Jadeling Hawkins

Hello everyone!

Well, I promised to get active on this site, and may my eyes fall from my head if I phail to do so.

Anyway, for a role playing site we have a tragic lack of active games. I've had an idea for one in my head for a while now, but decided to try and get it going here rather than RPG just because I don't feel like turning down a bunch of one liner players...again...and I would like to see Vexar's beautiful site fully functional...and active.

/soap box

The idea of this game (please note that it is inspired by a European comic, which was at one point made into a television show called 'Jeremiah,' and which was actually quite good despite the horrible flashbacks of 90210) follows thusly:

Fifteen years ago, a terrible plague now known simply as 'The Big Death' swept across the world. For some reason that scientists could never explain, the disease attacked only the hormones of adults, leaving those still 'in the age of innocence' (generally assumed to be those fifteen years and younger) unscathed. Mass hysteria ensued, and many who did not die immediately from the sickness were killed by mobs and the like. When it was all over, the world was void of adults, and full of children who, lacking the knowledge to work such things, soon lost running water, electricity, indoor heating, and all of the other modern day conveniences. Some died of hunger or simple illness and injury, not knowing how to fend for themselves. Some made it from day to day by the skin of their teeth.

Now, only the grown-up children are left. There is no government, so there are no laws and no real currency. Some merely roam, seeking shelter, food, and water wherever they can find it among the ruins of the former modern day. Some managed to maintain the idea of nuclear families, others have reverted to a simpler way of life. But there are rumors of even others who are attempting to rebuild.

-----

So let me know what you think. There are a few different ways we can go about this, meaning there are a few final goals we might be aiming for. Are we a group trying to rebuild? Or just a bunch of people trying to stay alive?

As far as characters go, the only real limitations are your age, obviously. You cannot play someone more than around thirty years old, thirty-five, tops. You may play a child born into this ill-formed world, or one who survived the end of the last one. What I would like for character profiles:

Name: Dacks "Gear" Ronval

Age: 25

Gender: Male

Appearance: Tall and thin, an abnormal figure for a man of his age. He has messy mid-length brown hair, and matching colored eyes. He finds what clothing he can at any given time. He tends to strap himself in a pair of old, buckle down, combat boots; with leather gear to match.

Equipment: Typically an assortment of metal working and engineering tools, with his various inventions.

Basic History: He had been raised into loss, an orphan nearly his entire life. His parents had died before the spread of The Big Death. As he traveled from orphanage to orphanage, he always came back to one thing, mechanics. He was never allowed to mess with electrics, nor any other machinery for that matter. So, from a young age, he was forced to make his own energy. He stumbled across the magic of steam energy. Since then, he has gone by the name of gear. Before the spread, he was known for his crazy toys and tools. Now, he is known for wandering with larger variations of tools. His knowledge of steam has granted him power over those left, being able to create and build what others can't. His dwelling, although hidden, has nearly all of the necessities of the old modern day houses.

(Thanks for the help Jade <3)
Also, I think we should take it goal by goal; our first should be establishing order of some sort.

Of course <3

Here's my character:

Name: Rachel Lee
Age: 26
Gender: Female
Appearance: Rachel is short, standing just a bit over five foot. She is also about as thin as anyone else who has lived off of scraps for her entire adult life (which is just about everyone) and is usually speckled with dirt and a thin coating over whatever else clings to her on an average day of scrounging around. She sports short blond hair and serious gray eyes.
Equipment: A very nice swiss army knife, given to her before the Big Death by a cousin in th army. Also a heavily used set of flints, a canteen and a handful of other knicknacks she had discovered in the ruins of the old world.
Basic History: Rachel one of five daughters in a military family. Three of her sisters died of the disease, being beyond the age of innocence when it struck. After the adults were gone, Rachel tried for a while to take care of her two younger sisters, but being barely more than a child herself at the time she could only do so much. She rarely speaks about what became of the girls, but they are no longer with her. Apparently out of guilt for her inability to care for her siblings, Rachel has taken a special interest in looking after young survivors whenever possible.

