Bernie Mac Dies at 50

9 August 2008 8:08 AM, PDT

Latest: Comedian Bernie Mac has died after losing his battle with pneumonia.

The 50-year-old passed away on Saturday morning at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.

News of the actor's illness emerged last week, but his publicist Danica Smith released a number of statements earlier this week (begs04Aug08) playing down reports of Mac's deteriorating health.

On Thursday, Smith said Mac was "in a stable condition" and was "responding well to treatment". She even went as far to predict he will be released from hospital within a matter of weeks.

But the star died on Saturday after experiencing complications from the condition, reports TMZ.com.

His representative says, "Actor/ comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital. No other details are available at this time. We ask that his family's privacy continues to be respected."

Wasn't really a fan of his. After his TV show his material seemed to take a plunge, but ten years back he was one funny motherfucker. He was also pretty funny in the Ocean's flicks.

RIP.

Im not a fan of Bernie Mac, but certainly i did not hate him at all. It is sad to see him go, he had everything going for him and was starting to get more recognition for his TV shows. It is a sad day to see someone like this pass.

R.I.P Bernie Mac.

Busy weekend noting Isaac Hayes also passed away. No doubt there will be many fans saddened by the passing of both men.

My only memories of Bernie Mac beyond several movie cameos is back before I ever had a job. I was out of school for maybe a year and pretty much went to sleep at 12 noon and woke up at 9PM, anyway, The Bernie Mac show would always air on TV at 7-9am and it became a part of daily routine to watch morning sitcoms(Cheers, Bernie Mac, Everybody Loves Raymond and King of Queens). The Bernie Mac show was a whole lot better than the Everybody Loves Raymond back-to-back episodes and for that, I am grateful :)

RIP Mac.

I was shocked and pretty sad to hear about this guy going. Bernie Mac was only 50. 50 years old. Thats way to young.

The guy was ignored for almost 15 years before he finally hit it big and he always had a smile on. Every picture, every movie, every interview... Every time I saw him, he had a big smile.

He's smiling in heaven now, I suppose. RIP.

lol, I've always liked that type of phrase. I'm paraphrasing a comedian now, but does anyone really think whatever a person did on Earth get echoed in heaven?

I mean, that's like saying; ah Ray Charles, he's in heaven now playing the piano. Elvis Presley is in heaven now seducing women with his lyrics and dancing, popping mad pills, and eating a Fools Gold Loaf sandwich. Or John Wayne Gacy, he's in heaven now raping young boys and hacking their bodies into pieces, doing what he loved.

lol.
