I feel that this goes almost without saying, yet who will (or would if you aren't 18 and a US citizen).

Well, times would have changed to have a female vice president, eh?

I say, who cares what the hell their race is, if they're a good choice for president, it shouldn't matter.

*waves* the English girl agrees with Jakob. The colour of a guy's skin shouldn't be as much of a big deal as his politics. At the end of the day, that's what makes a candidate the right choice...And Obama WAS the right choice. Well done, you Americans finally got something right for a change. (Just teasing y'all, please don't shoot me with yer grand-pop's shot gun XD)

Sheesh don't bite mah head off. I was only sayin. I don't give a flying hoot who's president. It doesn't matter to me. I'm just saying that this is a point in history where we can all sit down with our grandkid's grandkids, if some of us are that lucky, and say, "Yeah, I remember when Obama was president."

I was quite excited last night when I saw him become president. I agree with you rose, either way history was going to be made but honestly, I'm happy it was Obama who made it since I wanted him to win. Even though I would have been upset if he lost I was moved to the point of tears, I mean we are living during a HUGE breaking point in history, that's an amazing thing, not everyone can say that and yet we all can. Others will read about this, WE can say we lived and watched/made it happen! That's mind blowing for me

I disagree with America's decision to put a Muslim with Terrorist connections into office. I could care less the color of skin, he's only half black anyways v.v; People here are acting like ignorant retards celebrating as if they won something.

My problem is, will this guy screw us over... y'know.. take it easy on his first term to ensure a second term run down of America? I'm absolutely worried about our country right now. It's funny, bible says the Anti-Christ will be a man from the middle east ruling... Mayan year of the destruction of our world.. 2012 .. Just so happens to be re-election time...

Perhaps I'm just being paranoid, but... perhaps America is just that dumb.

Now, I hate Obama as much as the next guy, but I wouldn't call him a terrorist. As far as I know, every one of those accusations has been unfounded. He is also not a Muslim, he has said that on more than one occasion. I wouldn't trust anything the Bible predicts, but that's because I'm an atheist. I would trust the Mayans even less so.

I just now threw my vote up there.

Vexar, I personally think you're being too paranoid. >_> I believe everything the Bible says, as I'm a Christian. I think the Mayan thing is pushing it, and I don't believe Obama is a Muslim.

I voted for McCain, but I am very open to Obama being president. I'm not a closed minded voter that is going to freak out about the fact that I lost, or that the Republicans lost. I personally think Obama is all talk, just a good speech giver, but we'll see. I'm leaving myself completely open to a change in political thinking over the next 4 years.

And although skin color shouldn't matter, it does. Many people see this as one less thing separating black and white, even if Obama isn't totally black. I don't know that I'd go as far as to say it will cure racism, but I think his skin color certainly makes this very historic.

You're calling him a muslim?

Does that mean you have to ban yourself for violating the ass rule? :$
That's just a bunch of anti-Obama propoganda, as far as I'm concerned. And so what if he was? I'd rather have a muslim or an atheist in office than another ultra-white Christian. Religion has nothing to do with mindset. I am sick to death of that nonsense. It's those kind of people that caused Atheists to become the most hated demographic in your country. I, as an atheist, don't appreciate being ranked lower than country hicks or murderers. And how the hell would he get into office if he was a Muslim? Oh, he lied? I think the CIA would know, frankly.

And don't even try that 2012 stuff on me. Anyone with any form of common sense should be able to see how inherently dumb that is. Planet X colliding with the planet, maybe? 2012 is when the calender ends, not the world. Mayans just never thought that far ahead. Just so happens to be election time? It happens to be a lot of things, they're all coincidences.
Every time someone has said "the end is nigh!" it has never ended, I wish people would pick up on that. Manson believed in the apocalypse, that didn't end well, but there still wasn't one.

You are being paranoid, and more than a little immature.

Muslim?
His dad was a Muslim, yes, Vexar.
But Obama's dad has had NO impact on Obama's life since he was two years old.
Obama's dad left when he was two.
Obama was probably going through his "Why? Why? Why?" stage when his dad left.

And terrorist connections?
You really need to look into things before making a decision, Vexar, its people like you who vote for the wrong person for all of the wrong reasons.

