He sent the ball down much weaker then before...but perhaps a little too weak as it took a good while to actually reach the pins, and even then the impact was barely enough to send two of them over.

"...Holding back in a combat situation is easy. Holding back for the sake of fun? That's tricky." Hongo spoke, laughing out loud.

To her surprise, when Takeshi was much more delicate with his throw, he... well, hardly knocked anything down at all, just two pins.
"...Holding back in a combat situation is easy. Holding back for the sake of fun? That's tricky," the Rider chuckled.
"Ehhh... I always thought that the other way around was true," Otoha said. "I mean... I always found it much easier to fight as hard as you can without holding back. If I had to hold myself back, then I feared that I would completely lose what I was protecting."

Otoha then picked up her bowling ball and tossed it forward, this time taking it in a much straighter trajectory and actually knocking down five pins this time.
"Sweet! Looks like we're getting better at this!" Out of curiosity, she decided to look at the score.

Otoha had six points. That seemed right so far. Then Selene had...

Otoha blinked. Why did Selene have seven points? She only took down five so far, right? And even more importantly, where was Takeshi's score?

... Then it hit her. And she genuflected.

Players were supposed to throw the ball twice. They've all be doing it only once, and as a result, ended up scoring for each other.

"Guys... we've been doing it wrong..."

"I'll keep that in mind then," Hongo replied, his mood still rather cheerful despite having one of the staff yell at him for damaging the alley. In the meantime, Selene tried to talk things through with the management. Having settled things peacefully, the English girl turned her attention back to the game in progress.

The British heiress blinked as the display screen above the display console read zero points for Hongo... because the Kamen Rider had yet to throw his ball. While her turn had already passed, the score having been reflected as seven. (Five being the pins she had knocked down, and two being knocked down by Hongo-sensei) "That's strange..." It was when it hit her - on every turn a bowler is to throw their ball twice, and when her attention was diverted she failed to notice that Hongo made the second throw for her.

"Guys... we've been doing it wrong..." Otoha chimed in as a drop of sweat rolled down Selene's temple.

=_='

"Looks like I'm more out of practice than I thought," Selene added sheepishly as she scratched the back of her head. "I forgot the basic rules of the game - on every turn players throw the ball twice, oops..." The British heiress chuckled nervously as she said so.

"Man...I'm really getting old." Hongo said laughing out loud. He just couldn't help laughing, even if everything was going wrong he was just having fun regardless. "If my friends catch wind of this I'll never hear the end of it." he continued, his jovial tone not fading in the least. Sure he felt like a fish out of water, but this feeling was something he had missed, it was the first time in a long time since he'd been able to spend a day without worrying (barring Otoha's fangirlisms, of course).

'So, do we continue as is or do we start over again?" he asked simply enough.

Otoha managed to get up from her genuflected position and stood up to press the reset button on the bowling alley's computer. "Well, we can just restart. It's not like we have to move bowling alleys again," she chuckled.

After the computer was reset and they put their names in again, Otoha decided to try her hand at it first this time. In the meantime, Takeshi and Selene could sort of chat as well. After all, Selene did help get Takeshi in the first place after all, and it would allow Selene to probably ask Takeshi about what it's like being a hero of justice, after having been turned into one herself just recently.

"Allright, here I go!" Otoha said as she threw her ball out. Twice, this time.

... And twice, they went into the gutters this time.

Otoha could only genuflect again over her failure.

"Well, we can just restart. It's not like we have to move bowling alleys again," Otoha chuckled as she went up to the computer console and reset the game.

"A reset sounds like a good idea," Selene mused as Otoha reset the game, and also shifting the order around - this time with her being to first to go at it. Selene cheered as Otoha went in for the first shot, before turning her attention over to the Kamen Rider.

"So, Hongo-sensei," The British heiress addressed Hongo.

"Allright, here I go!" Otoha chirped in the meantime as she threw out her ball, which ended up in the gutter.

"I take it you've been what people would call a hero for quite some time?" Selene asked. "But I would like to know from a seasoned veteran... what does it take for one to be a hero?" Selene had always grown up on a philosophy involving showing compassion for the fellow man, and assisting those in need to the best of one's capability, but still her recent experiences had created some doubt on whether or not that could truly make one a hero - perhaps, a veteran like Hongo who has spent years fighting those evil at heart may provide points of enlightenment.

"Awww!" Selene groaned as she turned her head briefly in Otoha's direction to see how her friend was faring - only to see that her second shot also ended up with the ball going into the gutter. Selene looked back at Hongo, wondering what the Kamen Rider had to say about her question.

"Ouch. We are all terrible at this it seems." Hongo mused with a simple chuckle, all but moving to pat Otoha on the shoulder as if telling her 'there's always the next time' before stopping a bit as Selene asked him a question. It was one...he wasn't really expecting to say the least.

"Honestly? I don't know. In the past forty years I just did what came natural to me." he replied honestly. "I've never really considered myself a true hero...just a guy with a gift and using it for the sake of others." he added.

"But hey, if I get stories told about me and my friends by people like Otoha, I must be doing something right..." he concluded, laughing a bit. If he was able to leave an impression after all these years, well...you get the idea.
