Quinton Jackson was pulled over this afternoon and taken to police headquarters after a car accident near Newport Beach, CA. He's been charged with felony hit and run, reckless driving and felony evading arrest.

According to the Costa Mesa police, an officer observed him driving with a flat tire and talking on his cell phone and attempted to pull him over. He ignored the officer and continued driving with the officer in pursuit. Police had received a report of a vehicle with his photo on it involved in a collision on the 55 Freeway in Costa Mesa, that struck other vehicles and fled the scene, according to Lt. Paul Dondero.

The chase continued with the vehicle weaving in and out of traffic, including at one point driving on the wrong side of the road and even on a sidewalk, scaring pedestrians.

The officer saw the vehicle in a second collision while driving toward Newport Beach. Nobody was believed to have been injured in the collisions.

The car continued to Newport Beach where the tire blew out and came off the rim and he was arrested with a gun pulled on him and taken into the Orange County jail, where he is being held on $25,000 bail.

UFC president Dana White flew to Orange County upon getting the word of Jackson's arrest and was driving to the county jail, believed to be to post bond.

Yeah, I read this on ESPN news this morning. Hopefully the pickup he was driving wasn't the UFC & Rampage branded monster truck. It's bad enough he's one of MMA's biggest stars and the sport is still trying to grasp onto the mainstream without being considered too controversial or barbaric, and actually be considered a legit sport.

Is this said truck you are referring to? If so nothing like being inconspicuous...

You have no idea about inconspicuous. I've wanted a large econoline van with my face and autograph plaster to the side of it since I was 15. Mostly for me to just drive around and have people think I'm some big deal, but really it just's just funny because I see all the wannabe rappers with vans like that.

I'm sure he was on the phone with Dana trying to figure out what to do when the police first tried to pull him over.. It's a sad situation.. I'm guessing no drugs or alchohol were involved or that would have already came out.

I'm guessing he's feeling like a hypocrite after what he had to say on national TV syndication about the Jesse Taylor incident.

Quinton Jackson was detained by police a second time yesterday and brought to an Irvine hospital for a mental health observation.

According to Lt. Rick Handfield of the Irvine, CA, police department, an officer was pulled over while driving past Jackson's house in the city, and a friend of Jackson's asked for help. He told the officer he was worried about the fighter's behavior.

The officer made contact with Jackson, evaluated him, and asked him to come to the hospital for observation. Jackson was completely cooperative with the officer at all times.

Due to HIPPA laws, the department is not allowed to release any information about what the evaluation entailed or discovered.

Yahoo! Sports sat down with UFC president Dana White last weekend for an update on Rampage Jackson's condition. There's still much that is unknown and doctors are far from an official diagnosis. White told Yahoo! Sports that Jackson was initially going to stay in care for 72 hours but that has now been extended:

"I think it's going to be a while before we get him back. I'm talking as a friend. It's a sensitive issue. Rampage, the UFC fighter, who cares about that. We're concerned about Rampage, the human being. What matters is his personal life."
White also talked about some strange circumstances that led up to Jackson's episode Tuesday:

"He was up for four days and he was doing some crazy fasting thing. He was up for four days, drinking water and energy drinks, that was it. It's not good.

White said he knew that as soon as he arrived in Southern California on Tuesday night that something was seriously wrong with Jackson:

"Rampage doesn't do drugs. Rampage really doesn't even drink. This whole thing made no sense to me. (Then) when I got there it made a lot of sense."