Name: Lloyd Cullen
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Appearance:Posted Image
Lloyd is an average sized man, not too muscular, but not too skinny. He stands at about 5'11. Strangely, his hair is a light blue color, reaching down, and past his cobalt blue eyes. Over his eyes is a nice pair of glasses he had since he was 15. His clothing is a simple white lab coat over a white dress shirt and tie, as well as a pair of brown khakis and brown loafers. A medical bag with a red cross on it hangs from his side.
Equipment: Medical kit, survival knife, several text books/manuals on various subjects.
Basic History: Unlike others his age, Llyod matured to an adult state of mind at 10. Rather than take the lazy man's way out, he spent as much of his free time in search of knowledge, and bettering his situation, reading training and instructional manuals, as well as text books. Over the years, he self taught himself anything he could from the pages of his collection, he had to for the sake of survival.

Name: Alexander "Lex" Severous

Age: 32

Gender: Male

Appearance: A man who looks about 8 years older than he was, due to his partial infliction of the disease. He has black hair, turning Grey. He has dark gray eyes, and a pair of glasses that he has managed to keep clean and unscathed over the years. He wears a gray suit, which he keeps clean by frequently washing it, as well as picking up a new one from the various abandoned stores he passes. He is not muscular or athletic, he has to walk with a cane because of his partial infection.

Equipment: Besides his fairly standard, black, cane, Lex caries around a leatherman knife, which was given to him by his dad when he was killed by the disease. He caries a journal and a pen around in a briefcase. In his left jacket pocket he carries around his father's old 22 cal pistol, which holds 12 rounds, all of them left. He has one other position to his name, a copy of the book "Anthem' by Ayn Rand, which he swears to not let be the future of this world.

Basic History: A young objectivist, Lex lived a normal life until the Big Death. He had two loving parents and attended a public high school, where he took all advanced classes. He was 17 when his parents were killed off with the disease, yet because he was only partly through puberty, his only effect is the appliance of looking older than he is. He was grief-stricken when his parents died, and found his life through reading many books, which is how he became an objectivist. He has read all the work or authors like Ayn Rand, George Orwell, and Allen Moore. He is very intelligent, and due to his older than average age he has a wealth of knowledge that most people don't.

I feel that it would be interesting to try rebuild. Due to the strong will of my character's philosophy i feel that a rebuilding situation could create many challenges which would be interesting to try to overcome.

I agree. This RP could be very interesting. Just imagine all of the conflicts as our characters try and rebuild society, everyone's differing opinions on what it should be.

Jade, darling. You are no longer the only estrogen-bearing being in this RP. I just now took the time to finally read it, and I'm excited to RP this rawkin' storyline, as well as participate with so many rawkin' people.

Name:Olivine "Oli" Anderson

Age:10

Gender:Female

Appearance:Oli stands at only 4'5" flat footed. Her chestnut brown hair falls in loose waves down to the middle of her back, the color a perfect rendition of the chocolate brown that fills her large eyes. What used to be a baby pink dress covers the girl's frail frame, now stained, tattered and worn with lack of proper care. Her skin is dark, nationality unknown. It could be a result of spending hours in the sun daily due to her lack of a home, or it could be natural, the sun merely contributing.

Equipment: This young figure carries a green backpack on her back at all times, stuffing any scraps of food she can find into it. At the bottom of the pack is a thin, faded strip of cloth, black with pink polka-dots. The small strip is barely big enough to cover up Oli's body.

Basic History: Now a nomad traveling on her own, Oli has never known her parents. An old woman on the street found her in a dumpster and took care of her until she was old enough to walk and talk, plus a few years. She taught Olivine how to beg and where to look for food and water. When Oli was 8, the old hag passed away, the only mother she had ever known. The young girl took the only possession the woman had, her backpack, and continued the lack of legacy that she had left behind.

