![]() Top of the leaderboard... the Titans recorded just their third ever away victory. The Gold Coast Titans defied their horrendous away record to down the Eels 28-20 in their round five NRL clash at Parramatta Stadium on Friday night. The Eels clawed their way back from an eight-point deficit at the break to be within two points of the visitors, but a try to Titans' interchange Josh Graham in the dying minutes sealed the home team's defeat. Meanwhile in Melbourne, the defending premiers thrashed Manly 26-4 in a rematch of the 2007 NRL grand final at Olympic Park. The Sea Eagles, who are yet to notch a win at the ground nicknamed The Graveyard, narrowly avoided a whitewash thanks to a Michael Bani try with six minutes remaining. In Parramatta, Titans skipper Scott Prince had a busy night with a try, four conversions and 14 kicks in play as the Gold Coast won only its third ever match from 14 on the road. Eels' defectors Matt Peterson and Aaron Cannings scored the first two four-pointers for the Titans, and Nathan Friend crossed for their third to establish a 16-8 lead at the break. Parramatta backs Joel Reddy and Brett Finch crossed in quick succession midway through the second half adding to Nathan Hindmarsh's first-half four-pointer. Luke Burt nailed both conversions to bring the home side within two points of the win, but Graham's try in the 76th minute put them out of contention. The Titans' fourth win from five matches sees John Cartwright's side leap to top spot on the NRL leaderboard, but could surrender that position throughout the weekend.<h2>'Graveyard' ambush</h2> |
