The Devil Pig is here!

After looking left and right in a futile effort to find Touka, Trystan decided to look upwards. She was a Beastkin, after all, and seemed to have an affinity with the birds. Perhaps she felt more secure up further away from the ground? Maybe he'd ask her next time, though it wasn't really important for him to know. It would have been like asking if he had a maid fetish because Nina was nearly always close at hand or if he was a martial arts nut because he was wearing Asian-styled clothing. Well, perhaps the first bit was a stretch, but there was really no need to justify his own reasonings to himself. Regardless, his choice to look upwards was a good one, for indeed, she was above him. However, he had not expected to find her asleep with another set of wings wrapped above her, let alone rocking, and sleeping with the look of one without a care in the world. Standing up, he began to reach out to wake her, but stopped. As he neared the majestic set of wings before him, he noticed the almost scruffy look they had up close. His eyes, already habituated to finding the small differences between things, quickly located the cause of the blemish. He could only imagine the sorts of things that could have caused such a young girl to be covered in scars like these. There was no doubt that these marks were not caused by the natural injuries that the young of any species were bound to get from simple carelessness. The jagged edges and burnt markings pained him to the very core. That any being had to endure pointless violence was perhaps one of the lowest inventions mankind has come up with. However, he was soon shaken from his thoughts when a masculine voice came from within the branches of the tree. "It was a surprise for her to accept the words of a human..." Looking into the boughs above, Trystan could make out the dim outline of a black bird. Though he wasn't sure of its color, as the sky was darkening, he was sure enough that said avian was an eagle from its outline. There was no mistaking the distinctive outline it had. With the light coming in from behind it, it almost had a sort of aura around it. The glare from behind suddenly changed its angle, and highlighted the eagle's golden orbs, bringing to light the scar over its right eye. Seeing as there was no one else around, the only logical, despite how illogical it may seem, conclusion to draw was that the eagle was talking, and that, of all things, it was probably talking to him. Raising both hands, left palm over his right fist, in the only sign of respect that was ever taught to him, and bowing slightly with his eyes locked onto the golden orbs above him, Trystan replied, remembering to introduce himself first as was customary for the Japanese, who were so very mindful of their manners. He had no idea where Touka was from, but it was probably a safe bet to go with the rules of ettiquete prescribed by the land that they were currently in. "Forgive my rudeness for not noticing your presence. My name is Yamato Trystan; who might you be?" |

When the eagle saw Trystan greet him in a respectable fashion the only thing he did in response was bow his head slightly in response before returning back to silence. His eyes had soon been cast back to the sky, as if they were unable to remain separated from that view as the eagle turned back into silence. When he had finally heard Trystan apologize about not noticing his presence earlier the eagle shook his head slightly in response. It was not a surprise for even a trained warrior like Trystan not to caught any sign of his presence, the reasons for that oblivious to anyone but himself before he finally received the question of who exactly he was. It was such a complicated thing, or rather it was just extremely difficult to explain it to what he considered a simple-minded species but that could have just been because of how he was used to leading long and complicated discussions with sages and elders who surpassed at least the three numbers count when it came to age. How much did he miss those times when he realized he only had kids and younglings to talk to in the present day, yet he decided to answer it as simple as possible. “I am a guardian of the Aquila and appointed as Touka’s supervisor. Where she goes I will remain by her side and for my name? Aquila Vesica, but you may address be as Ves. Yet I would like to ask you a question in response Yamato-san… What purpose does your oath contain? Why would a human willingly mingle in a conflict that would pit him against his own kin? No… My real question would be how you were able to make that girl open up to you, to a human… To the very same beings that killed her once and took away her sister… But that question is something only she would possess the answer to I guess.” Suddenly the eyes of the eagle locked into Trystan’s face, the golden colored eyes of the beast peering intensely into his, as if their gaze was trying to see right past the flesh that made up the shell of his mortal body and find out what sort of ideas would have been floating within his soul. While he had thought not to take any actions just yet something had made him react already. Was it his own insecurity? Or maybe it was just the fact he couldn’t accept the idea of a human turning out as that girl’s hope, nor the idea of that young boy holding such a great burden like the war that would follow their path someday. Still if it was Touka’s wish the least he could do was confirm that young man his real intentions. What if those intentions were pure and real? Then perhaps he would see how their future would unfold but if the answer those intentions contained didn’t satisfy him enough to give his approval? Then he would kill him… |

