There was something endlessly relaxing about the cozy situation. It was very late, most of the house was already asleep. She utilized the peace and quiet. She curled up on the end of the dark green sofa, her feet tucked up under her and a roaring fire in the massive fireplace in front of her. Bella rested her elbow on the arm of the plush couch and propped her chin up on her hand as she tried to concentrate on the book in front of her. She was still catching up from classwork she'd missed when her mother had made her impromptu visit to the old castle several days ago. The only problem with the current situation was the way her eyes continuously began to close as if they had a will of their own. The tiny printed words on the pages seemed to blur together time and again. Finally, the loud thud of her Runes text book hitting the hard stone floor woke her again. Heaving a sigh, Bella picked up the book and closed it with a resounding snap. She'd have to try again tomorrow. The only way she'd learn anything right now would be through osmosis. Lifting her slender arms up in the air, she stretched with a loud yawn before unfolding her legs from beneath her and getting to her feet. She tucked the book into her school bag and made her way to the dorm room. Slipping silently into the room, she could hear the gentle sounds of her dorm mates' breathing deeply in their sleep. Her eyes adjusted to the dark room and she surveyed the room. All the beds were filled with her roommates, all except one. The bed next to Bella's was empty. It was still made neatly. Obviously Persephone had found something more interesting than sleep to occupy her time. Her cousin was an interesting character. Their mothers were sisters and Bella and Persephone were extremely close as children but as they began to find their own ways in Hogwarts, they began to drift apart somewhat. Bella still adored her cousin but simply didn't understand her most of the time. Bella shrugged out of her robes and tugged on her favourite emerald tee shirt. The shirt was huge on her slight frame and fell to her knees. Cam had outgrown it earlier this year and she had taken it as a nightgown. It was soft and worn in. Slipping under the cool sheets, she lay back on her pillow and for the first time in a while, she let her thoughts drift to her and Cam's plans. In a few months, she'd be free. |

Bloody boys... scratch that, bloody boys and their stupid penises. That's where their brains were after all, it was a well established fact. If she hadn't been half in the bag, Malcom wouldn't have had a chance, with his bloody stupid boy penis brain. And to think, the slobbering dolt almost touched her. The thought of what might have happened if she hadn't acted... the nausea could have been from the vodka, but she doubted it. And there she was, unceremoniously stumbling through the common room toward what she hoped was the girls dormitory. Getting drunk with boys on a Wednesday night wasn't the norm for Persephone, but there was something to be said for letting go. On the bright side, she had learnt that Malcom could be easily incapacitated with only the smallest amount of nightshade powder, very useful information indeed. She hoped he was allergic or something. Bloody stupid boy with his stinking arm pits and gonads. It was a wonder they were able to survive at all. They did make easy targets for those with breasts and shapely legs. So what if they ruled the world? She was already adept at manipulating them, which meant she would probably rule the world eventually. With that comforting thought, she found her way into the girls room, well either that or there was an epidemic of contagious gynecomastia in the Slytherin house. Though the latter was a very entertaining idea, the former was much more likely. Sleeping, all of them. She quietly tiptoed toward her bed, trying not to wake them. She knew the rumours would spread fast if she was caught by any of her friends. Rumours were never good, and in Persephone's case, normally didn't end well. As she was thinking about the possible repercussions that any gossipping sycophant would suffer at her hands, her foot caught on the edge of a trunk, causing her to tumble onto the trunk owners bed. She was much to drunk to sneak. "Shit." she hissed as she looked at her unexpected bed mate. "Ah, just like old times, eh Bella?" The fall had made her feel woozy and she didn't want to get up right away. "You're in bed early." |

Just as sleep began to take over, Bella was jolted awake as a body sprawled onto her bed. A sharp elbow jabbed her in the ribs as the person fell half on top of her. Her eyes flew open and her hand reached for the wand that sat on her bedside table but even before she could look to see who her abrupt new bunkmate was, she recognized the cursing as that of Persephone's. The smell of vodka assaulted her nose. Bella had never had a taste for the foul drink but her cousin clearly did. "Ah, just like old times, eh Bella?" Persephone made no move to get off the bed. "Far less alcohol back then." Bella chuckled as she moved over slightly to make room for her cousin on the narrow bed. Then rubbed her side tenderly, but the pain almost gone already. "And a few less cracked ribs. I bloody well need to place a cushioning charm on myself before I hop into bed if you are still about." She teased with a grin. "Who knows when you'll drop in for a visit." A few moments silence filled the room, Bella had begun to think her older cousin (by all of two and a half months) had dozed off beside her. It would not be the first time the two cousins had slept in the same bed together. When they were children, they'd done this many times. Staring at the ceiling and talking about the important things, like which member of the Flaming Cauldrons was the cutest and whether or not it was possible to catch cooties from boys. "You're in bed early." Persephone stated simply, interrupting Bella's reverie. "Early?" Bella turned her head to look at the other girls profile with a grin. "It's almost three in the morning. Not exactly what I'd consider early. Besides, I was doing Runes homework. That is guaranteed to put anyone to sleep." "Percy, love, you woke me up so the least you can do is entertain me with tales of what you were up to tonight." Bella rolled to her side to look at the other girl. Propping her head up on her hand, her eyes sparkled. "Remember, I'm practically an old married woman. I'm not allowed to have fun anymore, I have to live vicariously through you." |

