Just a man with a saw.

It's silly to think that Home could be some sort of miraculous Xbox Live killer. That's not what it was designed to do, and that's not what it's going to accomplish. Xbox Live is a fantastic service and the other consoles won't beat it at that factor, but some people dislike having to pay a fee for it. The Playstation Network is free, but at the cost of stability online. I'm trying to say that each company does their business a certain way, and appeals to a certain kind of person. Really all they are trying to do is reach the most amount of people that they possibly can, Microsoft is doing the same thing, and Nintendo managed to do so early one when Wii had it's hype and promised something new for those young and old. 3-Dimensional online communities are something that many people are drawn to, as made apparent by the growing popularity of Massive Multiplayer Online Games. Some people absolutely adore personalization, something to set them apart from the rest of the crowd. Something that a Name and a Picture can't provide, but perhaps an avatar can. Home is trying to fill a niche that has yet to be filled on the consoles. Certainly it won't appeal to everyone, but then again, what will? Each console has their respective ideas on how get the attention of whatever section of the market they have yet to get a grasp of. These ideas that seem out of place are just them trying to broaden their horizons and provide a service that has yet to been provided. Not everyone can afford to buy all three consoles to get the full experience so they are trying to give the most to their customers since that's where the money is at. Any and all system fanboyism disappoints me to no end. Every system has it's ups and downs. I love the Xbox 360, but sometimes I want something that isn't a shooter or sports game. I love my PS3, but sometimes I want a good first party game. I love my Wii, but sometimes I don't want Mario shoved down my throat. If one hasn't personally had a hands on experience with something, treating it as godly or an utter failure is pointless. Like I've said before, I've seen far too little of Home to say what it will accomplish. Anything said of it at this point isn't one's thought on the game, but more of their thought of the genre itself. |

I can totally see where you're coming from and agree with a lot of the points made, I guess my disappointment isn't even based on what Home is but just the fact that I don't like where the industry is going in general with these sorts of "innovations". The Nintendo Wii is a joke amongst gamers. It has released it's big three (Metroid, Mario, Zelda) and now they're just shoveling any shit(Carnival games, Wii Sports Resort) out there that without the motion controller wouldn't get greenlit on the PSP, and yet this is a "current-gen" console. But hey, my opinions on the Wii don't matter because they are friggin rich. They're laughing all the way to the bank and that's good for them. They have their market well and truly cornered and they're going nowhere. What is bugging me is that Microsoft and Sony(ESPECIALLY Microsoft I should say) are dying to get those NEW gamers that the Wii attracted and so they're trying to offer these cutesy avatars even though it pretty much goes against what the core X360 gamer wants. Basically it upsets me that a year ago, I was happy to own my Xbox360 because it offered a different experience altogether, and even though I personally have no interest in the PS3 I appreciated they had their own experience and the 3 consoles felt very different. Now Microsoft is trying to get Nintys audience and it seems the PS3 is trying to get the casual PC market with Home/MMO's and it's just like, to me, it's getting harder to call the consoles different, by next year they'll all offer avatars and If you beleive the rumours will all offer motion-controlled controllers. That's why I'm against Home. That and...it's dumb looking