“I am a guardian of the Aquila and appointed as Touka’s supervisor. Where she goes I will remain by her side and for my name? Aquila Vesica, but you may address be as Ves. No… My real question would be how you were able to make that girl open up to you, to a human… To the very same beings that killed her once and took away her sister… But that question is something only she would possess the answer to I guess.” Trystan did not allow his own gaze to waver, maintaining direct eye contact with the Guardian. If he wanted to read his intentions, then he would allow the Beastkin to do so for as long as he wanted - he had no doubt of his own convictions, and that was more than reason enough to have no fear of having his true being exposed. Ever since the day he set out on this path, he had been guided by one, and only one, principle only. It was just that simple. Without a hint of doubt in his voice, Trystan responded to Ves. "Your question, forgive my disrespect, seems absurd to me. Are you saying that there was never a time when the Beastkin fought amongst themselves for a transgression of laws? Or are you saying that Beastkin would never turn against each other in conflict because they could do no wrong? There is only one purpose to my oath, and that is to uphold Great Justice. Kin or not, what is wrong and improper, what is vulgar and base, will never change for the individual - Great Justice will never waver, will never be unknown. Those who go against the inexorable flow of Great Justice must be punished, regardless of the severity of the punishment itself. That is all that there is to it. As for why Touka accepts me, I do not care. She has accepted me for who I am, and so I will accept her for who she is, doing my best to protect her and to fight for her cause so long as I breathe. That is my oath, sworn with my honor on the line." |

When Trystan had responded with a question from his own the eagle suddenly spread his wings and released a loud screech, nearly to the point it looked like he was going to attack the boy before he suddenly closed his wings again and shook his head slightly. An idea like having the Beastkin fight against each other was out of question to him. In his entire life he had never heard words that contained so much foolishness as the question Trystan asked did. Yet it must had been exactly because it was a youngling like him who asked it that the eagle decided to disregard the question that had offended him. It must had been natural for him to think the way he had done, exactly because it must had been a foolish ideal in his eyes. The idea of a eternal unification must had been impossible to imagine with a history that had pitted humans against each other in countless wars and conflicts. Yet he must someday come to realize that in many ways humans and the Beastkin were different from each other for what was a ideal for humans was reality for the Beastkin. United for as long as the Beastkin had known, but this unification was greatly influenced by the looming threat the creators had been so in the end the Eagle responded in a calm fashion. “Never… Never did a Beastkin raised his arms against another one, certainly we know conflict but that never expanded to the point words couldn’t reach. But this must be something you can’t understand just yet so I will try to explain it. They never were even had the opinion to fight among themselves because of the creators. In the end their threat was what given the birth to the spirit of unification that lasted eternal. But I will be interested to see how you will express that greater justice. In the end people look at everything from their own perspective, and their sense of justice could conflict against yours one day, even as noble as it is…” After finishing his words a small laugh escaped from the Eagle’s beak. His amusement had been tickled by how his conversation with that boy had reminded him of a older time. He somehow seemed to had grown nostalgic with the words Trystan had spoken just a moment ago. He truly was a interesting one, young but quite interesting. Casting his gaze back toward the sky the eagle closed his eyes for a moment. He had realized that this potentially could be the start of a new chapter for Touka, and most likely for the young Trystan as well. Yet the aid would not come unwelcomed for he knew many hardships awaited them in the future and finally spoke once more. “She has accepted me for who I am, and so I will accept her for who she is? A interesting choice of words… I wonder where I heard them before…” Edited by Touka Aquila, Jan 30 2009, 09:07 PM.

