Hajime was falling. The warm void around him was thick, heavy and suffusing. It was an ocean, filling his lungs and gullet through his mouth and nostrils. Down and down, deeper he fell into the gossamer threads of oblivion. He was aware of the injuries he sustained in a vague disconnected way. He can feel the holes in his body where he remembers blood red spikes had stabbed at him from behind. “I will die from this,” he said aloud, and the words bubbled past him, solidifying. Why had he said that? Where did that pessimism come from? Hajime wondered with snail-like slowness and pushed at the thoughts in his mind, but they were impossible to shift, large as glaciers and ice-cold to the touch. In this non-state, he wondered what would become of him now. --- Following the yet another disastrous mission which involved the attempted retrieval of a legendary sword this time, Hajime was swiftly taken to the nearest medical facility where he was summarily treated and operated on. The earlier ministrations done by the other Arcadians on the mission helped stemmed the injury before it got worse but the damage was done; Hajime lost a lot of blood aside from his lungs pierced. Despite the successful operation, he was still unconscious, lying unmoving on a bed in one of the private ward rooms reserved discreetly by Arcadia. An IV drip constantly feeds fluid into his body and if anyone were to notice, his lips were moving ever so slightly, as if attempting to speak despite him being unconscious. “I… die…” |

It was past visiting hours, but it was usually not a problem for Arcadia operatives. They put their lives on the line constantly to protect Hyakuji from supernatural threats both both local and foreign without asking for any rewards, so a few concessions for Arcadians staying past visiting hours was the least they could do. That was why Hinata was still next to Hajime as she held his hand. She was more or less fast asleep at this point, but she hadn't let go of him the entire time since being placed here to recover. Keeping watch over both of them was Hinata's ever present Stand, Otoha. Except this time, instead of being the constant loudmouth that she always was, she was strangely silent. She couldn't be blamed for it though; she was, more or less, Hajime's girlfriend, after all, along with Hinata. It was a weird timeshare arrangement, more or less, but it's been working so far. As a Stand, she didn't need sleep. Watching over the two was a very easy task, which was why she was able to see him mumble in his sleep. "I… die…" "Hajime?" Otoha gasped as she took his other hand in hers and squeezed it. "Hey... hang in there now," she tried to purr. "Whatever you do, don't go for the light. At least, not yet." She wanted to find some way to help him, something, anything. She just didn't know how. |

Would he live through this? Hajime tried to probe his thoughts for an exact recall of his last conscious moments, and found rough, broken perceptions and spikes of brutal pain. Hinata. Otoha. Yes, Hinata and Otoha had been there, and some other Arcadia members he could recall their names at the moment. And before that… Before that there was only the intense pain that racked at him like whiplash. He let himself drop away, falling into that agony. Would he live through this? Would he be another memory in the end to be honored among the ranks of other Arcadians who died in their duty? He found that he did not have the will to fight. Here, in this non-place, coiled inside himself, he only was. Marking time that passes unknowingly how fast or slow, waiting and healing, he wondered why is it that he didn’t feel scared at all. In this place of death sleep, where things were murky and clearer at once, there seemed instances where Hajime Go felt a pressure upon him that came from somewhere, its flicker faint at the edges of his senses. He perceived a small fragment of brilliance thrown towards him across countless lightyears, brimming with concern… and love. “…Hajime…” Who spoke of his name? The voice echoed as if from a distant place, and he shifted to find the direction it came from. “…Hey... hang in there now…” There it was again, the colorless voice. There was concern in the voice, the same feeling that is projected by the brilliance like an aura. "…Whatever you do, don't go for the light. At least, not yet…" Despite the warning, Hajime found assurance in that voice, comfort even, and allowed himself to be immersed in it, letting it take him closer towards the center of the brilliance. He realized now that the voice was of a woman’s, and a very familiar one at that. He could also now sense another different yet familiar presence, silent yet he could feel something akin to longing between him and the two. And it was this that draws him out of the comfortable haze. Hajime was rising now, faster and faster, the warmth that he felt became prevalent in his senses, and he could feel now the touch on his hands, seemingly guiding and pulling him out. At the same time, he felt pain in his chest, crisscrossing across it where the bloody needles had stabbed him before. And then, there was the agony of waking. --- Hajime’s eyes slowly opened with a flutter, his eyelids heavy and protesting. He drew a breath and groaned inaudibly at the exertion of such a simple of bodily movement. The first thing he saw was the familiar hair of Hinata, sleeping peacefully beside him on one side of the bed he was lying on with her hands tight around his. And on the other hand… “O… toha…” He managed, recognizing his other girlfriend through the haze, her hands even tighter around his hand. It was now that he realized what had brought him back to this semi-wakefulness, and he was filled with a great emotion at their concern. |

Otoha smiled at him through the tears - yes, even ghosts cried, especially when the loved ones they left behind in the realm of the living were in pain. "Hey... I guess that worked, hehehe... And it looks like you didn't lose your memory either, since you, well, remembered me," she chuckled. She had no idea what Hajime felt at the moment, though she could certainly hazard a guess. A collapsed lung from the puncture of the Bloody Needles was going to be one of them, and it would be a bitch to be unable to breathe properly. She should know; drowning was what killed her in the first place. She chuckled again as she gently squeezed Hajime's hand reassuringly. "Glad to see you're still among the living. How are you feeling?" She asked. "It's not... too painful, is it? Is there anything I can do?" Yeah, she was now entering worried girlfriend mode right now. |

