James finished with his work and moved to the window, peering out it. 'Ruth should be home by now. Where is that tiger?' he thought to himself. Chewing on his bottom lip some, he moved away from the window, grabbed his car keys from the hanger in the kitchen, and went for the garage. Upon touching the button to open the garage door, James moved toward the black Jeep and climbed in.

Slam went the driver side door and the gentle rumble of a car engine started from the Jeep. Backing out of the garage, James moved some as he worried about Ruth. He drove down the long driveway, passing the beautiful golds, greens, yellows, and reds of the changing leaves.

Ruth continued to walk down the main street sidewalk, carrying the bags of food she had recently bought. Her sky blue eyes scanning the area around her as the morning crowd bustled about her. Each person carrying the scent of a human and the faint whiff of their breakfast lingered in the air behind them. The wind blew again, this time carrying a slightly musty and earthy smell, as well as the familiar scent of the forest.

Hesitating at the new scents in the air, Ruth tilted her head to the side, before she fished out her cellphone. Quickly dialing James, she scanned the crowd for new faces.

----

Feeling his phone go off, James pulled it out of his pocket. Letting his eyes drift away from the road and to the caller id, he let out a relieved sigh when it read Ruth. "Hey," he answered. His voice painted with a gentle accent and it was rough like the rumble of thunder during a storm.

----

"James, you in town?" Ruth asked as she stopped at her car. Placing the bags on the roof of her car, she unlocked the doors.

----

James looked around as he drove, calculating the distance from where he was to town. "Not yet. Why?"

-----

"Hmmm. I'm at the parking lot by the bookstore. You'll smell it when you come in," she said and hung up the phone. Ruth's eyes watched the crowd as they marched by the lot some and then she concentrated on putting the groceries away in her backseat.