In the end people look at everything from their own perspective, and their sense of justice could conflict against yours one day, even as noble as it is…” Trystan listened in silence, wholeheartedly accepting the words of chiding wisdom contained within the eagle's words. It indeed was a foreign idea to him that a group of people could exist in perfect harmony with each other. However, he could not shake off the uncomfortable feeling that, despite how cynical it sounded, he was almost certain that if the Beastkin had been the ones who had created humans, it would be the Beastkin who would be constantly at war, with humans being the ones living in oppressed harmony. Those who have a clear advantage in the order of things generally do not worry too much about the ones underneath them, and would thus try to secure their own places amongst their own society, and war amongst themselves over abstract ideals and political leverage. Thus was the lesson that countless conflicts in history have taught mankind. It was probably from these conflicts that the ideals of Great Justice arose. Of course it was possible that another's sense of Justice would conflict with his, but that was the innate nature of his philosophy. Great Justice was something that could not be fathomed as a whole. As great as certain minds and ideals could be, there was no form of self-Justice that could encompass the entirety of the greater Justice at once. Trystan gripped his fists tighter. When the time comes to that, it would be up to the flow of the Greater Justice itself to determine which would come out on top - it was simply a matter that was out of mortal hands and transcended into the realm of the greater powers, whatever they may be. There was only one code of conduct he lived by, and that was that with Great Kung Fu came Great Justice. With that, he was satisfied; the rest was out of his reach, and so he wouldn't bother with the futile exercise of trying to grasp them. If he was judged to be wrong by the flow of the Great Justice, even after exerting the greatest Kung Fu he could manage, then so be it. Clasping his hands sincerely together, Trystan bowed once more. "I thank you humbly for your words of caution." After a moment's silence, Ves spoke once more. “She has accepted me for who I am, and so I will accept her for who she is? A interesting choice of words… I wonder where I heard them before…” Perhaps the eagle was revisiting old memories, or was simply talking to himself. Regardless, he would have felt that it was unsuitable to admit that his first exposure to this idea was when he was still a child, and had, due to sheer naivety, befriended a deranged social menace, and had nearly ended up being stoned to death for his act of friendship had the man not used his own life to save his. Instead, he decided to speak about it in an indirect manner. "My Master gave me these words after...an earlier incident. Pardon my asking but, where have you heard those words before?" When Trystan asked him where he had heard those words before the eagle shook his head slightly. He had felt a sparkle of hope in the question of the young man, as if it was of important for him to know who had spoken those words before, sadly enough he had to disappoint him for the person who had spoken the words in his memories wouldn’t even have any vague resemblance to the person Trystan might had been thinking about. The eyes of the eagle suddenly displayed a glint of loneliness as he retreated into silence, recalling those bitter moments of the past before he suddenly spoke in a even-toned voice that seemed to had been suppressing the emotions he was experiencing. “There was once a time a Beastkin believed that words could make the creators realize the wrongness of their ways, that person was supposed to become the next chief of Touka’s tribe… The person I speak about was known as Mutsumi, the first child of the Beastkin hero known as Hakouro, what basically made her Touka’s older sister… Lord Hakouro’s bloodline is said to date back to our very first ancestor so while not only being the chiefs of the Aquila tribe they received great respect from our entire race. It might had been that respect that had caused them to agree with Mutsumi’s beliefs.” If the eagle was able to express any detailed expressions he most likely would have smiled bitterly as he recalled those old memories with such nostalgic. He still remembered how the young eagle girl rallied everyone of her tribe together and spoke with such passion about establishing peace. Maybe it was because of the way she sounded so convincing that many people started to look up to her, despite her conflicting opinion. While many of them imaged that having the creators leave them in peace was just naïve fantasy they did desire not see another war repeated. Yet little did everyone expect what fate would await the girl… “At first her plans did succeed thanks to the cooperation of a female creator who unlike her companions despises violence and wanted to find a way to learn more about the Beastkin without harming them. Maybe it was their young age that had made the two, despite their difference in species get along with each other. Even the little Touka would take a liking to the female creator, but only horror awaited them… Our trust was betrayed… The exact details are lost to even myself but I recall that the frustration within our people was starting to rise with rumors of more creators appearing at the border of our world yet Mutsumi said those remarkable words to us back then… “She accepted me for who I am and so in return I shall accept her for who she is.” Where those words a display of the faith she had in her human friend? It was a question never to be answered for the next day Mutsumi and Touka departed to meet their friend, but only one would return alive…” Once more the eagle resorted into silence as he recalled those nightmarish images of the day they were forced to acknowledge the truth. When Mutsumi and Touka didn’t return that night the Beastkin had send out their scouts who brought back a horrifying discovery. At the cottage near the border of their world, the place the two Aquila girls used to meet their human friend signs of combat were found, they were betrayed! “The men of our tribe searched like they were possessed, just to confirm what in the world had happened but not even our hardened warriors were prepared for the sight that awaited them… Only a small distance away from the cottage they founded a crying Touka covered with bloodstains as the panic and grief made her unable to speak decently. Yet the words “T-They killed nee-sama…” Were clearly heard coming from her. Did you know that the creators don’t just ‘kill’ us? They capture us and use our bodies for their vile researchers until our mind scatters and any hope for a savior would be lost. That was how they found Mutsumi, her lips curled up in a bitter smile as she stared absently toward the clouded sky. They had taken her soul… Whatever those traitors did to her remained unknown, but the wounds they left behind had hurt us for eternity.” Closing his eyes once more the eagle dug his claws deeper into the tree branch, as if to unleash his anger. The screams of pain and sadness the death of her sister brought her had been enough to chill the spirits of anyone around her, so grave was the pain of the young Touka’s loss. Maybe it was during that time he vowed that he would prevent her from having to deal with such a pain again. Yet he was still powerless even now… “It is the tradition of our race that we release those who felt to the hands of the creators, so that their bodies can be reunited with their spirits again. Yet how could one ever explain this to a child? Let stand a sister… Was there a way to justify what had happened? For Touka the only explanation she could find was that it wasn’t a creator but a human who killed her elder sister. Yet she was a too kind soul to bear such intense hatred and in the end she herself locked away the memories of what unfolded. This is why we respect her decision for she was now Touka, only child to the hero of the Beastkin. I cannot tell if she still burdens herself with those bitter and painful memories but the hatred she felt during that moment still burned brightly within us, we need to find out why we were betrayed… Maybe it was fate that it was exactly Touka who was send to the outside world, for she can not only find the answers our people want, but she might have her own questions answered one day also…” |

