Hello, I know that some of you are interested in videogames, so this is the review of F.E.A.R. 2 I submitted to the Escapist Forms. Enjoy FEAR 2, Project Origin Review. + State of Horror Address I will not lie, I have not been a long time fan of the horror game genre. In fact, I have never really been a fan of horror in general. Over the last few years, I have started in the horror videogame genre. F.E.A.R. game was easily one of my favorite games of all time, easily on the top ten. F.E.A.R 2 has not let me down. F.E.A.R.2 perfectly mixes pacing with gore and action. Often games do not make such a balance between these two concepts. The atmosphere is dark and granny, and every door makes you weary of what you will see on the other side. I felt the same feeling in the original F.E.A.R ., yet F.E.A.R .2’s varied environments add to the suspense. The action is as extreme as ever, falling between surreal combat thriller and syco drama. The best part however are the creatures form Alma’s mind. You know that they are not real, yet you need to fight them anyway. The Condemned series is one of my favorites of all time, and I feel that Monolith continued it’s amassing horror lineup with this release. Poll: I feel that there have been only four major horror year to date, Dead Space, F.E.A.R.2, Condemned 2, and Silent Hill Origins. I feel that, besides the last, all have been great games and succeeded beyond my dreams. ¾ is a great proportion for great games. I ask you, noble gamers of the escapist, which do you think was the best one and how do you feel that it effects the industry. I feel the best Horror relies of this year was Dead Space . It was a massive improvement over the classical, well trodden genre. I felt the story was intriguing and pulled me into the game further and further until 12 hours were gone, and the game was over. I still refuse to play the last level, because I hear it is a cliffhanger. I will play it about a month before Dead Space comes out, as I did with F.E.A.R. one. This also provides evidence that EA is not entirely S(*T. Dead Space and there acquisition of Bioware (my personal favorite second favorite developer) provide hope that the corporate monster that is EA will not swallow the industry hole and crap out movie games and sports games (hint, they just improve graphics). |
