how do you compile a java desktop app so that I could distribute it with only a single jar file... what I've been doing is distributing the dist folder... XD anyone who can help?
First you need to compile the java files. When the class files are created, open the command prompt, go to the directory where the class files are located then type this command (without the quotes) "jar cvf nameofjarfileyouwant.jar *.class"
the first parameter is the jar - this is the internal java command for compiling files into jar files
the second parameter is cvf
the third parameter is the filename that you want for the jar file that will be created
the fourth parameter is the class/classes that will be placed on the jar file - you can specify classses individualy and separate them using spaces

if it says 'jar' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. you must first set the environment variable.
You can do this by following these instructions: (Windows XP)
1.) My computer -> Properties[Right Click] -> Advanced -> Environment Variables
2.) Find the variable name "Path" and click Edit
3.) Concatenate this to the value 'C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_20\bin'
4.) (note that this is the location of the bin file on my computer, the directory may vary)
5.) Click "ok" until the system window is closed
6.) Open / Restart your Command Promt.

Congratulations, the environment variable is now set.

Happy Programming! God Bless!

I think its possible. idagdag mo lang xa kung icocompile mo na yung jar file.
Example: jar cvf nameofjarfileyouwant.jar name1.class name2.class name3.class config.dat

Tapos kung iaaccess mo ung config.dat I think, it's possible na itreat lang sila na parang nasa iisang folder, although hindi ko pa nattry. hehehe.

I hope this helped! Happy programming!

the manifest file is automatically generated so I think you don't need to include it.. hmmm??? are you customizing your manifest file?