Trystan listened on in silent horror. To think that the human race would fall so low as to create life for the sole purpose of satisfying some idle curiosity was beyond him. At the very least, when raising cattle or pigs, they were raised for a vital purpose - that of obtaining nutrition. But to treat the responsibility of having created a life so casually, to the extent that it was fine to toy with a soul, was absolutely despicable. Who did they think they were, to play the role of God? “It is the tradition of our race that we release those who felt to the hands of the creators, so that their bodies can be reunited with their spirits again. Yet how could one ever explain this to a child? Let stand a sister… Was there a way to justify what had happened? For Touka the only explanation she could find was that it wasn’t a creator but a human who killed her elder sister. This Mutsumi had worked under the same assumption that he did - that mutual respect was a given fact. However, one had met with a tragic fate, while the other glimpsed this truth after meeting with another who met an early demise for his sake. He had known it already, but after hearing the story of the Beastkin, the unfortunate truth of the world slapped him hard upside the head. Despite the sanctuaries dotting the globe, the world was still a cruel, cruel place. It was simply too much for one to bear only on their own shoulders. "It may be too presumptuous of me, but...I hope that she will share her burdens with me when the time comes. The weight and the pain of sorrows...should not be carried alone." |

A moment of silence lingered in the air after Trystan had spoken. Maybe Ves had surrounded his mind was memories once more, or perhaps it was just out of respect of the resolve and determination that the young boy’s words had carried. His head lowered slightly and his eyes closed the old eagle seemed to had found comfort in this silence, a silence that would not last much longer for the eagle suddenly had cast his stare back toward the sky. It was strange yet understandable while he gazed into the sky so often. Maybe it was because of his blood that he always longed for that space without boundaries, a feeling that the young Touka might had expressed with the way she had brought herself asleep. Trystan must had been right when he thought Touka, and certainly the entire Aquila tribe somehow had been connected with birds. Finally after the long-lasting silence the eagle responded in the voice that might had belonged to a elderly man rather than a proud warrior. “That would be good... While she is not yet aware of the true burdens she has been wearing there will be a day that she has to face them, and your support might decide the result of that confrontation.. Yet it won’t only be a mental burden, for you will be faced with quite a lot of them in the future. You must have already been aware of the fact she is about to go at war right? Her quest will lead her to face against the creators, humans with enough power both individual and political that they might cause the conflict to turn into a large-scale war… Yet you decide to accompany her along that journey? If you do then I will call you Trystan Aquila Amicus, or Trystan friend of the eagles…” It seemed that with those words the old eagle acknowledged the decision the young Touka had made. If she had accepted Trystan’s aid and saw him as a friend, a comrade in arms then so would he, and the entire Aquila tribe with them. Yes they had faced a great betrayal before but if she was to place her trust into a human he, nor anyone else would have the right to deny his offer to aid them. It was finally after another short moment of silence that the eagle suddenly took flight and replied in a slightly amused voice. “Untill we meet again eagle friend… You should wake her up soon, or she will have troubles hiding her wings later on…” |

