This is a small bit of the diary from a character in oblivion I made. If you want to see the whole thing go here: Than Marduk's Black Book. I hope you enjoy and please feel free to critique me on my writing or anything else you feel I need to work on. Day 1 Yes my name is Than it is short for another name though my father would not tell me what. All he told me, all he ever told me about my name was that it stood for death and that is what I would bring to my enemies. I am young but my father has already shipped me off by ship to this strange land of Cyrodiil which is where I am writing from now. When I got off the ship I found 300 gold and a few other supplies that my father had left me, he also marked all of the areas in this land of Cryodiil on my map. I fought a plethora of creatures on my way towards some sewers that I had had a dream about while on the ship. On the way there I fought a few wolves, a mudcrab and an imp all of whose corpses I looted for all I could take. Upon entering the sewers I found a dead rat carcass with an amulet in it. It was the amulet of kings and it spun a tale through my head, A fight with men in red armor against a king, presumably the king of this land and his knights. I dropped the amulet and it slammed to the floor with sounds that made me think it would shatter into a million pieces. I reached down and picked it up, it was whole so I put it into my bag and continued out of the sewers. Across from the sewers was a ruin of sorts there weren't any of these types of things back in my homeland. This place seems to be inhabited by bandits as I killed a few outside, they put up little of a fight and I killed them quickly. I found a book by their camp called "Blades of Cyrodiil" and a sword by a bedroll called the witches' blade. I read the book and may have to check out some of these places sometime. But now I will rest on the bedroll of a fallen bandit and let the night fall, for I am an assassin and work best in the night. Night 1 The last entry was LIES all lies my damned father possessed me to write such thing never would I be so formal. The scum that is my father sent me here that much is true and all of what I've done here so far is true but that pig would never leave me gold or any supplies it was all there for me left by forces unseen and unnamed. His powers seemed to have worn off and now I have free will so tonight I will explore all that I can of this land and write another entry towards morning. I write this book for all to know that I am the greatest assassin who ever lived and will be known as such throughout the land of Cyrodiil. I will now enter the ruins that these bandits are camped outside and will write again when I am out. ---- I will keep a log of all my killings in this book all of the attacks that I land that result in assassinations will also be recorded along with all of the kills I receive by any other means. It is written in a manner that shows total kills first and then the number of those kills that were assassinations. Bandit: 9 Assassinations: 6 Zombies: 2 Assassinations: 0 Skeleton: 11 Assassinations: 8 Necromancers: 1 Assassinations: 0 A momentous day in killing indeed hahah! The bandits fell easily even the ringleader and ones that I had to fight though I did suffer an injury from one fight. As I delved deeper I found a bandit corpse and zombies and skeletons. The zombies were difficult to kill and I was unable to assassinate any of then but the skeletons were much easier and shattered into pieces at my feet in only a few blows each unless I assassinated them of course. At the end of the ruins I found a strange statue It seemed to posses magical powers the likes of which I have never seen I will have to have a native of this land tell me what it is, provided I don't kill the fool first. Still after I found a necromancer, what a fool living in a ruin with skeletons and zombies! His name was Jalbert as I found out in an undelivered letter to another man presumably another necromancer. I found many potions throughout the ruins most seem useless but they could likely fetch a few coin from a shop. I also found a modest amount of blueish green statues which seem useless as well I don't know what they could possibly do I may throw them out as they are simply taking up space. I am now out of the ruins sleeping in the same bedroll as yesterday, its bright out and I need to wait until night to move about freely. I will describe myself in detail tonight when I awake for I want the world to know of my glorious image. They will all fear me!!! Muahaha! Night 2 My name as you all must know by now is Than Marduk, the greatest assassin that Cyrodiil, No, the World has ever known. I am a dark elf from a land of volcanoes and ash named Searagorn. My skin is black with red patches around my cheeks and lips. I wear only the darkest of clothes, preferably light ones that allow me to move easily and sneak around unseen. My hair is cut short and is black as to blend into the dark even while without clothing if the situation calls for it. My skills involve the blade, shield, alchemy and a few select magiks. I neglected to learn the bow or how to pick locks these things are unessential as far as I am concerned. I believe this gives an accurate description of myself. I will now be off I do not know where to though maybe an inn, should be easy killing. --- Innocents: 3 Assassinations: 3 Trolls: 8 Assassinations: 1 Bandits: 2 Assassinations: 0 Tonight was interesting, as I left my camp where I had killed the bandits on my first day here I found a home quite off the beaten path I broke in but there was not a soul to be found, quite disappointing really, so I stole everything that could be of value to the owner of the home and went on my way. While walking I found a place named Harlun's watch which intrigued me so. I went into the homes which were foolishly unlocked and killed all the people inside each one. They bled glorious pools of red shining blood all over their own beds. That has been the best experience in all of my short time here in Cyrodiil, it was so invigorating. I also killed many woodland creatures but they are of no importance to me so I will not write about them. As I slept I was visited by a man who had talk of a "Dark Brotherhood" of sorts it sounds like something we had back in my homeland but my memories are still fuzzy. I will need to kill a man named Rufio to join though but that shouldn't be a problem for me. As the man walked away I pulled out my sword and debated whether or not kill him but as soon as I had