"Early? It's almost three in the morning. Not exactly what I'd consider early. Besides, I was doing Runes homework. That is guaranteed to put anyone to sleep." Persephone laughed lightly, knowing all too well her cousin's pain. Her eyes started to droop as she let her head fall back on the bed, as if being reminded of the time was a trigger for her body to register fatigue. The fact that she had just drank enough to fell a sailor and then stumbled through the tunnels to the Slytherin dormitories only served to hasten the impending slumber. "Percy, love, you woke me up so the least you can do is entertain me with tales of what you were up to tonight." If only she knew... "Remember, I'm practically an old married woman. I'm not allowed to have fun anymore, I have to live vicariously through you." Persephone blinked, not registering the meaning of her cousin's words. In her inebriated state, she had almost forgotten about the betrothal. Persephone propped her head up to face her cousin. It was hard to believe that Bella was going to be married. They weren't even done school yet, their potential hadn't been fully realized. For once, Persephone didn't envy the fact that Bella was in line to inherit the family business. At least Persephone didn't have to worry about arranged marriages. The money would have been nice, but the fact remained that Bella had a lot of responsibilities that Persephone didn't have to worry about. It left her free to amuse herself. Persephone liked the idea of having the duty of having fun for her cousin, especially if she got to brag about it after the fact. She made a mental note to concoct more schemes for that specific purpose. She was so excited by the possibilitie that she almost forgot to answer Bella's request. "I went out with the boys." She whispered mischievously. "Malcom made a pass at me." She couldn't repress a quiet giggle. "You wouldn't happen to know if he has an allergy to nightshade, would you? Ah, no matter. He tried to make a pass at me, so I challenged him to a contest." A sly smile washed across her face as she remembered the peculiar shade of ashen green the boy's face had taken after the third round. "I took some liberties and gave myself a slight advantage. I'm just a poor defenceless girl, you know." She batted her eyes, the strobe effect caused the room to spin a little bit. |

"I went out with the boys." Persephone giggled quietly. "Malcom made a pass at me." Bella watched her cousin with an amused grin on her own face. Malcolm Baldwin was a boy of questionable morals. Hell, no one was certain if he had any morals to speak of. Percy would not have been very receptive to his advances. The mere thought of it was laughable. "You wouldn't happen to know if he has an allergy to nightshade, would you? Ah, no matter. He tried to make a pass at me, so I challenged him to a contest. I took some liberties and gave myself a slight advantage. I'm just a poor defenceless girl, you know." Persephone's pretty features lit up a grin filled with mischief. "Nightshade?" Bella turned her face into the pillow to smother the laughter that escaped her. Only Percy would think of knocking the unsuspecting boy out with a dose or two of the herb. "Well, if we hear that he's been rushed to the hospital ward, that should tell us if he is allergic." She giggled softly. Well if she had to live vicariously through anyone for the next few months, who better than Percy. She was always the fun loving one. The more daring of the two. Bella had always been saddled with more pressure, and now that she and Cam were engaged, the expectations on her had increased twofold. She lay back on the bed and looked up at the canopy above them. A soft sigh escaped her. "I'm envious of you, Percy." Her voice was low but earnest. "You have your whole life ahead of you. No pressure, no expectations, nothing but your future is laying on your shoulders." Despite her and Cam's big plans, her future was not as free as she'd like. It would be dictated by their need to hide and run. If there was one person in the world Bella wanted to tell everything to besides Jane, it was Persephone. Yet she knew that wasn't even an option. She would have to rely on one last owl after she and Cam left, to tell Percy everything and hope her cousin would understand the lies and secrecy. |

