To shop or not to shop

Her sister was being annoying.

"Come on, Robbie, we're just going to shop for a dress, it won't even take that long!" Samantha whined as she practically pulled her sister by the hand, down to where Dervish & Bangles would be. Well, Sam thought, at least she didn't put up a fight like last time. With a small sigh, she stopped walking and turned to her sister with a scowl. "Love, my arm is getting tired by constantly dragging you along and it would be so much easier if you'd just stop putting up any resistance. We are going to get a new, beautiful dress for your first date, if it's the last thing I do." Samantha sniffed, "I've seen what hangs in your closet and it's definitely not the kind of thing you'd want to wear on a date, at least if you don't want your date to run away as fast as he can."

She took a step closer to her sister and pouted. "Please, Robbie?! If you don't want to look nice for him, at least do it for me, please?" Damn, she hoped this worked, because once her sister decided that this idea was a ridiculous one, which could happen any minute really, she'd be dragged double as fast back to Hogwarts and she wouldn't be able to do a thing about it. Stupid Quidditch. She ought to play it too if it gave you that much strenght.

The image of her on a broom about twentyfive feet in the air made her wince. Or not.

Robbie sighed behind her and relaxed. Victory! "Yay, thank you, thank you, thank you, you're my most favourite person in the world," and off it went, this time a tad easier, towards Dervish & Banges, where Sam knew would be the all new winter collection and shopping with her sister gave her a good excuse to look around some.

Okay, so, she was trying to shop less, but this didn't count, did it?

Not pondering the subject any further, she pushed her sister into the store and wave off a few of the sale clerks who'd already been running their way, offering to help. "I know what I'm doing, I can handle it myself, thanks," she said in a sweet voice and with a wide smile. The person who'd said that only bad girls go everywhere had been a liar.

It didn't take her long to find the dress section. Positioning her sister in front of her, she pondered on what she could get her. "Okay, Robbie, what message do you want to send him. Is it, 'I only went on this date with you' because I feel sorry for you', 'I think you're really nice, but I want to take it slow', or," her gaze got amused, "'I want you to take me on this table, right now!'"

Her sister was being annoying.

Why had she let her little sister drag her shopping? Why had she been stupid enough to tell Sammy about her upcoming date with Daegan Maher? Why oh why did she even agree to go out with him in the first place? Her stomach did an uneasy flip flop at the thought of upcoming date. The image of the handsome Puff standing in the warm afternoon sunlight without his shirt on made her cheeks flush again.

Merlin, even the thought of him was making her blush. How was she supposed to go on a date with him?

"Come on, Robbie, we're just going to shop for a dress, it won't even take that long!" Sammy interrupted her thoughts.

"A dress?" Robbie looked at her sister in horror. "What's wrong with what I'm wearing?" She glanced down at herself. She was wearing the same thing she always wore when not wearing her school uniform. Comfortable jeans, baggy tshirt and sneakers. Maybe not the most stylish but at least she was comfortable.

"Love, my arm is getting tired by constantly dragging you along and it would be so much easier if you'd just stop putting up any resistance. We are going to get a new, beautiful dress for your first date, if it's the last thing I do. I've seen what hangs in your closet and it's definitely not the kind of thing you'd want to wear on a date, at least if you don't want your date to run away as fast as he can." The distain in Sammy's voice was apparent. "Please, Robbie?! If you don't want to look nice for him, at least do it for me, please?"

Heaving a sigh, Robbie relented and followed her little sister without any further resistance. Sammy's squeals of delight put a reluctant grin on Robbie's face. She had always loved seeing her kid sister happy. And if that meant she had to allow her to drag her from store to store and dress her up like a bloody doll... well so be it.

With a sweet smile, Sammy quickly dismissed the sales clerk who met them at the door of Dervish and Banges and made her way to a corner of the store that seemed to be dedicated to ever bit of frill and fluff the wizarding world had to offer. Robbie didn't bother to hide her groan. This was going to be a disaster.

"Okay, Robbie, what message do you want to send him. Is it, 'I only went on this date with you' because I feel sorry for you', 'I think you're really nice, but I want to take it slow', or, 'I want you to take me on this table, right now!'" The amused twinkle in Sammy's eye cause no small amount of alarm within Robbie.

"Samantha Halden!" Robbie blurted out in a horrified whisper as she glanced around to see if anyone heard her.

"I am not ... He ... I can't believe you!" She sputterred in the same hushed tone. "Daegan Maher is not interested in me like that!" Robbie blew out a frustrated breath and lifted a hand up to toy with the soft pink sleeve of dress on the rack in front of her.

"Just grab something and then lets go. Then I can get a little practice in before it gets dark." She grumbled. Soaring through the air on her trusty Firebolt is exactly where she wished she was right now. Hell, anywhere other than the dress section of the fancy shop with her over eager little sister.

Sniggering at her sister's reaction at her words -- sometimes, Robbie could be so predictable -- her gaze fell in a nice, knee-lenght, spaghetti-strapped, black dress. As she was reaching out for it, her sister dropped a name that made her stop in her tracks. Daegan Maher. Daegan bloody Maher. It couldn't be! "Did you just say Daegan Maher?!" she asked, incredulously, dropping her hand to her side and facing her sister fully. Come to think of it, she couldn't remember her sneaky bint of a sister ever actually giving her the name of her date. Sammy had been so excited that her sister had scored one in the first place to be concerned about any sort of name.

But Daegan Maher, hell, that changed things. "Not that I'm not impressed, he's quite hot, but... how did that happen?" she asked cautiously, not wanting to irritate her sister into not telling her how Daegan had asked her on a date.

Sammy knew the bloke had a reputation. And who would be a better victim than sweet, naive little Robbie who totally wouldn't know what would be hitting her? Not that she actually thought of her sister as sweet and naive, far from, she was a bloody menace on the field and a force to be reckoned with, but Daegan was a charmer and a damn good flirter. And her sister was good looking. The only reason Sammy hadn't fallen for it was because she was in the same house as him and she'd heard the stories about him from her fellow housemates. But oh, he'd tried it on her too. He'd tried it on everyone. And now he'd tried it on her sister and he'd damn well succeeded.

Maybe she needed to have a word with the sleezy skirt-chaser.

"Change of plans," she suddenly said, smiling easily, letting none of the concern show on her face. "I don't see any dresses here I actually like, so I think we'll just go for a skirt and you can wear one of your tops. Or you know, borrow one of mine," grabbing her sister by the arm, she pulled her towards another section, not giving her the chance to object or say something. Tapping her chin pensievely, she picked a nice knee-lenght shirt from the rack, a skirt that fanned out a little at the bottom and was covered with small red and white flowers. It had something classe and girly at the same time...

Darn it. Maybe that wasn't exactly the right choice either to get Daegan Maher off of her case. "How's this?" she asked none the less. "Come on, try it on."

Maybe she shouldn't be so concerned. Her sister could fend for herself, after all.

Sammy would just never forgive herself if Robbie somehow started liking the guy more and Daegan would just dump her when he got bored like he usually did. She couldn't stand seeing her sister hurt. But maybe she was getting ahead of herself...
