So football is probably the biggest sport on the planet... and yes I'm talking about "real" football, not the ridiculously over-complicated game involving an oval ball and lots of shoulder pads. So as the Limeys prepare to face the Yanks tonight, what better time to introduce a thread to talk about all things soccer.

Admittedly though this will probably degenerate into the Keegan-mocking thread...

Engl.... God Keegan is shite. Typical NUFC looking backwards and not seeing the brick wall that they are heading towards. Will we hit that brick wall, yes, yes we will, we always do. We won't spend, we won't defend, we won't do shit. SHIT!

Oh yeah England v U.S of the A ... hmm... yeah, so we get this guy who doesn't know shit about shit anymore and we give him the job.. WHAT... only if we spend lots of money and buy big... well then, ignore what I just posted ;)

Who should have gotten the job, if not Capello? Capello wasn't the best, but there didn't seem like too many viable options after McLaren was let go.

Actually Ducky is talking about Kevin Keegan... former manager of England and now manager of Newcastle. Ducky - who would you have hoped for as manager? Would you have kept faith with Big Sam?

I'm not convinced with Capello as boss... but then I think the whole Golden Generation of England is a big myth anyway. We had Defoe upfront. Defoe. Owen isn't back to his best, Crouch never gets a game, and Rooney doesn't seem to play his best with England. We had Gerrard on the left for Christ's sake. We used to have a team that kept out Andy Cole and Ian Wright... now frickin' Dean Ashton can be on the cusp. We have maybe five or six world class players... and that's it. That's not enough to win the premier league let alone a world cup.

Fortunately I missed the big game yesterday... so England defeated a very disappointing USA side. Terry thinks he's a "big man" and a man for the "big games" because he can head a goal against the USA in a friendly. I think I preferred the tw*t when he was blubbing like a little girl.

I think Capello, if given time, will do a great job.

Keegan was a bad choice, I wouldn't have gotten Sam in the first place. DIDIER DECHAMPS wanted to manage us, you don't turn down that for King Fucking Kev, even if he comes along with gold eyelashes and a prozza in each arm :(

Deschamps wanted to come to Newcastle??? Must have been the lure of the Brooooooon Ale. Water carrier or man who walks on water... hmmm tough choice. With enough money to throw around, maybe Keegan can do an ok job, but I wouldn't put the mortgage on it.

Capello is a decent enough manager, but look what he has to work with!!! Have you seen the squad for the Trinidad game? We have the Peterborough goalkeeper... Jagielka, Warnock, Wheater and Huddlestone all in the squad. Don't get me wrong, they are all good players... but international quality??? Donnay make me laff!!!! Our forwards are Walcott, Agbonlahor, Ashton, Crouch and Defoe... WTF???? Is that the best we can do????

Yeah... I don't actually buy that whole "too many foreigners" argument. If all these foreign players were to bugger off back to from whence they came, England would not suddenly become world beaters. Quite frankly, if an English player is good enough to play for England, he will shine at club level in spite of all the foreigners. Our problem is not that there are not enough English players at the highest level, it's that the players there are aren't good enough.

Of course the players that are good enough can't function together... for example, Lamps and Gerrard cannot play in the same team, yet both are International Class without a shadow of a doubt. Our wingers are poor at best (David Bentley is not good enough!!!), and we have no real target men. I can't see why we can't just pick our best 11 players and then form a system around them... we won the World Cup devades ago with "wingless wonders"... why not play an updated version of that system???

For the love of....

Now I'm seriously thinking Capello has lost the plot. Surely this was purely a political thing... there is no way Beckham deserves to be first choice, let alone Captain. Sure, he's still good at the old free kicks... but for the rest of the game he'll have to be carried. Crap decision.