If you do then I will call you Trystan Aquila Amicus, or Trystan friend of the eagles…” Flipping out his ragged cape from behind him, Trystan got down onto his knees, then bowed deeply, his forehead touching the ground, a solemn show of gratitude. Names really were important. Even his own name was given to him several years ago by Nina; he had really been a nameless wanderer like in the many romanticized stories that were so popular these days. Not having a name for yourself was something akin to lacking an identity in the world itself. There was no way for someone to relate to you, except by using vague pronouns or references to characteristics that made him stick out like a sore thumb. That one. Hey you. The one with the weird clothes. Him. That was how he was referred to in the past. But now, he was Yamato Trystan, as well as Trystan Aquila Amicus, the friend of the Eagles. Perhaps others would not understand why he thought so much of yet another name. However, their opinions on this matter did not matter to him the least; these were simply the small things he valued in life. "I accept the name with thanks." “Untill we meet again eagle friend… You should wake her up soon, or she will have troubles hiding her wings later on…” Getting up, he looked towards the quickly receding form of Ves. The sun got into his eyes, but he didn't really mind. There was only one thought running through his head. At that time, Ves had sounded a lot like his Father. When he had first decided to embark upon his path as an upholder of Justice, he had been asked the same question. Was he ready to enter this dirty world of violence and greed? It was the same then as it was now, and as it will ever be as long as he lived - what was wrong would never be right, and would thus need to be corrected. Shaking himself from these thoughts, Trystan turned back towards the sleeping form of Touka, gently raising a hand to her shoulder and shaking it softly. "Touka? Are you awake?" |

It must had looked strange for people to see some finding happiness in such little or pointless things. Yet it wasn’t exactly little or pointless at the same time also. It might had been because people had started to grow used with living with such luxury and technology that for them the idea of peace or even comfort were casual things, not even worth noticing, yet for the young Touka this moment of peace had given her much more comfort than any amount of riches could ever gave her. Just swinging gently in the wind, her wings carefully supporting her so that she could remain floating while the gentle breeze had reminded her of the long summers back home. It was no wonder that she had drifted to sleep so quickly, despite wanting to wait for Trystan to wake up first, but in the end her mind had given in to the serene peace and drifted into slumber, until a hand gently rested on her shoulder, shaking it softly. “Nyuu… Just five more minutes…” It was strange how easily one could get nostalgic with just a few elements to provide them with memories of the past, luckily this memory had been one of a better time, for the little smile pained on the sleeping face of the girl betrayed she must have had some joy in reliving that past. Yet that past would soon be cut short when the girl suddenly made a small swing backwards, her wings neatly coming loose from the branch they used for support before she gracefully landed on top of the grass, gently rubbing her eyes with her hands as she spoke in a absent voice. “Oh? Try-pan is awake already?” Suddenly raising her arms into the air the girl stretched them softly, as if to cast away the drowsiness that had overwhelmed her body while her wings spread into their full-length in response. Actually it was easy to notice that somehow the wings looked back sparkling new, the feathers clean but strong as if they had recovered to the beautiful look they once had. Was it a ability of the Beastkin? Who knows but the sight of the giant wings unfolding behind her truly would make one realize she was a child of the eagles. Finally after a few more moments the girl her eyes had regained their focused gaze as she smiled toward Trystan and spoke in a cheerful voice. “Good morning Trystan~ Hehe or would it be good evening already?” |

