Newcastle Knights coach Brian Smith has defended his side after its second narrow NRL loss in succession. The Knights lost 26-20 to the Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland, following a golden point loss to Parramatta in round three. Smith says his players showed great character to fight back from 14-0 down. "I thought our boys were tremendous in that at half-time we were down 14-12, just by two, after the avalanche of possession that the opposition had," he said. But Smith acknowledged that discipline cost his side the win. "Any team that gives away a string of penalties finishes up in trouble."</ |

The warriors deserve the kudoes, they fought back after being humiliated last weekend by manly by getting half a ton posted against them. They showed character in putting that loss aside and coming back to win this weekend. |