But Zac, you should listen here.
My generation is the generation of Atheists.

At least, where I live, in Maine, at least half the students I know are Atheistic.
And as time passes, we will see more.
:)

A game called Actraiser raised a good point.
If all the evils of this world are cured, religion would cease to exist.
Because everyone was happy and people would have no reason to pray, because they know it will turn out o.k.
As we go through time, we find that through science we can stop diseases, etc. etc.
There are more of us every day.

Anyhow, all I'm saying is that there should ALWAYS be a separation of church and state.
Therefore, politicians should leave their religions at the door, because right now, we're dealing with the hard facts. The next president has a huge shit pile to clean up, and everyone has their own way of using a mop.... or q-tip, in McCain's case.

I personally couldn't disagree more with his policies, yet I wouldn't go as far as to say he is a terrorist. I disagree with him politically, and I personally wouldn't stoop to the level of slander against his character. I may disagree with him, yet I do think he is doing what he thinks is best, he is definitely not malicious about it.

I think 'Earth changing it's mind about atheists' is asking quite a lot. A little too much, if you ask me. :-/
I can hope there are more atheists coming, lord knows an intelligent planet would be a nice thing, but I wouldn't bet money on it, and I sure as hell wouldn't pray for it. :D

Good point; and I know all about Actraiser, and the wet puddle of effluvia that was the sequel, Soulblazer. I can sum all that text what you just said to one word that theists despise: Crutch.
As long as Captain happy-cloud-man looks down on us, we'll be fine.

Yes, a very large pile. I can see why he was voted in, it seemed that Americans as a nation hated the idea of a black guy in power, but maybe they acknowledged the fact that McCain would be simply more of the same, and they had had enough of that? It's interesting to think about what influenced so many people to vote for him, millions more than voted for the white guy.

Although, Palin? I think that may have killed McCain more than a little. I can not say one positive word about that disturbed little thing.

I feel that religion should influence politics, yet not become part of it. We write laws to hold up morality, and religion is one of the major moral codes. It definitely should influence it, yet not define it. God said so is not a reason! Some of my republicans disagree with me. I side with the republicans because I believe in their views, I am personally an atheist.

Colton, I actually sort of agree with you for once.

There are so many things I could offer a rebuttal about in this thread, but honestly, I'm tired of arguing politics. So tired of it.

Zac, I think you need to re-evaluate what you say about Christians. You say you are tired of them putting you at the bottom of the barrel, but you are doing the exact same when you talk about them. You make them all seem like trash that are living on a false hope of a "man in the clouds." I do my best to live by example and try to show that not all Christians are assholes that treat everyone like shit. Maybe you should try and do the same, because in insulting Christians the way you are and talking about religion the way you do, you are giving them a reason to talk like that about you, just as many of them give you reasons to talk about them. Act mature and you give no reason for insult.

It's pleasant talk, and generally should be incorporated by all good people, but it is the existence of atheism that is insulting to churchgoers, it has nothing to do with how nice I am about it. I could be a completely pleasant, politically correct atheist, I could be completely respecting of other people's views or religions, but I would still have rotten tomatoes thrown at me in Alabama. It's intolerance fueled hatred, not responsive hatred.

Chris Hedges, a philosopher who graduated from Harvard Divinity School, wrote a book about this called American Fascists. It made the point that the bible is so encompassing, and has so many different stories that it can both give reason to be a good person, as well as justify all the evil and bigotry in the world. It is all determined by the person. The religion itself is not the problem, it is the few assholes that make the community look bad. There are those, like shorie, who are respectful, as well as those assholes which will hate you immediately.

I realize some Christians feel insulted that atheists exist, but it is the same for atheists, as you have shown yourself.

It has EVERYTHING to do with how "nice" you are about it. EVERYONE has been persecuted at some point in history, whether it had to do with religion or race or socioeconomic class. Just because people throw rotten tomatoes at you does not mean that you have the right to return them. It's people that stand above stupid crap like this that make the best example and make a difference. But if you want to be like everyone else, then by all means, keep mud-slinging, but I encourage you to try and be the better person, no matter what you believe.
