Despite coming into the fixture off back-to-back wins, Manly never looked to be in the game, missing 44 tackles in the five tries to one trouncing. Steven Bell looked to be over the line against his old club, but the video referee sent the decision back to Tony Archer who ruled the Queensland State of Origin centre had been held up. Full-back Billy Slater scored twice for the defending premiers with Greg Inglis crossing for his first try since returning from shoulder surgery. All eyes were on the match-up between Slater and incumbent Test full-back Brett Stewart, who could only manage six tackles and missed three as the home side ran away with the contest. Slater's performance, including setting up Anthony Quinn for his try, was not lost on Storm coach Craig Bellamy. "Thank God he's playing for us," he said at the post-match press conference. "Certainly his first half tonight when he scored those two tries... I don't know what else to say about him to be quite honest. "As I've said a thousand times, and it's certainly no disrespect to any other full-back in the competition, because there's such a good batch out there, we're just glad he's playing for us." Titans: 28 (M Peterson, A Cannings, N Friend, S Prince, J Graham tries; S Prince 4 conversions)Eels: 20 (N Hindmarsh, J Reddy, B Finch tries; L Burt 3 conversions, penalty goal) Storm: 26 (B Slater 2, G Inglis, A Quinn, R Hoffman tries; C Smith 2 conversions, penalty goal)Sea Eagles: 4 (M Bani try) |