Even though the pain in his chest was prevalent and each breath he took felt heavy and difficult, his heart ached more to see a very worried Otoha, with tears in her eyes despite her chuckling every now and then. “I’ve been better.” He replied raggedly, managing a weak smile. “It doesn’t hurt as much as I thought it would be, or I’ve been treated well. This is humiliating though; taken down in a mission. Did we get the Ragnarok in the end? I don’t remember much after I…” Hajime lightly coughed, finding his breath short that he couldn’t finish the sentence but knowing well his message was clear anyway. |

"No, we didn't get it, sadly," Otoha sighed. "That bitch managed to get away with it." She was still angry at her for almost killing Hajime, but in a way, it couldn't be helped. After all, they were there to get the sword from her. Come to think of it though, why the hell would they want Ragnarok from her? After seeing what it was capable of, and seeing as it seemed to meld with its owner, Otoha wouldn't want to get a sword like that. She did, however, want to rip the owner to shreds for hurting Hajime. Or at least tear her a new one. "If I do see her again though... I'm going to kick her ass." She sighed and squeezed Hajime's hand. "Anyway... how bad is it? I don't know how extensive the damage to your lungs were, but... Dammit, it's times like these that I wish I knew how to heal! If I just did, then maybe..." Maybe I could have helped reduce the damage to your lungs, came the unfinished sentence, but even she knew that was impossible. Not to mention she was angry at Jameson too for doing such a sloppy job and creating a mess of things. It almost made her... "I don't know, Hajime-kun... with Arcadia being led like this, I'm seriously wondering if it's even worth staying..." she sighed. |

For a while, Hajime was even more depressed to find out that they have failed the mission, probably soon after he got stabbed in the back and fell during the mission. The fact that he had probably caused a whole mission to abort did not help Hajime to feel all the more better, aside from getting his two loved ones worried over him. But it was the latter that forced Hajime to throw the doubts away. Otoha was genuinely worried about him and that hurts him more than just failing the mission. He grimaced inwardly, and returned her squeezing of his hand in assurance. “It doesn’t hurt as much as I thought it would be.” He replied truthfully, albeit the pain he was feeling might get some getting used to. “Don’t worry, I will get better, if it is the last thing I’ll do. So you don’t have to worry so much about this; what’s happened has happened, we’ll deal with it when the time comes.” Hajime took the time to pause and catch his breath after such a long speech, at which Otoha took to wonder aloud about Arcadia. “I’m not sure myself either,” said Hajime. “I don’t want to think too much about its failings, but if there is some people who can help this city, it’s them.” |

"I see..." Otoha said. "You really are kind, Hajime-kun. Though to be honest, it's not so much the failings of the group in general is it is that of our... immediate superiors," she sighed, referring to Jameson, Miyuki, and even Hiro from the last mission when he just up and ran away with Kurei as soon as he turned back to normal. "I just can't work very well with people I can't trust entirely, you know? Especially if those people are the ones running it in the first place." There was also something else that she noticed earlier. In fact, she was wondering if he was hiding anything else about himself. "Oh yeah... there was something else I noticed during the mission. I thought it was weird when I saw a bunch of Kamen Riders running about, but I didn't know that you were one of them." She had, after all, heard the legends from the older people back home, about how there were masked heroes who came to save the day decked out in what seemed to be powered spandex and masks, and rode into the fray on motorcycles. They were called Kamen Riders, and in a way, she idolized them as fighters of justice, protecting the weak and defeating the strong that bully them. She had no idea that her boyfriend was one. "Do you... want to explain that to me for a sec?" she asked, not in an angry tone, but in more of an honestly curious one. |

Despite the pain in his gut, his grimace was not because of it. Rather, it was because of the question Otoha just asked him of his ‘other’ identity. Truth be told, it doesn’t seem to be much of a secret to begin with since some people somehow knew who the man was behind the mask or masks, depending on the situation. But Otoha’s question just proved that not everyone knows, so Hajime was presented with a dilemma he wasn’t quite sure how to deal with since he never thought he’d face it suddenly out of the blue like this. Although technically, he should have expected it, but that’s beside the point now. “It’s something my grandfather left behind for me a long time ago, when I was just a kid.” Hajime began the familiar tale. “I don’t know how he made it to begin with, or why, but I always knew that he was somewhat of a… nut even back then. He left me the power to change, into something I can use to fight with because without it, I’m just normal old me.” “I didn’t mean to keep it a secret from the two of you but," Hajime continued after a pause to collect his breath. "I never found the time to tell about it, at least not yet. I guess this is as good as any time. Sorry I took this long to tell about it; it wasn’t my intention.” |

Otoha shook her head and squeezed Hajime's hand reassuringly when he apologized to her. "No, don't apologize. There's no easy way to tell someone that you're a Rider, after all." She then chuckled lightly and ran a finger across his cheek. "Though, I'll be honest. I have a... thing for men in masks who fight for justice~" she cooed as she stroked his hair from his face. Then her voice turned serious again. "I mean, I've heard about others like you, and I've always kind of thought of you guys as heroes. I always thought that... if I had the same power you have back then, then maybe... things might have been different for my little sister." She bit her lip a bit and sighed. "Perhaps I might have convinced everyone better if I was a Rider myself. It was hard to try and convince people not to pick on someone when you were dead, after all." If she were a Rider, she might have been able to convince her family to accept Hotaru for what she was and not be forced to take her name. |