"I'm envious of you, Percy. You have your whole life ahead of you. No pressure, no expectations, nothing but your future is laying on your shoulders." Persephone could hear a note of honesty in Bella's voice, she was being frank in the midst of the joking. Persephone found it slightly sobering. "I know Iz, but you have security. You know what you are going to wake up to, and there is a lot to be said for that. You'd never catch me putting up with what you are, but that's why I get to live for you." Persephone joked with a drunken grin. She followed her cousins gaze up to the canopy, wondering what was so fascinating about the draped fabric. However, being persephone, she bored of the staring contest quickly and rolled over again to face Bella. "I have an idea! We should pick a fight. Tomorrow!" Her eyes lit up as she forgot the hushed tones required of the dormitory full of sleeping girls. "Hear me out" She continued, quieting herself. "It'll be fun, and we could totally take anyone in the school if we're together. Maybe we could get some of the other girls in on the action." She had been itching for a real good fight for a while. Persephone started formulating a plan in her mind, what she would do, what she would say. It was going to be so much fun! She went down her mental list of people she could count on, the girls who would get into the fray just for the hell of it. The only real way to get the most participation was to pick a fight with the Gryffindors. Easy targets, but they put up a good fight. |

"I have an idea! We should pick a fight. Tomorrow!" Persephone exclaimed. Her voice alive with drunken excitement. Bella stifled a giggle as one of their dorm mates muttered something about 'inconsiderate people'. Before Bella could respond Percy continued with a lowered tone but still filled with excitement. ""Hear me out. It'll be fun, and we could totally take anyone in the school if we're together. Maybe we could get some of the other girls in on the action." Her blue eyes appearing almost black in the darkened room. "So we are just going to randomly pick a fight, Perc? Not very sporting of us." She laughed softly. This was another drunken idea that would be forgotten by morning. The cousins had always been there to watch out for each other when they were young, so there had been plenty of times with the duo would end up in a battle of wits with some poor group of girls who never knew what hit them. There was no shortage of razor sharp wit and scathing remarks with Percy in the mix. That girl could leave a wake of sobbing girls behind her. When she put any thought into it, she was adept at reducing most girls into little more than verbal pincushions and had likely caused more than one eating disorder with her comments. It was side of her cousin that Bella couldn't help but love. Bella was the good girl. She was more than capable of doing similar damage but she also had a heavy burden of expectation and responsibility laying on her shoulders that made her a little less likely to join her cousin in the fun. But this was different. Percy was drunk and Bella was too tired to get into a disagreement with her about this. Not now anyways, not with three other girls sleeping soundly nearby. So Bella nodded with a subtle grin. "Sure Perc," She agreed, "We'll get on that in the morning. You're right though, together we're able to take on the world." She smiled. "Now, are you going to attempt to make it to your bed or are you comfy where you are?" Bella nudged her cousin gently in the ribs with her elbow. "I have to get up at the crack of why-the-hell-am-i-awake for a Runes exam, so go to sleep. We can plan tomorrow, alright?" She murmured as she rolled over to lay on her side, facing Persephone. |

"Sure Perc, we'll get on that in the morning. You're right though, together we're able to take on the world." Not exactly the gung ho reaction Persephone was looking for, but in her drunken state, she would take what she could get. It was true, experience had shown that the cousins could indeed take on the world. Well at least a good portion of it... well maybe not a good portion, but they could definitely take on some overconfident, if not slightly mentally challenged, Gryffindor bints, that was for damned sure. Bella and Persephone were both smart and cunning, which was definitely not a requirement for getting into the Gryffindor house. Bravery was just another word for stupidity in Persephone's books. Even in her intoxicated haze, Persephone could visualize their assault. It wouldn't take much to rile their opponents, and the stirring of the unwashed masses would trigger a response from the girls of their own house, it would be a beautiful, chaotic war. A smug grin hijacked her features, and she made no attempt to hide it. It was rehearsal for when the Gryffindor girls took things too far, which they were bound to do. "Now, are you going to attempt to make it to your bed or are you comfy where you are?" Persephone felt the unmistakable urgings of Bella's elbow in her ribs. "I have to get up at the crack of why-the-hell-am-i-awake for a Runes exam, so go to sleep. We can plan tomorrow, alright?" "Tomorrow, it's a date!" She said, her wicked grin growing ever wider. She and Bella, wicked witches of the east and west. Not the best analogy, since a house fell on one of the two, but as long as they kept the Dorothy's and Glenda's of Gryffindor at bay, they'd be fine. Oh it was going to be a fun day. "Night, Iz." |
