"Of course I've seen a girl giggle before, but not over something I've said or done," John's reply was pretty straightforward and honest. The American student leaned forward in his seat, a puzzled look on his face. "I don't think I've ever asked you this before, but...what is your family like?" the electromancer asked. Selene took a deep breath as she heard John's question. Where should she even begin? From the mythical beginnings of the Frostfire family tree? She wondered if he'd believe that part, though, even with all the strange stuff he had personally experienced in Hyakuji. "You see," Selene began as she leaned forward, interlacing her fingers together as she rested her hands on the table. "To know about the origins of my family line one must first know what the world was like in the distant past... long ago, during what can be known as the Age of Mythology there was a time when dragons, demons, angels, elves, fey and the stuff of myths and fairy tales walked the surface of the earth and coexisted with humans..." As Selene began her tale, her smile faded somewhat, taking on a more serious and formal expression. Deciding not to bore her American schoolmate, Selene provided John with a brief summary on how the Frostfire family line came about - as legend had it, the distant ancestors of the Frostfire family were intermarried with magical beings, most likely elves, although which race of beings that the originators of the Frostfire bloodline exactly procreated with was lost to antiquity. "...and this accounts for the supernatural gifts that run through my family," Selene nodded as she finished her little history lesson. "Of course, before you ask me where are my pointy ears, I'd like to point out that the elven blood has thinned out considerably over the generations, making us far closer to humans than say, half-elves." "Well, that was quite a mouthful," I must say, Selene chuckled, returning to her more typical laid-back demeanor. "I think I must've missed out the whole point of your question... sorry." John was probably more interested in knowing Selene's family background rather than the mythical origins of the Frostfire family line, but in her eagerness the British heiress had totally sidetracked from the original point of John's question. |

John's expression had changed dramatically over the course of the story, from a quizzical look to one of shock. Selene had mentioned the elfish bloodline before to him in passing, but he had no idea that the bloodline went back that far over the course of the world's actual history. it was true that Selene had missed the point of his entire question, but judging from her answer it would probably seem that she didn't want to bring up the other aspect as much. "It's alright. I'm just surprised that the history goes back that far, honestly. I had no idea...but wow." |

"It's alright. I'm just surprised that the history goes back that far, honestly. I had no idea...but wow." Judging from John's expression, it would appear that he was rather fascinated by Selene's tale. "But that's what the legends say anyway," Selene shrugged. "The Frostfire family tree as I know it was only traceable as far back as four hundred years ago at most. And for my family... well, I'm the youngest out of four children, and the only daughter - and like myself my older brothers are also gifted with magical abilities," the British heiress veered back on track to humor John, although her family background was by far a less interesting subject than the mythical origins of the Frostfire heritage, or at least that was how the English girl felt. It was at this point that the chef had finished making what they had ordered, with a waitress bringing to them on a tray two bowls of green tea ice cream served with a topping of azuki bean paste and decorated with a fan-shaped wafer, along with two plates of thick toast, drizzled with maple syrup and a melting piece of butter on its crisp, golden surface. How timely indeed. "Well, bon appetit." Selene chirped as the waitress placed their ordered items of food on the table, followed by the cutlery and paper napkins. |

Now John had found out something that he'd actually been asking about. Up until this point, John had no idea that Selene was the youngest in her family or that she was the only sister in the group either. This got the wheels in John's head turning a little bit, trying to figure out the type of girl Selene might have been back home. She didn't seem to be the type that took in bullying from her older brothers, so john could only assume that she was looked after by them, protected from any sort of bullies. But that was just a guess. "This looks...delicious." John spoke, noting the meal that was set down in front of him. "Have you been here before?" |

Selene wondered what John was thinking about her. Perhaps he was guessing on how her relationship with her brothers went? "This looks...delicious," John commented on the desserts that were laid out on the table before them. "And is sure smells good too," Selene added, commenting on the palatable fragrance wafting from the baked toast as she reached for a fork. If something looks delicious and smells delicious, you can certainly bet it is. As the English girl cut into the toast with a knife, the maple syrup and melted butter oozed into the bread, going past the crisp exterior into the soft interior, filling it with their flavor. Placing a bite-sized piece on her fork, Selene was the test subject to determine how it went, as she chewed carefully "Well, what do you know... it is good," Selene commented after she was done with the first bite. "Have you been here before?" John asked. "That would've been my first visit to this establishment," Selene replied in earnest. "But the stuff here's good enough." |

John nodded as he reached over for his utensils and cut into his pancakes. Sure enough, upon first bite, John had fallen in love with the taste crawling around inside his mouth. John made sure to chew slowly and with his mouth closed as he went through a good bulk of his meal in silence, only a single moment going by in silence. Deciding to take a break from eating his meal, John only thought it would be nice to continue his conversation with Selene. "Hey, I forgot to ask from before but is the building alright? After the woman showed up in there, I kind of got distracted and didn't look...heh." |