I am very, very sorry, everyone! I got extremely busy again, along with computer troubles...bleh! But mostly, I was put away from this game by my involvement in NaNoWriMo (national novel writing month) in which, yes, I am attempting to write a 50,000 word novel in a month. This month. November 2008.

I wasn't sure I could handle making my daily quota while still being active in RPing...but now, I'm pretty sure I can manage it. Is anyone still interested in this game at all? If so, please let me know. Again, I apologize profusely for my sudden disappearing act.

I'm looking forward to this RP greatly.

I understand your pain, I joined NaNoWriMo for the first time this month. I fail, I have like 500 words total. I'm already throwing in the towel. Good thing you're doing well though.

Have you been having trouble with the NaNoWriMo site? It won't work for me.

Name: Hikari Yamato
Age: 29, soon to be 30
Gender: Female
Appearance: Standing at 5'3", she is shorter than most of the people that she knows. Her well-developed body and curves are complimented by her long waist-length black hair, which frame a small face with big almond-shaped eyes.
Equipment: Plastic water bottle, always filled with water, although not always clean. She also carries with her a flute, the only thing that she has left of her previous life before the Sickness. She also has several knives, and have self-taught herself to throw them with quite a startling accuracy.

Around her neck, she carries a small gold cross. Also on the necklace is a ring, tarnished but durable. The cross was from her parents, the ring from her best friend, who died in one of the riots, trampled to death by the very adults that he had looked up to.

Basic History: Hikari has lived in the same place ever since she was born, just like both her parents, despite being Japanese. She was the 5th generation to be born in the same country, away from Japan. When the Sickness struck, she was amongst the eldest in the population that survived the epidemic as it swept the world. She is well known around the place as "Kari the judge", for all of the older people didn't seem to care much for the younger ones like her.

Recently, she began to think that it's probably time to rebuild what they had lost over 15 years ago - provided that they have the man-power and the smarts to pull it off. If not, then they are probably doomed to live life on earth as before.

--------------------------------

There. I hope that this will be good enough. If there's anything that's contradicting, please don't hesitate to correct me. It's 2:40 in the morning right now, so my mind isn't working at its full potential... :$

Name: Tessandra
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Appearance: about five foot five, she is toned but not slim. Her hair is matted into brown dreadlocks with green dyed wool, strange beads and bits and pieces tied in. Her clothes are ill-fitting but tough hiking trousers, layers of jumpers and a battered flight jacket that used to be her dads. She wears a decent pair of walking boots that she's been waiting to grow into since she was fourteen. She has an army surplus rucksack and a Swiss army knife her dad gave her. Luckily for Tess her family was either in the army or avid campers, so she's learn just enough knowledge to keep herself alive.
Equipment: Large rucksack, Swiss army knife, water bottle and billy cans, beads and sewing kit, sleeping bag, tent
Basic History: When the virus struck her dad was away with the RAF and so she had no chance to say goodbye. Her mother, terribly ill, made sure the kids knew as much as possible about how to survive and told them to pack as much as they could and move into the country; houses like theirs would be prime targets for desperate youths. Her little sister Ivy is now five. They lived in an old barn for a few years, but have decided to return back to the city to see what has become of it.
Personality: Strong and compassionate, her heart's in the right place but she can still be immature and impatient with people, and her confidence can turn into pride and stubbornness. She committed to nomad lifestyle with a kind of grim satisfaction; all her life she did this for fun, and it's in her blood. But if only her parents were still alive...

Equipment: Nathanial carries the left-overs of his fathers work. A mining pick, some painters tape, and a brush.

Basic History: A man with morals. Having grown up under the watchful eye of his father, Nathanial learned the basic principles of life and even learned how to discover it. His father was an Archeologist that traveled miles on end just to find another dig. He never went far without specific tools in hand.

When the plague struck the world and took his father, Nathanial vowed to continue his research. Perhaps even then there is a clue as to where this sickness came from that was tied to some past event. All in all, Nathanial has made it his sworn life's work to find some information or clue as to the past and use it to plan for a new future.