“Nyuu… Just five more minutes…” Trystan smiled as the sleeping form of Touka curled up a bit tighter, apparently refusing his beckons to return to the world of the conscious. It was understandable - when one naps, it was usually intended to be a short period of rest which lasted from fifteen minutes to half an hour. Any more, and it would have been considered a short period of sleep, and being woken after 3 or 4 hours of rest was never a comfortable position to be in. Well, regardless, the sky was darkening, and sleeping out in a night like this was bound to give you the sniffles in the morning. "I'm afraid not, Touka. Sleeping out in the open may feel nice, but it's getting chilly - you'll get a cold." As he finished speaking, Touka unwound her wings from overhead, then lowered herself to the ground softly. It was actually quite the sight to see, as it almost seemed like, with the wings on her back, an angel had descended in front of him. He had held his hands out in front of him in case she had needed help getting down, but it seemed as if he had just been thinking too much; she was of the eagle tribe, after all. “Oh? Try-pan is awake already?” Try-pan..? Was that his new nickname now? Well, as long as nobody else started to refer to him in that manner, it'd be alright. He didn't think he would be able to stand it if his name suddenly became something as cute as that. For some reason, the image of his face on the body of some unidentifiable cute furry animal as a pet came to mind. However, he was shaken from his thoughts when Touka stretched out, her wings expanding to their full length. He was slightly puzzled by the apparent healing on her feathers, but he was glad. The way they looked before certainly did not fit the cheerful and innocent smile which he saw before him. “Good morning Trystan~ Hehe or would it be good evening already?” Trystan smiled back in response. How could he not, with the smile in front of him? He decided to keep his meeting with Ves a secret from Touka for now. If Ves had wanted Touka to know about this meeting, he probably wouldn't have flown away right before he told Trystan to wake her up. At least, that was the only explanation he could come up with at the moment. "It seems that we have rested for awhile. Thanks for waiting for me to wake up, even though I have kept you out here for longer than you probably would have liked." |

When Trystan had thanked her for waiting for him to wake up the girl shook her head slightly toward his comment, her smile still remaining. There would have been no way for her not to have liked the time she spend here waiting for him to wake up. This place felt for her like a small heaven on earth, a place of serene tranquility that was found so sparse in the outside world. Somehow it always had nagged the back of her mind, how the large cities and town slowly had eaten away nature and where once mighty trees, countless fields of flowers and rivers had flown now stood giant apartment blocks, shopping districts or other buildings, yet she felt that none of them could match the beauty nature had to offer. Maybe that had been the reason why she felt that the way humans made their buildings without paying respect to nature, for rather than living together in harmony with nature, like her kin did humans often decided to cast away nature, conquering the places as they filled up their world with more and more buildings. “Not at all~ I love staying at places like this. It’s one of the few sources of my joy in the outside world. You can hear the trees mumbling in their sleep, the birds talking about their travels and the wind whistling a playful melody, it’s a sight incomparable to those man-made buildings.” She nodded her head slightly in response to her own words. It was true that she rarely heard the voices of the forest or the animals when she was inside a city. It must had been all that chaos as humans spend their daily lives that had caused her to be unable to hear the things she truly desired. Yet the question remained how long this tranquility would remain? When would the humans of this city finally give in to the greed and desire to expand their domains? Would they cut down the trees? Would the fields of flowers become the plaza of a new district? Would the hill end up serving as the foundation of a building? Would humans end up foolish enough to destroy more nature? Until nothing remained of it? “It is strange… I find the human civilization interesting and sort of fascinating but yet as I learn more about it I end up feeling more and more disgusted. It’s like the outside world carries two different faces. One of them tries to make life more enjoyable, making people to live in comfort and safety and follow their dreams for the future yet the other face shows only darkness… Jealousy for the achievements of another, ignorance for the suffering of those around them, the desire to chase the future, yet not caring for the results of their actions, still what face is the real one?” |