"Hey, I forgot to ask from before but is the building alright? After the woman showed up in there, I kind of got distracted and didn't look...heh." Selene blinked slightly as John asked her about the Frostfire Building in downtown Hyakuji. "Well, it the wake of the Apostles incident the headquarters in London put in extra manpower and funding to make sure the building's construction was completed on schedule," Selene replied as she tried some of the ice cream. The British heiress loved the combination - the light refreshing taste of green tea made a perfect partner to the bean paste's sugary sweetness. "It's now fully up and running with its management hierarchy firmly established and roles planned out - now Frostfire Industries has an administrative and financial hub to coordinate the company's operations in the Asia-Pacific region. Of course, if you wish to know more about the company and its scope of businesses and operations, you can always go to Frostfire Industries' corporate website," Selene nodded before taking another bite of toast. |

"Well, that's always good." John spoke rather comfortably as his eyes drifted between the food on his plate and the person he was sharing a meal with. As far as John could tell, the meal on his plate was the more delicious of the two, but Selene was by far the most interesting part of the meal. Suddenly a thought popped into John's head, and he couldn't help but ask. "So, if you don't mind me asking, how's the dating world treating you? Hrmn?" |

"Well, that's always good." John's gaze shifted between the food he was having, and eye contact with Selene. But at any rate, it was clear that he was pleased, and that made the British heiress feel good. "So, if you don't mind me asking, how's the dating world treating you? Hrmn?" Selene looked up as she heard John's question, with an ice-cream spoon still in her mouth. "Well, I..." Selene turned shifty-eyed, realizing that her answer might be a little awkward, perhaps even laughable. "I haven't had much experience with that, to be honest..." That being said the British heiress looked down at the table. Edited by Lawman, Feb 17 2009, 08:36 AM.

"Oh...sorry." John spoke softly, he didn't want to come off as a prick so quickly into the conversation. Taking his utensil to the ice cream off to his side, John began to devour the cold dessert, treating it as if it were his last meal before judgment day. After about ten seconds of a non-stop ice cream binge, John decided it would be best to try and salvage the conversation. "I'm not one to judge, really. I'm probably no better with relationships then you are, maybe even worse..." |

"Oh...sorry." Came John's apology. Although Selene wasn't really hurt or offended by his question, merely feeling somewhat awkward. It was at this point where John began wolfing down his green tea ice-cream double time. When he was done, he continued, "I'm not one to judge, really. I'm probably no better with relationships then you are, maybe even worse..." "Oh no, it's all right!" Selene replied reassuringly. "That didn't come off as being hurtful or offensive if that's what you were wondering... but wow, ten seconds of non-stop ice-cream eating and no brain freeze?" the British heiress digressed. "Now that is something." Selene was barely half-done with her ice-cream, the whole idea being to enjoy her food, and also to avoid a brain freeze. |

"Ah...huh..." John looked down at his ice cream peculiarly as he wondered where the brain freeze was. Either way, John decided to lay off the ice cream momentarily and focus more on the warmer stuff on his plate. Before digging in though, John decided to press a little more on the subject. It was odd that someone like Selene, certainly cute enough along with a great personality not having much experience with this type of think. "Have you ever...suspected someone close to you wanted to get closer?" |

"Have you ever...suspected someone close to you wanted to get closer?" John asked as Selene was taking another mouthful of toast. The British heiress thought about the question for a moment, although it was only after she'd swallowed her food before she spoke up. "That was an interesting question..." Selene replied. She hasn't really been that close to boys other than the ones in her family, although she did remember their time in the dorm the other night in the wake of their nightmarish encounter beneath the old church. "I don't think I've ever suspected that," Selene continued, fiddling with her fingers. While it was true that John and her spent a rather intimate moment together, and that she values and trusts him as a good and loyal friend, she wasn't entirely sure if he was the one whom she give could her heart completely to. |

"Alright." John sighed as he went back to his toast. An air of gloom somewhat hung in his mind as he thought about another one of his friends, Nova Miyuki, who had recently confronted him with her feelings. The incident wasn't quite resolved and John knew he would have to answer to her one day, but more questions seemed to be popping up rather than answers. "It's a good thing. One less thing to trouble yourself over, right?" John spoke, his smirk forced as he went back to his ice cream. |

"Alright." Did he seem somewhat... downcast? Was there anything she could do to help? "It's a good thing. One less thing to trouble yourself over, right?" he continued with a forced smirk on his face. The British heiress scratched her head, somewhat bemused by the sudden change in John's mood. There was an uneasy moment of silence as they simply turned their attention back to their desserts, but Selene eventually broke the ice, "John... is something troubling you? It might make you feel better if you decide to let it out." She didn't know what was exactly on the blond American's mind that was eating at him, but she's perfectly willing to listen to his troubled thoughts, it does help one to feel better when they vent out their frustrations after all rather than to keep it all stuffed inside. |