unsheathed he raised his hand and became invisible. I decide it would be best to let him go though I don't know how I would have found him anyway. It seems to me that the memories of my homeland are not quite all there, really they haven't been since I got to this land which is why I said still. It is likely my father's doing but I am regaining them ever so slowly and someday I will be able to recount them accurately for this whole world to read. For now the only memory I can recount is the one of my father shipping me off on the boat to this land. He said to me as I drifted off to see "Goodbye you Rat, I hope you show the whole world of Cyrodiil how Great you truly are, after all you're already better than everyone here....Or so you say." That was the last thing I heard from my father but immediately after saying that he shot a spell right at me. Presumably that is the spell that is draining my memories and the one that forced me to write what I did on the first day. It is all speculation right now but someday I will know and so will the world of Cyrodiil. My weapons and armor are wearing and I need to have them repaired. I am also just about to fall to my knees under the weight of my bag, I need to get to a town soon. There was one by the Watch I should probably go there tomorrow, and who knows there may even be someone for me to kill, in fact I'm sure there will be. But for tonight I sleep on the beds of the fallen bandits and wait for tomorrow morning, a full days worth of resting. Night 3 I could not sleep so I decided it best to do something useful with my time and I picked up my mortar and pestle and practiced alchemy using the leftover food from my meals and the ingredients I managed to scavenge off the monsters I have killed. I must of made 40 potions all of which are useless to me, I need to find out how to make more poisons. I did mange to make a few but they just reduced my enemies fatigue which is of no use to me. I will sell all the potions tomorrow when I go to the city. Day 4 Today I went to the city of Cheydinhal and sold all the useless items that were weighing me down. I collected over 1000 gold from it all and with that I repaired my items that needed it. I could find nothing of use there and I left quickly. I did notice a few guilds, the mages and the fighters guild. I imagine the people who are in those guilds are quite strong maybe someday I will take it upon myself to massacre one of them, that would be fun indeed. Before leaving I also checked out the temple of the nine divines. The people here actually worship the gods hah what fools gods are meant to be toyed with. You make them think they're in control then you destroy everything that has made them holy and sacred. That is one of the things I remember from my homeland but it is a fuzzy memory as well. Upon leaving the city I came across a place unmarked on my map it was called the Knights of the Thorn Lodge and it was covered in thick foliage. I decided to go inside and was confronted by a man by the name of Jhared who said that he (or I, I could make little sense of his words) was the newest member of the Knights. I walked upstairs and he followed, there would be no way to do this stealthily. I took out my blade and jabbed it into him. His armor was thick but I saw blood begin to run down his side and I let out a ferocious laugh. The man then proceeded to defend himself and struck at me. I move from side to side dodging many of his strikes while landing a few of my own. Eventually I was hit in the leg and couldn't move as nimbly so I resorted to using my shield. The battle continued until I got one firm blow on his neck after which he let out a roar, a cry of defeat. I watched as the blood ran down his body as he dropped to the ground. I took him outside and covered him with the bushes around the Lodge then cleaned up the blood inside. Now I wait until night when I shall enter again with hopes of killing more of the scum that is The Knights of the Thorn. Night 4 Knights: 1 Assassinations: 0 Innocents: 1 Assassinations: 1 Goblins: 18 Assassinations: 10 Bandits: 2 Assassinations: 0 It is midnight and there isn't a soul here its quite disappointing really I was hoping to kill some more of them. Oh well I suppose I will loot this house for whatever things I can find I will write more in the morning. ---- I went to the nearest home that was marked on my map after looting the lodge for all it was worth, which wasn't much. I saw a landmark before I got there though it was some sort of waterfall and was not marked on my map already. Near the waterfall I found a giant imp. It was colossal and a sight to behold before it began shooting thunderbolts at me. I fought with all my might and after a long fight it went down. It had more stamina than regular imps and it hurt a lot more when it hit me. I drank a potion of healing that I hadn't sold and felt quite rejuvenated. My face was bloodied from the fight and that made me want to howl into the night with laughter, which I did. I began my journey towards Harm's folly after that where I found a man asleep in his bed whom I promptly killed, all it took was one shot and he was gone for good. hah! I looted his house and proceeded to a nearby mine. Outside were a few goblins I killed them without getting my hands dirty at all just a few fire bolts was all it took to kill each. Inside was a different story all together. There were so many goblins inside this mine that often times I couldn't sneak up on one of them without having a different one of the bastards see me and blow my cover. Nevertheless I killed all of them in the mine and at the very deepest part of the mine a goblin Netherboss seemingly awaited my arrival. Such a stereotypical place for a boss type thing to be at the very end of a cave but it didn't matter I killed him with a barrage of freezing spells. The blood of all the goblins stained my hands and blade as I hurried out of the mine laughing all the way. As I reached the exit of the mine I saw that it was bright out. had I really spent all night in there? it didn't feel like it but despite what it felt like I knew I needed to get to somewhere I could rest. On my map I found the nearest camp and went there. It was a short while before I found the camp and bandits attacked me of course without the night to shield me I couldn't sneak up upon them and they got the first strikes. After a somewhat difficult battle I finished off the bandits I took their bed. I now must rest until night when I can look around for a place to kill more scum of this land. |