“It is strange… I find the human civilization interesting and sort of fascinating but yet as I learn more about it I end up feeling more and more disgusted. It’s like the outside world carries two different faces. One of them tries to make life more enjoyable, making people to live in comfort and safety and follow their dreams for the future yet the other face shows only darkness… Jealousy for the achievements of another, ignorance for the suffering of those around them, the desire to chase the future, yet not caring for the results of their actions, still what face is the real one?” Trystan thought for a moment before replying. What Touka had noticed was something that he had come to percieve as an unfortunate, but fundamental truth. The symbol of Yin and Yang was not a coincidental creation for the sake of the hippies that wandered the western land - it was a simple statement of how things were. Some preferred to see it as a reflection of how there would always be an ounce of good within the worst man or how the kindest man would always have some sort of dark splotch within their personality. However, perhaps due to the things that he had experienced, he did not believe that the true message the symbol conveyed was not something so optimistic and ideal. "I do not believe that there is any race or species which has not, at some point or another, felt the grip of the evils you have mentioned around their hearts. It is an undeniable truth. However, truth as it may be, I would still prefer to think that the world is this way simply because it is easier to be like so. If people would firm up their resolves and take the difficult path, the world may very well be the peaceful place that it could have been." |

“I believe that I should be glad for the fact the prison we were raised in also proved to be a heaven to protect us from such darkness. Maybe it was because we had so little that we always were happy. Just to be able to live was already a blessing isn’t it? Living alongside nature, surrounded by friends and family and following a path to a future you decide yourself, perhaps that is a sort of true happiness? Yet you are right about the fact every being once has to come to face the presence known as evil. Even if we prey hours after the hunt it doesn’t change the fact we had taken a being’s life. I guess that in a sense the hatred I feel deep within me is a form of evil also? Yet we all were taught that one has to learn to accept such feelings, learn to deal with them rather than being controlled. Maybe our friendship was partly thanks to my attempt to repent for possessing such hatred? It must have been… Yes, I truly believe that our friendship might prove to me that there are different humans than creators, that there are indeed people who are kind at heart.” Slowly Touka made her way back toward Trystan, her eyes gazing toward the sun that was settling down in the distance, causing day slowly to turn into night. Soon the lips of the eagle girl had returned back into a small smile, the calmness of their surroundings slowly starting to represent the state of the girl her mind. For a moment her dark blue eyes gazed into the distance, as the sun slowly started to disappear from her sight. Actually she looked lost in thoughts, as if she was about to make a important decision, but what would it be? Yet her words earlier did carry a sort of hidden meaning. Could it be that her friendship with Trystan made him represent humans as a whole? Was she depending on him to allow her to give humanity a second chance? To make her believe they weren’t the demons she heard them to be in the old stories? Yet the words that were soon to follow were to take a surprisingly twist when she finally turned around, her expression still gentle, yet carrying a serious nature that wasn’t there before as she reached out toward Trystan’s hand. “I have decided… Trystan, do you know of the existence of a cosmosphere? I believe you might call it the inner-mind in a sense. Yet for us Beastkin this cosmosphere is a reality within our mind, in a sense it can affect us in reality also. While we often depend on our cosmosphere to develop new abilities or powers it also ends up being the place where we have to face our mental-problems… Yet my cosmosphere has been engulfed in darkness somewhere during my childhood. I believe something must have happened, something inside my mind that caused the strong hatred I have developed against humans. I’m afraid I’m not brave enough to face the darkness within my mind so I want to ask this favor of you… Will you enter my mind, and face this darkness alongside with me?” |

Trystan took notice of the serious expression on Touka's face immediately as she started to speak to him again. The expression stuck in his mind, even as he listened to her speak. Behind the pensive smile, he could sense her unease, and behind that, the sort of expression one would make right before making an important decision. It was one of utmost concentration, mixed with a look of inner calm. It was complex, to say the least. He started a little, but soon relaxed, as she reached over and took his larger, and rather dirty, hand within hers. I’m afraid I’m not brave enough to face the darkness within my mind so I want to ask this favor of you… Will you enter my mind, and face this darkness alongside with me?” He had no idea what a cosmosphere was, nor had he ever heard of such abilities as bringing people into another's inner-mind. However, the very fact that Touka would, despite having just met him, trust him to the extent that she would bring him to somewhere as private as her own mind and past, was reason enough for him to agree to her proposal without a second thought. "You trust me enough to ask of me to help you through the problems you face; who am I to refuse you? Once a pledge is made, a man will not go back on his words. Just tell me how, and I will be there for you. Just tell me what you want me to do." |
