udah offers to bet he’ll knock out Mosley

1 of 2 Boxing Gallery LOS ANGELES (AP)"Zab Judah is so sure he’s going to stop Shane Mosley he’s willing to put his money on it.

Judah offered to bet Mosley $100,000 that he’s going to win their welterweight bout at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on May 31 by knockout.

“That’s free money,” the 30-year-old Judah said Monday at a news conference to publicize the fight. “If he’s so confident and so much in shape, then why didn’t he take it? The last time I put a $100,000 bet on the table was against Corey Spinks. What did I do? I knocked him out.”

Judah is 36-5 with 25 knockouts.

“He’s getting knocked out May 31,” Judah said. “He’s older now and he’s not as fast. I’ve been talking to Winky (Wright) and Vernon (Forrest) and they tell me his punching power is not the same. I’m a 100 percent better fighter.”

The 36-year-old Mosley held the WBC and WBA light-middleweight championships from September 2003 to March 2004. Mosley, from nearby Pomona, also owned the IBF lightweight title from 1997-99 and the WBC welterweight belt from 2000-02.

“It doesn’t matter what he says or what’s going on in his mind,” said Mosley, 44-5 with 37 knockouts. “I have a mission. I have a goal and my goal is to destroy anything in front of me. Nobody is going to stand in my way.”

Mosley agreed the bout won’t go the full 12 rounds, but sees a different outcome than his opponent.

“Honestly, I don’t see the fight going the distance,” Mosley said. “Zab is a great athlete. I think he’s very fast and he’s got good punching power. But how long can his mind keep up? How long can he stay focused in the ring?”

Judah was the undisputed world welterweight champion for 11 months until losing the WBC and WBA belts to Carlos Baldomir in January 2006. He retained the IBF title for three months until being beaten by Floyd Mayweather Jr.

After that IBF title fight, the Nevada Athletic Commission fined and suspended Judah and his trainer for one year because of a mid-bout confrontation involving the corners of the two fighters. Judah returned to the ring last April.

The card is being promoted by Oscar de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.

This fight might be pretty damn good!

The Real Ben

I'm looking forward to this fight, both are guys, who after a few key losses have lost a lot of respect ad adualtion from fans, but are still at the very top of the heap in terms of contenders. Both could easily win a title against anyone on any given night.

Will I be watching this as it takes place on May 31st? No, for two possible reasons. 1st, Jens Pulver is vying for the WEC Featherweight title against Urijah Faber...Pulver being my all time favorite fighter and Faber in my top five right now. 2nd, it's my birthday and I'll probably be out partying.

Unfortunately, this fight has to come third on my list of to-do's, but I will catch it on HBO later on before I let anyone tell me what happens.
